Mine felt like bubbles popping the 1st time. This time it is more like tickling, but have also had a couple of boots as well - Jelly I know what you mean about going over a car, like something inside has bounced up.

Having a crisis about pushchairs ladies. DS will be 2.9 when DC2 arrives, so won't really need a pushchair. We quite often don't bother taking one out now, he is quite capable of walking BUT he can be a right pain in the arse at times. So I feel a bit silly investing in a double when I don't really need it, but the thought of having no where to strap him in if he goes off on one when out on my own with the two of them brings me out in cold sweats! Anyone with older toddlers having the same dilemma, or advice from those who have been in the same position?

TheFalconsmistress · 24/04/2013 13:51

buggy board might do the trick bowlfull or get DS a scooter its what we did for Ds we still had to hire a buggy at butlins when he was 3.5 years old as he moaned so much about walking though!!

Racheld33 · 24/04/2013 13:51

Hi all, just got back from my 18 week midwife appt. ( I wasn't offered a 16 week one so this is my first appt) it must be a record as only in room for 2 mins 30 seconds! Asked if I was ok? Yes, took my BP, normal, on the bed to listen to the heart beat, all normal. See you at 28 weeks. I think they're laid back when it's your second!

Racheld33 · 24/04/2013 13:52

Bowlful, DS will be 3.2 when new baby born, so plan is buggy board for short trips, or baby in sling and toddler in push chair for longer trips or tired days!

TheFalconsmistress · 24/04/2013 13:54

Wow that is quick rachel and you have no appointment now till 28 weeks do you have a scan soon? I have a scan may 9th the anomaly one and an mw appointment at 22 weeks.

Racheld33 · 24/04/2013 13:56

Have my 20 week scan booked for 10th may, then see midwife at 28 weeks! Couldn't believe it, but taking it as a good sign that they think I don't need them!

walnut300 · 24/04/2013 13:58

My friends sister just gave birth today. she was told it was a girl at the 20 week scan. she bought all girlie things, decorated nursery pink and had been calling baby Lilly all through pregnancy. well .. bit of a surprise when she gave birth to a beautiful boy this morning! !! Shock

Warlin · 24/04/2013 13:58

The hospital I am going to won't tell you the sex as they have been sued for getting it wrong before. It's a pain in the ass as I will have to pay for a private gender scan and they won't do those until I'm 18 weeks.

I have def had some movements this time, yet last time I must have been about 22 weeks before I felt a thing! Just depends on where the baby is lying I guess

BowlFullofJelly · 24/04/2013 13:58

But you can't actually strap them into a buggy board or scooter though can you? Generally he is fine (making him out to be a monster lol), but it's when he decides to tantrum that I'm scared. One on one it's fine - I suppose I'm worried about him legging it, chasing him with pushchair etc. I don't drive, and so when I am out with the two of them it will be lots of walking and buses.

Glad your appointment went well Rachel. They are definitely much more laid back - it's weird not seeing the midwife between 16 and 28 weeks!

TheFalconsmistress · 24/04/2013 14:00

where about in the country are you I'm in scotland and when i went for the 16 weeks she said i did not need it they don't normally see you until 22 weeks. I think its all different everywhere but i seem to have it in my head i have appointment at 22 weeks 26 weeks 30 weeks then 32,34,36,37,38,39,40 i already have my overdue appointment for Oct 3rd at hospital lol

TheFalconsmistress · 24/04/2013 14:05

lol at bowlfull but i do get it I have had to chase DS over a busy road when he ran off not to long ago Hmm

walnut wow it is rare though I think i am getting extra scans as im under consultant care but if not i will be getting a private one in the third tri anyhow but i am happy with my diagnosis of girl as i have thought it from the beginning as well as scan saying so Smile

Racheld33 · 24/04/2013 14:06

Bowlfull, no definitely cannot strap onto a buggy board (maybe a bit of Sellotape?!) Grin other possible option is having one of those pushchairs that can lie flat for baby or up for a toddler, keep your baby in most of the time (keep a sling with you in the pushchair basket) and if he ever plays up, quickly pop baby in sling and toddler strapped in pushchair, I know that may be difficult to do mid-tantrum!

Walnut, cannot believe she spent 20 weeks expecting a girl! That would be a shock!

Claphammama · 24/04/2013 14:27

bowlfull I would just manage as you suggest and not invest in the double-buggy. Such an expense and you will probably find that you end up using it as intended only a few times. You are not going to have your baby for another 6 months and 6 months is a lot for a little boy! Your DS1 will grow up and change so much by then and will be happier walking for longer. With DS1, I used the buggy until he was about 2.6 and then he totally lost interest and was just frustrated if he had to sit in it. The scooter days arrived...

