Is it routine to take bloods at the 16 week appointment? If not, I wonder if I can convince the mw to door anyway, because I'm worried about anaemia.

34PinkLadyApple · 23/04/2013 22:19

My appointment only took 15 mins and she didnt take blood

OrangeBlossom2 · 23/04/2013 22:45

Thanks all. Yes doing no more googling, will call midwife tomorrow to check it is ok so I don't have to wait until my 16 week consultant appointment at 18 weeks but I am sure I am just worrying about nothing.

ananikifo my midwife took my bloods because they do the combined blood test in my area, rather than the nuchal fold. I am not sure if it's standard practice anyway to take them at the 16w appointment. I am sure that if you mention your concerns about anaemia then they'll be happy to take bloods though.

ananikifo · 24/04/2013 08:03

Ok thanks roxvox.

littleducks · 24/04/2013 08:58

Hi everybody, I haven't posted much recently as it would be a bit of a whinge. I really don't do pregnancy well. I had a scan on Monday which gave me an EDD of 15th October. Previously my dates suggested the 6th and a previous scan the 24th, so it seems diplomatic for it to be in between.

So I'm only 15 weeks but really am feeling symptoms that I didn't have until much later last time, back ache, headaches and tiredness. Not to mention the havoc the baby is playing on my bladder.

Sephy · 24/04/2013 09:39

I'm with you on the bladder little ducks - off for a nurses appointment this morning to see if I have cystitis and need antibiotics. Have been feeling a bid 'odd' in that department for a few days - usually a sure sign I'll be peeing razors in a day's time, so I'm just a bit confused if its alright or not.

The other stuff sounds really rubbish, hope you feel better soon and that it's just a phase...do you have any nicer symptoms like feeling the baby move to go with them, or are you just stuck with the annoying/painful ones?

roxvox · 24/04/2013 09:56

Sorry to hear you're struggling littleducks. I am at 17w today, and am suffering with similar things. The worst definitely being my headaches, and nothing I can take (paracetomol or codeine) will budge them. I knew that the first question from the midwife would be 'are you drinking enough?', so over the past few days I have made sure I drink 4 litres of water a day, but it hasn't made a difference.

My backache seems to be tucked up under my ribs at the back, and it sometimes comes around to the front just under my ribs as well (can be really very painful when it does). Is that the same for you?

Claphammama · 24/04/2013 10:13

Feel free to whinge littleducks - that's what we are here for! I also find this pregnancy much harder - was warned by all my friends that it would be. Right now I can feel another headache coming on... I continue to feel emotional and edgy although was hoping it would go away in the second trimester, and my feet are killing me at the end of each day (although I have a desk job). Hope it makes you feel better to know that you are not the only one feeling a bit grizzly and not glowing all the time!

Flyer747 · 24/04/2013 10:43

I'm with you all on the headaches it's been 2 days of a constant one and as someone else said paracetamols aren't even touching it!!

In other exciting news I have thrush too, lovely!!! Is cream or a pessary the best thing?

roxvox · 24/04/2013 10:48

Flyer747 I had it very early on in my PG and was told that cream and pessaries were fine, but to insert the pessary using your finger rather than the stick that comes with the combi pack, as this could be inserted too far. However I think some others have heard conflicting advice and have just been given the cream.

TheFalconsmistress · 24/04/2013 10:51

17+4 here and the headaches i get every other day but the back pain is horrific, Its is usually when her spine is next to mine i can tell because my tummy is softer at the front and the pain in my back is a b*h!

Tiredness and moods come and go I could have killed DP yesterday over not much. I think i am in for an easier day today feel good on waking anyhow :)

JellyCurls · 24/04/2013 11:23

17+2 here and have no idea where baby is lying so a big bit jealous of falcon for knowing where her baby is although after my first Doc being born back to back you can keep your back pains. No movements yet, no bump, no sickness, very few headaches.... Ho hum glad got all your symptoms ladies makes me feel more pregnant, thank youx

Warlin · 24/04/2013 11:24

Yay smitten fantastic news...all that worry for nothing. Now you can relax and enjoy (if that's possible) the rest of your pregnancy.

flyer good luck for the house...hope you get it.

