Just starting a new thread as we're starting to run out of room on the first. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/a1716486-December-2013#38680515

Hi, I've been lurking unti I felt brave enough to join! I'm around 9 weeks now, due Dec 4th, I think, not exactly certain on dates so waiting for scan in a few weeks to see!

Have felt so nauseous recently, consequently I've been eating everything and anything in an attempt to find something to make me better! I really have to try to reign things in a bit!

musiceverywhere · 04/05/2013 00:51

violetbean I could pretend to have a great memory, but... really I'll admit that I'm on the laptop this evening (instead of phone which usually read thread on) so I could open a separate document to write post in while reading comments. Cut and paste and voila! Grin he he.
May be a bit OTT but figure if we're going all the way to December I need to make some effort to keep up with everyone! Makes much more sense to do short posts more often, really will try harder. Glad you're feeling calmer now.

re: BF. It's on the list of baby details that I'm not letting myself really think about yet as still feel its too early on (7 weeks) but in general, am in favour, hope I'm able to do it and everyone with a problem has to get over it!

Penguinita · 04/05/2013 07:47

Thanks Holly, that makes me feel better.

I think they are maybe delaying the scan so I can have the combined test for DS at the same time. But I'm a bit concerned that if I have to wait until 11+5 before they book my scan then if they are busy I might not get it within the recommended window.

Should I chase it up I wonder? Who should I call (midwife or hospital antenatal unit)?

About BF, I went to a party the other week and my friend managed to BF very discreetly in the lounge in the middle of the party. She just took a chair into a corner and wrapped a shawl around her. Hardly anyone even noticed and nobody seemed to be bothered by it. I was impressed - its a personal thing though, and you should just do what you are comfortable with IMO.

Is anyone else waking up really early? It's been between 5am and 6am for me all week. I'm shattered!

Featherbag · 04/05/2013 08:14

Nice to see you back Music, so sorry you're having to go through all this worry but sounds like you're in good hands!

Re bf - after becoming obsessed with making it work to the point of ruining my first few weeks with DS (he was over 4 weeks when we brought him home, had been expressing milk which was tube-fed to him until shortly before that), I'm not worrying about it. DH is already worrying about how I'll cope if it doesn't go well again, but given that most of the problems, and the eventual failure, last time were down to me going against my instincts because they didn't match the professional advice, I'm going to have a totally different attitude this time!

If it doesn't work for me, dc2, or our family, I will ff rather than work myself up into raging PND. I will not feel guilty. I really want to bf, but I'm going to keep at the front of my mind that it really isn't the most important thing in the whole world, and isn't worth any price. However, if I can do it, I will bf where/whenever I need to!

LadyMedea · 04/05/2013 08:29

Hi music. Tutorial fr converting jeans is here although I did them without the additional elastic and they are fine. Anyone with basic sewing skills should be able to do it.

Means you can get jeans you know will fit. You cold even redo them from narrow band to over bump as bump gets bigger.

PistachioTruffle · 04/05/2013 08:34

I tried some under bump jeans on in topshop yesterday, they were so comfortable it's unreal! The effect was quite extraordinary though, I went from looking like I had just put on a bit of podge around the middle, to looking like I had a proper, fully formed baby bump! I realise the bump is entirely made of bloat as baby is still raspberry-sized, but it gave me quite a shock. I'm not sure I'm quite ready for that yet!

My boobs have stopped hurting though, which I find slightly worrying Confused

The reason they do the first scan at around 12 weeks is because that is when it is most accurate for a dating scan . The nuchal scan can be done up until 13+5 and still be accurate .

Sympathies with all those with clothing issues, feel your pain. Am going shopping for some leggings one size up and hopefully really soft ands stretchy to combine with some of my baggier clothes to see me through to maternity wear.

Got first part of the Harmony test on Tuesday, will be 10+1 then. Will get results back and have nuchal scan done at same time 2 weeks later.

