We've managed to fill yet another thread, so here is a new one to keep chatting away on...

And the stats list is here

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Also silver birdie I'm not sure any allowances are made for the fact some bumps protrude out more than others - I've been measuring bang on for dates but then I have a really sticky out bump(think smuggling space hoppers down your top and you get the idea) - people I know in real life who have measured big for dates whose bumps were much neater (and fwiw their babies were not enormous when born).

Re sharks under the bed - we've had that phase so you have my sympathy. We have a bed time ritual now of pulling bad dreams out their ears and chucking out the window and putting in good dreams and thoughts instead which seems to have helped. Alsdo there's a good nook called Under The Bed - all about how the imaginary monsters under the bed are scared of the kid in the bed - my two love it!

dinkystinky · 19/05/2013 07:31

Hmm apologies for typos in last post - Also and book were the words you need to help it make sense!

SilverBirdie · 19/05/2013 09:23

Thanks dinky both are fab ideas and I'll look for the book. Dh spent a third night sleeping on the floor with Ds but tomorrow we go to Centre Parcs and on our return he'll have a new, single bed with new bedding etc so hoping all this might make him forget the imaginary sharks. Could also do the opposite though given all the changes Hmm
I measured weeks over with Ds and had an enormous space hopper style bump and he was big, long and huge head. I honestly don't know how my body does it.... I'm pretty slim really. She will come one way or another though

Ok..... So sorry for being dim but where do I find the top of my uterus for DIY measuring?? Confused

Anyone want a laugh?? How's this for desperate measures? Last night my hips were so, so painful I just couldn't find the energy to shift myself and as there were scissors on my bedside table...... I cut my knickers off!! Wtf?!?! Grin and Blush

Runswithsquirrels · 19/05/2013 10:31

Silver that is hilarious, but I bet it felt better than moving!

MrsRoss26 · 19/05/2013 13:56

Thanks for that laugh out loud silver. At this stage it sounds quite reasonable to me. When did the time start flying by and how can we slow it down without prolonging the pains?

It's a weekend of diy and tip runs in my house, which left me in horrible pain last night. Baby seems to think reflux is a suitable punishment today. Good to hear it isn't just me crunching on ice and lollies now Grin

Thinkingof4 · 19/05/2013 16:06

Grin silver

ellie I hope you get things sorted out, sounds like you have a lot going on

totally yikes! Moving house- when do you actually move? Good luck with that

vinegar new bike sounds fab, you must be really fit!

Been a few days since I posted and struggling to remember all the other things I was going to reply to!
Just back from hen weekend, one of my oldest friends gets married in 2 weeks, so a lovely girly catch up kind of weekend. Rushed home to see the boys.....and they are all out! So catching up on washing and mumsnet instead

SundaySunshine · 19/05/2013 16:18

Grin that's hilarious silver . My hips have been really painful at night of late too, but if I try to move into a different position I get awful acid reflux almost immediately.

Thanks for putting the link to Shiv's thread on here; after reading that it put all my little aches and pains into perspective. What a brave brave lady Shiv is.

So I've nearly finished my hospital bag (I thought I'd finished already but I keep remembering stuff I'd forgotten), but I'm a bit stuck on what to wear during labour. I'm hoping to try a water birth, so will be packing a tankini top, but just in case that doesn't work out I'm trying to think of a good alternative. I want skin to skin after birth, so perhaps something with buttons? What's everyone else planning on wearing?

dinkystinky · 19/05/2013 18:29

Ingenious use of scissors there Silver birdie! Ds1 was a 9lber, DS2 at 2 weeks early 8 lb 6 oz - some people just grow chunky babies - and I'm normally fairly slim and do plenty of exercise so no real extra calories being channelled to the baby. But you're right - they will come out one easy or another. Have a lovely time at Centre Parcs and hope DS takes well to his new bed.

Sunday - I was naked or in bra for most of labour with ds2 as clothes just irritated me - with ds1 I wrote an old huge T-shirt I was happy to cut down the front for skin to skin. As it happened never got to do that as he was whisked off pretty much immediately but I had packed scissors to do the cutting (dhs job). This time round it'll be tank top or naked I guess.

TotallyEggFlipped · 19/05/2013 19:21

I can't remember what I was wearing in labour last time. I think I wore a best top and a massive cheap t-shirt, but I'm really not sure. (I feel the cold a lot).

VinegarDrinker · 19/05/2013 19:28

I'm wearing what I wore in labour at the moment, actually! Went into labour during a house party we were having "pre baby" so was wearing a Dotty P tunic type top and leggings. The bottom half was shed pretty quickly as I had LOADS of waters and soaked through all 4 pairs of maternity trousers before getting to hospital, but the tunic top didn't get taken off til.I went to theatre after pushing for 2 hours+ and got changed into a gown.

