Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Frog at my calculations you must be somewhere very near me - 10 mins from the kiddicare at merry hill and near to the kiddisave at Walsall? Smile
I haven't made it to the kiddicare yet but it does look impressive, kiddisave I know are cheap and if you actually go there it's good, but reports on online ordering are not good.

flipflump · 18/05/2013 22:24

That means I'm about 40 mins from you Creamtea, I'm in the Midlands too.

Hoping to check out both shops next weekend! Grin

flipflump · 18/05/2013 22:25

Kim, I'm watching!!! My DH has just asked "why DO we watch this every year?"

Who gets your vote?

SGJ · 18/05/2013 23:04

Malta to win! They won't though, not enough Euro-friends. We usually have a Eurovision party with an alternative sweepstake - get points for mental costumes, pyrotechnics, acrobatics, mad hair and/or facial hair, key change etc. I'm usually also drunk, but as this year the entrants aren't too bonkers, I'm not too fussed about being sober!

SGJ · 18/05/2013 23:05

And to keep it related to pregnancy, the baby liked kicking along to Malta too (and that one with the man in the box)

Kittenkatzen · 18/05/2013 23:31

hetty can I ask where you got your cat net from please, we'll need one for the Moses basket and the cot I think.

Lovely to hear what everyone's been up to today - hope all the sore backs and bumps are feeling better by the morning! We had a lovely morning pottering around the garden centre picking up a few bits for our garden themed nursery (got my gnome Grin) and then just some housework and a film on the telly tonight (total recall 2012...was ok, bit meh, distinct lack of RDJ)

Exciting stuff in the kitten household today - the cotbed has arrived! Eek!! Still in boxes atm, we'll probably tackle it next weekend I think but definitely starting to feel more real now!

Creamtea1 · 19/05/2013 00:01

Kitten - I had to watch the 2012 total recall too! totally meh agree with you Smile not a patch on rdj, and DH informed me he read somewhere that if marvel can't get rdj for avengers 2 and next iron man then apparently Colin Farrell is the favourite to replace him! Pah Hmm

kimjayne · 19/05/2013 00:14

we went to a eurovision party this eve. I was secretly peeking at mumsnet throughout. But couldnt quite sneek enough time to write much. My vote went to the crazy Greece entry. Our song was pretty naff (unsurprisingly)! I miss Terry Wogan voicing it these days! But still love how much Graham Norton takes the mick. Eurovisions such a guilty pleasure. haha
Im off to bed now! got to get to some sleep ready for the baby show tomorrow! Smile night all

frogchops · 19/05/2013 07:57

Creamtea.....I am prob half way between kiddicare and kiddisave. Where are u having ur baby?

Kittenkatzen · 19/05/2013 07:58

Noooooooooooo!! Colin Farrell is NOT an acceptable substitute!! Surely RDJ wouldn't turn it down though - he is iron man Shock

badguider · 19/05/2013 09:52

IM3 pretty much retired IM. I think it would be weird to resurrect now :(

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 19/05/2013 09:57

Oooh kiddicare in Enfield you say.... That could combine well with a Tottenham ikea trip, and the flagship mothercare is there too. Juniper are you nearer Croydon? I am sure there are warehouse sized stores there that might enable you to try out buggies etc.

I have been idly looking on eBay for clothing bundles, as the only things I am likely to get new are a car seat, cot mattress, and ... Um ... That's probably it! First time round, in the first year we bought new a few special outfits, a moses basket, car seat, bjorn, babasling, bumbo, loads of Medela pumping and storing milk kit, the above discussed Bob monster-buggy, travel cot (Asda £20!), cot mattress, baby bedding, but got the cot frame and a set of stairgates from an NCT nearly new sale at £30 each, all the babygros and basic clothes came from friends and that circle is still going (I'm wearing 5th hand maternity clothes!), reusable nappies also handed on by the tribe, a sort of standalone kitchen cupboard/shelf unit on wheels repurposed as a changing table, a Quinny chassis from someone on MN, an umbrella fold buggy from someone at work... We must have saved hundreds. We don't have a big enough house to fit proper nursery furniture, although I pine for the day I can deliberately match things! DS is now in a mid sleeper bed also bought off someone at work, for £45, and baby so far has a new (bought but never used by someone at work) Kari-me sling.

Reusable nappy tip, if anyone's planning on using them: store them ready made up, wrapped with the cover on. We had a nice wicker basket for this, on a shelf of the changing table. Then you can easily grab a few to put in the changing bag, unfold and use just like a disposable when out and about. We have a few drawstring nylon bags, like gym kit bags IYKWIM, which I'd use as 'toxic waste disposal' to get soiled ones home. A soiled reusable nappy fits in a plastic nappy sack, just, and then gets tied and lobbed in the gym bag as a clearly marked laundry receptacle! Rather than cart the great big changing bag everywhere, I got a large toiletry bag, like a man's sponge bag, to use as the 'short trip out' changing bag - you can fit a pack of wipes, three or four disposables, nappy sacks, and a tube of bum cream in there easily. All you need is to find a bin for the toxic waste, and you're sorted.

Kittenkatzen · 19/05/2013 11:15

No badguider I refuse to believe it!! They left room for another with "I am IM" at the end. And Avengers wouldn't be right without IM Smile

ION someone pass me the stupid crown please - it just took me FOUR attempts to get the duvet cover on the right way - I just could not fathom which way I was supposed to hold it and kept ending up with it inside out!

