Any thoughts for safe hayfever stuff that actually works? Am suffering horribly at present, especially with itchy eyes... driving me mad. Have sodium cromglycate drops (like Opticrom) from Dr but she said to use sparingly. Also tried Allerclear drops and that nose spray that coats the inside of your nose (can't remember name). Desperate!

TripleRock · 14/05/2013 14:23

Mooster I'm taking Beconase nasal spray which I'm getting on really well with. I had to get it on prescription from GP though.

PurplePoppySeed · 14/05/2013 15:09

Oh god, so not ready to buy anything yet! Our spare room is currently full of our new bathroom suite, bathroom empty except for new tiling, DH needs to finish bathroom before I start to think about it...

Question, way colour would you paint the room ready for baby if your in team beige? White/cream seems boring to me..

PurplePoppySeed · 14/05/2013 15:14

Ps mooster have you ever tried eating local honey. DH has had crippling hey fever all of his life an it really is the best treatment he's found. You need at least a spoonful a day and it has to be from your area. Takes a week or 2 to build up in your system but really works. For example, he keeps a jar of Kent honey in the cupboard and takes it or a week before visiting his mum there in the spring/summer, but has our local Surrey stuff the rest of the time!

He still has to take drugs when its really bad, but with the honey it's 100 times better.

Just came back from midwife and as soon as I said my identical twin sister had gestional diabetes she phoned the hospital and booked me a GTT for when I am 27 weeks - it's a good job I mentioned it as I don't think anyone had bothered to read my notes that said my twin had it. Listened to baby's heart beat and she sounded very happy in there - can't wait for my doppler to arrive so I can listen to her when I like.

On the way back I nipped into Boots as I got my vouchers for the parenting pack and also they have £5 off when you spend £20 on baby things at the moment. I got the free changing bag - it's not very big but will do for a spare. I also got some sleep mist as well as some white baby vests and muslin clothes.

Also got dome big comfy pants from M&S - cutting all the labels out when I got back so I don't have to think about or let OH see the size.

Purple I second the local honey working for hayfever - I have some local honey everyday on my cereal and so far this year I have been fine - when I usually really suffer.

Mooster1709 · 14/05/2013 16:38

Oooh, must try the local honey idea - thanks. Will also ask Dr about beconase.

With the boots changing bag do they give it to you there and then - i.e. do they have a stock of them in store? My Boots is a small one and I thought there would be some complicated process of ordering it...

Fozziebearmum2b · 14/05/2013 16:54

Glad you've all mentioned the GTT test, my dad is type 1 diabetic (since childhood) and I asked the mw at booking apt I if I had higher risk of GD and she said no! On NHS website it says the opposite and from what you've all said I should prob have the test...

Annoying when you don't get told the right thing. Good thing I have apt on Fri

Kittenkatzen · 14/05/2013 17:55

purple we're team yellow and are going with a garden theme for the nursery - so cream, green and brown with splashes of colour. The walls and carpet are magnolia-ish (rented house) so we have ordered a dark mahogany coloured cot to match some other dark wood furniture we already have, natural linen curtains and cover for the sofa, and a massive tree wall sticker that we're planning to put so it looks like the cot nestles under it. We're also going to get a grass border sticker to go around the whole room, and have been collecting gardeny bits and bobs to decorate with (I really want a friendly looking gnome in the corner!!). When baby arrives we figure we can choose to big up either the flowers/fairies angle or go down the bugs/animals route but I don't care GrinGrin

PurplePoppySeed · 14/05/2013 18:15

Oh nice idea kitten that will work well, I gues the other option is yellow.. Hmm, at least I can think on it for a while!

CharlW1 · 14/05/2013 18:28

Fozzie I would say they will definitely give you a GTT with your Dad having diabetes. Its so hit and miss whether you get good midwife or not - the one I had today was lovely and she told me she works on Tuesdays and Wednesday's so I will try and book my 28 week appointment with her.

Mooster they do have a stock of the changing bags in the shop and they just give it you others and then so well worth going in.

andadietcoke · 14/05/2013 18:29

purplepoppy although we're having girls, all being well, what we've picked out is fairly gender neutral - it's the timbuktales range from mamas and papas. Horrendously expensive so just buying bits and bobs, but it's lovely www.mamasandpapas.com/range/timbuktales-new/8342/

juniper9 · 14/05/2013 18:47

My scan isn't until next Wednesday Sad. My hospital do it in the 21st week for some reason, and I'm due right at the end of September!

