I think that this might have been mentioned before on our message boards but for anyone who wants to know the sex of their baby and has a copy of their 12 week ultrasound picture showing the baby's 'nub' they can tell right now whether they are having a boy or a girl.

My 12 week scan was done privately by a consultant doctor (I had to pay because the NHS hadn't - in fact still hasn't - sent me a scan date and I am now 12+6 so I am not optimistic it is ever going to arrive!) and based on the nub theory he was able to predict what the sex is going to be. He told me a girl and it is totally true when I look on my ultrasound picture you can see my baby's nub pointing flat/down rather than up. Apparently if it is less than 30 degrees to the angle of the spine it is a girl, more than 30 degrees it is a boy.

Of course nothing is certain, so I am not counting on it until I see visual proof at 20 weeks, but it is quite fun to have an indication at this stage anyway! Especially if you are as impatient as me to find out!

This article is good to explain it - www.parentdish.co.uk/2009/06/03/nub-theory-baby-gender-prediction-at-12-weeks/
And the diagram explanation in this thread makes it really clear -

So I've made my decision..... I've booked my ML to start at 38w and I've booked 2 weeks AL before that. Although my boss did point out that I'm only down the corridor if I decide to drop whilst at work!! Blush Um not thanks! Lol
On the down side I found out that I only get full pay for 2 months, half for 13w then stat maternity pay for the rest of the year. (I know this is a lot more than some people get and that I'm lucky but for some reason I thought I it full for 6 months, half for 3 months then stat for 3 months Hmm seriously need to reconsider my finances Hmm we were going to buy a new not brand new, I wish car next week HmmHmmHmm

What exactly is statutory maternity pay?

honey86 · 26/04/2013 20:30

13 weeks today Smile but feeling abit short tempered.

hopefully not long now til my kitchens finally finished. ive lived off ready meals and takeaways for all that time and its taking its toll abit. im so lacking in energy and craving fresh stuff soo bad. Sad really fancy a nice cold, crisp n fresh salad, juicy tomatoes sweet peppers carrot.

Thanks firsttime - my scan was done at just over 10 weeks and the pics are rubbish so I can't even have a go at sexing!

I was told my maternity pay would be 5 months full and 4 months half by a girl who had a baby about 3 years ago. But all the literature I've read says 6 weeks at 90%, 26 weeks at half plus SMP so I'm confused and worried. I'll have to call personnel and ask what it will actually be before its too late for us to save extra

busyprocrastinating · 26/04/2013 22:29

Mmm Firsttime thanks for that it is interesting. Can't really work mine out from the picture but might be looking at a boy.

williaminajetfighter · 26/04/2013 22:41

First time. Where is the nub? Was this on a 3d scan? My pics are of baby on its back, side view and I can barely make out legs let alone nub. Where should I be looking?

williaminajetfighter · 26/04/2013 22:45

Miss tweed. Smp at the moment isabout £137 pw or about £500 per month. Except its 90% salary for first 6 wks then the 137 pw for next 33 wks.

TheSperminator · 27/04/2013 02:51

We had a great scan today. Wee Pebble was awesome. When it first start, there were 3 of 4 hiccups, then Pebble lay great for all the measurements. Looked so clear and obvious. Saw the head, spine hands, feet and a good strong heartbeat. The change since 8 week scan we paid for is incredible.

The only problem was getting blood from DW. She has tiny veins in the arm n hand and they always struggle. But this was ridiculous! Took 3 nurses n a doctor 9 attempts until they finally got it. I think I could've done a better job.

We got 3 decent pictures for free. Just had to make a donation to the tin, if we wanted. I stuck in a tenner. And we're now booked in for 20 week scan.

Announced it to whole family and on Facebook and the reaction has been fantastic. I went out with the boys tonight to celebrate. Tomorrow we're driving from Glasgow to Birmingham to see Beyoncé & starting over. A wee surprise for the wife. I think she deserves it!

