Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MotherOfCleo · 14/04/2013 12:07

yeah alex it was so painful, mine was down rather than up iyswim Blush so so painful, felt like stabbing pains. Id had it before so knew what it was but geez it was a killer. Cant believe a little bit of gas can hurt so much! My OH just kept saying well go to the loo or fart or something....if only it was that easy! Had to go to sleep with 2 hotty bottys and was still in pain all night. Im an attractive beast at the moment I really am. On the plus side my big bloated belly is a bit smaller today, only a bit though.

Cavort · 14/04/2013 12:38

Hola from my sun lounger! Grin

Glad you're ok Janey and that your lovely drugs are working Purple

My fingers and toes swelled up a bit on the flight - not quite shrek-like but enough to make sandals and rings a bit tight. I wore flight socks and drank loads so a bit frustrating. Oh well.

And I seem to be developing one of those lines down the middle if my belly, which I don't know is related to sun exposure or not? I have complete sun block on but it's still coming Angry

On a positive note, baby seems to be very active in the sun and DH and I are finding it very amusing watching my belly contort into varying shapes. I don't think she has experienced light before as my belly is always covered up.

janey1234 · 14/04/2013 13:33

Cavort I've had one of those lines for ages SadHate it. Apparently they go soon enough but I really don't like it at all... Very jealous of you on a sun lounger!!

Argh to trapped wind, I had it last weekend purple and every time I moved in the night it woke me up, and it hurt so much to even touch my belly. Hope it eases soon - apparently peppermint is the way forward - so maybe try a fresh mint tea or something?

HazleNutt · 14/04/2013 18:38

It suddenly got really warm here as well, we spent the whole day walking with the dogs and I actually got a bit sunburned!
Have to say that I must be really lucky with how little issues I've had so far - some friends who had a baby recently were concerned if I am indeed able to walk for more than an hour - guess not all pregnant women can?

Cavort apparently tanning can intensify the line, but it will still disappear afterwards, so nothing to worry about.

janey1234 · 15/04/2013 09:17

I think I've been pretty lucky too Hazle - I guess that skipping the whole morning sickness thing definitely made it easier! But I have to say, even at two weeks behind you, I can really tell I'm pregnant now. I definitely walk more slowly to the tube for one thing. I could definitely still walk for over an hour, but to be honest, it would have to be pretty slowly!

Just thinking about doing a baby first aid course. Can't remember if we've all chatted about this - but is anyone else doing any courses? Or have any of you done them that you could recommend?

HazleNutt · 15/04/2013 11:08

I'm doing one that should cover first aid and also common childhood illnesses, first class next week.

HazleNutt · 15/04/2013 11:43

Grr. Well, feeling fine and thinking everybody is being considerate might change now. Just had a meeting and one of the guys, sitting next to me kept sniffing and sneezing. I thought it was just allergies, then he helpfully explains that his whole department is sick with flu and he will try to go see his doctor in the afternoon.
He knew very well that I'm pregnant and could have easily cancelled the meeting, or called instead. I'll bloody kill him if I get sick now, as you can't take anything when pregnant either and even an average cold is a torture. Angry

janey1234 · 15/04/2013 12:01

I just don't get why people are so selfish?! You're more prone to catch illnesses in the first place, and then can't take bloody anything once you are ill, so they should just stay away. Damn annoying people. I've been pretty pointed about staying away from infected people in the office.

So who's jealous on this lovely monday morning of cavort lying by a pool whilst we're all at work?! Envy

Alexandra6 · 15/04/2013 12:04

That is annoying hazle, my boss was really ill a couple of weeks ago and I kept nagging her to go home rather than spread it round the office! I've come down with a cold over the weekend, am sitting at my desk sniffling and feeling sick - double whammy!

BraveLilBear · 15/04/2013 12:06

How selfish Hazle I think men simply don't have a clue in general, and where pregnant women are concerned, they know even less (ie about the harm that colds and flu can do when you can't medicate).