I used a voucher from my Emma's diary pack (which I got from boots) to order from vertbaudet. Its free delivery and returns, you get a free changing bag and travel mat (although they are small) and 15% off. Pretty good. I got 8 very sweet footed baby grows for £40. The rest of the baby's clothes are white and from multipacks so I felt justified in spending a bit!

flipflump · 14/05/2013 18:47

Love that range dietcoke, we've gone for mamas and papas too, like you we've picked bits and bobs. Keeping it gender neutral. We bought curtains elsewhere to keep the cost down and to stop the room becoming too matchy.

Kitten, that's brilliant. If you do go for a gnome, you must upload a photo - so cute!!!

Kittenkatzen · 14/05/2013 18:57

Thanks Smile it's a bit of a hodge-lodge at the moment but in my head it will come together nicely in the end. We have an ikea bookcase that's made up of 8 squares that I'm planning to use as a chest of drawers type unit - I want to find 8 different style tubs/baskets that match the theme (a couple of green ones, a wicker one, cream, brown etc)....but DH insists 8 the same will look better - any opinions??

Ooh that mamas & papas range is gorge dietcoke - I love the led canvas!

jennimoo · 14/05/2013 19:09

Although we knew last time we were team pink I painted the room yellow and used ikea fabric for curtains and stickers for decoration, in bright colours with animals and stuff. Worked well until DD was mobile and stated peeling them all off the walls!

This time the room is neutral, will just do something with curtains and a few stickers I should think, once there's room!

Creamtea1 · 14/05/2013 19:13

Anyone know if the boots offer of £5 off when you spend £20 on baby stuff includes formula milk?

herewego2 · 14/05/2013 19:14

oOoh may have to copy some of those nursery ideas, very nice.
Further to GTT scan stuff, I had gestational diabetes that I controlled with diet for the last 4 weeks of last pregnancy. When I told my Dad I had it he said "oh that's funny, your Great Grandad, Grandma and Uncle had diabetes." When I told the midwife the family history she said they'd have given me GTT tests sooner and that explained why I had it. DS came out great by the way, neither he or I have diabetes now.
Flo - you are cracking me up! What a stunner you must be with your pants! Just like me!
The lady who is doing the show, you go for it, you'll be the star of the show doing that! What a tale to tell the little one....

Readytosettle · 14/05/2013 19:29

kitten do they do gnome outfits anywhere?? You could make the baby the star of the show!

SGJ · 14/05/2013 20:13

Creamtea - I'd imagine the 6 month onwards formula milk will definitely be included but not sure about first milk as retailers aren't supposed to offer any monetary incentives to formula feed... I know that means they can't discount the price itself, but not sure whether that applies in this case as its money off a set amount, rather than money off a specific product, if that makes any sense?!

flipflump · 14/05/2013 20:14

Creamtea, there was a notice up in my local Boots stating it wasn't included, something to do with manufacturing guidelines.

flipflump · 14/05/2013 20:15

Kitten, my sister has that ikea bookcase, she has animal shaped boxes in it, will find out where they are from.

CharlW1 · 14/05/2013 20:27

kitten I have that unit from Ikea in my bedroom - I think assorted baskets will look great (as you said mix it up with green's, wicker etc).

That range is gorgeous dietcoke I haven't given much thought to how my babies room will be decorated so will definitely be taking stone inspiration fromyou all!

juniper9 · 14/05/2013 20:37

Kitten

caterpillar costume

pea suit

Both on my Amazon wish list!

frogchops · 14/05/2013 20:43

So I come home from work and there's all sorts of ideas to catch up with! .... I'll be back!!

frogchops · 14/05/2013 20:54

Kitten.... Def mixed baskets/boxes. Sounds lovely.
We've decided not to but nursery furniture and to buy ikea single wardrobe (the pax variety) and the malm chest of drawes so at least it will last for when DC (eeee that's the first time I've typed that!) is a bit bigger.
We are also thinking of buying the tree transfer (whoever said that?!) an hopefully adding some shelf branches. Room colours were already picked as lemon and lime before we were team blue.
Have booked baby show tickets today so well see how many unecessary items I can buy!!
