What a lovely sunny day it has been!!! Grin

No saundy haven't changed washing powder, good idea though! Someone on the allergy threads was telling me about PUPPPs but normally that doesn't start until 3rd trimester, but aparently it can be caused by a reaction to the male foetus DNA, although it can't be proven, 70% of cases are women expecting boys.

Hopefully I'm not developing this though as it sounds unbearable! I'm just hoping my itchiness goes away on its own and it will just be one of those weird things. If it does carry on will be interesting to see if it is a boy!
Dragon just trying out the new smiley hehe

harverina · 23/04/2013 21:44

Eco have just been catching up - great news about your scan too!!! Grin

harverina · 23/04/2013 21:45

Mumma can colestasis start as early as this - that makes you itchy but I thought it usually started in the 3rd trimester too. I had that with dd and the itch was awful Hmm

Dizzy81 · 24/04/2013 06:49

Morning all

Great news on all the positive scans.

I'm 11 + 4 and my symptoms are fading, the brown line I had is fainter too, am soo nervous about my scan a week on Friday that theyLl say something horrible. I'm being positive one min and negative the next, I'm clinging on to the fact ny private scan was ok at 7+4.

CheeseandGherkins · 24/04/2013 06:52

Morning. Leaving for london soon for harmony test so I will have a quick scan first to make sure I'm at the right gestation. So nervous. Should be 10+4.

TiredFeet · 24/04/2013 07:29

Good luck cheese and anyone else with scans today!!

Dizzy81 · 24/04/2013 08:10

Good luck cheese, xxx

KirjavaTheCat · 24/04/2013 08:22

Good luck Cheese, hope you return with good news x

Animol · 24/04/2013 08:27

Morning all

dizzy I know how you feel - my symptoms are disappearing too which makes me nervous even though I've been through it 4 times before and it was always fine - I did notice this morning though that if I bend down it kind of feels like there's something in the way! Does this mean the days of not being able to cut myown toenails are coming!

theboob I'm really torn about whether to have the Nuchal scan or not. We're sure we wouldn't terminate for Downs - but, I'm so old (42) that my risk is already about 1 in 30 - which I know some people would consider extremely high risk and my Doc suggested having it done just so we could come to terms with it a bit if LO does have Downs and prepare ourselves and family for it. I've got my scan next week and what I'm thinking now is to let the Doc do the ordinary scan and if he thinks the Nuchal bit looks worrying to do the proper Nuchal Scan - It's really hard to decide though - would it be better not to know??

All the best to everyone with scans today.

11 weeks today yippee!!!!

getoffthecoffeetable · 24/04/2013 08:32

Good luck with your scan cheese hope everything goes well.

I'm exhausted before the day's even begun. DS has decided to keep newborn hours for some reason. Very annoying! When I'm really tired it makes me feel sick. Sorry for the moan!

theboob DH and I are planners and would want to plan for all eventualities which is why we want the nuchal scan.

Dizzy81 · 24/04/2013 08:44

Animol, I started to notice that too, mine is just right from the belly button and I was thinking is that jellybean getting in the way!

williaminajetfighter · 24/04/2013 09:20

good luck today cheese - may your harmony scan be 'harmonious'

animol I am 43 and so risk of Downs and genetic problems also high for me. I decided to do the testing because (a) I had it last time and (b) I would rather know in advance, even if I decided to continue with the pregnancy. It gives time to mentally prepare. I also think no one really knows how they will respond to the test results - a friend who was 45 was adamant that she wouldn't terminate if her baby had Downs but when she got a positive result she had to think really long and hard about her financial situation, the family support (or lack of support) that she had and she ended up making a decision which was opposite to what she originally thought she would do. It's a tough one.

Slippysnow · 24/04/2013 10:11

Hi animol I felt exactly the same about the nt scan to us it was irrelevant whether the baby was born with downs, however we thought it would be good to prepare to gauge what to expect if that was the case. But, what alot of hospitals don't tell you is the test isn't just for downs. There are many other genetic disorders it screens for including turners, Edwards, plataus and a couple of others which I can't recall. Some of these mean the baby will never develop to full term or have minimal chances of survival past birth. I wasn't told this myself just found out on mumsnet and googled the syndromes for myself. I think more emphasis should be given about these but I think they are generally much smaller chance of occurring. Hope this helps you

TiredFeet · 24/04/2013 12:10

thanks this is a really helpful discussion about the nuchal scan. I am tempted to have it now. I didn't first time round as it took so long to get pregnant and then I went through so much with hyperemesis for 5 weeks that I knew I could never face amnio with the risk of miscarriage it carries (however slight/ theoretical). but this time round maybe I should, I wouldn't terminate for downs but at least I could be prepared. and I didn't fully appreciate the other disorders it screens for slippy. the harmony tests sound like a brilliant solution but I'm definitely not well enough to travel to London. hopefully the tests will one day be rolled out into the NHS...

