good luck orangeblossom! enjoy.

notsoold really good to hear that your children have such a strong bond. I will have the same age difference when this second one is born - 5 years. Was a bit worried that it was too much and they would have little in common (there are 4 years between myself and my sis and we grew up pretty much separately but then we are extremely different personalities). And I agree - the best thing is seeing how excited DS is - he keeps talking about the baby and kissing my tummy. So sweet

Haylebop12 · 17/04/2013 08:41

I will also have a big age gap. Dd will be 4.8 when baby arrives but I see it as a good thing. She is very keen to help and be involved so I think fetching things etc she will be able to do. She can also make her own cereal and squash Grin and she will be full time school come sept. I see this as I've timed things pretty well tbh!

Haylebop12 · 17/04/2013 08:42

Good luck today orange

Wickedgirl · 17/04/2013 08:54

I have a huge age gap. If this baby is a girl, it will share with my DD who will be almost 15!

If its a boy it will share with a 9 and a half year old

I hope my body remembers how to give birth after so long

JellyCurls · 17/04/2013 09:18

Good luck today orange

I have16wk appointment this afternoon and feel strangely nervous. Already slept in this morning and left house without my notes so days not off to a great start. My bump has gone again and back to my normal per preg clothes.

Hope everyone else is feeling super x

roxvox · 17/04/2013 09:30

Jellycurls I think we might be living parallel lives! I too have my 16w appointment this afternoon, am feeling very nervous, will have to pop home to get my notes before the appt, and I was just thinking this morning how my bump seems to have reduced massively so it must have just been bloat!

Really not sure what to expect from the MW appt. I have loads of questions for her (including 'Why didn't they measure the nuchal fold?' and 'Can you pleeeaaase use the doppler?') but I get this feeling that I am going to leave the appointment quite deflated.

Good luck today Orange!

Haylebop12 · 17/04/2013 09:30

Ok you win wicked Grin

notsoold · 17/04/2013 09:33

Wicked... You are in my team girl!!! How are your dcs reacting??? The gap now between dc1 ( dd) to this lo will be 19 years and to dc2(ds) will be 14. Both are over the moon and my ds is carring anything that weighs more than a pound as " Mum you are carrying my little mate".
Dd is so happy they adopted a kitten in lieu of a baby( I know...really not the same but they already have a cat and are very responsible in their little flat).

And now on the 12 week ms started and I am as sick as a dog....vom yesterday and today ....

Good luck jelly !! Xxx

carliepow · 17/04/2013 09:48

Good luck orange!

I also have 16 week appointment today and am nervous too!! Really want to hear the heartbeat, can they definitely hear it now?

Good luck Jelly and Roxvox.

BowlFullofJelly · 17/04/2013 09:49

Good luck ladies with appointments today. I think the 16 week appointment is a let down from what I recall - seem to remember waiting over an hour for my appointment, and being in and out within 10 minutes. Think they give you results of blood test, test urine - and that's pretty much it! Have mine tomorrow, but have a student midwife assigned to me who wants to 'have a proper chat about how things are going'. Not sure what there is to say to be honest Confused.

How do you guys with VERY big age gaps feel about doing it all over again? Must be strange (but lovely) to have independent teenagers and a helpless little bubba on the way! My age gap will be 2 years 9 months - and quite frankly am bricking it about having a baby and a spirited toddler to cope with.

Oh and Natalie, mine will be sharing a room as well, and I'm not remotely concerned about it. My family all tend to have 3 kids, and not very big houses, so sharing rooms is very much the norm for me. We want to move to a bigger place, but really not going to stress about it for the next couple of years Smile

HotSoupDumpling · 17/04/2013 09:50

Good luck for those with scans/appointments today! Had a free 5 second scan when I went to see the consultant recently.

Don't worry notsoold I'm also still feeling sick and have got worse as the first trimester ended - vomming more often. Muh. Jealous of those who have reached the glowing stage!!

TheFalconsmistress · 17/04/2013 10:00

Morning!

