Welcome back all June-ers, just realised we were about to run out of space on the old thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm alright with the baby itself (I'm a nanny and I've looked after smaller than this will be), it's kind of the suddeness I think. And the birth, where I feel that I'm probably going to end up with every single thing I was hoping to avoid (induction, epidural, lots of monitoring, possible CS etc). I know it's all going to be ok and it's for the good of the baby and me, I'm just having a hormone induced upset about the loss of choice! And I miss my husband - this is the most nights we've been apart since 2008. Soggy Smile. If any of you are in south London, that scraping noise is me trying to pull myself together!

pinkbear82 · 03/05/2013 08:20

sending a big hug cycle.
understandable to have a wobble, think it would be more worrying if you didn't!
don't beat yourself up over it, you are doing what's best for bubs, and then once bubs is here in your arms it'll have been a bump in the path that's worth it. x

Steffanoid · 03/05/2013 08:55

just try and remember it's one week out of the rest of your lives with the baby together, while you may not get to make choices now just remember there are so many other things you get to make the choices for, things that will influence tge person that your baby will become, try and stay chilled out about the labour itself, with any luck it'll be over quickly and just keep reminding yourself you've got the rest of your lives x

Littlemissexpecting · 03/05/2013 09:25

Cycle enjoy having your feet up and not having to do any of the mundane day to day tasks.
It's not much fun getting up at 1am as you have heartburn and tripping over DHs shoes. Then you wash the dinner pots cause you went to bed early and left DH to do them but they were still there!
I need to pop to shops today to get a few bits like big black pants, but the thought of walking around town with swollen feet isn't very exciting at the minute.

MrsBri · 03/05/2013 09:26

Cycle, don't beat yourself up. You're doing what's best for baby, so just focus on that. Birth plans are only ideals after all, I imagine very few people actually get to stick to them. It's all worth it to have your baby :-)

Nobody has ever mentioned my baby's size to me. Is that odd? I could have a midget, a giant or a standard sized baby but haven't a clue! Hmmm.

Any sign of the ginger ninja pink?

I'm on my last 3 hours at work. Yay!!!!!

Killing time a bit!

Littlemissexpecting · 03/05/2013 09:59

Mrs Bri my mw hasn't mentioned size to me either. I'm not sure whether I'm brave enough to ask next week!
Last working day today before I finish for mat leave......!!!

MrsBri · 03/05/2013 10:17

Yeah, I'm wondering if I should ask!! My appt is a week on Monday.

I will if you will :-)

Last day is a great feeling, isn't it? If rather real!!

Steffanoid · 03/05/2013 10:22

have you had your fundal measurements or growth scans done ladies? on my fundal chart in my notes if I follow the point to the right it gives a current est weight, im really nosy and look at my charts after I come out of appt

Sunbeam18 · 03/05/2013 10:29

Lucky girls finishing work today! One more week for me.
Cycle, totally understand how you must be feeling. If it helps, my good friend had her baby 7 weeks early in 2002 and she was still at work, had done no antenatal classes and had no baby stuff. They got through it all fine, bought the necessary stuff after she was born and they now have a beautiful 11-year old girl!

Maybe the midwife only monitors baby size if it seems big/small or the pregnancy is high risk? I get extra scans due to my age and they are growth scans to check placenta is functioning ok and baby thriving! In reality he is big so this isn't an issue! Think midwife can tell a bit by palpating your tummy but it's a very inexact science!

MrsBri · 03/05/2013 10:34

Steff, yes to fundal height (2 weeks ahead) but no to growth scan (only get if 3 weeks ahead / behind). But my book doesn't give estimated weight as I always study it when I get out of the appt!

Sunbeam, that would make sense re monitoring. I may enquire though!

Littlemissexpecting · 03/05/2013 10:47

I'm the same as she measures fundal height but I can't see any marks on the chart.
Only referred if +/-3. So far baby has measured exact or plus 1 but that doesn't really give me an idea of weight.
The fundal height isn't an exact science as depends on babies position.

SunnyL · 03/05/2013 11:01

Ooh the scientist in me just got interested in your chats about weights. There is no conversion graph in my notes that lets me guess baby weight so I've found one online here www.gestation.net/Views/Registration/RegistrationSuccessfullView.aspx
You have to register and they send you the weblink. According to my fundal measurements I've got a 6lber in me right now. With 5 weeks to go I don't think there is much chance of me sneezing this baby out anymore.

MrsBri · 03/05/2013 11:03

I've been told it is actually easier to give birth to slightly larger babies as they have a bit of oomph behind them. And I'm clinging to this thought!

learnermummy · 03/05/2013 11:24

My 9 pound 7 second was much easier than 7 pound first, but then first was back to back.

