Any one else hoping for a 2014 baby?

I'm hesitantly dipping my baby toe in the pool after having a mc last October. I'm 4+2 today with my first and hoping and praying this one sticks.

Here's to 2014!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 09/05/2013 13:03

Right, clearly we all need something cute to cheer us up.

Here's a baby duck, trying not to fall asleep. I almost wept at the cuteness:

MissMedusa · 09/05/2013 13:08

Strange new pregnancy symptom: elephant foot.
My left foot is swollen, I haven't hurt it and the right one is fine. Very bizarre and slightly worrying.

Hello everyone and congrats to newcomers!

I'm hoping cramps are normal, as I've been quite twingy too. I guess things are shuffling around a lot in there.

New symptom of the day - stupidity. I'm at uni doing a part time masters, and have been basically sitting here with my mouth open for most of the morning. I'm going to blame preoccupation combined with sleepiness.

In other news, the truchbull midwife from last time around seems to have left, and the one I spoke to to make an appointment sounds much friendlier! Hurrah.

Good luck to everyone seeing their midwife today or soon :)

TobyLerone · 09/05/2013 14:23

Right. My midwife is lovely. And she said that twinges and cramps are perfectly normal, as long as they're not really painful or prolonged. If you're worried, go to A&E or EPU.

You heard it here first, fact fans!

That baby duck is adorable!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 09/05/2013 14:55

Yay toby!

Hurrah that you've seen her - how do you feel now? Any more settled?

TobyLerone · 09/05/2013 14:59

Absolutely no different!

MissMedusa · 09/05/2013 15:18

Argh! Just had a massive craving for licorice allsorts. Bought a big bag and about to tuck in when I decide to google just in case and apparently they're out during pregnancy. I had no idea!

Any other odd things we should be avoiding?

OP posts:
enjoyingscience · 09/05/2013 15:50

Wow, I've never heard that one before! I wonder why?

Can't think of anything else wild or wonderful we should be avoiding. Cutting down on tea is hard enough.

Sultanajo · 09/05/2013 15:57

Humpty the duckling is sooooo cute! I think that's how a lot of us are feeling right now too, so I can empathise with it!!! Wink

Enjoy - I am with you with the "stupidity" symptom! I kept entering a date at my computer at work yesterday and was getting quite irrate that it wasn't giving me the results I was expecting and after 15 minutes of ranting at the screen I realised I had put the wrong year!!! So pleased your new midwife sounds nice and friendly! Hurray!

Toby hurray for another lovely midwife and thanks for the confirmation from official sources about cramps and pains!

Humpty my booking in appointment isn't until 28th May, when I will be 8+6 - feels like AGES away and then will have another 3 weeks after that until the scan I reckon. Still, good to have small milestones to work towards I guess....

MissMedusa - I bought some blackcurrant and liquorice sweets and thankfully did the same as you and googled just to check and was shocked when I found out they aren't recommended! Gutted! Am sure there was something else really random I discovered at the same time, but can I remember now...? Wink

Sultanajo · 09/05/2013 15:59

Also realised I put two separate posts for Humpty in one message - new symptom "losing it"!!! I proof read my post and EVERYTHING! There is no hope - just have to accept that I am going to be a bit random from now on....Confused

MrsAVB · 09/05/2013 16:03

Afternoon all!
pea, congrats on the wedding, am sure you will find something gorgeous to wear. I love love love weddings Smile. My temperature has also been really odd, hot and cold and taking a while to regulate, eg. not warming up when I've put on an extra jumper and got into bed for a while and then being boiling hot.
humpty, toby, sad, sunny - good luck with the house hunting. I am well jel. We have a lovely 1 bed flat in an area we really like but don't want to live in forever but are tied to with our jobs. So we've decided that rather than moving to somewhere slightly bigger in the same area that we wouldn't want to be in forever, we'll stay put until after bean is (FX) born and we have more of an idea of what we want to do about me working. Child care is so expensive where we are that it would barely be worth me going back to work, so if I decide not to go back to my current job we'll have more freedom to move somewhere else (but less money). Is anyone else bringing up baby (or thinking of it) in a 1 bed flat?
extra and book I have been getting quite sharp cramps too, but only when I move unusually, like twist or something. Am hoping this is just me stretching things but still a little anxious. Also boob pain has almost entirely gone now. But nausea still in full force and am constantly shattered. I helped a lady carry her baby and pushchair up the stairs at the station this morning and then felt like I needed a lie down!
crab I am feeling crappy about work too. Am finding my job quite dull and frustrating at the mo and being pg has just added to a lack of motivation, and am worried that things are busy and i need to pull my socks up. Plus I am resentful; I was looking for a new job before getting up the duff and am annoyed that I have to put that off now and that having a baby will likely set back my career.
frizz congrats on your wedding and quick up-duff-ment! Exciting stuff!
missm no way re. the liquorish allsorts! No fair!
laalaap congrats and welcome!
Hope everyone's having a good afternoon... Xxx

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 09/05/2013 16:28

toby maybe the first scan will reassure you? Or maybe as I suspect I will you won't really believe it until you are in labour? Hmm

MissMedusa apparently it's the glycyrrhizin (yes, I copied and pasted that word) which can affect brain development. You would need to eat 100g of pure licquorice a week to have an effect. HTH!

sultanajo that was my earliest symptom - staring into space, forgetting words, being daft, also falling down steps for no reason! I think it's like a pregnancy bubble, and I'm staying in mine! I know what you mean about scans being ages away though. I've just arranged to see my Mum next Tues and my Dad the Monday after to tell them (wanted to do it face to face), so that will help pass the time, having milestones like that to look forward to.

