My Doppler turned up today and found baby's heart beat very quickly. Don't know why I held off buying one!

CharlW1 · 12/05/2013 09:49

Morning all - hope everyone is having a good weekend.

I'm having a girlie day today - having made up done at Bare Minerals and then off for afternoon tea.

I know we have talked a lot about bras but is anyone wearing maternity knickers? I have been buying knickers in bigger sizes but I am alarmed at the size I am having to go up to so they are comfy!

Readytosettle · 12/05/2013 09:56

I seem to have got my first stretch mark...on my boob! An wondering whether this is down to lack of support as my boobs have always been big & I've always worn underwired up to now...

ION went to jojo maman bebe yesterday & picked up some denim shorts and cropped jeans for the summer. Soo comfy and really very reasonable (under £30 each).

Readytosettle · 12/05/2013 09:59

Charl, i bought a pack of m&s bikini briefs in size 18 (I normally wear a size 16 in knickers as I like them roomy, but 18 is even comfier so went for that), anyways they're perfect & i've cut the labels out so I can forget what size they were!

frogchops · 12/05/2013 10:08

I bought tesco pants, the ones they call shorts. I bought a 14 which is my normal size but might have to buy some 16s. They're dead comfy tho... £4 for 4or 5.
ION its our anniversary today, 6 years together and after DP has said for the past five that cards are crap, I didn't bother this year. Of course now he's bought me one and I didn't get one for him. :-/

flipflump · 12/05/2013 10:22

I could sail a yacht with my new knickers, they're huge but comfy! Glamour is out the window and comfort is in. I am a tad shy about hanging them out on the line though!!! Didn't bother with maternity, they're Tesco and do the job.

Going shopping today, I'm finding I'm much more comfortable in dresses or leggings now. Has anyone seen nice, jersey dresses. Was in mothercare world (looking at prams) yesterday and was very disappointed with the clothes selection.

ION, what pram/pushchair/buggy is everyone going for?

CharlW1 · 12/05/2013 10:38

Think I will just go for comfort now and just cut the label out as Ready says Smile

Congratulations Frog on your anniversary!

Flip I am the same that I find dresses and leggings a lot mire comfy now. I bought I a lovely jersey dress in Primate just in a bigger size - I have had that many compliments about it. I also got ssome little cardigans from there that I put over it.

jennimoo · 12/05/2013 10:47

I need new knickers, starting to dig in :( believe but it not last time around I wore my normal ones throughout, no idea how I managed that! I guess I'm carrying more weight on my bum this time, totally goes against the theory though, had a girl last time and boy this time!

We have a Phil and teds: was from eBay so cheap but is heavy and awkward. I did (and will this time) use a sling / baby carrier mostly when I was alone as couldn't manage the buggy in and out the car! At 6 months ish it was abandoned for a lightweight umbrella fold maclaren, so I'd recommend saving some money as you'll probably want one of those while still on SMP ;)

frogchops · 12/05/2013 11:31

Flip I've bought the britax bsmart 4 travel system. Was a bargain at 279, they are discontinuing it due to bringing out a three wheeled version (britax bsmart 3) hence the sale price. Was the easiest and nicest to push around kiddicare anyway! I bought it in blue (before I even knew I was team blue!) but they have it in red which is lovely.

Fozziebearmum2b · 12/05/2013 11:43

Was just about to ask whether anyone could recommend a travel system or what they were going for? Seems like a minefield!

weebarra · 12/05/2013 11:58

I've got a 5 year old icandy cherry from DS1. It needs a repair to the chassis but should be fine. DS2 still uses his maclaren for the school run but I'll get him proficient on his scooter before september!

Readytosettle · 12/05/2013 12:29

I went for the Uppababy Vista...hasn't arrived yet, but reviews are very good & it includes all the extras like car seat adapters & rain covers....basket is huge so I'll have room for the shopping ;-)

JammyTummy · 12/05/2013 13:52

We're getting the iCandy Peach (at least I think it's the Peach), plus the carrycot as the pushchair is only suitable from 6 months. Have already ordered the MaxiCosi pebble car seat to click into it.
I also quite liked the SilverCross Surf when we were researching, it was the one we were originally going to go for, but DH moaned about the folding mechanism (I thought it was fine), a lot!
We're incredibly lucky to have DH's parents be buying the buggy though, as buba would've been travelling in a shopping trolley otherwise, these things are so bloody expensive!

Charl, thanks for the primark recommendation. I've had an update and hopefully have enough to get me through the summer, although today feels like winter!

