Welcome back all June-ers, just realised we were about to run out of space on the old thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Steffanoid · 30/04/2013 22:16

got the most delightful thing of my pregnancy - giant pads for under the sheet, I got freaked out my waters were going to break when I was asleep and destroy my matters, think dp had a touch of baby brain as he asked about the duvet untill I reminded that gravity may help on that one plus the fact they can be cleaned, bag for labour is all packed now, coming home clothes I was thinking leggings, I've some full length ones that come almost to my boobs and then a dress or long top, I dont think id care if I came home in pjs to be honest

redwellybluewelly · 30/04/2013 22:21

Ok. Of those having ELCS have you been offered the option of spinal or epidural and have you been informed of the week long set of injections which you have to give yourself?

Because I am freaking out now having been given a little booklet on CS and what to prepare for. In fact if running away were an option I'd be gone like a shot, even DH started to go a bit green.

cycle hope that baby stays put and waters stop leaking and yes I'm finishing at almost 38weeks on the 24th May. And I don't know how I'm going to do it to be honest.

Olimoss · 30/04/2013 22:30

Red - I thnk it's a spinal for me but nothing bout injections.

Hate injections.

cyclecamper · 30/04/2013 23:41

redwelly they said once the waters start to go, they are going to keep going, although they will replenish a bit. The Midwife said that I will be here for 2 days to watch for proper labour and then send me home if it hasn't started and bring me back at 34 weeks (friday!) or so to have the baby then. She didn't mention what means they will use to extract it, but I think the consultant may have an opinion when I see him tomorrow.
The period-like cramps have really calmed down with sitting around all afternoon Smile.

AlohaMama · 01/05/2013 00:37

gosh cycle, does that mean you're having a baby by the end of the week? good luck tomorrow with the consultant and hope little one hangs in there for as long as possible, though if the waters have started to go, do they have the same worry of infection in terms of not letting you wait too long?

OP posts:
cyclecamper · 01/05/2013 03:35

Yes, I'm on antibiotics to prevent infection and steroids to help the baby's lungs mature. Seems likely to be here by the end of next week anyway. I'm slightly panicking now!

Knomski · 01/05/2013 06:45

Hi cycle, just wanted to empathise with you as I'm currently in my 5th on antenatal ward with threatened pre term labour after a minor RTA started contractions off! I've also had steroids and was on meds to stop labour which they have now stopped in the hope that my body will keep baby in on its own now:/. My ds2 was born at 35 weeks after waters breaking at 31 weeks so your little will do well at 34 weeks, just try and get as much info from docs as pos to pit your mind at ease, but I hope both our babes stay in there for as long as possible, good luck!:)

Mawgatron · 01/05/2013 07:00

Ahh, don't panic cycle, it will be fine. Better that you are in hosp where they can l

Mawgatron · 01/05/2013 07:05

Ook after you (posted too soon). And pink, 3 months will fly by. Just think how quickly the last 8 have gone!

Spoke to work yesterday about finishing a week earlier than originally planned. Thought it would be better than just being signed off at the last minute and they agreed. Thank goodness they have been really supportive of me all the way through.

Another struggler here. SPd is doing my head in and heartburn is back and it clearly means business. Oh and been having more filthy dreams, but at least they are about dh now rather than dodgy politicians...

RueDeWakening · 01/05/2013 07:19

Red I've never heard of having to inject yourself for a week with elcs, does it say why? I'm having a spinal, got my pre-op assessment for it on Friday next week (!).

And I'm meant to be having steroids soon too, but the hospital want to admit me to give them and I want to stay at home as long as possible.

Cycle - hope all is going well, and LO stats put a bit longer! You might well be first to go at this rate Grin

Steffanoid · 01/05/2013 07:55

good luck cycle! does this mean we have to admit to ourselves that we're going to have to give birth to and subsequently be in charge of tiny humans?

Sunbeam18 · 01/05/2013 08:31

This is all getting a bit real - am I actually going to have a BABY? Holy crap!!!

MrsBri · 01/05/2013 08:52

Ladies, for most of us it will be next month that we meet our babies!! Shitting myself. A lot!

Hope everyone who was wonky yesterday is feeling better today.