Creamtea1 · 19/05/2013 12:47

Frog - good hope hospital, how about you?

frogchops · 19/05/2013 12:56

Russells Hall creamtea. I think you'll be pushing before me anyway!!

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 19/05/2013 14:56

Ooh I had a boyfriend once that lived on Russells hall road, the bit opposite the park/green space.

Poonli · 19/05/2013 16:03

Apologies in advance for the long message but here goes.

I have quite a senior job in a very fast growing company. They may have a large turnover but have small company practices still. (e.g. we dont get paid for sick leave etc)

I told my boss at 10 weeks that I was pregnant and clearly stated that I ensure this would work for both parties and I wouldnt leave them in the lurch.

Since then he has been really off with me (he doesnt have or ever will have children and is quite anti-children).

He refused to address the issue and discuss maternity etc..

Yesterday he pulled me into his office to say 'things are not working out and you either leave or we go down disciplinary which will go against my personnel file and no reference'. He gave reasons that are very petty about 'poor performance' from last year and things that arguably arent even my fault. He told me I could fight legally if I wanted but that he would drag it out and make it very costly (he's done it to another ex-colleague - a man - and paid £60k to sue him just to prove a point).

So ultimately I had no choice really being nearly 6 months pregnant to hand in my notice. It means no one else is going to employ a 6 month pregnant woman and Ive lost the big income in the family with no SMP. He didnt even acknowledge that I was pregnant while he was firing me!

He's now being a complete arse and being really rude to me and demanding me to do things for a handover while I still have to work my notice period!!!! This is going to be the most painful one month of my life and the most stressful....

I'm so mad as after my 12 week scan the doctors told me I had high HCG test and high risk for downs. I told my boss (even though he wasnt very bothered) and the doctors wanted to sign me off work for stress and I refused as I didnt want to inconvenience work. I never took a day off or let it affect my job. I've worked 60 hour weeks for 3 years and this is what I get...

I cant stop crying... Hubby has been awesome and really supportive but my pride is seriously dented as well as concerns over our family's financial position....

Sorry rant over!

jennimoo · 19/05/2013 16:26

Poonli - that's terrible. Apart from something like CAB I've no advice but hope you're ok.

fl0b0t · 19/05/2013 16:56

Yikes poonli I'd definitely get some legal advice as that sounds highly illegal and very distressing.

I've been spending babys inheritanceat another hen party this weekend in London. Good fun but inevitable pissing about with bills and then just chucking more than £30 extra in the joint pot because some tight arse didn't pay up. So annoying and I'm just glad my friends arent dicks like that. I know exactly who didn't put their money in but can't say anything as they're related to the bride and it would not be good politically. I've already spent almost a grand on hen do's and weddings this year and we're not even half way through the lot. Getting a bit sick of it all now. I refuse to buy another outfit, pay for booze I didn't drink or pay for my share of a taxi because everyone else is too lazy to walk 5 mins to the tube station (to use the travel card I already paid for!)

Grumps over. Bump looks awesome dressed up in a slinky dress and I stuffed my face on lovely dinners (Kensington wine rooms and Gauchos Piccadilly ). Now I've gone back to bed with acid reflux. Yum!

HettySunshine · 19/05/2013 17:38

Hey Kitten, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I get the cat net from the nct sale but it is from John Lewis. Not sure how much it would be new. Smile

kimjayne · 19/05/2013 17:39

poonli you really cant let him get away with that! My husband knows more about these things than I do but he highly recommends that you should contact ACAS and/or CIPD as this has tribunal written all over it. I wish I could give you more advice but really hope you sort things out. xx

juniper9 · 19/05/2013 17:46

Poonli could you take your maternity leave early? Within your 1 month's notice period, thus postponing the 'notice 'for a year? It does sound like discrimination and you shouldn't let him bully you by making threats about the legal costs.

I am public sector so forgive me for my ignorance if that isn't possible!

Kittenkatzen · 19/05/2013 18:01

poonli what an absolute nobber your boss is Angry How can he sleep at night knowing what he's done (and deliberately by the sounds of it). Have you got any legally friends who might be able/willing to write him a strongly worded about it all being highly dodge? Even if you don't intend to pursue, it might be worth it to put the wind up him a bit?

fl0 I hate when hen parties turn like that, it's so awkward especially when you're the only sober one! Am very Envy of your trip to Gaucho's though, what did you eat? I only like my steak mooing rare so am abstaining for the duration Envy

Thanks for the cat net tip hetty!

frogchops · 19/05/2013 18:17

Poonli, this is awful! I would seek legal advice ASAP. There has to be a clear chunk of evidence to suggest your company have reason and have followed the correct procedures to get rid of you (ie this has just come out if the blue) otherwise they are on dodgy grounds for unfair diamissal or are discriminating due to pregnancy (but obviously they aren't goin to admit its preg related). I do know that the key here is to document everything, and act quickly though!!
How could the last man be sued for 60k? What was the boss during for? Maybe first look on the moneysavingexpert website (there's usually some really knowledgable people on there) and then go to an employment law solicitor.
As for getting you to work especially hard during your notice, screw them!!
