We've managed to fill yet another thread, so here is a new one to keep chatting away on...

And the stats list is here

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
VinegarDrinker · 22/05/2013 10:23

Hah, dinky, you never know you might be doing it with a newborn in a buggy/sling instead.

I've definitely hit the "last few weeks" feeling today, not helped by missus continually sticking her foot in my ribs making it impossible to get comfy.

Had a better night but I think the cumulative sleep disruption is catching up with me, I feel almost first trimester exhausted today. Am off work and would be quite tempted to have a PJs and TV day with DS but I've volunteered to help with a nursery trip to the park so need to drag us both out in a minute. currently hiding eating a mini twister lolly while he watches his Very Hungry Caterpillar video (yes, video, we are retro!).

34+1 today, 5 days left at work!

Abzs · 22/05/2013 10:24

I think we need a baby bath. At least we do until I figure out what to do with CatB's litter tray that lives in the bath. I don't think I can be doing with cleaning the bath every time I want to clean the baby. Both of our bathroom sinks have silly big mixer taps that would get in the way.

Think Small has now learned star jumps in addition to somersaults.

TotallyEggFlipped · 22/05/2013 10:27

Smile in exactly one month I will have finished work.

Cheeseandbread · 22/05/2013 11:05

Dinky yes you made me smile too. Smile

I'm off work today as poorly and full of cold. Still in bed.

Bean had her first stint of really long hiccups today- maybe I only thought it was the first because I was lying down and not rushing around? It went on for about 15 mins... Very strange.

It has been nice this morning feeling her move even if I do feel rotten. I normally only notice her moving when I wake in the morning and rest in the evening with only occasional movement in the day. I am so looking forward to mat leave in a few weeks.

Has anyone heard from Shiv? She, her DH and Oliver are always in my thoughts.

I'm enjoying hearing about what people have/are planning to wear for labour. I would ideally like a water birth and have bought a cheap red bikini to wear I thought the colour choice would be good incase of blood in the pool I know the bottoms will come off but thought the top would be good for skin to skin rather than a tankini... Any thoughts? Realistically I will probably end up naked... Any advice on nice nightwear that allows breast feeding after labour?

Parent craft on Saturday was fun- DH had a bit too much fun with a knitted boob...

I hope everyone is having a good day.

dinkystinky · 22/05/2013 11:43

Shiv posted on FB Cheese - Oliver has 4 days left of his 10 day course of steroids - fingers crossed they will do the trick for him. Still on ventilator - has clothes now - upping BM consumption but keeps knocking his feeding tube out.

DS1 had hiccups all the time in utero - and when he came out too. So so so cute. To be honest, I just wore a bra and then took it off in labour when got in the pool - not much difference between that and a bikini top.

Anything with buttons is good for bfing- I wore an old huge mans shirt for the first few days as made it easy access to the boob.

Glad DH enjoyed the knitted boob - Fathers day is the 16th of June apparently. Perhaps Bean can get one for him as a pressie? Grin Hope you feel better soon - lots of rest, vitamin c and fluids prescribed (along with choc hobnobs) x

Cheeseandbread · 22/05/2013 13:20

Dinky thanks for the update on Shiv. I'm glad little Oliver is hopefully getting stronger.

Thanks also for the tips on shirts- DH has a couple of nice brushed cotton ones that I would mind borrowing. I like the idea about Father's Day and giving him a knitted boob... Made me laugh... Now I just have to find one in the shops as I don't think I have the skills to knit one...

I hope your DS has settled a bit now... Not long until half term- have you got any time off pre baby to spend with your boys?

dinkystinky · 22/05/2013 15:00

Am actually off next week Cheese - few day in Dorset followed by a couple of days at legoland. Poor dh has been working like a loon recently so have just booked him a massage in Dorset and a pregnancy massage for me too - can't wait!

Re knitted boobs - pretty sure you can find them online (you can find anything online!)

