Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BB01 · 29/04/2013 12:14

Abzs hope the bleeding stays away now. Sounds like a horrible day for you but glad it sounds like nothing major.

Photographer wow that would be a big change. I hope you manage to get things sorted out so it suits all of you.

Re emotional films, I'm insisting on comedies/action thrillers only after I cried nearly all the way through My Sister's Keeper last week. I felt properly drained by the end of it and had to watch several Friends episodes to cheer up.

I'm also feeling knackered. I'm ok if I go to bed at about half 8 every night but one late night knocks me for six, as does a busy weekend.

Hope you get more cuddles soon Shiv

TotallyEggFlipped · 29/04/2013 12:14

Slouching that's great! I've managed to escape working nights altogether and luckily my 'on call' days, although they're really frantic, are only an hour longer than a normal day.

Waiting for a growth scan at the moment. Feeling really nervous. Hoping DH is going to be able to make it over for the scan too.

VinegarDrinker · 29/04/2013 12:18

Good luck for the scan Totally and hooray for no more nights and on calls Slouching ! I have really noticed the difference in my energy levels, in how well I am eating etc etc. And that's with a normal HB!

dinkystinky · 29/04/2013 12:20

Good luck for your growth scan Totally - hope your little one performs well for the camera.

Thinkingof4 · 29/04/2013 13:44

photographer wow a move to Iceland would be huge, would certainly make me head spin!

totally good luck with scan

slouching that's good news re nights etc. I have only one more on call day to go thank goodness. It's been pretty mad at work recently with duty dr having to deal with some really scary stuff - patient with pulse of 30 peri-arrest type picture requiring atropine and blue lighted in to A+E Glad it wasn't me on that day, sometimes I wish I worked a bit closer to hospital...

vinegar I'm trying to eat really well too, it's definitely keeping me going, and I'm bang on for weight gain according to online calculator which I think really helps too. Plus no constipation which is a major bonus at this stage of pregnancy!!

dinky I'm going to just wear dungarees with hole in knee rather than patching. It provides a bit extra air flow on hotter days so might be a bonus if it ever gets hot!!

Ok so has anyone else having a problem with shoes not fitting? I've put all my winter boots away at last and dug out pumps etc but a few are feeling really tight! I remember this happening before but can't remember if my feet are likely to go back to their 'old' size or whether I need to buy some new shoes Confused
Oh and in other exciting news I have finally bought something for this baby!!! Some disposable nappies! How dull is that Grin

shelley72 · 29/04/2013 14:47

Goodness photographer, Iceland would be a huge (but fab) move. Hope you feel better soon.
Glad all of you with stressful jobs are getting shift patterns changed. I'm shattered by about 8 most nights and I am one of those lazy sahms the govt so despises - can't imagine how tired I would be if I was still at work.
Had my 31 week appointment today. All fine but was asked again about vbac and again I said I had no clue what to do. Do you think I could leave it to mumsnet to decide Grin?
Also had a worrying letter from public health via nursery about a poss measles case in area advising us to make sure dcs have had both mmr jabs so I need to look into that as dd not yet been called for her second. Something else to worry about! Well off to do school runs. hope you're all feeling better soon!

PhieEl06 · 29/04/2013 15:43

WOW I feel very guilty for neglecting you all! I haven't even began to read through the 8 or so pages I need to catch up on, been having a busy week while boyfriends parents were away on holiday/getting ready to go on holiday.
I have put the request in to move my maternity leave forward a week, which means when I get back off holiday I only have 4 weeks of work left, cannot stand my job no more! Beginning to feel really uncomfortable all of the time, Spocketta keeps shuffling herself right under my ribs, it's making driving rather difficult now. Sorry for my whingey tone, everything is great otherwise.

Hope everyone is doing good! Will read through now to catch up.

Scan was all ok - baby is small, but normal small rather than IUGR small like DD. Having another scan at 34 weeks.

Ended up having to go back to doctors surgery this afternoon or repeat blood test because Hb was 10.5 - thought that was pretty good, but they wanted to recheck & do iron levels.

shelley I find looking after DD more exhausting than even the craziest day on call covering emergencies, so I don't think being a SAHM is an easy option!

photographer - Iceland sounds v exciting. I'm sure you'd settle in well if you decided to give it a go. It's much easier to make new friends in a foreign country with a baby than without.

