We've managed to fill yet another thread, so here is a new one to keep chatting away on...

And the stats list is here

Thinkingof4 the penny has just dropped about who you are on DNUK. Assuming there aren't two of you with the same number of kids and EDD!

Thinkingof4 · 30/04/2013 18:38

Hehe no must be me vinegar but I haven't worked out who you are, assuming you are on that thread

dinky I find decisions like that really difficult at the best of times never mind when pregnant. I kind of think if a child is happy at primary (certainly in early years) then that's most important thing. My ds1 is way ahead of his peers with reading and writing but he's getting progressed much more quickly and extra homework to match his abilities so I'm happy with the school he's at for now. I'm more interested in seeing him make friends and develop in confidence but it is really hard to know what is for the best.

liz great to hear about dh new job!

totally glad your scan went well

Has anyone else been reading thread about delayed cord clamping? It's really interesting and not something I'd ever really given much thought to. All my boys have had mild jaundice but never needed to go under the lights. Although from what I can make out being pregnant with no3,4 etc puts you at higher risk of PPH, is that right? I've only ever had managed 3rd stage and kind of thinking I should just stick with what has worked before, but on the other hand there does seem to be growing evidence of benefit of delayed clamping. Be interesting to hear what everyone else thinks.
Nice sunny spring day here today, and I'm suddenly starting to count the days till I go on mat leave (just over 4 weeks)

31weeks exactly today

VinegarDrinker · 30/04/2013 18:56

Hah, I would've thought my constant wittering on about bikes/cycling would've outed me Thinking ! I need to add my exact EDD but I think we are the only 2 due in July so far on there?

Thinkingof4 · 30/04/2013 19:28

Aaah! Right got you now! Doh! It's funny but in my mind they are such different forums and I never think there is any cross over as mn tends to have a bad name on dnuk. We know better though!

dinkystinky · 30/04/2013 20:33

Thanks Thinking - it is indeed a bloody hard decision to make! Re delayed cord clamping - I had managed 3rd stage with ds1 (midwife gave me a jab and pulled placenta out) - with ds2 I had delayed cord clamping - not cut until placenta birthed about 40 minutes after the birth. Ds2 was generally a more content robust baby than ds1 in the first few weeks- but ds1 inhaled meconium, was stuck in birth canal for ages due to midwife labour mismanagement and was in scbu, so had a v different start to life to ds2 anyway so no idea if it really was beneficial or not.

TotallyEggFlipped · 30/04/2013 20:41

Vinegar the cycling chat is a very quick giveaway!

VinegarDrinker · 30/04/2013 20:46

Aha, found you too Totally

Right, enough with the exclusive secret medic chat!

Re delayed cord clamping, I think largely it is a Good Thing, really it should be becoming widespread and it veeeeery gradually is. The problem as I see it is the practical set up, the babies that could probably benefit most from it are the ones who end up being clamped and cut very swiftly to be passed over to the resuscitaire... And most healthy babies you won't notice a difference either way as they have the reserves to cope fine. Personally I'll be opting for an active third stage this time to get the placenta out asap in view of my PPH last time .

VinegarDrinker · 30/04/2013 20:49

I'm not as cycling obsessed in real life, honest! Got told again today by another Consultant at work that I "shouldn't" be cycling, he couldn't articulate any particular reason why though... Hmm

TotallyEggFlipped · 30/04/2013 20:53

Probably because the thought of a pregnant woman doing more exercise than you makes people feel really lazy.

SlouchingPanda · 30/04/2013 22:15

I got a stern face from one of my consultants because I am still occasionally cycling at 29 weeks. Another told me I shouldn't be eating leftover pizza for lunch Confused. I have ignored both of them - it was so nice to be out pedaling in the sunshine today except for the uphill bits.

BadMissM · 30/04/2013 22:27

Naughty Bump scared me yesterday by being so quiet he frightened me to death. Even at the ante-natal class. It was only when we'd got to the hospital, panicking and the midwife put the monitor band on...he kicked it off. Typical.

PhieEl06 · 01/05/2013 06:31

Morning all, thinking I've read the article on it but not the thread, it's something I'm going to put on my birth plan I think but like vinegar said its more beneficial to the babies that actually are clamped & cut to be ressusitated, the way I see it is if my baby is healthy & can come to me when born there are no downsides to it. maybe this is just me reading the article in favour of it & no researching properly.

Hope you all have nice days whatever your doing, unfortunately I'm going to work to feel like a spare part all day!! 28+4

cheekbyjowl · 01/05/2013 08:40

better to get it checked though badmiss. What a little rascal.

Yup totally I think youre right vinegar and slouching you should stop exercising as its showing us up! Grin haha. I'm impressed you are, I really should do more.