I'll never forget my ex working through what turned out to be swineflu. He passed it on to three members of his team and me - and I ended up quite poorly with it while he was away, working. Very glad he is ex.

Glad you're ok Janey and have everything crossed for Purple's magic pills. Very jealous at your sunbed action Cavort... went to the seaside yesterday with our prgenant friends (she's four weeks ahead and huge next to me) and it hit home how difficult it gets... I was fine walking around for ages (though totally exhausted when we got home) but she struggled after a while and was aching all over.

Mother triple ouch at trapped wind. And newsflash, I think the painful braxton hicks I had last week might actually have been a dehydration contraction - ie a spasm on the side of the bump caused by not drinking enough water. Dr Google says these are incredibly ouchsome, and in some cases more so than labour. That made me feel a lot better - and a lot more inclined to drink water!

Had a breakfast meeting this morning which was entertaining as Baby Bear was having a total party! Least that was a distraction after being thoroughly put on the spot by the divisional boss about our team - my boss is unavailable today and other colleague only part-time so had to ramp up the diplomacy.

Hey ho Grin

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 15/04/2013 12:29

I'm still pissed off. OK, if you don't have kids you might not know that most medication is off limits when pregnant. But even then, the thought that getting sick when pregnant is probably not advised, might enter your tiny little head Angry Hmm

But the weather is nice and warm and I have a lovely business dinner to look forward to in a lovely restaurant I could choose. They certainly know the 3 secrets of French cooking there - butter, butter and butter!

janey1234 · 15/04/2013 12:37

Exactly hazle. It's not exactly rocket science that a preggers woman might not want to get ill...

Ooh, is all glamour here. Baby just moved, and I think he/she must be high up as I was immediately a little bit sick in the back of my mouth, then started choking on it. Just as my boss walked past - he obviously stopped out of concern but I couldn't get a word out. Lovely hey. Not as good as cavort's garden-vom, obviously, but thought I'd mention it nevertheless.

Purplemonster · 15/04/2013 13:29

I got Janey and Hazle's share of the pregnancy illnesses Wink
Day 4 of the magic pills. Still itchy. Not quite so 'I'm going to be mentally ill soon if I don't stop itching' but still really rather bloody itchy. Not fun.
Hope you don't catch the man flu germs Hazle. It constantly amazes me how many idiots roam the earth.
Oooh, something I HAVEN'T got though, my stomach doesn't have a line yet and I haven't got trapped wind, so let's count today as a success Grin

MotherOfCleo · 15/04/2013 13:32

Hummm nice janey at least you didnt have to explain. Hmm

Hazel that sucks, what a total nob! Angry

Brave that doesnt sound fun! Makes note to never dehydrate!

I dont know whats wrong with mw lately, up to 10 weeks-ish I felt fine, but the last week I have been so tired and nauseous! Sad I had a 2 hour nap on Saturday and I honestly thought it was like 15/20 mins....crazy. The sicky feeling is driving me mad, I feel better once Ive eaten but when I try to eat I just feel so icky, food just tastes awful. Please tell me this ends soon! I thought things got better as you approach 12 weeks, not worse! Blush

MotherOfCleo · 15/04/2013 13:33

sorry cross post purple glad you're less itchy! Yay to the no trapped wind too! Wink

BraveLilBear · 15/04/2013 14:04

Oh Mother poor you! Ms is one of those things - no-one quite gets it the same as anyone else. Most people see an improvement by 12-16 weeks (and I did) but have had the occasional ms flashback as recently as three weeks ago (now 26 btw). Some poor souls get it all the way through.

When it gets to this stage, just eat whatever it is you fancy - and it will change at least daily, sometimes more than that. Whatever you fancy is usually what your body wants. Even haribo and pringles And baby gets priority, too, so even if you feel like pants, it takes a very long time before it affects baby.

Just been to a meeting with some high-profile external partners and the two other women, neither of whom I'd met before, immediately started talking about my bump! It felt weird and uncomfortable but was nice at the same time. They were both mothers and were quite excited for me. I think I'm finding that mums seem to be the most excitable and encouraging - and it does feel like I'm entering into some new 'club'.

