Welcome back all June-ers, just realised we were about to run out of space on the old thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sorry about your cat Sunny, that's so sad.

Knomski, can you send some contractions over here? I'm bored now.

There is definitely something to be said for putting your feet up though - having barely done a thing since Tuesday, I feel better than I have for a month.

Still no progress. I think this baby is going to stay put until they dig it out.

Since I'm avoiding looking at my bank account at the moment, I have no idea which bills got paid this month, so I seriously hope my Husband is not spending money rings! (Actually I know he won't - I have an engagement ring but not a wedding ring because I'm not that fussed about them!)

MrsBri · 05/05/2013 08:05

If there's options it seems that it isn't really a proper tradition!

My dad has clearly failed, unless he will go for the 60th anniversary in 19 years' time!

We certainly don't have the money for it as DH hasn't found consistent work yet, but I had to make sure I told him no, as I know he would buy a ring if he thought it was tradition!

Luckily, he thought 10 years like me, and even then I really don't mind either way.

Also, my wedding and engagement rings are an unusual design and a third ring won't fit in with them, so that's another reason not to bother.

And I still think it is premature after less than a year of marriage, even if we do have a child.

But as I said, each to their own!

MrsBri · 05/05/2013 08:07

Cycle, are they doing a c section soon if baby fails to come naturally?

MrsBri · 05/05/2013 08:53

On a different note, I've had my first experience of a foot in my ribs this morning. It's not pleasant, is it?!

I think the way Baby B has been lying, combined with being rather tall, has saved me til now. He also feels quite tall, it has to be said. I may mention it to the midwife next week and see what she thinks!

Littlemissexpecting · 05/05/2013 08:55

I'm not going to hint anything to DH. I hate the term push present. If he gets me a gift bonus but personally I would prefer it if he didn't. We are going away for our wedding anniversary so would rather spend the money on a nice lunch/dinner/activity etc then.
Regarding resting now I'm on mat leave I have told him I am taking some time out to rest. Not all day, but not to come home and expect to see I've done loads! I want this baby in June not May so thought I would do my bit to help.

MrsBri · 05/05/2013 09:06

Good plan, littlemiss. I'm not intending on rushing round now I'm on mat leave either.

I'll do bits and bobs, but nothing too drastic!

I want to re-pack my hospital bag as its so full and I'm sure I can streamline it somehow.

I'm taking time for me, then I'll think about everything else later on! :-)

DontmindifIdo · 05/05/2013 09:22

Oh, another thing I've just been told, DH apparently can stay over with me, but in our hospital he'd just be in a chair next to me. so he's going to throw a sleeping bag and travel sleep mat thing in the boot of the car this week so it's there if he does stay over. not putting it in my hospital bag, he can always pop down to the carpark and get it. Worth asking if dads can stay and if so, putting something like that in the boot just in case.

SunnyL · 05/05/2013 09:31

Interesting Dontmind. I think our plan is to send DH home for a sleep since its better that only one of us is knackered. Although DH does spend a lot of time at the hospital and he's been joking that because he knows quite a few of the staff he should be able to sort himself out a takeway and bed for the night with ease (he's a copper so has to spend lots of time babysitting crims who have suddenly decided they have chest pains upon sight of the cells).

Gorgeous morning up here. Just been wandering up the high street trying to find the people that found our cat and sat with him yesterday until we came. Can't find them yet but it's a small village - just want to say thank you to them. We lived in the city before and I don't think we'd have had the same kind of compassion where we used to live.

pinkapples · 05/05/2013 09:53

Love the idea of putting stuff in the boot for hubby but we have 3 cars so don't know which one wed take in an emergency hehe especially as he drives one and I drive the other

Hubby and I are going out for dinner tonight figured we needed to spend as much time together as physically possible as baby will be here soon 5 weeks on Tuesday if she's on time well see

Also on the contents of the hospital bag conversation what is everyone packing for themselves in terms of clothes? I think I have everything else but not sure about what to pack for me got babies things and my none exciting stuff eg pads knickers etc but what about actual clothing? So far have a black vest top although I'm not sure that's going to get me very far on its own??

cyclecamper · 05/05/2013 10:21

MrsBri, They are going to induce me on Tuesday if the baby doesn't turn up before and hopefully I won't need a section although the way it's hanging on they might have to drag it out!

I have been wearing leggings and t-shirts, mostly, although I have a dress today. It helped that I stacked everything where I knew where it was so that I can write down descriptions for my husband and he can track stuff down.

Littlemissexpecting · 05/05/2013 10:24

Pink I have put in 2 nighties with buttons down front and a pair of pyjamas (that look like leggings and nursing vest top) plus dressing gown. Not got round to normal clothes. I'll probably chuck in what's clean when I go into labour so probably leggings and a top, or a dress for coming home and what ever I'm wearing when I go into labour. Hoping that will be enough. How many pants is everyone talking? Anyone taking disposables or just cheap black pants?
I've also got packed:
Pack of maternity towels (hope 1 pack is enough).
Slippers
Flip flops for shower
Flannel (and need to ask if I need to take towels for shower)
Handful of breast pads (10-20)
Toiletries (bought miniatures if ones I like)
Bottle of squash
To pack:
Hair brush, hair bobbles, snacks, clothes to come home,
Have I missed anything?

MrsBri · 05/05/2013 10:24

Pink, so far I have 2 nursing nighties, an inappropriate dressing gown as it is pink satin and some paper pants!

I've ordered a couple of sleep nursing bras from JojoMB which will get packed on arrival, along with my big pants which are currently airing.