I've been looking into holidays as a distraction (still being sick a lot Sad ). I've decided we should take DS on one more before the baby comes, he's such a good little traveller (a superstar on planes etc, and settles happily anywhere) and who knows if we'll be as lucky the next time! we're going to Jersey for a few days but its to see family so I have decided that doesn't count Blush. I'm tempted by somewhere warm, but not too warm. now just the challenge to persuade DH we can afford it despite another baby on the way (and a house to buy...). The thing is life has been so stressful recently I think it could be quite important to have a week of family time before the baby comes. but DH's busiest (and most lucrative time) is the summer so persuading him is going to take all my powers of persuasion I think! anyone got any good suggestions where to go with a toddler? Our last holiday was skiing, which he did love, but I would like this one to be properly toddler oriented I think.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 24/04/2013 12:16

tired a holiday sounds like a great idea. I'm saving all mine for just before I go on mat leave, not really sure when to start it yet and need to let manager know by end of the week.

The posts about nuchal scans are really interesting. I definately fall into the I want to know camp, I won't make myself popular here but I think I probably wouldn't continue a pregnancy if the baby had downs. It would be a huge struggle financially and a huge strain on the marriage.

Fairydogmother · 24/04/2013 12:28

i dont even know what would happen if the triple test i can have comes out with a high risk. i dont think they will even do a termination here for that if we chose that route.

the only info i've had has been a leaflet which gave v scant details - and i had to ask for that.

i know for certain that if our baby had significant issues then we wouldnt want to continue however living over here doesnt seem to afford us the same rights as everyone else in the UK.

MummaPanda · 24/04/2013 12:53

tired I'm hoping to take dd on a little family holiday before baby is born too! I thought she should atleast get one before she isn't an only child anymore. But she's so young I think the best we will be able to manage is maybe butlins or centerparks or something like that for a few days, and I've got to find the perfect balence of her being old enough to enjoy and appreciate it, but me not being too pregnant I can't do anything fun!!

DittyRatt · 24/04/2013 13:10

Afternoon all.

I had my scan this morning at 10. Everything is fine. Baby measures 5cm. The sonographer said I have a lively baby as it wouldn't keep still.
We also got 6pictures at £5 each, and they are all different the sonographer at my hospital takes as many as you ask for rather than taking one picture and giving you x amount of copy's.

theboob you are not alone I am not having any screening tests done either. The only things I am having are the 2 scans and the bloods I have had done to test for immunity different thing and iron levels ect...

12+1 today still so I was right about my dates ...x

SpanishLady · 24/04/2013 13:21

Im another concerned about the Nuchal test - I have mine next Tuesday and being 38 (ok as good as 39 - my b-day is 7 May) and having twins I cant see how my 'scores' arent going to be anything about on the low side (by which I mean potentially high risk) a further worried by the fact the Midwives have raised with me how I should consider what I am going to do especially as one twin may be low risk and one high.

anything that is 1: x hundred we probably wont investigate further - but its a 1: below 100 that wil be scary for me.

Fairydogmother · 24/04/2013 13:24

fab news ditty

theres several of us all due within a few days of each other!

cant believe you have to pay for photos! tho i think at the 20 week scan my friend got the first one free but had to pay for subsequent ones.

i checked out nuchal tests privately here and most places wont do them - the place that does charges over £230 Confused

Fairydogmother · 24/04/2013 13:25

spanish my birthday is 8 May Smile

williaminajetfighter · 24/04/2013 13:28

congrats dirtyrat what fab news. 5cm... that's quite big!

Tired about holidays my only suggestion is to NOT go to Lanzarote -- soulless, depressing and chips 'n eggs by the sea. Urgh.

Best holiday I ever went on with DH and toddler was, honestly, Luxor in Egypt. Stayed a few nights at the Grand Hotel then to the Sheraton which had great food, fab hotel, lovely accommodation. Early DH or I would take turns going out to the valley of the kings or to a balloon ride, then we'd all congregate around the pool in the afternoon, then evenings at the Temple of Karnak or dinner by the Nile. It was glorious and highly recommended... and way cheaper than two weeks in a kind of Butlins-by-the-sea compound in Dominican Republic....

stuffthenonsense · 24/04/2013 13:43

Spanish, research very thoroughly what the test accuracy is....my gp was given a 1:35 for her pregnancy, continued with pregnancy and that little girl is now a perfectly healthy six year old with not a single 'issue' of any type.
I'm not having any screening tests as the results won't make any difference to me. I think if I were told in advance that there was a 1:3 chance I would just spend the entire pregnancy worrying instead if seeing a 2:3 chance of no problems and enjoying it. I am a recovering worrier though.

Fairydogmother · 24/04/2013 14:05

stuff you're def right - its hard to see the odds as a positive rather than a negative!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 24/04/2013 14:19

ditty that's great news. Congrats on the active baby.

Have my nhs one tomorrow and am still crapping myself even though I had a good scan a week and a half ago.
