New thread! May it bring lots of good news, funny stories and happy bump mummies!

Creamtea1 · 14/05/2013 21:28

Thanks SJG and flip, thought that would be the case.

In other news, it's been quite a while since we all talked about food, so can I just mention peanut butter m&m's....

Manoodledo · 14/05/2013 21:30

Am slightly jealous of those decorating nurseries. In our wisdom we decided it would be a good idea to move house before the baby arrives and currently have no idea where we'll be living. Hopefully not a tent (or PIL's spare room!)

jennimoo · 14/05/2013 21:30

We got the malm chest of drawers for DD and I liked it so much I got a bigger one for my room and plan to get another for DC2s room! Especially good with the white plastic canvas insert thingamabobs to go in the drawers to seperate teeny tiny socks and vests.

I'm glad discussion has moved on from episiotomies!

andadietcoke · 14/05/2013 21:33

kitten definitely the mixed ones.

manoodle oh no, not decorating, just planning Wink

andadietcoke · 14/05/2013 21:34

creamtea peanut butter M&Ms? Seriously? They're my favourite American import Grin

Creamtea1 · 14/05/2013 21:47

Oh yes dietcoke...seriously - my parents just got back from the US and I commanded them not to return without at least a kilo of the peanut butter ones! Smile And nutter butter biscuits too mmm

JammyTummy · 14/05/2013 21:52

And American cheesy Cheetos!!! They are SOOOO good!

kipsonline · 14/05/2013 21:59

Ooh nutter butter biscuits... I lived on those whilst backpacking around US in my yoof! Ahhhh those were the days ;)

Kittenkatzen · 14/05/2013 22:09

Haha ready that's an inspired idea - I may have to make one if I can't buy one! :)

Ooh flip they sound good, thanks!

Omg juniper I NEED that caterpillar outfit!! Have added it to my wishlist too, it's brilliant! GrinGrin my child will hate me with all these costumes lol

Thanks for the input on the great chez kitten box debate - knew you'd all see sense Grin will keep wearing DH down or just go shopping alone
Love pb m&m's. The coconut ones are amazing too have you tried those? The US does junk food amazingly well doesn't it?! What's a nutter butter biscuit? Sounds like something I might need in my life....

Creamtea1 · 14/05/2013 22:25

Kitten it's a large peanut shaped biscuit, 2 layers with peanut butter in the middle. Made by the people who make Oreos, they are American but you can buy them in places like selfridges food hall or American import type places, they are very nice Smile I haven't tried the coconut m&m's but now I want some!

flipflump · 14/05/2013 22:52

Kitten, they're from Argos. Lion, monkey and frog, might not work with your theme but they're cute.

Mmmmm American junk food! So glad we've relocated to a quiet village or I'd be racing to Selfridges to stock up!!

CheeseStrawCraving · 15/05/2013 00:33

Oh my gosh. Please someone buy the pea suit. It's scrummy!! My sis is working in the states from may to aug so have asked her to find me a surprise Halloween costume for bubba...

ION have to have GTT as baby measuring large. No history of diabetes, I am 5ft10 and was BMI of 20.8 when got pg so no factors here to suggest it.

CheeseStrawCraving · 15/05/2013 00:34

Oh think I just missed a whole page of stuff, sorry if post is random!

Kittenkatzen · 15/05/2013 07:41

creamtea they sound yum! There's a newsagent by my work that stocks American junk food for extortionate prices, might have to check it out at lunchtime! For the baby you understand, the baby needs pb biscuits not me oh no.....Wink

flip the frog one might well work, I'll take a look! Thank you (and your sister!) for the tip Smile

I said to DH last night that you all think we should go for mismatched boxes - he laughed and said ok then haha, thanks girls GrinGrin

cheesestraw that sucks about the GTT, hopefully it'll come back clear though and baby has just had an early growth spurt or something. Did you get any indication at your 20wk scan that baby was big? Mine was off the chart for weight and waist measurement but nothing mentioned to me about GTT yet.

jennimoo · 15/05/2013 08:28

I don't know who asked as so many messages but I got an email from boots about the £5 off if you spend £20 and it says excludes under 6 month milk so others should be ok. I expect it works in conjunction with the but nappies get changing bag too!

JammyTummy · 15/05/2013 08:45

It's Greece time! Cannot wait for some sun. Will try to check in while there and keep up to date with everybody's news! Hopefully you will all still be talking about sweeties rather than episiotomies!

Have a great holiday Jammy! Very jealous, I'd love a sunny week, it's pouring in the midlands!!!!