I feel a bit better today but my god, yesterday I felt rough....headaches, tired and stomach cramps. Had me really worried but think my 5.30am starts, being stressed all day at work and not getting any early nights may have been to blame. Just feel I would love a couple of days at a spa getting massages and me time. really starting to worry now about how I'll cope with 2 babies and a puppy...DS1 is into everything and trying to walk....I can't take my eyes off him for a second and it's like wrestling a trout trying to get him bathed and dressed

Natalieand · 24/04/2013 11:34

falcon how many week/days were I when they said baby girl? In shared of paying £80 and saying sorry we can't see te sex yet lol ill be 16+2

Seems everyone is feeling similar ATM by the sounds of it I am also getting headaches an back ache I had a nose bleed in the night last night and have lost my voice for the last 4 days which is annoying!

roofio87 · 24/04/2013 11:39

ooooo, a couple of sleep suits I ordered have just arrived and they're so cute!!! you can so tell I'm a first time mum!! so glad that the two other women in my office don't have children cos they think all the stupid stuff I'm getting excited about is exciting too!!!Grin

TheFalconsmistress · 24/04/2013 11:45

I was 17 weeks natalie and she almost would not confirm never the very end of session we were lucky to get a few decent views to the point where she said she would be very surprised its a boy, but they never give you 100% with a girl with a boy if you google scans its obvious. I would wait a week more go nearer 17 something they was a girl before me that got told to come back and she was near 19 weeks but you dont have to pay for second scan with them. Who are you going though my best friend went at exactly 16 weeks and got a clear view of her girl I depends on the sonographer and the machine they use just be prepared for them not to be certain 100% xxx

roxvox · 24/04/2013 12:07

As horrible as it is for everyone having headaches, I am glad it's not just me! I tend to suffer with them regularly anyway and prior to TTC was on 120mg of Propranolol a day which generally helped to combat them (I came off them as I heard they can cause deformities in babies).
Except for the week that I got a BFP I have been relatively headache free and I thought that pregnancy was agreeing with me, but this last week or so they have come on pretty strong and nothing gets rid of them. I can't get my head comfortable in bed with them, and now that I am sat here in work I am really struggling with how light the office is. Not really sure what I can do about that short of wearing sunglasses in the office. I called in sick yesterday and spent all day in bed with the blind closed, but still the headache persisted.

Natalieand the scary thing is that they may not even be able to tell you at the 20 week scan, as it depends on how co-operative the baby is being! Like FalconsMistress said, I think some private places offer a second scan if they cannot see tell on your first visit (providing the scan you are going for is specifically designed to be for the purpose of finding out the sex. I.e. our local one has a scan package called 'The sexing scan' and they will offer you a second scan if the baby isn't in a good position to tell).

Smitten1981 · 24/04/2013 12:08

flyer Go to the docs, thrush is stubborn in pregnancy and mine still won't shift. It's been 2 months now!

Cream helps and pessaries are safe to use. I have 9 to use on consecutive days, am waiting till a week after the CVS though before I embark on the Canesten onslaught.

It's a right B*tch.

Umlauf · 24/04/2013 12:13

I keep having nosebleeds too natalie every night! Or rather a blocked nose and when I blow it the tissue is very bloody. Only one nostril though!

My back pain is still very pronounced but I'm learning which positions to avoid at work and home which is helping.

For headaches I find it helps to hand my head between my knees for a bit. It's a yoga move, not too long though or the back ache kicks in!

Trying not to whinge anymore though after my SILs news, shed bloody love some backache. Sad

What do movements feel like? I don't think I have had any but there s a pinching pain last night very low down, I was fantasising it was the baby although its probably just thrush

JellyCurls · 24/04/2013 12:19

umlauf with dc1 my first movements felt like the feeling you get when you go over a hill in the car with your eyes closed if this makes any sense. With dc2 it felt like bubbles popping inside and if dc3 ever decides to make itself known to me I will tell you what it feels like.

Natalieand · 24/04/2013 12:21

Thanks roxvox and falcon I already booked the scan yesterday for 16+2 they offer them from 16 weeks and the sca is specifically gender detection it says on the website something along the lines of 'if the baby isn't in a favourable position you may be asked to take a short walk around the local area or return for a second appt free of charge' I having the scan done with ultrasound direct better known as baby bond x

Natalieand · 24/04/2013 12:23

jelly I didn't recognise any early movements with dd the first time I felt her was literally a full on quick very low down just above the public hair area and then they just got stronger and more frequent from there I was in the staff room on a break at work an I could hardly believe what I had just felt I can't remember how many weeks I was tho lol

TheFalconsmistress · 24/04/2013 12:42

natalie baby bond is who my friend went with she found out at 16 weeks exactly xxxx

JellyCurls · 24/04/2013 12:43

natalie with dc1 first movements were during a very boring all day meeting and I really wanted to shout out to everyone but I wasn't showing and the client didn't know so I just sat there feeling all content not listening to a word anybody was saying. Guess I was about 19 weeks. With dc2 I was 16 weeks this is obviously a very lazy baby I got this time
