Welcome back all June-ers, just realised we were about to run out of space on the old thread.

I'm a bit more in control this afternoon. I say the lady from the neonatal ward this morning and she was lovely so I cried all over her! Blush She gave me some booklets about having a premature baby which at least helps me feel informed, even if still out of control. I feel bad being so wet when others here are struggling not to lose their baby at 19 weeks.

Getting my head around the idea that my baby might have to spend to spend time away from me in the neonatal ward is hard. I thing it's difficult to let go of the idea that you will have your baby and head home as soon as the drugs wear off - I'm going to be here much longer than I'd imagined and there is a small chance that I might have to go home and leave the baby in hospital that which is something that you assume happens to other people! It will probably all be fine none of the worst case things will happen, and I'll feel like a terrible drama queen! Fingers crossed that it's all just about-to-go-into-labour hormones and the awkward baby will make it's way out with no issues or prompting in the next day or so!

Steffanoid · 03/05/2013 17:01

I wouldn't worry about crying on people cycle, my emotions have been ragged all over the place today, we've had, happy sad tearful furious elated worried and distraught all over nothing

DontmindifIdo · 03/05/2013 18:13

cycle - crying is fine! Don't bottle it up.

Sarah - re music - do you have an ipod or iphone? You can pick up speakers like this that are very compact, that's not much more to have in your bag, so just do a delivery playlist.

One tip I've been given this week by someone who had ELCS recently, she said that she was told they wouldn't be able to deliver her DS onto her because they needed to stitch her up and something about the pressure of hte baby on her chest, so her DH held their new baby to her cheek - apparently if you cna't do skin to skin the normal way, this is considered quite a good alternative.

pinkbear82 · 03/05/2013 18:18

cycle - just realised my friend gave birth to her little boy just before she 35 weeks - he was due in Jan this year and came before Christmas! she was at work when her waters broke.

anyways, he was 4lb something when born, a little jaundice and needed a little bit of help with his breathing but only for a day or so. she was in with him for a week.

he is now hitting normal on everything. he was a slight monster at feeding for a while as he caught up, but he is doing amazinglying well and you wouldn't know now he was early.
and my friend said even tho they were separated she was still encouraged to do bits with him so the bonding still happened nicely.

I know that won't stop how you are feeling (I think it's wonderful you are voicing it, keeping it in would be much worse) but hope it's a little reassurance. Are there any mums there at the same stage as you\were when bubs was born - could you chat with them and see how they coped with it?

I'm off to have a bath - have possibly overdone the house work today! but landlords around tomorrow as we are due to sign a new contract - fab timing Confused they are quite rightly a little worried how everything will pan out but am hoping it'll all be ok.

still no sign of the ginger ninja - he's having a right old adventure!

cyclecamper · 03/05/2013 18:46

Thank you Pinkbear Smile

MrsBri · 03/05/2013 18:58

Cycle, I hope you're feeling better now. I can't imagine everything that's going through your head right now. I hope your DH is being supportive too.

Sunny, how often do you travel abroad? How lovely for your baby to be able to go with you. First stop is for passport photos for baby!!

I've just been and bought some cheap and decidedly hideous HUGE black pants for after birth. But at £2.50 for 4 pairs from Primark, they will do me as being disposable! :-) I also got a pair of £1 flip flops for using in the showers. Sorted!

pinkapples · 03/05/2013 19:05

Having mega tightenings tonight very uncomfortable Hmm

Try not to worry cycle and cry on whoever you want they should understand hope your feeling a little better

RueDeWakening · 03/05/2013 19:22

Cycle feel free to pm me or ask questions on here about neonatal and what it's like Smile we went through is with DS, who was in there for 5 weeks and came home at 36 weeks gestation. Redwelly has been there too fwiw.

Ask them about colostrum harvesting, and get them to help you do it, store it in the nicu freezer all labelled up with your name and hospital number on, once LO is born it'll be handy for either getting a bit ahead of yourself on expressing, or supplementing feeds.