I should probably pack some clothes for coming home in, but no idea what I'm taking!

Oh, discovered a 10% discount code for JojoMB yesterday, which is MM82, I think.

And you get Nectar points if you go through that website too. Bonus.

Littlemissexpecting · 05/05/2013 10:25

Mrs Bri sorry missed your post, I agree feet in ribs is not very pleasant but good sign lo is head down!
Pink enjoy your meal with DH. I think we need to try to do similar, make more time while it is just the 2 of us.

Littlemissexpecting · 05/05/2013 10:29

Forgot to add (as hiding in side pocket) couple of packs of tissues and some bendy straws.
Need to get nursing bras but lady in JL wouldn't measure me so early as baby is yet to drop.
Baby stuff in separate bag (hoping to squeeze it into change bag).

MrsBri · 05/05/2013 10:31

It's whether he stays there, littlemiss! Hasn't been able to make his mind up to date :-)

And I am taking disposable knickers as well as black ones. Not sure if I'll use them, but I may as well have them with me!

MrsBri · 05/05/2013 10:34

Littlemiss, the sleep ones I got come in small, medium and large, so you don't need measuring for them.

Hopefully I'll make it to 36 weeks for measuring to get ones for the day, so then I'll be fully stocked. If not, the sleep ones will do for the interim!

DontmindifIdo · 05/05/2013 10:35

I've packed 2 front opening nightshirts (I'm normally a size 8 pre-baby, I've bought size 16 to be on the safe side, better too big than too little!), I'm putting in a wrap dress for going home and hopefully my one pair of maternity pj bottoms will be clean so I can throw those in, unfortuately vertually none of my maternity wear would be suitable for breast feeding.

Re DH staying, when I had DS, afterwards my fingers swelled up so I could'nt bend my hands properly and had to mash the midwife call button with this great fat sausage hands to get them to pick up DS everytime he cried to hand him to me. I thought it might be better with DH this time round... (And I'll be in for 2-3 days as it's a c section so he can have a good night's sleep the following night).

pinkapples · 05/05/2013 11:50

I haven't got disposable knickers I bough cheap cotton ones 10 for 5 pound on eBay of the black variety then I can just throw them

forgetmenots · 05/05/2013 14:08

I've got a primark black maxi dress (just long and simple, jersey type) and sandals for leaving hospital. Even at the moment finding that a much comfier feeling than most of my clothes!! Would recommend their maxis actually :)

Baby (who was sitting facing out) is now 'left occiput transverse' so I'm hoping that means turning in stages - have posted in childbirth asking for help figuring it out! Head moving down too, hooray!

Olimoss · 05/05/2013 16:50

Oh, I don't care if they call it push present or an 'I love you, I love our new family present', it's a lovely sentiment and not one I'd requested. So if boyfriend wants to mark the occasion then I'm not going to stop him. And although we have a dog and a mortgage together we aren't married and so I suppose if he does go for the ring option then it kind of marks a new phase of our life together as a three.

I've packed the baby's hospital bag, much easier than working out what to put in mine. I spent this morning painting the new back fence instead. Probably should start thinking bout my bag but as someone else pointed out earlier, fat-gut maternity clothes are in short supply so kind of need them now for wearing, not sitting in a bag. I'm also feeling very zen about the whole hospital thing, inasmuch as worse case scenario is someone can just bring in whatever I forget, if indeed I forget. Must be these new antibiotics I'm on turning me all loopy.

Just home from a lovely surprise baby shower, and feeling very lucky at the group of friends I have who function as my family here in the UK. NewHuman is very fortunate to have them looking out for him.

AlohaMama · 05/05/2013 17:35

Sounds lovely oli. I know from experience what a difference it makes to have good friends around when your family are the other side of the world.

Had a lovely dinner out with dh last night, a restaurant that was on our hawaii bucket lit and probably last meal out before new baby arrives. Today I need to encourage him to get something ticked off our to do list to help me cope with stress levels as our house will probably go on market around same time as baby is born.

Still haven't done hospital bag but I printed out the list so shouldn't be too hard to do in a hurry. Tbh I need most of the stuff still so can't pack it. Plus last time hospital gave me everything I needed and I wore their gown (no point ruining my own) so all I really need is going home outfit for me and baby, plus a few snacks, and maybe one thing to wear in bed when visitors come. It's ds bag that's more complicated and can't do that till last minute anyway.

Cycle and knomski hope you're not getting too sick of being in hospital. Not long now.

not really sure if anyone will be able to help or offer any advice but when my baby stretches (at least that's what it feels like) he pushes his head right out and either his bum or feet right down and it feels like loads of pressure in my bottom area (he is breech) is this normal? its quite painful :-(

learnermummy · 05/05/2013 22:29

I think it's lovely that he wants to treat you Oli Grin.

Had a lovely weekend away with DH and lovely meal last night with a proper chance to chat. He's let on that he's petrified if missing this birth (he works 40 mins away) and worried I'm going to be on my own. Got me worried now!! Haven't lived here that long and don't know anyone well enough to rope in as emergency birth partner!! Am praying for middle of night or weekend delivery now!

learnermummy · 05/05/2013 23:23

Littlemissexpecting saw your post on arnica but didn't want to post there as there were a few arsey responses. I often use arnica and do believe it helps. For birth I'll be getting the 200c strength (possibly online).Good to take during labour if you remember, otherwise just after. My midwives have recommended it in the past.

Sunbeam18 · 05/05/2013 23:28

Learner, I think you'll be beyond lucky if your labour lasts under 40 minutes!
