Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It's so inconsistent isn't it? You'd have thought prenatal care would be standardised nationwide, but it seems to differ region to region.

Fairydogmother · 23/04/2013 14:53

So odd and I do worry that I'm not getting the same care as others...

williaminajetfighter · 23/04/2013 15:14

Minesahot... I had my scan today and they did the nuchal scan and it took a long time to work out where lining of uterus ended and baby neck started. They took a number of stills and averaged it out --- came up with 1.1 which I'm relieved about (especially as I am 43!) I heard them say it and then they told me. If you're not told I think you should ask.

They took blood test and told me they'd either (a) send me a letter if the numbers turned out okay or (b) phone me if there are concerns so I can come in for more tests, possibly amnio or quadruple screening at 16 weeks.

Does that help?

bizzybee1234 · 23/04/2013 15:20

I have my booking appointment last week. After 30 mins, the midwife said "Part 2 of the booking appt is at your home". Is she going to snoop around and look in every room? Paranoid now, as I am well behind with the cleaning...!

Scan is on Thursday, can't wait!

bizzybee1234 · 23/04/2013 15:22

sorry that should say had by appointment last week, part 2 is next Monday at my home

getoffthecoffeetable · 23/04/2013 15:42

bizzy she'll not look round your house, don't worry

berrybomb · 23/04/2013 15:46

My nuchal measurement was 2.2 - does that sound normal!?

Is anyone else getting bad headaches? I'm getting them for days on end and they just don't shift. I never normally get headaches.

Fairydogmother · 23/04/2013 15:49

Berry I have a whopper of a headache Sad

berrybomb · 23/04/2013 15:53

Fairy - it's horrible isn't it. I feel like I'm hungover, but didn't get the fun bit that normally comes with a day at work feeling queasy and headachy!!

Fairydogmother · 23/04/2013 15:58

Totally! I have woken up so many times with a raging thirst and a headache - feels like I've been at the gin!

getoffthecoffeetable · 23/04/2013 15:59

I've also had a stinker of a headache since I woke up yesterday morning.

pegster · 23/04/2013 16:08

Great to catch up with other people's news. Had my scan Saturday and have a new due date of oct 31st - Halloween!! Nuchal measurement 1.4 which I'm pleased about but got to wait for the bloods to be factored in, hopefully will get a postal result within a week. Told work today so feels a lot more real nowSmile

bizzybee1234 · 23/04/2013 16:25

Thanks for reassurance getoffthecoffeetable, I was getting a bit uptight about it. Not that my house is a complete tip or anything, but if she is going to look in every nook and cranny I'm stuffed.

Anyone else suffering from back pain? Think its pelvic girdle pain, but waiting to see doc about that.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 23/04/2013 17:10

Congrats to all with scans today.

bizzy the booking in is at your home Confused I didn't even know there was a second bit to booking in. I've got an achy back too, it feels like period pain, which is worrying but it only hurts when I am moving around.

artyone · 23/04/2013 17:11

williamina & KirjavaTheCat congrats on the successful scans! yay.

MissTweed I am a worrier too, as soon as one worry is eased, I come up with something else to worry about! Well done on the bargains!

It's my first so I'm not even sure what I need to buy yet, but I did pick up a lovely baby grow last week. It's early but I couldn't help it.

My NHS scan letter has come through and it's on 2nd May. They will do nuchal and bloods too. I've already had 2 lots of blood taken and am not especially looking forward to it, but I'm excited to get the scan picture and to tell people!

harverina · 23/04/2013 17:24

Fabulous news about your scans williamina and kirjava!! Lovely to see positive news Grin

Dizzy I have had lots of backache this pregnancy. I feel that mine is muscular, but still pregnancy related - I did lots of housework yesterday - did lots of hoovering and mopping, windows etc and my back was killing me last night and this morning. Exact same thing happened last pregnancy but not so early. I suffered from sciatica last time too, hoping I don't get it again Grin

Minesahotchocolate · 23/04/2013 17:28

Thanks Williamina - yes that helps! Good to have an idea of what happens and that u get part of the measurement without needing to wait for blood results :) Will be so glad once that big is all done and well.

ilovemiltonismybestfriend · 23/04/2013 19:47

Berry bomb your nuchal falls in the range for normal! If its below 3.5 they class it as normal as long as your baby is between 45mm and 84mm

Saundy · 23/04/2013 20:14

Thanks guys!