Recently got a permanent contract at work after freelancing there a while and boss has put me in a key role in a big 2 year project. I feel like such a cow re the timing Sad people will probably think I cynically timed it like that, but I didn't, I'm an old bird and knew I couldn't hang around and try to time things so we started TTC when I had no idea what my job propsects were going to be. Hope boss believes me, he's a nice guy and has been very fair to me.

musiceverywhere · 04/05/2013 10:28

Thanks ladymedea, looks tricky but maybe worth trying if will save lots of cash!
Pistachio! Nice to see you, trying maternity wear sounds strange, I've had a 'bump' for months, now suspect it was due to this 8cm cyst they've found (and a few doughnuts I'm sure!) but will be weird when I start to 'dress' for pregnancy...
Had first midwife appt yesterday, total anticlimax. She wasn't particularly 'warm', didn't feel like I could ask her anything personal. Her main concern was where I wanted to have baby. I explained story so far and that it'll prob make more sense to have baby where I work (as will have had surgery there etc) and she said she can't refer me there herself, the GP has to do it! So I have to waste an appointment (telephone) to ask the GP to refer me :( Receptionist was not v impressed when I said the MW wouldn't do it herself. So I got a few leaflets, but basically felt that as I wasn't going to one of 'her' hospitals, she wasn't interested. Ah well, mainly waiting for consultant appointment at moment, have so many questions!

Iris1 · 04/05/2013 12:22

Hi everyone. Theres so many on here is hard to keep up.
After worrying about my referal my first appointment has just come through. It is very vague though just says antenatal general so dont think its a scan. Pretty annoyed as its nearly 3 weeks away and by then i may be anything between 12 and 16 weeks. So peed off just want a scan so I can know my dates :(!!!

Ive only ever bought few maternity items with previous pregnancies. I find it easier to live in jersey maxi skirts, leggings and longgg vest tops. Baggy jumpers in winter :)

FoxyRoxy · 04/05/2013 13:35

I have got no bump or bloat yet, I compared a pic from the same time with my last baby and the difference is huge! If I hadn't seen the wee bean and heard the hb and if I wasn't feeling so sick constantly I would be worried!

2Labradors · 04/05/2013 13:58

Hi lovely mummies.

I've not posted for a while. I'm 9 weeks 5 days today and had my 1st proper midwife appointment for booking in last Tuesday. In my area, you have a pre-booking appointment too which is a group session called early bird at around 6-8 weeks pregnant.

My actual booking in appointment was a joke. Another midwife came in half way and swapped with the midwife already doing paperwork. Neither of these midwives were my midwife. The scales I was weighed on weren't on 0 so my starting weight/BMI is slightly higher than reality. I pointed it out so the midwife's idea of checking was to get on the scales herself and say 'yeah, that's about my weight so they're probably right'. I had to explain about my bleeds twice (as I had 2 different midwives during the appointment). I asked advice on what I should do if I bleed again and should I contact my midwife. She said no and that my hospital would just arrange to see me. I've had another bleed since and after leaving a message on the hospital answer machine and waiting for a call back, I was advised that they will only see me once a midwife has referred me again!!
I had glucose in my urine and the midwife said it needs checking again next week but as I don't see my midwife until 16weeks now there's no way it could be checked.

Luckily, I work in a GP surgery and one of our practice midwives will check my urine for me next week. I also got advice regarding my bleed from the midwife at work. But, otherwise, what would I have done?

I asked the first midwife in my appointment about joining slimming world as it had been mentioned in the pre-booking appointment and I was very interested. She said there isn't a plan for slimming world. The second midwife said she'd just completed the slimming world form for another mum and to go for it!

On a cheerier note: I took my ultrasound form to the hospital myself and I have my 12week scan booked on 23rd may, I will be 12 week 3 days. I go for all my bloods on Tuesday. And I've joined slimming world Grin

mumoftwoboysS · 04/05/2013 14:26

Does anyone have any tips for morning sickness?? I had it pretty mild with my first two. Feel sick as a dog today Sad and yesterday visited a friend who's suffered horrendous hyperemesis- I don't know how she coped! I'm being pathetic but I'm finding feeling sick makes it really hard to do anything and even harder to look after my DS's!

so far salt and vinegar crisps have helped a bit, orange squash... couldn't finish my cup of tea this morning or my chocolate biscuit! (so unlike me) I eat pretty healthily usually, but now thoughts of healthy stuff also make my stomach churn.

sorry for the moan...