IcingTheCake · 22/05/2013 15:11

Ooh im going on holiday to new milton, its on the border of dorset! Enjoy your massage! Im going to finally go swimming! So excited!

shelley72 · 22/05/2013 17:38

hi wasnt about much yesterday as DC2s birthday. unfortunately the 'terrible twos' didnt end at the stroke of midnight Smile. i did have a day of not doing too much so that was nice. back to the chaos today though!

i cant remember who was asking (mrs ross?) but i dont think i get any extra appointments now. i hope that i may get someone nearer due date that can confirm the position of the baby as that will make the VBAC v CS decision easier. i was quite shocked that this baby was on 5th centile as i was sure that it was much bigger than DC1 and 2 who were 9th and 2nd centile. luckily we still have lots of tiny baby clothes and have been out today and bought a pack of 'micro' nappies just in case. lots of bargains to be had in the shops today, sainsburys have 25% off baby clothes until monday and boots have a baby event on too which seems to include nappies, baby essentials and clothes.

fingers crossed for little oliver, we're also away for half term with no internet Shock so will have lots to catch up on when i get back.

Abzs · 22/05/2013 18:22

Well, I seem to have baby brain this afternoon. Went to find an anniversary present for DH and picked a nice insulated stainless steel cafetiere mug that he can use in the office. Except, he is working offshore shifts just now so not in an office and AND when I got home I spotted almost the exact same item sitting on the side. Same thing, same brand, but plastic not metal Blush

dinkystinky · 22/05/2013 19:20

Have lovely holidays Icing and Shelley.

Abzs - hope you kept the receipt!

MrsRoss26 · 22/05/2013 20:07

One more update from Shiv today: she finally got skin to skin contact today and posted a couple of beautiful pictures Smile

MarieKL · 22/05/2013 21:43

So pleased to hear Shiv was able to have skin to skin contact, thanks for the update MrsRoss.

Abzs thank you for sharing your baby brain story. Baby brain definitely taking over here as well so sorry if I've missed key parts of the thread. Came off the phone at work yesterday to find my colleague in stitches as I'd introduced myself and got my surname entirely wrong Blush

Vingear I hope the trip went well and you manage to catch up soon. We had to chase a seagull out of my DS's window again the other night! Dinky I like the sound of that book, will definitely have a look for it.

Shelly I'm glad everything is okay. Sounds like Monday was quite a day.

Dinky you made me smile too. You'll have to let is know where you come in the race Smile

Cheese sorry to hear you're feeling rotten. Your parent craft class sounds fun.

On baby baths I strongly recommend using a new washing up bowl rather than folding out for and having to find room for a baby bath.

Hope you all have a good nights sleep!

Thinkingof4 · 22/05/2013 22:41

cheese my little one had their first prolonged hiccups last night!! Isn't that strange

shelley hope the birthday was fun, ds3 is 2 next week but has been on terrible twos for quite a few months now!

dinky I'll be about 38 weeks at sports day so don't think I'll be taking part either

Lovely to hear shiv has had some skin to skin with Oliver

slouching keep going, nearly there!

vinegar I'm counting the days now too! Just 4 more working days now till I finish thank goodness

abzs and Marie loving the baby brain stories!! I'm sure I could think some up too!

Anyway knackered as ever and well pasty bedtime so goodnight all, sleep well

photographerlady · 23/05/2013 11:23

someone please revoke my ebay account. I keep buying clothes for 0-3, 3-6 and 6-12 months.

mysterymeg · 23/05/2013 13:21

Hello ladies. I was on this thread near the beginning but fell off somewhere along the way what with work etc. Have now been signed off so am at a loose end so thought I would come and pester rejoin you all.

I've tried to have a quick update (you've all written so much!) and have seen that we already have our first thread baby. Congratulations shiv! From what I've read although Oliver hasn't had the easiest start he's a little fighter and I'm pleased you've had your skin to skin finally Smile

Hope you all don't mind me butting back in like this!

TotallyEggFlipped · 23/05/2013 14:01

Welcome back, mysterymeg!

dinkystinky · 23/05/2013 14:14

Welcome back MysteryMeg - hope everything is ok with you and your baby (being signed off doesnt sound good - hope its so you can just chill out for abit). Some of the original MN posters have also set up a private FB group - if you want to join PM Amadablam, Totally, Photographer or Icing (know there are more but cant remember who) and they can send you an invite.