Dizzy81 · 27/04/2013 07:31

Morning all,

Yeah for all the positive scan news!

Cravings, mine have been crusty ham rolls with salt and vinegar crisps, batter burg, subway salads, walnut whips. Mini cedars, apples, melon and grapes. My current one is cheese and pickle sandwiches. Oh and custard, Dunkers and blocks of cheese.

My work colleagus have told me I look blooming! Which is rather nice and made me feel relaxed as my symptoms have all but vanished.

Fairydogmother · 27/04/2013 07:40

Morning!

Great news about your scan sperminator!

I've woken up stupidly early for a Saturday and feel great!y my tummy has deflated down a lot for some reason (was v bloated) and I feel properly awake.

Of course now I'm worrying about why I don't feel crap!

YummyMummy17 · 27/04/2013 07:50

Morning!

Great scan news sperminator!!

Fairydogmother - 4D sounds fantastic in 4weeks I'm going for a private sexing scan and in 6 I have my 20week scan Smile I had 5/6 scans with DS due to him measuring small etc, I love them!! Very impatient!

Bought our steriliser last night! Tommee Tippee. I had this with previous preg too and found no problems with it! Loved it Infact!! But MIL last night text to ask what we bought and she said that we should have got avent steriliser as that's the best.... It's been a few years since she was out buying these so didn't appreciate it lol what has everyone else bought/ planning to buy?Smile

Thanks
KirjavaTheCat · 27/04/2013 07:53

Going by the nub theory, pretty sure mine's a boy...

KirjavaTheCat · 27/04/2013 07:56

Congrats on all positive scan news!! So exciting all this progress Grin

Fairydogmother · 27/04/2013 07:59

Yummy I'm not planning on buying things like that as I hope to breast feed. It's free so I'm giving it a bloody good go!

YummyMummy17 · 27/04/2013 08:02

Haha fair enough! I envy mothers who can do itSmile good on you Thanks

Fairydogmother · 27/04/2013 08:06

I'll try and see what happens but if it doesn't work I'll not beat myself up. I have a thyroid condition and they've already told me feeding may be difficult but I'm still going to try.

Babies cost enough so if I can avoid paying for formula I will!

We've bought the car seat already as it was on offer for quite a bit off but nothing else yet. Itching to spend!

YummyMummy17 · 27/04/2013 08:21

Well I wish you all the best! You will save fortunes!

I am also itching to spend! I just don't know where to start! Shock

I am not sure wether to get a car seat as part of a pram set or on its own, will need to shop around.Smile

Fairydogmother · 27/04/2013 08:26

The one we got fits the buggy system we like. Would have bought it as a set if I hadn't seen it on sale somewhere else!

getoffthecoffeetable · 27/04/2013 08:46

Morning all. Great news on the scan sperminator

I've no idea why but I've developed on/off morning sickness. I'm 13 weeks today so I was hoping I'd avoided it!

I've got my scan on Monday. I'm very nervous!

Today's going to be spent decorating our bedroom. We've only got a two bedroom house and a lot of my clothes had been in DS's room. We've just had new wardrobes etc delivered so they can go in our bedroom but the room needs brightening up! The new baby's clothes will then have room to go in with DS's even though baby will be in with us.

fairydogmother are you going to express milk at all? If you are (which can be a good way to get your milk supply going) then you'll need a steriliser. Just a thought. I def agree with you about having the car seat clip to the pram. Brilliant for those first trips out when all baby does is sleep and you don't want them disturbed.

Fairydogmother · 27/04/2013 08:57

Ahh talk to me about expressing! I've been reading a bit and had wondered about that but having no experience I didn't know much about it!

The tight of DP being able to feed even once a day would be nice or is that unrealistic?

Fairydogmother · 27/04/2013 08:57

Thought not tight!

YummyMummy17 · 27/04/2013 09:02

Getoffthecoffeetable

You have just given me the urge to paint!! Will need to take a trip to b&q sometime today....Grin

Thanks