RakeABedOfTyneFilth · 15/05/2013 08:54

We must be right grumps because we're not decorating a nursery at all... We recently did DS's room when he turned 3 and could appreciate it. It has a deep blue ccarpet (the sea) green rugs and blankets to make hills for the dinosaurs and farm animals to walk on, light blue walls (the sky) and a round yellow glow-in-the-dark paper pendant lampshade (the sun). I keep meaning to get wall stickers of trees or boats or planes but would quite like DS to decide. I also got a set of planets and invisible string from the 'happy puzzle company' to suspend from the ceiling but haven't got round to working out and scaling down the correct astronomical distances. Baby, on the other hand, will be in our room for at least 6 months. The third bedroom needs to be redecorated but it is both a home office and a guest room and a baby room, so won't have a baby theme at all. We'll need a bigger house if we want both DC to have their own rooms!

about the BOBgear, runningbear - we probably haven't used it to its full potential but have enjoyed its capabilities on bumpy but solid country paths, beach sand (the firmer the better of course), and some very rutted and un-pathed woodland mud (slowly!). Daily to/from work I walked on pavement and found it was so lightweight (for its size) that it was super easy to push even up a sustained hill and so perfectly balanced over the axle it is dead easy to tip to turn and manoeuvre. It is actually easier to bump up and down steps than a town buggy because of the big wheels, too. If you were around Watford any time you would be welcome to test drive mine to see what I mean! The handle height isn't adjustable but I found it perfectly ok at 5'4 and DH also loves it at 6'1.

Wincher · 15/05/2013 09:48

We are about to have major works done including refurbishing the loft conversion which will become ds1's room. Ds1's current room will become the baby's room. It also needs refurbishing - we've had it replastered but we haven't painted yet, and it needs new carpets and curtains. We're hoping to do that all soon, so that DS doesn't feel we are only making the room nice after he moves out of it! But there is a damp issue caused by a guttering problem we nd to fix first. There's always something...

flipflump · 15/05/2013 09:53

What does the 24 week midwife app involve? BP, Doppler, urine sample, measurements? Anything else? Must we get back on the scales? Kind of dreading it!!! Hmm

Mooster1709 · 15/05/2013 09:59

Oh, I love the sticker idea - I didn't even know these existed. And Kitten, your garden theme sounds beautiful. I have no creative impulses at all - am team pink but we've gone for yellow and white (am on a particularly strong anti-gender norms bent at present, suspect hormonal as am not usually this militant). But now feel I should try to have a theme!

Having said this, whole house is currently without carpet, bathrooms in process of being ripped out, and only one room livable in. I suppose a theme of 'not building site' might have to suffice...

badguider · 15/05/2013 10:31

Rake - did you buy your BOB in the UK? Can I ask where from? I don't think BOBs for us because despite the fact they are famous for making bike trailers they don't actually do a stroller/bike trailer combo but my friend is lending us a whole travel system to start with so that will save us loads of money we can use for a 6mnths+ stroller/trailer. There's a new magazine out called 'womens' cycling' which I bought at the train station yesterday has an article on trailers and bike seats and also on cycling in pregnancy (like it was written for me :)

We're not decorating our nursery either - it's small and has neutral light coloured walls and wood floor and grey curtains. All I'm going to do is move the warm grey rug from the living room into there where it will fill almost the whole area and buy a much bigger one for the living room to again fill almost all the floor space as it'll be warmer for babies and mummies lying on playmats. We've got an ikea bookcase in there we'll buy boxes/baskets for for storage, and we're not buying a cot to start with - we're hiring an nct bednest for our room for 6 months and when we're ready to move him out we'll think about a cot/bed combo and about adjusting the lighting in that room / mobiles / colour on the walls etc..

flip - my 24wk appt was on monday... just doppler and urine tests... and MAT1B (IMPORTANT!)... next appt is 28wks and involves bloods. My MW never seems to want to weigh me and also said it's too early to measure me, but she did feel him when she was doing the doppler and said he's nearly up to my umbilicus which is where he should be at 24wks (i was 23+5)

Mooster1709 · 15/05/2013 10:50

My 24 week appt was anti-climactic in the extreme. Urine (which I had forgotten), and doppler. I was a bit worried about my weight (have been doing some serious eating), but MW didn't seem that interested/concerned - I wanted to know if it was ok to not gain any more now/gain very slowly (have gined 20lbs already), or whether that would be bad for the baby. Didn't get an answer, so am aiming for 1/2 lb a week from now on...

flipflump · 15/05/2013 11:06

Oh thank you BadGuider, had forgotten about Matb1, will add a post-it to my notes now. Ok, maybe shouldn't stress about stepping on the scales too much but I must cut down on eating habits!!

RunningBear78 · 15/05/2013 11:10

Mooster you could go with diggers and trucks and pretend the house was supposed to look like a building site! I grew up in a building site house type. It was quite exciting :)

Our baby room is currently full of my diving and work kit, and all the stuff from the living room, which is waiting to be finished. BabyBears room needs a serious re-plaster and repaint. Was going to go for cornflower blue, but I we decided on that colour when it was going to be my office a year ago, and also when we thought it might be a girl ... I like blue stuff Grin We don't have a theme at all, but I think 'fitting everything in one room' might be a good start!

I might take my theme from this amazing little shop I found in Keswick. I would fill my house with their amazingly cute baby realated things if I could afford to! I think you lot will like it temporarymeasure.co.uk/74-big-bear

I bought this picture temporarymeasure.co.uk/little-rabbit/269-wild-wind.html and their books.

Lucky I'm back off up to the Lakes this weekend, and oh what a shame, its going to pour with rain. Best head to Keswick and do some shopping - yippeeeeeeeeeeee

TyneFilth thanks for the offer of test driving your BOB, we're quite a distance away, but reminds me that I probably ought to look at things first before 'deciding' what I actually want based on pictures online! Good to know what it is like to use though. I think the Out n'About has an inner for newborns which is tempting ...

Right, tea work.