Abzs · 29/04/2013 19:40

Thanks for good wishes everyone. I think it's all fine now, but I have to have repeat bloods done tomorrow for liver function tests and iron levels. I've been started on ferrous sulphate already.

photographer Iceland sounds both scary and exciting! I'm sure you'd find a social circle, but may be a different one to previously - unless your former colleagues are all having babies too. My DH occasionally mumbles about Stavanger or Houston. I suppose in Stavanger I might have a shot at understanding the locals Grin

dinkystinky · 29/04/2013 20:15

Glad scan was good Totally - hope the bloods come back ok. Shelley - I agree with Totally, being a SAHM is definitely full on 24/7 - you just dont have the commute to veg out on! Good luck for your bloods tomorrow Abzs - hope all goes well.

Phie - have a fab holiday!

Currently having major dilemma and pregnancy hormones are not helping matters at all. DS1 goes to local primary (in special measures, meant to be turning into an academy but the nice supportive sponsor the DofE allocated has just pulled out!) and DS2 goes to nursery there. He has a place in reception for Sept. But we've been offered a place for him at a private school 2 miles away (never thought he'd get a place when we applied)- but no place there for DS1. No idea what we're going to do. I'd feel ok with sending DS2 to the local state primary if the academy thing were all settled - but we've had over a year and a half of uncertainty and teachers leaving, and I rather suspect that's going to carry on for at least another 6/12 months so wonder if its worth sending him to the other school and desperately trying to get DS1 in as soon as we can or if we should just stick it out with the local primary school (which at least is very close so will make life with a baby in tow also easy enough) and see what happens... Aargh, I hate decisions like this!

lizincornwall · 29/04/2013 21:22

Hi ladies, finally found you all on the new thread and have speed-read the last 21 (21!!) pages. Love it.

Dinkystinky - that's a really tough one. Friends who are primary school teachers tell me that primary schools don't matter too much, but secondary schools you want to get a good one. So, if you do decide to go the state route for now, reassure yourself that they are too little for the school to have too much influence if they're bright already (and if they're getting private school places, they must be). However, I'm not at that stage yet, so can understand it's a much bigger deal when you're having to make those decisions. Would putting DS2 in the private school help with secondary school places later?

Thank you to everyone who posts Shiv's updates, and to Shiv for having the time to update us! It was all I wanted to read about when I caught up today, and am over the moon that Oliver keeps getting stronger every day. Will keep you in our thoughts.

Abzs - good to hear about the whooping cough vaccine side effects. Reminds me I need to book mine in! (I work from home - will I get away with having a sick-day?). Hope the bleeding is all over now.

Shelly - your DH's comment about your post-birth big pants made me laugh out loud Grin. Told my DH what he said, and he just nodded & said "yes......". And so pleased the bleeding stopped, must have been scary

VinegarDrinker - I read that pregnancy yoga counts at antenatal classes which work need to give you time off for, so if you want to you might be able to go even in the day?

Notprincess - hope you feel much better soon

Icing - yeay for the 4D scan Smile

Growth scan, bloods and Anti-D all happening next week. DH has got a job!! I get to have maternity leave!! Such a relief Smile.

Latest question: We don't have much cash for this baby as it's all happened sooner than expected. So, we were planning on using the travel cot as their cot (DD1 is still in her cotbed). I've bought the best travel cot mattress Mothercare do, but it still seems thin & v. soft to me. DD1's mattress is nice & firm.
Has anyone else used a travel cot as their LO's main cot? Is it ok for the long-term?

TotallyEggFlipped · 29/04/2013 21:29

Congrats to Mrlizincornwall on the job.

No idea about the travel cot - will a proper cot mattress fit inside it???

CitizenOscar · 29/04/2013 21:34

Liz - could you buy a 2nd mattress and double-up?

DS1 slept in travel cot at my parents' once a week and he was comfortable enough but the mattress definitely seemed thinner than normal cot mattress. BUT probably no thinner than a Moses basket mattress now I come to think of it so probably fine at least at first.

dinkystinky · 29/04/2013 21:57

Yay for MrLiz's new job! Great stuff.

My friend got a proper mattress for use in travel cot - she found a place online that will make them to measure and it wasn't too expensive. May be an idea if you're using it all the time. The other thing we id when the boys were little (but not tiny) with travel cots with thin bases is fold a single duvet under the thin mattress to make it more padded and comfy.

Runswithsquirrels · 30/04/2013 07:07

Dinky I would do what your gut tells you is best. I do think primary schools are important, as a primary school teacher I know the progress chn can make under the right teacher. I loathe academies on principle (it's all about the government trying to save money on funding our wonderful local authority education departments). However, in the first year there tends to be quite a lot of money thrown at them, as with schools in special measures. I would look at who is leading the school - do you trust the head, does s/he have vision and drive? If you do go for the private school, it might be easier to get DS1 in there once DS2 has a place.

