Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Having a slight worry moment here - had a bit of pinky blood today. I've been on a google mission and think it might have been a result of bit of bank holiday hanky panky yesterday and whilst its all still pink I'm focussing on it being nothing that I should really worry about (of course I am though).

I've a scan booked on Thursday to check all its okay.. Its a bit confusing as I seem to be in a bit of a limbo between the EPU who deal with upto 18 weeks (but are going to call back as they may only scan upto 16 weeks) and the Maternity Triage who deal with post 18 weeks and I'm at 17+3.

The baby is doing its bit to reassure me as it has been kicking intermittently today including when I was on the phone to the hospital - which just makes me more emotional!

legallyblond · 07/05/2013 13:53

Roofio DH's best friend is a consultant obstetrician. He is evangelical about the fact that you should be carrying your notes EVERYWHERE with you, at all times. Although I doubt your GP will need them, they should be with you anyway.....!

MotherOfNations · 07/05/2013 13:58

I wouldn't bother with the full bladder thing either as at all my scans so far I've been told to go and empty it as it's too full.

pinkbuttons · 07/05/2013 14:27

Sorry your having a panic bronze focus on the positive though that baby is kicking you so you know all is ok, and great that they have fitted you in for a scan on Thursday, hope all has stopped now and was just a little bit of nothing and your feeling better.
I would take my notes roofio if your organised enough to have remembered them but dont panic if not. I forgot mine in my rush to get antibiotics last week and no one asked for them.

legallyblond · 07/05/2013 14:34

Bronze - thinking of you but I am sure all is fine. Light bleeding throughout preg is not uncommon.

Jelly - I know the feeling re 20 week scan... I have that with every scan, but must be more pronounced for you given that you found out about DC1's problems at the 20 weeker.... I know far more people who got bad news at the 20 week than at the 12 week, so in my mind, this is thd big one. Mine's on Friday.....

Re names, we have all four of ours (not finding out their sexes!): Hugo, James, Valentina, Grace......

Racheld33 · 07/05/2013 14:47

Hi all, for whoever was discussing heartburn, I feel your pain.
Mine kicked in at 6 weeks, all day, all night agony, gaviscon didn't touch it, so I got ranitadine tablets from GP which I top up with a few swigs of gaviscon in the evenings. The worst thing, is from experience I know it only gets worse the bigger your bump gets!

Flyer747 · 07/05/2013 14:58

Has anyone else here not felt any flutters or movements? I'm currently 17+2 and nowt, I'm starting to get impatient now, although I have an anterior placenta so maybe that's why!!

roxvox · 07/05/2013 15:05

JellyCurls I am the same re bricking it about the 20 week scan. Part of me can't wait to see my baby again, but I can't shake the knowledge that it is called an 'anomaly' scan for a reason.

Thanks for all of your comments re the full bladder/ultrasound. For my 12 week scan I drank just over a pint of water an hour before, and then took sips of water in the run up to the appointment (even though my letter said to have 2 pints before, but I knew my bladder wouldn't be able to handle that). The scan lady (can't remember technical term) didn't quite tell me off, because the scan was clear enough, but she did comment and showed me my bladder and said 'There's only a teaspoon of liquid in there!' ... I think this time I will try what she suggested which is to drink 2 pints 2 hours before the scan, and then have a wee an hour before but not again until after the scan.

People who are feeling kicks - what do they feel like?

roofio87 · 07/05/2013 15:15

flyer I'm 18+4 with my first and not felt any movement here yet either!!
I have terrible heartburn anyway, so its much worse now. gonna beg gp to give me something more for it today!!

Racheld33 · 07/05/2013 15:55

Hi roxvox my kicks, do actually feel like half a second of a push/kick on the inside of my tummy. Feel them most after a cold sweet drink when i lie still on my back. I started feeling them at 16 weeks this pregnancy, but didn't feel anything till 22 weeks with DS and my midwife then said that was very normal.

TheFalconsmistress · 07/05/2013 16:24

Oh what a day today has been!!

after waiting in all morning for a phone call from the school re:oliver I called only to be told they lady who deal with admissions has had meetings all day wtf!! why not tell me that this morning when you asked me to wait in Hmm

Then I get to the hospital and my consultant is not even in, another wtf moment, So i get seen by this mw whos like, your thyroid is still in the normal range you wont get meds for that, well actually miss mw its at the total upper limit and just last week someone said they would treat it if it was above 3 for sure.

So... another doc came to see me first thing she says is your still really anemic (no shit sherlock), your weight is a problem (way to go locking the door after the horse has bolted!) I kindly pointed out i have only put a stone on not bad considering im on my 20th week, plus i lost 2 stone before falling pregnant what more does she want Confused

Then she say ok we will but you on thyroxine for your thyroid, aspirin for my high platelets, I have to go for an iron transfusion which lasts all day on Sunday. (anyone who has had one of these please let me know what they are like) I also have to go see the hematologist and my consultant next tuesday!