On a different topic... I understand people plan a bit once the scan shows it's a girl or a boy. But suing the hospital seems a bit excessive... they always warn you it's not 100%, especially if they think it's a girl. I bought a lot of neutrals last time, just in case, although they told us it was clearly a boy. (also because I love other colours, yellows, greens etc... :-)

What a b of a headache today, honestly... is there something in the air today?

Still, really excited about my first preggo yoga tonight and meeting some other local mums! DS1 is already almost 5 and most of my NCT friends had number 2s after 2-3 years so I'm a bit behind! I'm already planning my maternity leave and mummy coffee mornings as you can see :-)

BowlFullofJelly · 24/04/2013 14:35

I was hoping you would all tell me to buy a double buggy Hmm! You mean I am actually going to have to parent and discipline my child? Wink

I desperately need to make some mummy friends this time around. Didn't really bother last time, partly because went back to work when DS was 17 weeks, and partly because 1 baby was quite easy to fit into our existing social life. Am planning on taking 9-12 months this time, and with a toddler as well I know I am going to need that adult company!

walnut300 · 24/04/2013 14:57

yep rachel i think it was quite a shock!!

Natalieand · 24/04/2013 15:23

Lol jelly this baby is due 16 days before dd 3rd birthday and I'm getting a buggy and buggy board I will keep dd stroller for if we have a full on family day at zoo etc as dh can push it if she needs a sit down or why don't u go for something like the Phil and teds? Size of a single but holds two kiddie winks its a bit easier for me as I drive so never ha to walk long distance or busses etc

roxvox · 24/04/2013 16:11

Buggy's are a minefield, especially when combined with car seats... And I have the simplest requirements (1 baby). So I feel for those of you like bowlfull who have to try and accomodate 2 children!

MotherOfNations · 24/04/2013 16:34

TheresThere's is only a year between my oldest 3 so my ds had to walk everywhere from the age of 2 and I had a double buggy for the younger two.
The double buggy didn't fit on some buses so I got a pram with a large shopping basket and put a quilt in there for dd to sit on. I attracted some funny looks.

HotSoupDumpling · 24/04/2013 16:56

Maybe you could get a buggy board and DIY two metal straps on it to LOCK your elder one's feet into place Wink

So I've gone and bought a load of Debbie Bliss superwash merino and am starting the first blanket tonight! Thank you for all knitters on this thread for inspiring me to pull my finger out get going!

roxvox · 24/04/2013 16:56

Someone said on here a while ago about how someone they know has twins, and is now pregnant with triplets, so is going to have 5 children under 2 years old. How on earth is she going to cope with buggy shopping?! I think I would probably just not leave the house until all of my children were old enough to walk.

Claphammama · 24/04/2013 17:07

OMG. Is it a real story..??? I feel so sorry for this woman. I'm sure it will be lovely once they all grow up, and so close together. But it must be hell for the first few years...

I am definitely not made for twins, ever. One at a time please! Was so relieved when they confirmed there is only one there. You never know!
My friend had two little boys so they thought - one last try for a girl. And ended up with twin boys! LOL. It's just her and 5 men in the house now.

1wilma1 · 24/04/2013 17:18

Bowlful a Phil and Teds tandem double might work for you? The second seat is really easy to take on and off and is small enough to fit in the basket when you don't need it so you get the best of both worlds - a single pushchair that can be quickly and easily converted to a double on the odd occasion it's needed.

Shirehobbit · 24/04/2013 17:20

I was vaguely disappointed when we discovered we weren't having twins....for about a second. Then I was just relieved!

Wickedgirl · 24/04/2013 17:25

My dd was only 23 months old when ds came along. For short journeys, she walked and for longer ones, the baby went in the sling and dd went into the buggy. She was very good at walking at a young age though and was a very well behaved little girl. (She is still an absolute delight even now that she's almost 15)

I will have two teenagers and a newborn living in the same house! If that isn't a recipe for disaster I don't know what is!

As a maternity nurse, I had the pleasure of working with several sets of twins. Once you get used to it, it isn't too bad but it is hard work. I have only worked with one set of newborn triplets and they were really, really hard work. They were born at 29 weeks and spent nearly 11weeks in special care. They are now 5 years old and full of fun.

legallyblond · 24/04/2013 18:24

Ummmm..... Yup. Twins are a shock!!