TotallyEggFlipped · 19/05/2013 19:45

I seem to remember wearing socks too Blush (v stylish, me. No pants but still wearing my socks to keep my feets toastie!)

dinkystinky · 19/05/2013 20:56

Sounds like a quintessentially English birth Totally :-)

esme80 · 19/05/2013 21:25

Totally I was the same, huge tshirt till it got too hot, no pants but kept socks on!

Thinkingof4 · 20/05/2013 12:00

I always end up naked too as clothes are too annoying! I'll pack a big loose t shirt for earlier stages. I'm normally fairly reserved about flashing flesh btw but something primal must come over me in labour Grin

dinkystinky · 20/05/2013 12:08

In my case its just a case of getting too damn hot Thinking - I also think once you've been through birth once its a lot easier to just think stuff your inhibitions and just get on with it however you need to in order to get through it - maybe that's the primal bit.

My nesting is manifesting itself in home improvements - had the gutters cleaned today and am currently making a list of jobs for handyman/builders to sort out next week and will be sorting out photos for photoframes (that have been sitting empty waiting to be put up for around 2 years now Blush) this week too.

Abzs · 20/05/2013 17:33

dinky and Silver thank you. That's what I was thinking. Now I have to think of how to tactfully do something with the larger cot that won't offend the friends who gave it to us.

dinkystinky · 20/05/2013 17:43

Keep it at a grandparents house Abzs?

Abzs · 20/05/2013 18:19

I expect MIL would love that idea dinky as Small is GC1 for them, but they're trying to declutter and move house. My dad has had the compact cot and pram system (both DB2's) in his spare room for six months until I picked them up. He is a clutter collector, but I don't know that he'd want a different one in its place Grin

VinegarDrinker · 20/05/2013 19:02

My 2 year old is currently in the bath eating an ice lolly because I decided I needed one when I got in from work, and so obviously he needed one too.

I blame you lot

shelley72 · 20/05/2013 19:17

hello all, well ive had a day! went to routine 34 wk appointment and ended up spending most of day in day assessment. baby has been a bit quiet all weekend (but ive been v busy) and then MW couldnt find heartbeat easily this morning, that with reduced movement and raised BP was enough for her to send me in. so once i was there, the hospital MW was doing her routine checks before monitoring started and measured me (twice) at 26 weeks Shock - am nearly 34.

cue much panic about growth, so i had to stay in and have a growth scan after the CTG. which also showed that baby is breech! i had been asking the MW for weeks now if it felt as though it was breech as i feel much the same as i did with my other two. i feel emotionally exhausted and it was the last thing i needed today really as i have so much to do this week. still at least i am home now - was getting worried at one point when there was much muttering and registrars being called. oh and if all that wasnt scary enough, three stretch marks have appeared Sad. i was doing so well...

so ive had a nice relaxing bath and i am now going to put my feet up and get ready for tomorrow. hope everyone elses monday has gone slightly better!

MrsMillions · 20/05/2013 20:30

Phew just caught up on posts since Friday after a long weekend with family.

Currently watching Friends, laughed at Ross telling Rachel she was allowed to be unreasonable as she's carrying their baby. DH said I've not been unreasonable which was a big relief as I do know I was rather grumpy and snappy on Saturday night (long day!) and baby brain has got much worse in last few days. Also have a sneaky suspicion I've joined those of you swelling down below but too scared to look. And have definitely got the hip pains overnight, which is requiring me to change sides a lot and that is not an easy manoeuvre!

Cripes shelly that does sound like a rubbish day, poor you. I trust everything was ok in the end?

dinkystinky · 20/05/2013 22:53

Shelley ((hugs)) - that does sound like a rubbish day. On plus side you know the baby is OK - and you are physically OK if emotionally drained - does the baby being breech take the vbac decision out of your hands or are they applying a wait and see approach?

Vinegar - as a kid I used to eat whole mangoes in the bath and my parents used to hose me down afterwards. Love the idea of you doing the same with your ds.

Abzs - my parents decluttered but also got a big cot for grandkids at thge same time - never underestimate a doting grandparent!

shelley72 · 21/05/2013 06:53

Managed to get a few hours sleep last night, glad dh is home today though. Just lots going round in my mind. Yes everything did check out ok, but baby measuring just over 5th centile for HC, AC and FL. Amniotic fluid still ok, but not lots there but cord functioning fine and baby is happy.

Dinky I have to wait and see, it's a complete breech so still time to turn, but yes the decision will be made for me - I won't be vbacing with breech baby. How my midwife could miss a breech presentation and measure me 7 weeks out I'm not sure. I guess it's all subjective and I know that there are variations in measuring between midwives.

So hopefully a calmer day in store today. Hope everyone's doing ok. Any more random purchases from your mil Mrs millions?!

BB01 · 21/05/2013 07:38

Am bit behind so sorry if I have missed anything big but Shelley hope you're ok. Sounds like a stressful day especially after a routine appointment. Hope all goes as smoothly as it can from now on.

Vinegar your ice lolly story made me laugh!!
