Good luck with your appointment Legally - hope you get to hear two little heartbeats (you'll have to let us know how they do that with twins!).

That is a shocking thing to say to new mum - how on earth can they consider that is going to help? The NHS breastfeeding thing is very odd though - as I said the midwives on my postnatal ward were practically forcing the new mums to give babies formula. I'm glad I BF DS, and will try with next one as well - but if I'm honest, I'm not sure I believe all of the hype about health benefits of BF - I can't think of any differences in the health of children I know that could be down to whether they were BF or FF.

roxvox · 15/04/2013 14:22

Thanks MoN. I will be thinking of you. I don't blame you for not looking forward to it, but I hope you get some good results out of it to make it all worthwhile.

Good luck this afternoon legally! Let us know how you get on.

Who else has had their 16w MW appointments so far? Were they forthcoming with the doppler?

Scraggyspanner · 15/04/2013 14:25

Thank you to everyone for the welcome.

I've seen the discussions about prams, it's a whole new world!! Does anyone know at what stage we need to think seriously about a pram and get one ordered?

Also, I'm going to a wedding when I will be 20 weeks, and have been reading about people's maternity wear experiences. Am I likely to have a decent bump at this stage? rather than the podge I have at the mo at 13+1 I'm tempted to start looking but it's tricky when you don't know how much you will change over the coming weeks.

I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine

cazboldy · 15/04/2013 14:26

I Bf all of mine

ds1 only to 10 weeks, then i went back to school, couldn't keep up with expressing the amount he needed when i was gone, tried mixed feeding, but it didn't agree with him, and so had to go on to formula.

dd1 - 13 months

ds2 17 months

ds 3 13 months (i was 7 months pg with dd2 at the time, and he couldn't get comfy any more)

and dd2 13 months - she bit me one morning, and i yelped, and she flat refused to try ever again!

will definitely bf this one - Im too lazy to FF Grin

you have to buy the formula, buy the bottles, make the bottles, sterilise the bottles, wash the bottles, warm the bottles.......

all that instead of getting the boob out - no contest really! Grin

however - i feel it is an extremely personal choice, and definitely NOT something one should ever be made to feel guilty for doing/not doing.

favellio · 15/04/2013 15:00

I completely agree! No one should be made to feel bad for not breast feeding. A friend of mine basically got branded a failure by her health visitor because she had a horrendous time BF her DD and had to give up after a week, fearing her DD would end up malnourished. To this day she believes that was a major contribution to her PND :-(

cherrycherry41 · 15/04/2013 15:06

Scraggy i went to a wedding at 19 weeks and had a small bump- enough to notice and for people to want to feel but i only wore a floaty dress from New Look (not maternity), bought a medium and it fit lovely :) was a size 10 pre pregnancy so would normally buy small.

TheFalconsmistress · 15/04/2013 15:07

It really was a big factor in my PND too favellio I got made to feel useless as my boobs just would not produce I have a very hard time after ds was born i was physically and mentally unwell for a year. I want more control this time and i am another not a great believer of bf benefits vs ff poison route as i know many many bf babies that are much more sickly than ds plus Dh loved being involved in feeding too!

Natalieand · 15/04/2013 15:07

favellio fellow scan buddy I also have my 20 week scan on may 24th ill be 19+4 and dh and I will be finding out the sex. X

Warlin · 15/04/2013 16:11

I bf DS for a few weeks and hated every minute of it.The midwives were really pushy the minute he was born and insisted I tried (I was too sore and tired to argue). Anyway he wouldn't latch and I spent days/ weeks worrying he wasnt getting enough. I just didn't enjoy it and was relieved to make the decision to ff. My life got much less stressful and dh was able to help which was fab.

Agree with all the hassle re bottles and sterilising etc but it's a personal choice. I'm a bit of a prude and could never bf in public so it was always going to be restrictive for me.

I would love to be a natural bfeeder and just get on with it and enjoy it but I'm not. I think this time I'll give the colostrum at the start and then ff. DS is healthy and happy and ff babies def sleep through the night earlier!