Animol brushing teeth wise I totally get it - it's my trigger to be sick, which doesn't work out very well as you need to brush your teeth afterwards!!

Brilliant news Echo & you too Will did you get good pics? Kirj sucking thumb sounds insane, they're like little people already!!
Harv baby lying on its belly sounds so cute & you get another scan - yey!! Has your due date changed?

Peg if you have a Halloween baby I'll be so jealous!!!!

Mumma probably an obvious question but have you changed your washing powder recently?

Bizzy my MW told me they only ask to look at the rest if your house in extreme circumstances. I imagine if you have used syringes strewn around & its like stepping into hoarders they'll want a look, behind on your washing - less likely to care.

Still no scan date!! Who do I call, the midwife or hospital?! Or am I jumping the gun, am 11+4?!

theboob · 23/04/2013 20:54

so happy for all good scan news !

am I the only one that has declined all these tests and blood tests on the thread ?

busyprocrastinating · 23/04/2013 21:04

Bizzy the midwife does a check on your house here a couple of weeks before your due date and last time our house, which we had just bought and completely renovated, was still a building site. She just checked that i had somewhere safe to take it so I showed her my dads. Luckily we just got ours done in time.

I would be calling the hospital Saundy to check. I got a letter about 3 weeks before and then a phone call the week before to check I'd be attending.

I think my sickness over the weekend was a bug or a dodgy curry as dh came down with it as well. I didn't get out of bed at all on Sunday. But feeling better now just in time to go back to work!

Lovely to hear positive scan stories.

busyprocrastinating · 23/04/2013 21:05

Boob I had my nuchal test and first lot of bloods done but unless there are any problems with the pg I won't be having any more

2Labradors · 23/04/2013 21:10

Congratulations on all the positive scans.

theboob we will be having the 12 week scan but not the Down syndrome tests, we didn't have it with our previous 2 either. We will be having all the other blood tests though for HIV, rubella etc

I feel like I'm really behind, as my due date is 26th Nov and don't have my booking in appointment until next week and the scan is only arranged after that appointment, so could be 3-4 weeks away still. Hope it comes through sooner than that though.

I paid for a private scan last Saturday though, as I was so anxious and felt like the 12 week scan is such a long time away, and saw a little heartbeat, really hoping that everything is still ok at 12 weeks.

Still managing to wear my normal work trousers but don't know how much longer they will hold out haha

honey86 · 23/04/2013 21:11

so... this number of weeks that you magically recover at.... Sad

Hiya,

I can't remember who was saying how different peoples experiences can be depending on their area/hospital. I've really found that, I've been really lucky with mine, had quick letters through with dates for the scans and mw appointments.

My scan was amazing, had a lovely but thorough lady doing the scan, it was shown on her screen and on a tv postioned on the wall so be and dp could watch intently. She showed us all the baby's organs and limbs and explained the significance for measuring, she made sure she got a clear and accurate nt fold measurement. She turned on the blood flow imaging, and she even let us hear the heart beat- this seems to be rare on the 12 week scans.
Also, she told us the results of the bloods and nt combined measurements on the day, unfortunately there was an issue with the blood department and was a backlog so had to wait an extra hour (I started to panic thinking this was an excuse for something more concerning). If this didn't happen I would have been told them straight after the scan, lots of people have had to wait and got either a phone call or letter. (I'm nhs in London)

This is not a gloating post, just wanted to say if your unsatisfied with how you are being handled push for more especially appointment dates, it helps you focus towards something.