What is it about the bath that makes baby play? Particularly as it isn't like, for me, the water can get deep enough to submerge my bump! Had a much longer than planned bath last night where we spent ages watching Baby B playing and I was chatting away to him about all sorts :-)

He's still roaming round today. Most amusing!

cyclecamper · 01/05/2013 08:53

That is rather my thoughts! Especially being in a ward with 2 ladies having contractions all night, one of whom was really not coping. Mind you, she wasn't listening to the midwife either Confused.

Everything is much calmer with me now - less discharge, fewer pains. In some ways, it would be best if the sneaky baby just got on with it so I don't have to keep coming and going and end up with an EMCS. I reckon, I should be able to expel an under 5lb baby pretty easily! Although getting to that stage from a nearly standing start might be nasty.

DontmindifIdo · 01/05/2013 09:07

Red - I'm a bit freaked out about needles (yes yes, I know an epidural is a fuck off huge needle in my back, but won't have to see that and I will pretend it's not happening) - far less scared by the idea of someone cutting my bump open than the injections. [big wuss]

Cycle - I have friends who've had their DCs earlier than 34 weeks and they have been fine as long as the doctors were able to give htem to drugs to hurry along the lung development etc.

Pinkbear - do'nt be too hard on your MIL, it could well be she feels her DS has let you down and is trying desparately to make it up to you, this is her being annoyed at him for not being there when you need him, rather than thinking you can't cope IYSWIM. It might be helpful to give her some useful jobs to do - could she be given unannoying jobs like batch cooking things for your freezer?

SunnyL · 01/05/2013 09:20

DH just made the best reference to future baby that I have ever heard. His e-mail was

'Do you want to go on holiday to x next year. I'm sure we can palm off 'contents of bump' on my parents for a couple of days'.

'Contents of bump' - flipping brilliant. Its becoming my new phrase.

learnermummy · 01/05/2013 09:36

Blimey cycle, good luck. Keep your feet up and have a nice Brew.

cyclecamper · 01/05/2013 09:51

Ooh, lovely, thanks learner Smile

Thank you everyone. I'll be a bit more relaxed when I have some idea of plans, I think. If I can talk to the consultant this afternoon, it may become clearer. My Husband wants it to arrive today so that it's a Mayday baby! I like the idea, but I don't think it will comply!

Thank you everyone for the kind wishes. I'm largely being ignored by the staff as I'm not screaming or setting alarms off with baby's heart rate dropping.

Citybaby · 01/05/2013 10:44

Hello all,
I hope everyone's feeling ok today, the sunshine always helps!
Cycle-hope they are not ignoring you too much?! Although I guess it means they are not too worried about you which is good.
SunnyL-I love 'contents of bump'! May have to borrow that one!

It is so exciting/scary that we are going to have our babies soon, I can't imagine it!
It's my first day of maternity leave today, can't believe it is finally here, my commute of an hour and a half each way is over so I can hang up my 'baby on board' badge and sign up to Netflix, the washing can wait till day 2. Smile

cyclecamper · 01/05/2013 12:03

The consultant came round and said that once the waters go, labour usually starts spontaneously within 7 days and if not they will induce me. He also recommended staying for the duration (obviously expecting me to demand to go home). He looked quite startled when I said 'yay, no more laundry!' I thought he should try sharing a bathroom/loo with four others when 7 and a half months pregnant and one of the others can spend over an hour in the shower to make a point! It's nice and peaceful here and the chair is more comfortable than my sofa! And I don't need to cook dinner! (As you can see, I'm in denial about the fact that I'm going to be in labour in the next week and looking at the positives Wink!)

pinkapples · 01/05/2013 12:09

Wow cycle that's so exiting Grin and woohoo for no more cookin hehe

Baby apples is mega moving today I don't normally feel her in the day but my god is she making up for it today rolls under my boobs and jabs here there and everywhere cannot concentrate at all!

Sunbeam18 · 01/05/2013 12:23

That's exciting, cycle! Looks like you are going to be the first of us to go (apart from the multiple birth!). Are you 33 weeks?

cyclecamper · 01/05/2013 12:36

I'll be 34 weeks on Friday. It's a bit of a shock - I was fully expecting to be one of those induced at 42 weeks Grin.

learnermummy · 01/05/2013 12:57

Oh gosh cycle, good luck. Glad you're comfy and hope the food isn't too terrible!

Steffanoid · 01/05/2013 13:08

this really is becoming a bit real now, im tempted to take the dog and bury ourselves under the duvet and hope the cramps im feeling all over my tummy are nothing, hiding will make it go away right?
enjoy the relaxing cycle