MrsAVB we have to move - our (rental) flat won't have space for a cot, and there's no decent schools for miles. But if you own, I think you can always make the best of your space - we have two tiny bedrooms, neither of which would fit a cot around the landlord's furniture! Plus, once you have bean, you can decide how much you need a garden/garage/ground floor property etc - so hard to know now what's going to be important! Also, re sharp cramps when moving - yes me too. Reassuring, isn't it, when you're not the only one!

Having a very chilled afternoon (at work Grin) just MN'ing (I loathe my boss and would happily stab him in the eye, this is the next best thing!) and then driving lesson later. I must remember how to reverse around a corner, I must I must I must!

TobyLerone · 09/05/2013 16:44

The first scan will definitely reassure me. And then the 12 week one. And then the DS screening tests...

Good grief, MissMedusa, what on earth made you google liquorice? I wouldn't even have thought about it!

MissMedusa · 09/05/2013 17:10

Hahaha! I have the day off and just hanging around the house keeping my elephant foot elevated and googling all manner of things pregnancy related. :-P

I remember reading some time back that pineapple is bad news too . . . must go google.

Hellloooo ladies. Well I really did jinx it the other day when I said I wanted to feel sick as since last night I have felt sick!! Its not unbearable yet but still not nice. I've had a funeral 2day & have had to come home from the wake early as just felt so ill sitting in the pub. We told everyone I had a migraine! Am still trying to eat as well as I can & atm its ok. Am very very tired which is unlike me. With dd & dsd i keep pretty busy & like my late nights but now its like 5pm zzzzzzzzzz. I have my docs appointment 2moro so v much looking forward to that & getting the ball rolling, see what she says about early scans etc. Am sure we don't see midwife til we r 10 weeks here though x

MrsAVB · 09/05/2013 17:55

humpty, we are renting too, but there's plenty of room to fit a cot in our room, and you're right, I'd rather move when we know what's priority; at the moment this flat meets our needs just fine.
missm step away from dr google! I think you could google pretty much anything + pregnancy and find something bad...so eat those liquorish allsorts... Just maybe not all at once Grin.
Now... What to have for dinner.... Hmm

SunnySentiments · 09/05/2013 18:12

Evening all.

Winter do you twins run in your family? My dad (and aunt) are twins, no idea if that means I?m more likely to have them though. Think DH would have a heart attack if we had 2 on our first go!

Gobbo thanks for the tip re booking NCT classes early. That?s another reason for wanting to move sooner rather than later, so we can get settled in new area and name some ?mummy and daddy? friends once the bean arrives.

Wardy re DTD, me and DH have only once since the BFP, and I must admit to worrying during the event if it would affect the little bean!

Laa welcome and congratulations.

I haven?t had any symptoms yet Book. Although someone in the office had mackerel for lunch today which made me want to vom.

In other news, we have a stats thread! Hope this link works! Stats Thread

SunnySentiments · 09/05/2013 18:15

Yay it worked Grin

Please excuse my typo in post above. name some= make some obviously

HabitualHobbyist · 09/05/2013 18:18

Toby very pleased your appointment well today and you were reassured as to the twinges.

Pea I really don't envy you having to organise both a wedding and plan for bump's arrival, but I am very jealous of you getting married. Had such a super wedding day myself and wish I could do it again every year (only without the planning, stress and cost!)

Symptoms changing slightly today - first feeling of slight nausea this morning. Not sure if it's baby related or just as a consequence of riding on a stuffy and wobbly train. Also, I've been feeling like I've got trapped wind but right up under my ribs. When I eat it physically feels as if I'm already full and there's no more room, but I'm starving and (for once this week) haven't been snacking this week.

I don't know if it's me being paranoid, but I feel like I look a bit bigger in the belly - like middle aged spread Hmm (perhaps it's just the trapped wind! [Wink]

lovelilies · 09/05/2013 18:49

Hi all, haven't read all the 500+ messages on here so far, just got a bfp even though AF not due til 11th!
dc2 due 17th Jan Smile

MrsAVB · 09/05/2013 19:26

Thanks for the stats Fred sunny. And welcome and congrats lovelilies xxx

encinta · 09/05/2013 19:51

winter I understand your worries about twins. I have lots of multiplies on my side of the family. I'm a bit concerned as my work trousers are definitely too tight. Thought it was too early to start popping out but I guess baby has other ideas. Lol. My older sister, who had twins at my age, told the hubby and I not to have sex this year unless we want twins! Turns out I was pregnant when she was giving us the lecture!

Has anyone else been drinking ginger tea to help with nausea? I know it takes a few days to get into your system but I'm nearing desperate for a remedy.

chocoloulou33 · 09/05/2013 19:52

ooh we have a stats thread yey. My nausea has passed hurray x

lovelilies · 09/05/2013 20:25

Anyone else getting terrible headaches? Sad Nausea too but I took a metoclopramide tablet (are they ok?) and it's helped.
I'm also feeling rotten because dp (doesn't live with me and my dd yet, we're currently house hunting) has decided he wants to stay at his tonight and 'sort some stuff out' when pushed, he said his head is all over the place Sad and he loves me.
I was Angry and Sad because it's our first evening we could spend together since bfp, and he's on call tomorrow and all weekend...
Men! Aargh. Not how I imagined this. We've been TTC, so I am hurt by his staying away... what do you guys think?