AlohaMama · 03/05/2013 19:58

Just catching up. hope you're feeling a bit better. I can understand feeling like nothing has gone to plan. Tbh it's one of the reasons I'm not fussed about doing a birth plan thistime. It's useful to think through options but it just comes down to making choices one at a time as different things happen or different options are presented. I hope you're able to find someone who can talk you through likely scenarios.

Sorry to hear cat is still AWOL pinkbear. Hope he turns up soon.

Sunny, amazing your employer supports you traveling with a baby. I'd have thought they'd be too concerned about liability etc.

Evening all. I'm looking after my other baby this evening - my darling pooch. Shes been in having surgery today on some weird growth on the back of her head. She's got 8 stitches, a cone of shame and looks like Frankenstein-pooch. Bless her. Very unhappy.

Yeah it all sounds good at the moment travelling with an infant. Wonder if I'll be so happy when I'm actually doing it. I also know DH gets quite lonely when I travel so wonder how he will feel when I take babs off with me.

Cycle our NCT lady was trying to get us to refer to our birth plans as 'birth preferences'. Personally all I've written on mine so far is 'give it a wipe before you hand it over'.

AmIGoingMad · 03/05/2013 21:10

Hi! Sorry I've been a bit rubbish this week as have had the week from hell in work. Been catching up on the thread for most of the evening.

Cycle- I agree that it's good that your voicing these worries as it really will help you to talk about them instead of bottling them up. You sound like you're doing a brilliant job so don't beat yourself up. Sending you hugs x

Pinkbear- sorry to hear about the outcome with your dp. I hope that he gets transferred and then out as soon as possible. It's good to hear that you have a good support network around you. Also sending hugs to you x. And hoping that ginger ninja reappears soon!

I hope that all of you who've started maternity leave are enjoying and managing to rest up a bitSmile

I have three weeks left, then a week off for school hols and then I've said I'll go bk for a week but I think that might need to be changed as I'm finding it all a bit much at the moment!

Can't remember who asked about wedding outfit- if you don't mind second hand I've noticed loads of Tiffany rose dresses going for reasonable prices on eBay in last few weeks which could be an option?

Off to sleep now as have exhausted myself this week. Night night ladies!

Littlemissexpecting · 03/05/2013 21:36

Mrs Bri I could have wrote your post. I too have been to primark and bought the same pants and flip flops!!
I bought the pants a couple of sizes up and tried them on when I got home and they are not as big as I thought they would be Blush
Also bought a couple of nighties with buttons down the front for the hospital.
Think I've now got everything for my hospital bag apart from snacks.
With regards to a coming home outfit for me, it will be what ever is clean! Is anyone packing an outfit now? I don't know whether to put some leggings and top in my bag but then I can't wear them for the next few weeks. I don't have a huge amount of mat clothes that fit me now!
Done too much today though, I'm exhausted and very achy so off to bed.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

MrsBri · 03/05/2013 22:06

And I could have written that about going home clothes in your post too! I have the same dilemma.

It's a bit confusing, isn't it? Especially with a decreasing wardrobe.

I have snacks packed. Need to buy water yet though. We do have Capri Sun in there already though.

You may want to wash the pants as they smell very chemical. I got size 18-20. Huge!! But also not as big as I thought they'd be!

learnermummy · 03/05/2013 22:27

Beat you on the pants - £2.50 for 5 pairs in Tesco Grin.

Looking forward to my spa day tomorrow with DH and night away tomorrow night. Hope we manage to find something that isn't child/baby related to talk about!!

Hope you're ok cycle.

cyclecamper · 03/05/2013 22:33

Thank you everyone Smile. I'm feeling a bit more together now. My husband came in and that helped. It's odd being a bit borderline - 2 weeks earlier would be intervention in neonatal, 2 weeks later would probably be home next day. We're somewhere between those!