No empathy at all with her or any great explaining what was going on why this that of the other so left confused and pissed off!

rant over Smile

Shirehobbit · 07/05/2013 16:50

Here falcon have a Brew
It sounds like a hell of a day!

roxvox · 07/05/2013 17:03

Thanks Racheld33, that's pretty much exactly what I am feeling, but everyone seems to refer to 'flutters' which I wouldn't call the little kicks/pokes! They are getting slowly more frequent, which is pleasing Smile

This Brew is for Falcon, what a frustrating day!

Bronze I hope the bleeding has stopped. I know it doesn't help much when it's happening to you, but it is apparently quite a common thing in pregnancy.

TheFalconsmistress · 07/05/2013 17:06

thanks shire and roxvox school just called thats something at least!!
Have a meeting on Monday to discuss thing and enroll him he should find a place fingers crossed then he has 4 weeks of transition yey!!

Wickedgirl · 07/05/2013 17:27

The movements are more like squirms. Lots of sugar makes the baby move. I have my 16 week check tomorrow, I hope to hear the heart beat.

I too am really nervous about the 20 week scan as I had a high nt reading at 12 weeks and they said that could be caused by a heart problem. Lets hope not.

ananikifo · 07/05/2013 17:28

I'm sorry so many people are unwell or dealing with stressful things today! I can't see everyone's posts while I type but I hope you all feel better!

My mw said as a first time mom I might not feel anything until 20-22 weeks and not to panic. I keep hoping though, and my pregnancy emails this week seem to talk about feeling movements. I spent a good long time last night and this morning lying still trying to notice movements and there was nothing of note. Anything I did notice was more like flutters than kicks so probably just gas. Blush But mostly just nothing.

I take my pregnancy notes to all appointments but only the mw and sonographer have actually done anything with them. I don't carry them everywhere with me but I do try to take them if we spend the night anywhere.

pinkbuttons · 07/05/2013 17:45

falcon so sorry to hear about your awful day. well.done for fighting your corner on the thyroid front hopefully you will feel a bit better with iron and thyroxine on board. I had to have iron transfusions when pregnant with DS. will admit they arent pleasant as have to get a cannula put in but as far as I remember it only took an hour or so although first one was longest because they put it in slowly. Apart from that was fine and youll feel better rly quickly with the transfusion. hope that helps, and good news about the school!!

PseudoBadger · 07/05/2013 17:55

Oh joy I seem to have caught ds's stomach bug. That will make preparing for my interview such fun :(

textbook · 07/05/2013 17:56

Had my 16 week appointment today (at 18+4!) and heard baby's heartbeat - so lovely! I've been feeling movement for a few weeks now, and getting some strong kicks when singing loudly in the car, but had almost convinced myself I was imagining them. V glad all seems to be going ok - now to start stressing about 20wk scan next Thursday Grin

PseudoBadger · 07/05/2013 17:56

Sorry to hear you had such a shit day falcon. I've had a blood transfusion and it was soooo slow, is an iron transfusion similar?

roofio87 · 07/05/2013 18:05

a report back from my gp app... he prescribed omeprazole capsules for the heart burn so will report back in a few days if u think they've helped. also got some eye drops and nasal spray for hay fever symptoms. said he'd start me on them and if they don't help there are some antihistimines I can take!!

Shirehobbit · 07/05/2013 18:20

Interesting roofio - let us know how goes? I'm seeing my GP on Thursday.

Right, I'm off to the Trafford Centre to brave maternity bra and trouser shopping. Wish me luck... I may be some time...

Bronzemoth · 07/05/2013 18:54

Thanks everyone. The Bleeding has stopped so feeling much calmer. I wasn't super worried until the hospital seemed to treat it with some concern. When I phoned the community midwifes i was expecting them to tell me not to worry and to call back if it got worse/carried on for a couple of days.

Roxvox - I agree flutters is not what I would describe the little kicks as. The very first kicks I was able to isolate from wind felt a little like a pulse, now they feel a bit more like kicks with the same intensity that someone might gently flick you with their finger (after making an o with their forefinger and thumb).

Shirehobbit · 07/05/2013 20:17

Aggggghhh - one rail of maternity wear in the whole of the Trafford Centre! And the only trousers were skinny jeans. Not exactly workwear Hmm

Smitten1981 · 07/05/2013 20:27

Shire, I've found maternity wear a nightmare. All the jeans I've bought fall down and the one that stays up with a wide elastic band gives me indigestion so I can't wear them.

I really should find a maternity bra, but I was a 36F before I got pregnant and I still seem to fit in those cup wise. I have no idea where would cater for maternity bras. I don't have a Bravissimo near me and bra shops never seem to stock my normal size, let alone maternity!

I don't want to guess what size I am and buy online as I'll end up having to send them all back.