Does everyone experience bh? What do they feel like? I still don't really know where my uterus is so havent a hope of knowing its contracting! I really need to.take some anatomy lessons.

cheekbyjowl · 01/05/2013 09:01

Ooo just looked at the weather on my phone and it looks like a sunny bank holiday! Horray. Whats everyone doing?

dinkystinky · 01/05/2013 09:39

Glad Bump is ok BadMissM and hope you've recovered from your scare. He was obviously having a good long nap!

Cheek - first time round I didnt experience any braxton hicks until really late on (39 weeks plus) so dont worry about it. It feels abit like your tummy being squeezed from the inside - not painful, just odd.

MrsRoss26 · 01/05/2013 11:05

Slouching that's ridiculous. surely we all know how much is likely to be too much for our own bodies? Good on you for the cycling, I wish I could be bothered to drag mine out of the shed! Smile

Cheek I'm pretty sure I've only had 1 BH so far, and that was brought on by a long(ish) walk. Definitely more uncomfortable than painful, but I expect them to get worse! Grin

Am recently hoovering up food...and making myself worry horribly about weightgain. Must try harder to suppress my sweet tooth. Mostly it's doughnuts. Whoops.

lizincornwall · 01/05/2013 14:31

Thanks for the tip about made to measure mattresses for travel cots. It looks like we can get a proper sprung mattress for about £55, which I think is worth it considering a cotbed+mattress would be about £200. Hopefully DD1 will be ready for a big bed by the time this little monkey needs the cotbed we have at the moment...

Glad us ladies are getting some positive test results back & seeing nice understanding GPs. Always nice to hear the good stuff (but of course this is the place to rant when we need to as well!)

Just checking in. So pleased the sun in shining Shock

27+4

dinkystinky · 01/05/2013 17:26

MrsRoss - you'll get to the stage in late pregnancy where you really don't feel like eating anything and weight gain tails off, if that helps any?

IndecisivePramBuyer81 · 01/05/2013 17:55

what's this dnuk?

I just wanted to pop on and suggest that anyone who is having back problems visit their local chiropractor! saw one on Monday anf feeling SO much better already Grin honestly ladies. ..its such a relief! spread the word to pregnant ladies everywhere!

IndecisivePramBuyer81 · 01/05/2013 17:57

p.s. glad to hear the weight gain should tail off as I haven't been holding back either! loving gummy bears atm Grin

BadMissM · 01/05/2013 18:13

I wish my appetite would tail off! Has been mad the last couple of weeks. That said, because of the GD haven't put on much except on bump!

BB01 · 01/05/2013 18:25

Glad all is OK BadmissM. Good you got it checked tho and you can put your mind at rest now.

Ha yes people were horrified I was still running until 30 weeks but agree some of them probably just feel guilty as they are not PG as and do jack all!!

Anyone else struggling at work? I'm finishing relatively early at 34 weeks so only 3 and half weeks to go but suddenly finding it hard to keep going. Starting to get some nights of insomnia and only manage 2 or 3 hours then feel sick and tired next day. It's not a v physical job but find it mentally and emotionally draining as it's listening to and trying to sort people's problems for most of the day. Considering asking my boss if he can help out more. Unfortunately he doesn't know v much about what I do but he'll be my cover until they recruit maternity cover if they ever do! Eek sorry that wasn't meant to be such a long rant. Know there's people out there with more difficult jobs juggling family life too! Think it didn't help I've had couple of holiday days to use and sitting in the sun reading has made me long for maternity leave to have a break before baby arrives!

cheekbyjowl · 01/05/2013 19:17

bb If you can ask for extra help do. If your boss has been pregnant or had a wife whose had a child they will know that the third trimester is tough. If he/she hasnt i'd explain that to them (as they might not have a clue what it feels like) and ask what support you can get..

sounds obvious but I sometimes forget that I have an app that tells me what to expect ...but I forget others dont. Your boss might not know how to support you so give suggestions... Maybe working from home one day, or not commuting to meetings so often (whatever is relevant to your job)

shelley72 · 01/05/2013 19:32

all this talk of exercise is making me feel very lazy indeed Blush. its never been my thing even when not pregnant but i suppose i should make some effort to do something once the baby is here. maybe pilates, as ive heard thats good for your back?

which leads me to weight gain. ive put on 10kg. i was Shock. i dont remember being so big before but maybe i was. anyway the last few days i cant seem to eat anything without it causing me to drink gallons of gaviscon. i have really gone off food!

shelley72 · 01/05/2013 19:41

Posted too soon. My appetite has gone ( apart from the odd cake) as everything I eat sets it off and I'm left feeling sick - and thirsty from the Gaviscon. Any suggestions as to what I could try. I'm not likely to waste away but starting to get worried comments from family.