Marie - dont blame your DS in being afraid of seagulls - they're horrible birds. I have a fear of birds any bigger than a robin (dont ask why) so that would be my idea of a night mare too.

mysterymeg · 23/05/2013 18:15

Thanks ladies. dinky I'm ok - my body just really isn't enjoying the last trimester. Not that surprising as I've only got the one kidney. Just need to take things easy for a bit. Bump is fine - it's just me suffering!

Will send a pm re facebook now thanks.

princessllama · 23/05/2013 21:11

Welcome back mystery meg. Glad you have finished work and are having a rest.
I haven't packed hospital bag at all-we never seem to have a spare suitcase and I also feel I'll jinx it if pack as ds and dd were 2 weeks and 3 weeks overdue!
Can't remember who's dh said they looked like a slug getting off sofa but that's exactly how I feel.
So great shiv got to hold Oliver properly, hope the steroids are doing great things.
I get confused btwn FB thread and this one because I can't work out who anyone is on FB. Who is it who has broken waters and is waiting it out in hospital? And is she ok?
I have had a bit of a shocker this week, I shut ds's finger in car boot and ended up spending hours in a and e with him. I have also found out our new nanny who was starting in 3 weeks has decided actually she would rather work at London zoo. What with pg hormones, when the message came through at breakfast I howled like a baby. Poor dcs were a bit traumatised.
Dh has made me promise not to take on any new patients, at moment can't see when I can stop working as need to fix the patients have just taken on which could take next 4-5 weeks...
Right, after the whingerama am off to fall asleep, probably in bath.

Cheeseandbread · 23/05/2013 21:39

Princess I am the slug Grin

Ooooooooh who's waters have broken?- I'm not on fb group so only know mumsnet names...

Liking the baby brain stories Abs and Marie

So glad Shiv got skin to skin contact. Thanks for the update Mrs Ross

Thinking I'm having my second bout of hiccups now...

Back at school today and feeling much better than I was. Just thoroughly exhausted. Jealous of those on hols next week Envy I like the sound of your massages Dinky

31+5

dinkystinky · 23/05/2013 21:41

Aah princess llama - sending you big hugs. Sounds like you've had a tough week - hope Ds is OK and am sure you'll find a great new nanny. It sounds like her heart wasn't really in it so she would probably have let you down at some point if she did take the job. Its Emblosion whose waters broke - she's home under instructions to go in if any issue and due to be induced on Tuesday I thinking labour hasn't started by then.

dinkystinky · 23/05/2013 21:46

Ugh last line meant so I think if labour hasn't kicked in by then

Cheese - definitely recommend pregnancy massages, esp towards the end - its utter bliss for your hard working body.

MarieKL · 23/05/2013 22:13

MysteryMeg lovely to have you back on the thread, though sorry to hear you're suffering.

Cheese it's good you're feeling better. Will you get a rest at half term?

Princess sending you big hugs as well.

Dinky Pregnancy massage sounds great. I'm not too fond of birds either but mainly because the sparrows in our hedge wake me up up 5am and the Seagulls keep making my car dirty! Not that its that clean anyway but thats not the point! Quite like owls though having had a soft toy one as my comforter when I was young!

I'm not on FB either so Thanks for letting us know about Emblosion. I imagine it's going to be a very long bank holiday weekend just waiting. will be thinking off her.

Love hearing about the bumps with hiccups. Neither DS nor current bump have ever had them so quite jealous of those who do. Would love to feel that sensation. Must be so strange.

Now need to attempt to get off the sofa and go to bed. Slugs sound quite elegant to me. I'm more like a combination between a hippo and a sloth Smile

Cheeseandbread · 24/05/2013 03:26

Marie love the hippo sloth combo! I've been a bit lazy with some of my outfits to school lately and have described one as a 'posh sloth' outfit... Which, for those that are interested, consists of trackie bottoms, white top, body warmer and nice new posh scarf (a recent pressie to myself). This is my outfit for when I teach P.E. not that I actually do much running around these days and instead of only wearing it for the session it becomes my outfit for the whole day I will be wearing this rather stylish combo today as I teach swimming. I won't get much rest over half term as I've got reports to write and SATs papers to mark... I think I'll give myself the bank holiday though as DH has this off too and he will moan if I work...

Still tend to wake up in the night most nights... Anyone else awake...?

Dinky thanks for letting us know about Embolism if your reading Embolism GOOD LUCK! Flowers