Good luck to those who have 16 week appointments at mine last week my bump went to a pile of mush turns out its just because there spine was against mine, also the reason i have severe back pain!

I have my sexing scan in 3 days really excited about it! I am pretty sure its my little Willow in here but im open to a surprise :)

Umlauf · 17/04/2013 10:05

Hello again ladies! This thread seems to be going a bit slower than the others did. Do you think now we have started telling people in rl we are less chatty?!

Good luck to all the appointments today! The 20 week ones will be here before we know it! I have my 18 week midwife appointment next Friday (no 16wk) and am going to demand a tour of the hospital. It's not done here, but I think it will really help me to have seen it.

Age gaps! I keep threatening to have my tubes tied, but if we do have another it will have a loooonnnnnggg age gap! I'm not doing this again in a hurry!

I'm not taking to pregnancy well. I feel a bit repulsed by my belly, haven't bought or even thought about buying anything, am still experiencing severe back pain though that might not be helping. I'm looking forward to seeing the gender though for bondings sake. Ill be taking a year off work but as I'm not entitled to any maternity pay or SMP or even child benefit at all, I'm panicking a lot tbh.

HotSoupDumpling · 17/04/2013 10:39

Umlauf - I'm going to be a SAHM with no mat pay/benefit etc, relying solely on DH - PM me if you need anyone to discuss it with, as I understand it is a bit scary!

pinkbuttons · 17/04/2013 11:14

Good Luck to all with appts and scans today.
we have our research scan this afternoom and am really nervous.
still havent put on any weight and am worried about babies growth as had definitely put on at least 5lbs with DS.

natalie I just wanted to send my support like everyone else. I cant say whether or not your depressed but I have had some of the same worries as you including if Im doing the right thing by DS. I love our time together and dont want him to miss out but I also want him to have a sibling and get all the jpy and benefits of that. It a relief for me to hear some peoples thoughts on here, i have been worrying about loving this baby as much as DS but didnt feel able to speak to anyone in RL about it because I didnt know if it was an awful thing to think...

roofio87 · 17/04/2013 11:24

good luck to everyone with scans and appointments today!!
after ringing about a hundred times and fighting with the drs receptionists to get my 16w mw appointment I spoke to a lovely one this morning who fitted me in on Tuesday morning next weekSmile
got an appointment at the hospital for anti d injections (I'm o negative) have looked it up and don't understand it at all, but will just go with it!! anyone else had/having this?
hope you're feeling a bit better today Natalie always feel free to come here and tells us how you really feel,it might help!! Im panicing a bit about how this first baby is going to change my life and relationship!!

Umlauf · 17/04/2013 12:07

Thanks hotsoup that's really kind!

pinkbuttons every person ever says how two pregnancies are never the same so I am sure that this one is absolutely fine. It must feel natural to compare the two but don't fret too much, 5lbs isn't too much in the grand scheme of it!

natalie hope you're feeling better today (just read back). I'd definitely ask the midwife about depression just in case, as its better to sort these things sooner than later. There is no way you are a bad mother, lots of siblings share and love it. I had my own room but my sister would move her bed in and we'd refuse to sleep apart! My baby won't even have a room we don't think and is going to have to put up with a screen in the Lounge for a bit when we move him out of our room as we just can't afford anything bigger - I don't think ill be a crap mother, just an impoverished one! The baby is lucky to have you and your dh, and a gorgeous big sister and live in a really good country and your dd will love having a sibling!!

Umlauf · 17/04/2013 12:08

Oh, and can you all talk to me about BOOBS please?!

Mine have gone up 3 sizes. I've just bought a bikini from m&s in size 12 bottoms and a size 20 top. Thank god for separates!

Really worried ill be sized out of nursing bras! I used to work for bravissimo so I know the biggest size available anywhere and its only 4 sizes bigger than what I am now!

Do they go back down!? Ever???!

Slippysnow · 17/04/2013 12:38

Hi everyone!