I'll check out the britax. Love the iCandy peach too, we're getting the pebble and base, great that they're compatible and so easy. Such a hard decision! Think we're falling heir to a McLaren, so don't need to worry about that and will be handy having an umbrella fold.

andadietcoke · 12/05/2013 16:47

If everything continues to go okay we'll be getting a Bugaboo Donkey Twin which comes with carrycots, and then the MaxiCosi Pebble and the FamilyFix bases so we can use them with a higher group car seat.

MammaGnomes · 12/05/2013 17:09

We're getting the icandy cherry too have admired it from afar and then went to have a look and totally love it!! Mum and step dad are buying it for us were so lucky otherwise ours too would be in a shopping trolly ha ha

Fozziebearmum2b · 12/05/2013 17:17

Tried to look at the icandy, but can't find any stockists...where are you buying it from?

JammyTummy · 12/05/2013 17:26

I don't think they give any details online, they only like to deal with shops. I know John Lewis have it, not sure where else though.
The FamilyFix took me by surprise, I didn't realise we needed a base so was pretty disappointed we need to buy that as well as the seat, and it costs just as bloody much!

Bugaboo cameleon here, will get an m&p umbrella fold stroller type whenever we finally afford a holiday next year probably.
I did like the uppababy one too but discovered it too late after already sorting the bugaboo

RunningBear78 · 12/05/2013 18:01

I am obsessed with the Out n'About Sport, but probably won't get it until after Pip arrives. Haven't really looked at anything other than off-road/running buggies. Don't think we'd really use anything else. We have been offered a couple of slings/front carriers to borrow from friends and I hope to use that primarily at the start.

On the pants front, I've jumped from a size 10 to 14 - they are sooooo big they hardly fit in my pant's draw! Love them though, super comfy.

ION I discovered (and spent a small fortune) in Decathlon. They have super supportive, and quite pretty soft bra's in sizes up to 40E. They are only £19 so quite cheap too. Also, their yoga clothes are really lovely and soft, with wide waist bands which are super comfy under the bump. Nice shorts and 3/4s.

Final shopping discovery of the day was shopping in shops for sizes 14+ = lovely things that fitted much better than maternity dresses.

Lucky it is Sunday night, no more opportunities for shopping!

badguider · 12/05/2013 18:18

Hi runningbear - do you know anything about running buggies?
We've been offered a pram by a friend which I hope will do us for the first six months (plan to use a sling/carrier a lot to start with as prefer that for buses and the city I live in is all steps) and then we are looking at combined running buggies / bike trailers but they are expensive and i'm not sure which is best.... I'm the runner, and DH wants to use the trailer off-road.

RunningBear78 · 12/05/2013 19:09

Badguider I've been doing a bit of research on the running buggies and have a friend who uses hers daily - and doesn't have another buggy, just slings. The main thing I've sussed is that the bigger the wheels the better they run, which is also true for walking off road. The Out n'About Sport has 16 inch wheels I think, as does the BoBgear Ironman and Baby Jogger which many on Runners World forums recommend. There are others, but most are from the US, and occasionally turn up on Ebay - my friend has a Kool Stride which she loves.

Just found this www.running4women.com/road-test-jogging-strollers/

The other alternative is one that can be used for running and as a cycling trailer, Chariot make a good one I think, but not sure about anyone else. I love the idea of these, but realistically I don't think we'd use one www.chariotcarriers.com/en/gb

Hope that helps?

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 12/05/2013 19:36

I've gone for the baby jogger city mini double after much faffing about. Looks at the city select, donkey and the icandy peach but I hate the thought of one baby underneath and the donkey was £££. Plus I heard that its a bit of a donkey to expand. You'll need to report back dietcoke.

Having the small age gap means a double is a must for me.

Weighed myself at my friends and I appear to have lost weight again in the pregnant too. Didn't expect that to happen the 2nd time.

I've been so bagged up that I've been feeling sick and sluggish all weekend. Don't want to eat as I feel full to the eyeballs Hmm

badguider · 12/05/2013 20:09

The chariots are beautiful but i think the croozer is more our budget.

Our friend has offered to lend us a mamas and papas pramette cityscape (black) with carseat etc, which means we can save our money for the bike trailer/jogger :)

Obviously I don't know for sure how much our lives will change but right now we spend all our weekends outside in forests or parks and usually on our bikes (the kind of smooth and easy paths i'm riding now while pregnant will be rideable with a trailer).

HettySunshine · 12/05/2013 20:16

I've gone for the britax b-smart 3. We're hoping it'll be nice and sturdy for nice long off-road walks. It was a recommendation from a fried and managed to get it with a bit of a discount from kiddicare.