Big hugs cycle, they'll take good care of you x

Steffanoid · 03/05/2013 11:44

my growth chart has got that at 34 weeks on the 90%ile its 3250 grams, on the 50th it's 2500g and for the 10th it's just under 2250g hth ladies :-)
thats based on fundal height too, so 90th is 34.5cm, 50th is 33 and 10th is31.5

RueDeWakening · 03/05/2013 11:51

Cycle I'm in S London, I'm listening out for you :o If I was you I'd ask to speak to one of the midwives and discuss your (realistic) birth plan while you're in. They should be able to give you a good idea of what you can/can't expect, surely?

I'm having growth scans every 2 weeks due to T1 diabetes, have had 4 so far, next one on Tuesday. Current estimated weight is about 7lbs with 2 weeks to go... I had my first fundal height measurement this week, entirely because there was a student MW doing the appt under supervision and she did it. Measuring 37-38cms at 35 weeks Shock but expecting a big one anyway, so no real surprises there.

pinkbear82 · 03/05/2013 12:46

I'm scared to look at ny notes and see about weights - with the kicks I'm getting I'm slightly worried I have a giraffe in there! certainly my right side must be an interesting colour on the inside!

still no ginger ninja :( have to say I don't feel negative that something awful has happened. I think he's been a nosey bugger and got shut in a shed and hopefully will stroll in when released.
I may however be trying my hardest to only focus on positives at the moment Wink

DontmindifIdo · 03/05/2013 13:15

Cycle - one of my friends is a midwife, she's always said, the more detailed the birth plan, the more she knows it's going to be a hard day with a one that goes wrong - so relax, focus on getting the baby out in whichever way is safest for the baby.

I saw my midwife this morning, she was lovely, although there was a student and I was used for practice, bloody hell she had cold hands! Surely they should be told to wrap them round a cup of tea before sticking their freezing paws on your belly!!!

However, I'm back to measuring right for my dates, so not a big baby - thank goodness! I guess "contents of bump" (love that phrase!) was just having a bit of a grow spurt last time round.

MrsBri · 03/05/2013 13:26

Pink, Baby B is nicknamed Mini Ninja due to the kicks and moves I'm subjected to, and I can feel quite sore too. I also think I'm black and blue internally!

I've now finished work. Eek! And it just feels bizarrely real now. Maybe I should do my birth plan now. Though my

MrsBri · 03/05/2013 13:27

Oops...bit premature!

My plan is to have baby exit one way or another. With some or lots of pain relief, depending on how it goes! I have no hard or fast ideas, just out as quickly and safely as possible!

Steffanoid · 03/05/2013 13:34

anyone know how swollen is too swollen when it comes to hands? have had to take my engagement ring off and my ring off my other hand too, my fingers are looking like fat little sausages, mywrists are swollen too, but not my ankles or anything like that.... Hmm

learnermummy · 03/05/2013 13:39

Might be worth a check with midwives steffanoid.

Am grumpy here as just had to pay a fortune to return my jojomaman order. Won't be ordering anything without free returns again!

Sarah2506 · 03/05/2013 13:40

My friend who is a midwife says she has no problems with birth plans, unless they are laminated. If laminated she knows there is going to be a problem!

Sparked by my NCT leader I went to hospital yesterday full of ideas about how to make the section more personal. I was pretty much told it?s the surgeons theatre and I should give it up. Though they did say I could have my own music if I brought something to play it on?! Yes because a CD player will fit a treat in my hospital bag.

First work baby born today. Her waters broke last week. She wouldn?t be induced as she monitoring suggested her and the baby were fine so she refused until 2 days ago. Finally induced and section this morning. This has shut me up moaning about my situation a bit!

One more week of work for me. Definitely dreading it, no idea how I will kill the time. I am mainly writing end of year reports at the moment, for people who can?t be bothered, which makes me even less enthusiastic myself.

SunnyL · 03/05/2013 13:53

Ah jealous monster here Envy at you all finishing work. I've got 2 weeks left. Mind you I've not exactly been particularly motivated today.

Had the big chat with my boss this morning about how much travel I might fancy doing when I get back to work. They were asking me if I fancied travelling with bubs when I get back. I've said yes so long as they pay my costs. DH is going to be proper pi$$ed if I take bubs off to Kenya with me and he's stuck at home working. I've said yes to travelling most places in Africa so long as we can sort me out a 'lady' when I get there to do all the childcare during working hours. Other colleagues have done it and reckon its pretty do'able. I'm happy as I've had such itchy feet since I've been banned from longhaul flights.

Sarah2506 · 03/05/2013 14:17

Sunny I so want your job. Do you have a London office? My parents travelled a lot with us when we were tiny. They did say that there were issues with things like time differences ? us wanting to play in the middle of the night, and injections etc ? not entirely ideal to give a baby malaria prophylaxis. And just general heat & humidity making us grumpy, as well as the need to constantly apply sun cream and mossie repellent! Can totally be done though!