I have my 16 week mw apt tmw and don't know what to expect..hoping to hear a hb and will be disappointed if not :(

Warlin · 15/04/2013 16:14

cazboldy wow! Firstly, hats off to the number of children you have! You and MoN are gluttens for punishment :) Will this be your 5th?? And also to bfing all of them...! Admiration from me!

cazboldy · 15/04/2013 16:24

lol warlin this will be number 6 Smile

admiration? - not sure i deesrve that lol most just think im nuts! Grin

Warlin · 15/04/2013 16:27

6...wow! I'm worried about how I will cope with 2! You mustnt have had a decent night's sleep in years Shock

MotherOfNations · 15/04/2013 16:27

Cazboldy They do say there's a fine line between bravery and stupidity.

TheFalconsmistress · 15/04/2013 16:28

warlin I just asked when i went to my 16 week appointment to check hb for me she said she would do it only if i did not panic if she could not find it. It took about 3-4 mins of poking about and then we got it xxx

MotherOfNations · 15/04/2013 16:31

Just had a wee nosey at your profile cazboldy your children are gorgeous. How the hell do you find time to do an ou degree though?

Slippysnow · 15/04/2013 16:33

I know your all probably thinking scans are old news/been there done that..... But I had mine today! One amazingly wriggly baby who did not want to stay still the scanner called them a rascal (hehe). It looked like it was mountaineering and then launching them self down a water slide. Made me giggle. We got put ahead to the 25th of oct, I'm hoping for a haloween baby - excellent parties.

Tests are low risk too. My 20week scan is on June 13th (I think). Re breast feeding, I'm gonna really try and seek advice if things aren't working out but I am not going to beat myself up if I start struggling to cope its not good for anyone. As for buggys we. Are going to get the baby city jogger gt. as it will hopefully fit in our tiny aygo boot, has an amazing one handed fold and should be good for dog walking. Hello to anyone new. I'm so over the moon, 2 years of trying then I finally see my lil baby on screen swimming about!!!!!!!

TheFalconsmistress · 15/04/2013 16:39

Congrats slippysnow Grin

MotherOfNations · 15/04/2013 16:48

Aww so pleased for you Slippy You should put a pic up. I never tire of cute scan pics.

cazboldy · 15/04/2013 16:52

MoN barely have time.... but getting there, nearly half way now, and got latest assignment back today - 70% so not too bad.... only work one day a week which helps. thanks for the lovely comments re photos, although they are terribly out of date.... my eldest is 16 now, and my bath baby was 6 last weekend Grin

oh and i'm 31!

warlin yeah i have - had good babies ( and as above they are all older now anyway)

it's going to be like starting all over again!

cazboldy · 15/04/2013 16:53

Oh and Congrats slippy Smile

Smitten1981 · 15/04/2013 17:09

I've just had a call from the midwife about my NT test and it's not good news.

They said the baby has a 1:15 chance of having Down's. It was my bloodwork that was high risk as one hormone was very high and the other one they look for was low, also the measurement was on the high end of normal.
I think we're going to book the Harmony test but I'm waiting for a call back about how accurate it is as we want a yes or no, not another ratio.

I don't really know what to do now, it's all so uncertain.

roxvox · 15/04/2013 17:10

Congrats slippysnow... Pictures please!

And I think I may have neglected to say in my last few posts; welcome to all of the newcomers! Always glad to have some more chatty peeps on this bus Smile

My boss is coming in next week to 'talk about dates'... So I am guessing she wants an idea of when I will be looking to go on maternity leave. Anyone else given this much thought yet?

roxvox · 15/04/2013 17:11

Sorry, cross post.

Sorry to hear that Smitten. Sounds as though the harmony test might be a good idea. Will they take further blood tests now to reassess or anything?

TheFalconsmistress · 15/04/2013 17:18

Sorry to hear that smittenxx

Smitten1981 · 15/04/2013 17:18

I'm not sure really. I don't know if the only way to find out 100% is by having the CVS. Waiting for a call back to discuss it.