I'm managing with some weird clothes because I told my husband where things were when I was sorting things out last week, but he was having a vague and didn't really pay attention. He has found the pregnancy clothes now (rollseyes) - I stacked them next to the hospital bag so that I could wear things and then put them in at the last minute. I sent the size 10 not pg leggings home that he found yesrterday. Lets hope nothing happens too messily tonight as I am wearing a Past Times white full length nighty, which isn't necessarily what I would chose! He has managed to sort out some better things now.

Thank you for all your support Smile.

SunnyL · 04/05/2013 04:27

Urghhh. I let the dog sleep with us tonight as she is so upset at having to wear her cone of shame to stop her pulling her stitches out. My GOD the farts though! Convinced the bed is floating on a cloud of eggy farts. Combine this with both dog and DH doing mild snoring and I'm beginning to wish i had some sharp imlements near me!

Thank god its the weekend and i can sleep in!

maisiebeem · 04/05/2013 06:36

Hello ladies, lots to catch up on!
knomski just read your reply from Wednesday- have you managed to keep babes in?
cycle feel for you too, hope your past times nighty is still intact! Hehe!
Dh and I had a dodgey dodgey 24hrs with vomiting and diahorrea on tues/Wednesday, I got worried that i would start prem labour, and dh was terrified that he wouldn't be able to do anything to help! Luckily both on the road to recovery, just keeping up with the liquid intake!
Thought we Had the decorator booked in to start the nursery on Monday- turns out he is very annoying hadn't booked us in! And replied saying- I could do it June 8th-10th?!! I calmly tried to explain that baby is due begining of June, to which he replied- but aren't first ones always late!!! Grrr! Luckily dh has managed to sweet talk him into doing it next weekend!
Have a builder coming today to put a cat flap in- (one of our cats broke his leg a while ago- just as we were introducing him to the great out doors! So both cats have been indoor cats) but with Lo's arrival want to have the cats trained to do their business outdoors- as otherwise I'm sure dh will make me do alllll the nappies and cat littler as he has been doing th cat littler for the past 8 months! Any tips on training a cat?? Has yours returned pink?
Happy weekend ladies!

Olimoss · 04/05/2013 07:28

cycle happy thoughts to you, hope they look after you well....And exciting your baby will be here so soon!

Our first NCT group baby has been born. All these things keep happening that make me go, 'holy shit this shit is getting real!'.

Boyfriend asked me yesterday what I want for a push present. That happening to anyone else?

learnermummy · 04/05/2013 07:45

Loving the 'push present' Grin
I got an eternity ring with the first but nothing since! Guess there's no money left now!!

Sarah2506 · 04/05/2013 08:04

Yep oli the baby will be buying me a Radley bag to say thanks to me for growing her:-)

learnermummy · 04/05/2013 08:07

Good idea Sarah, I'd love a new mulberry bag Grin. Suppose ill be back in nappy bag territory for a while though but do have nice pacapod one.

Olimoss · 04/05/2013 08:21

Was lucky enough to get a Mulberry for Xmas but do like the Bayswater tote......hmmmm.

He said no to a new car. Utterly unreasonable.

learnermummy · 04/05/2013 08:29

Totally unreasonable Oli Wink

DontmindifIdo · 04/05/2013 08:33

Olimoss - yay! DH isn't up on the whole push presents, although last time he bought me a new car on the grounds that now I was driving around our baby I should drive something that's got a decent NCAP (is that what it's called?) safety rating as my old rust bucket wasn't the greatest, however he kept stressing it wasn't a push present... Wink

If you're getting the option, traditionally it would be when you got an eternity ring, if it was my choice, it would be a channel set platinum eternity ring or some larger diamond stud earrings (I got smaller diamond studs for our "ten years since we had a drunken one night stand met).

I don't think I'll be getting a push present this time round. But then as I've just booked in for an ELCS I'm not going to be pushing... Grin

Knomski · 04/05/2013 08:44

Hi maisiebeem, my little one still hanging in there despite me still contracting. Docs are more concern about my c section scar rupturing as have had two previous c/s and prev scar rupture:/
I am going slightly mad being in hospital for so long an totally sympathise with cycle on the emotional outburst ;)

Glad you an hubby are better d+v is awful to have when preggers!
