Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi all,

I'm hating my ms, it rears its ugly head between midnight and 3am. :-( so I can't get comfy and get frustrated as I can't sleep. This morning on the way to work, I had a few tears - bloody hormones.

When I bend over I feel a lump/ pain that's telling ,e to stop.

Xxx

Animol · 25/04/2013 20:19

All the best dizzy hope it starts to get better soon.

Has anyone started blooming?!!

I'm feeling a lot better than I was a few weeks ago but not quite got to the 'blooming' stage just yet - ah well there's always hope!

EcoHippyMum · 25/04/2013 20:28

Has anyone had their downs screening back. I got a call today, apparently after the scan, serum test and nuchal scan (which I haven't got much faith in as she kept getting different readings ranging from 1.3 to the 2.6 she put down)... my risk is 1 in 139, the NHS cut off is 150. She said it's tricky as the odds are exactly the same as the odds just based on my age (so really not sure if that means the other tests came out as fine and it's just my age?). Either way the CVS stands a 1% risk of miscarriage, the amniocentesis stands between 0.5 and 1% risk of miscarriage, my risk of having a child with downs syndrome is 0.71%... I don't think it's worth the risk of the test? What do you ladies think?

EcoHippyMum · 25/04/2013 20:31

Animol, I keep being told I look well...not sure if that's people being kind or what! x

Dizzy81 · 25/04/2013 20:34

Thanks Animol, the only good thing s m not being sick. It's the constant nausea feeling I hate!

Eco, have you talked it over with your dh? If the risk of having a child with downs is low personally I don't think it's worthnte risk of further tests.

harverina · 25/04/2013 20:53

Misstweed my dh is coming to scans only this time. Last time he came to the booking in appointment and the scans. He was asked to leave when the midwife spoke to me about domestic violence so you may get an opportunity to speak to your midwife alone - however, you can call in between times or just tell your dh that there are some things you would like to discuss alone.

Nausea has been back a bit - not as bad as it was before though. Late at night seems to be worse which tends to be when there has been a big gap since I last ate. I haven't been eating much dinner some nights so have been having a supper, sometimes maybe a sandwich and this really helps. I really agree that it's linked to blood sugar levels.

My normal clothes are pretty much still fitting, maybe not as comfy but ok.

Have been feeling really tired again too - just goes to show that symptoms do come and go! Last week I felt great - full of energy and no sickness at all!!

Everyone in my work now knows about me being pregnant. Also sent a text to extended family and friends who didn't know yet. Glad everyone knows it means I can be a bit more relaxed - had two lovely ice lollies in work today and no one batted an eyelid despite the rainy weather!

Hope everyone is well Grin

harverina · 25/04/2013 20:53

Oh and he came to a couple of other key appointments like to see the consultant when I was 40 weeks.

harverina · 25/04/2013 20:58

Eco if you are low risk then I would say you would not need to go for any further tests. If you are really keen on further screening, is the harmony test an option for you? It is very expensive. The thing is some women with a high risk go on to have healthy babies with no issue and some women who are low risk have babies with downs. Nothing is guaranteed. Personally if I was within the low risk group, which I was last time, I would have no further tests.

Animol although I feel better i am not blooming in any way! I look exhausted with huge bags under my eyes that no amount of make up will conceal Hmm yet people keep telling me I look great...maybe they mean I look great all things considering...???!

EcoHippyMum · 25/04/2013 21:02

The NHS places me under high risk as their cut off is 1 in 150, I am 11 under this (bugger). DH said he doesn't see the point in having a test which is more of a risk to the baby than the actual risk of having downs syndrome.

I am considering the Harmony test, although it is extremely expensive. The midwife was talking to me about it today, as it has no risks involved. Apparently everywhere is running it at a loss as the test costs over £1000 to do. I am not keen on having the invasive test, I was also reading about the nasal bone, that if it is clearly seen then the risk of having a downs is low... I saw that bone as clear as day on the scan.

stuffthenonsense · 25/04/2013 21:40

Eco I'd go with your husband on this one. If he is happy to live with the risks as shown, and you sound quite convinced that all is ok, then I'd trust him, have a chat about the what ifs of finding anything at birth. You know you have a more than 99% chance of all being well, that's a horse I'd place a bet on.

TheSperminator · 25/04/2013 22:09

I'm planning on going to all the appts and scans with DW. As this is our first DC I want to know what's happening along the way. I also want to be able to help and support her in any way I can. And the best way for me to do that is to be there and know what's going on and what to expect. Afterall we're in this together.

Im now onto my third baby book!