Michellephant · 04/05/2013 15:10

I had my reassurance scan yesterday and everything was all looking good :) got another one in two weeks that they offered me without even needing to ask and then I'll have the dreaded harmony test at 10 weeks. Not sure how I'll feel if history repeats itself :( although everything was good yesterday I cried waiting to be scanned because they scanned me in the room that confirmed my first baby had a heart defect :( I got through it though but I was drained after visiting my baby's memorial tree afterwards so I've only just got onto the computer to update you all :)

Oh and my dates are two days out, I'm now due (temporarily no doubt) on 23rd December. I bet the dates will change again next time knowing my luck :p

Penguinita · 04/05/2013 16:12

So I just put a batch of chocolate chip cookies in the oven and then realised that I can't lick the beaters or bowl because the mix has raw egg in it. Gaaaaa - torture!!! Shock

Dasie · 04/05/2013 16:40

Hi ladies,

I've booked to have a harmony test too due to my age (I'm 39) next Sunday when I should be 10+4. I'll have a dating scan before the blood tests so I'm looking forward to finally see the bean. Also got my 12 week scan on May 23rd and my consultant appt on the 24th so I finally feel like things are moving on

For the ladies who are having delays seeing their MW I think there seems to be a definite postcode lottery on the time scales. I had my gp appt on a Friday and the MW telephoned me the following Tuesday to arrange my appt, I was exactly 8 weeks when I had my booking in appt.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend Smile

Penguinita · 04/05/2013 16:43

By the way, sorry if my last post seemed a bit flippant after yours Michellephant, I didn't read the thread first. Sounds like yesterday was a real emotional roller coaster for you. Congrats on the good scan result.

Also sorry to all the people with MS for whom cookies are the last thing you want to think about... Smile

mumoftwoboysS · 04/05/2013 16:56

Dasie- I am 7 weeks and phoned to get a mw apt and they can't give me one till I'm10 weeks! Bit rubbish...

I know I'm a newbie so sorry if I haven't read any former threads/don't know where the conversations are going but if anyone has any tips re my morning sickness moan I sure would appreciate it.

musiceverywhere · 04/05/2013 17:06

Hi Mumoftwo! I haven't had it badly (so far) just felt a bit nauseous, but all the advice I've had says eat 'little and often' and that seems to help. I'm the same with not feeling like eating healthy stuff, don't think I've ever craved junk food so much. Hopefully some ppl will have better advice soon!
Michellephant, glad your scan was positive, it must have been v emotional. At least now they're giving you the extra care you need.

TakingTheStairs · 04/05/2013 17:22

Michelle glad to hear the scan went well, though I am sorry that it was so tough for you.

Mumoftwo My nausea started at 5+3 and it took me until 7 weeks to figure out that I felt way worse after dairy products. Maybe see if there is a connection between when you feel at your worst and what you've eaten prior to that. I didn't cut it out completely, still have butter on toast & milk in my tea but not much more than that. No bowls of cereal, yoghurts, cheese etc. It made a MASSIVE difference to my nausea levels.
As music said. Little & often. Don't let yourself get too hungry as that made it worse for me.
The evening vomiting started for me about 8 weeks but after a week of that, suddenly my nausea levels are much better. Maybe only one or two little bouts of nausea a day. Vomiting has stopped too. I'm 9+3 now.
Just letting you know that it mightn't last as long as you think. I presumed I'd feel rubbish right until the end of the first trimester, and don't get me wrong, the nausea may come back again, but for now I seem to have a break from it.

Can I ask, for those having Harmony tests, are you all in London or is the test available outside London too?

Dasie · 04/05/2013 18:50

Little I'm in North Yorkshire. Found a couple of private clinics near me that offer the test so guess it will be available countrywide. They send the bloods to the USA for analysis.