First of all, good luck to anybody with appointments. umlauf my boobs were originally 32E and at 12+ 5 I'm going to start looking into maternity bras as my regular boring underworked t shirt bras are beginning to get painful, but my boobs having grown noticeably bigger (I'm surprised). The nipples killed me for weeks. It was my first symptom.

Now I have some silly first mum queries for anyone who has any experience, knowledge or expertise.

I think I have said before that I would like to buy a baby jogger city mini gt. we walk the dog alot over grass and would love to take baby with us. Now I keep on reading the benefits of new borns lying flat due to developing organs and bones. Fine- solution flat lying carry cot addition. However, I'm confused about slings?! I was also thinking of the possibility of using a baby Bjorne carrier- the baby won't be flat in this? Am I missing something as loads of mums use carriers/slings rather than flat prams.

This also brings me on to car seats, again they are not flat in these. I know you aren't meant to have young babies in them for more than two hours but on the rare occasion (which is unlikely to arise) that I would travel long distance if you had a break between the two hours is it then safe. Especially as a one off? Also- why do travel systems recommend the car seat adapters for new born if they are not truly considered the best?

And breath.

Claphammama · 17/04/2013 12:39

Yes, they go down after you stop breastfeeding... trust me. Most if not all of them. And trust me - you will miss having them then! LOL

Slippysnow · 17/04/2013 12:41

**boring underwired t shirt bras are beginning to get painful, but my boobs havent grown noticeably bigger

Claphammama · 17/04/2013 12:49

"slippysnow" - I was told (at my baby clinic if I remember correctly...) that a baby should never 'not be flat' for longer than 45 minutes. So it's OK to use the car seat, slings or baby bjorne for up to 45min. I tried to keep DS as flat as possible, especially in the first months when their their spine and bones are still so soft. I'm pretty sure some one offs will be OK though. We had some occasions when he was in a car seat for 2 or even 3 hours - I was stressing about it though :-) Worth asking someone professional when you have a chance. I'm planning to keep this one as fat as possible too. I reckon - why risk... but they are resilient little things.

Claphammama · 17/04/2013 12:50

correction! I meant "I'm planning to keep this one as FLAT as possible", definitely not as FAT as possible!

Wickedgirl · 17/04/2013 12:51

Notsoold......my eldest and youngest seem to be the most excited and the middle one is happy but is always very quiet. He is very good with babies and young children though so I know that he'll be fine too.

My eldest and youngest are arguing over who gets the baby in with them......my dd says she has waited the longest so she should get the baby and the youngest says he has more space in his room so he should get the baby. Still it's better that way than them all saying that none of then want the baby in with them

Bowlfullofjelly........I have worked in childcare my entire working life so am used to juggling lots of children and lots of age groups so that will be fine. I am more tired this time around but I think that anyone who works and is pregnant with their 4th baby will be more tired. I have worked a lot over the last 5 years as a night nanny and doula so having another tiny baby (that is actually my own) is very exciting.

Roofio..........I am B- so I too will be having anti d jabs through pregnancy and after having the baby. They really hurt(sorry!) but if they help me to keep the baby safe then who cares? They also help to safeguard any future pregnancies too.

I hope that everyone's appointments go well today

Natalieand · 17/04/2013 12:52

Thanks for everyone's support I'm not seeing my midwife for a few weeks now but I'm seeing the consultant Friday do u think its worth mentioning my concerns to her?

slippy I have purchased the carry cot addition to my babystyle oyster buggy but only cos I felt the seat unit didn't lay back anywhere near enough where as in my opinion some seat units lay back plenty for a new born. I'm not sure what the seat unit is like in the buggy you are thinking of though, with regards too car seats I think the two hour rule is just a guideline as some ppl drive where there and everywhere with the baby in the seat then just attach the car seat to the buggy frame and that would be no good long term but I think for an occasional long drive (on holiday/too family/days out etc it will be perfectly acceptable to have them in the car seat a little longer plus when they r teeny chances r u will be stopping to do feeds etc anyway hope this helps xxx