MummaPanda · 25/04/2013 22:17

My dh came to all appointments with dd, but doesn't seem as interested this time around so apart from scans will probably be going solo, or thinking about it, probably my mum or sis as I'll need someone to get me there (we share a car and dh uses it for work, will hopefully have my own car by the time dc2 arrives!) And also will need someone to hold / occupy dd while I'm being poked and proded as she's so young.

As for blooming, I wouldn't quite go that far yet! More like 'plumping', I'm really having to be carefull what I wear now as in some clothes my bump is extremely obvious, and, apart from close family, no one knows.

harverina · 25/04/2013 22:27

Didn't think I would ever have a calippo in bed for supper ShockShockSmile

EcoHippyMum · 25/04/2013 23:21

Thanks Stuff, that's what I think too. Harvarina that sounds like a blooming good idea!

notsoold · 26/04/2013 00:20

Can't sleep again :(

Congratulations to all scanners!!!

Officially it is Friday and I am 14 weeks!!! :)

Good night all

stuffthenonsense · 26/04/2013 06:14

13 weeks and definitely time to bring out the body pillow, although how that will work with a 13month old bed sharing milk monster I've no idea.

Fairydogmother · 26/04/2013 07:09

Eco I can't add much else but I agree with what's been said.

I'm certainly not blooming - apart from blooming tired!

I just want to get back into bed Sad

MissTweed · 26/04/2013 07:24

I got to submit my forms in work today about my maternity leave. I've put that my due date is the 28th (is was but now 25th) as the 25th is a Thursday so rather start the mat leave on a Monday as I'd have the weekend off anyway (if that makes sense?) but how long before your due date are you planning on leaving?? I've booked off the 2 weeks before (using annual leave) but would I need more??? I'm a newbie Smile

Dizzy81 · 26/04/2013 07:30

Morning all, 12 weeks today and have my scan a week today.

Miss Tweed, I've got my mat leave to start two weeks before my due date and then two weeks of annual leave before that. I think my boss would have me work right upto me having contractions, so they can save money on my replacement!!!

Thankfully the nausea wasn't too bad last night, hazah.

Wishing positive vibes to all those with scans today.

Slippysnow · 26/04/2013 07:50

ecohippy are you a vegetarian? On one of the threads I read recently (may have been this one) someone was saying that a study has shown that the bloods taken in the combined test can be affected thus show an increased chance of downs. Or something along those lines. If you are I will look for it for you

EcoHippyMum · 26/04/2013 08:19

Nope I'm not a vegetarian, was when I was teenager, but I do love my vegetables and eat loads of them lol. I might email the midwife and ask if I can have the results of the blood test... they didn't tell me that just that with everything combined it comes out as the exact expected risk for someone of my age. I've been looking online and there are lots of women that get much much lower results i.e. 1 in 35, even 1 in 2! Some have gone on to have 'normal' children whilst others have had downs, and then others considered low risk, 1 in 1000 had children with downs syndrome. I think the Harmony test is the way forward, however at the current cost I can't see the NHS taking it on for some time.

busyprocrastinating · 26/04/2013 08:21

Miss tweed I worked up to two weeks before and found it was ideal. By the last couple of days I was too tired and not really productive. This time I will finish a bit earlier but that's because I'm a teacher so will be going back for September no matter when I finish so may as well make the most of it and spend some time with dd before newborn chaos ensues.

Tired dh has booked some time off and we will be venturing to peppa pig world in August. Thanks.

So glad it's Friday. I've still not told anyone at work I just can't bring myself to do it.

harverina · 26/04/2013 08:26

Someone told me that they are hoping to offer the harmony test on the Nhs within 3 years but I think it will be offered as an alternative to amnio as opposed to just everyone getting it.

I left work at 37+ weeks the last time but this time I plan on stopping at week 36 at the latest so I have some time to get organised and relax. My work made no allowances for my pregnancy last time and I was frazzled right up to the end - I've been told that its better now but I'm not willing to risk it! Will probably take some annual leave and mat leave combined....can't wait!!!!! Grin

KirjavaTheCat · 26/04/2013 08:26

I did the same thing as Dizzy (congrats for reaching 12 weeks!!), worked out great. DS came on his due date so I had four weeks to get everything in order and put my very swollen feet up.

Bought a snow suit from eBay just now, 'tis gorgeous Blush

pegster · 26/04/2013 08:35

Last time I stopped work at 37w but then DS was 2w late so had 5w off which was getting a bit dull (& I had too much time to fret about his non-arrival) by the end. Planning an ELCS this time though so baby will probably arrive a week before due date so thinking 36 weeks might be about right?