AmaDablam · 30/04/2013 07:36

Like Phie I feel I've been a bit neglectful on here now that we have FB and never seem to be able to catch up fully! Hope everyone is OK. Sorry to hear about your scare Abzs, especially as your DH was not around. Glad everything was OK and hope the bleeding was a one-off.

Photographer sounds like you have a lot to think about with a possible foreign move on the cards. We too are talking about relocating in the next year or so, just within the UK though, and that's got me jittery enough.

Interesting reading different people's experiences at work with bosses thinking they should stay longer or go earlier. Yesterday my manager (who doesn't have children) said "I can't believe you're still walking around and completely OK and everything!!" For goodness sake I'm a fit healthy woman who's 28 weeks pregnant, she made it sound like I'd been diagnosed with an incurable and incapacitating illness!

Having said this I am getting more tired each week that goes by so it is quite nice that my manager feels I need to be treated with kid gloves (sometimes - other days she just piles on the work as if nothing has changed). Looking forward to a day of working at home today and also have my 28 week MW appt.

Hai1988 · 30/04/2013 07:48

Morning all,
Glad the growth scan went well tottally
Is good to see everyone isn't doing to bad, sorry cant mention names as on the phone.

Had a bit of a werid afternoon here tho, cud of sworn i was going into prem labour, kept having tightening tum and then lower back ache that later moved almost in my bum ( top of coxex sp?) ifswim and had cramps below my bump at one point as well. But then it all stopped suddenly :/

Anyone have any ideas what this was?

dinkystinky · 30/04/2013 08:33

Thanks Runs - I think primary school is important too and want my kids to enjoy going to school but also think being part of your local community is important. Ds1 has made amazing progress under his wonderful teacher this year - up 3 bands already across the board - but in previous years it was v hit and miss. Aargh decisions, decisions. Might just give up and stow away in photographers luggage to Iceland!

Hai - sounds like it could have been false labour. Were you dehydrated at all? Can make symptoms worse. If it happens again, call MW and get checked out.

IcingTheCake · 30/04/2013 10:09

God sorry for the long time to reply, im on my phone so excuse any spelling mistakes im going to try to reply to everyone, but some of them are from last week so sorry about that haha

hai1988 we knew she was a girl but it was very unsure the first time so nice to have a definite answer :) ive been drinking a lot of tea too! Strange because it gives me indigestion! shelley72 i keep doing that, thinking that i MUST need something then finding a whole bundle somewhere :( haha

indecisive i really hope that the physio is helping, not long left now! Itll fly by :)

abz just read about you dropping half the washing in the litter tray! Bless you i bet that really made your day ;) glad your feeling okay now but your neighbours sound lovely :)

cheeseandbread oh no i hope your works gotten better since those visits! Imagine the whiteboard breaking! What bad luck, poor you

mrsmillions oh i have a friend who keeps buying random things like that! Haha we so far got a soft brush, muslins and a bottle brush.. Ooh yum fruit cake! Wish i had some! Haha

totally glad scan went okay!!

photographer oh wow iceland! Sounds like you and dh have some decisions to make, how excited though! Whatever you decide i hope it all works out for the best!

dinky what a difficult decision! Would you regret it if you turned down the private school

IcingTheCake · 30/04/2013 10:10

Just realised how long that is, sorry guys! Blush

Runswithsquirrels · 30/04/2013 10:30

Re Ofsted: our ICT used to be so bad I had ready made signs already backed with blutac saying "Whiteboard not working" and "laptops that don't work" so it would be clear it wasn't my fault they weren't working! ;)

dinkystinky · 30/04/2013 10:58

Sounds like a wise move Runs!

Had 31 week GP antenatal appointment - Bean was playing hide and seek with the sonic aid, every time the GP found the heartbeat the baby would move! Still, despite ginormobump, am measuring bang on for 31 weeks (which I am on Thursday). Also had whooping cough jab - was fine but arm feeling abit heavy now.

Icing - hopefully if you're living with your mum and dad, they'll help with cooking/feeding you in those first few crazy weeks with a newborn. I know mine would!

IcingTheCake · 30/04/2013 11:18

They will but im the main cook in the house, and im not a big fan of their cooking sometimes! Haha also it tends to fall to my mum when im not doing it and she has enough to do, so it might be good to have a few 'fall back' dinners

dinkystinky · 30/04/2013 11:26

Fair enough - I'd ask them if you could all run down the freezer then in preparation Icing (am sure they'll be only to glad to as they'll enjoy your cooking too in due course).

PhieEl06 · 30/04/2013 12:19

Hope everyone is well!
Liz great to hear about DH's new job, send him my congratulations & wishing him much luck!