Sympathy to your kick-vom Janey that is pretty grim. Baby Bear has started honing its aim onto my bladder - I have a feeling this might indicate that placenta has moved away a bit, thereby exposing it to kickery - but last night I woke up honestly thinking I was about to wet myself. Was just a well-placed kick on a medium-full bladder. Twice.

Alexandra6 · 15/04/2013 14:20

All my body wants right now is rubbish - cheese, pastry, pizza - it's funny as I'm usually so healthy! I'm forcing myself to eat some fruit, but weirdly veg just makes me feel really nauseous, I have to hide it in my food like you do for children! Also, my appetite has gone for big meals and all I can do is snack, which makes going to restaurants tough! I wonder why our bodies crave crap when we need to be at our healthiest?! No wonder I've caught a nasty cold! (a cold isn't bad for baby is it??)

Poor you with the vom janey!! I dry retched on the tube this morning by accident (nice) - on the bright side it drew attention to my baby on board badge and someone gave me their seat Wink

janey1234 · 15/04/2013 15:16

Hat to say this alex but think it's pretty normal for the first 12 weeks to just eat crap. I'm marginally better now, but whilst I didn't have morning sickness, I did find it hard to eat anything that wasn't beige for the first three months!

MotherOfCleo · 15/04/2013 15:35

Yep alex I also went through a beige food stage, which did not help with me feeling like a bloated whale. Now I can't really stomach anything.....apart from crisps....I am going to get so fat at this rate! I have just eaten a rather nice apple though, might treat myself to another one. My OH is also moaning that we aren't DTD enough, but seriously I am either, tired, nauseous, grouchy, or feeling like a very unattractive fat blob....also my boobs are beyond sore so if he touches them I want to rip his arm off and hit him with it. Doesn't really lead to me wanting to pounce or be pounced on.

Alexandra6 · 15/04/2013 16:00

Are we the only couple who have written off dtd-ing for the pregnancy?! Blush We're too scared of doing damage and knocking my cervix around! A friend of mine laughed when I told her that and said she's sure DH is very well endowed but maybe flattering himself a bit there Wink She says it's fine - but to be honest, it's hardly sexy to be worrying about doing damage - even if it is irrational!

Purplemonster · 15/04/2013 16:03

Yes to eating whatever beige crap you can stomach, I think we pretty much all went through that phase, it does seem to pass, if crisps are all you want to eat, eat crisps, it's better than nothing.
Also, far far TMI but after what must be approaching 12 weeks of OH showing no interest in me whatsoever, we DTD last night. I'm well aware you REALLY don't need to know this but seriously, it's not like I can tell anyone in RL is it!

BraveLilBear · 15/04/2013 16:54

Lol Purple that's the beauty of this place, we appreciate these facts even if everyone in RL would add you to their 'weird' list with such info!

I am mildly envious. I am rather ahem, up for DTD a lot at the moment, OH really isn't. I think I've always had a slightly higher libido but this is ridiculous, I can't even resort to my go-to tactics as quite frankly the nice undies no longer fit, and they really don't have the same effect when bookending a huge belly (which I actually find quite sexy, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't!).

Doesn't help that I'm now getting so tired that my efforts at initiating the deed are a bit half hearted - all I want is for him to voluntary touch me (Not even necessarily in a sexy way!) let alone properly jump me. I've even tried having a conversation about it, but that didn't get very far Sad

Alex it should be fine to carry on DTD but if you've had treatments on the cervix it might be wise to lay off the full shebang for the first 12 weeks at least, and then get some reassurance from midwives. Doesn't mean you can't do other things though...

Before being pg I used to eat a bowl of soup and a bagel every day for my lunch and that was it. Early pg days, found myself eating more substantially and avoiding all acids, then went off pretty much all food for ages, then lived on bread, toast, pringles, strawberry cream pencils, coke... then one day my appetite returned and all I tend to want now is fresh fruit and veg and fruity things.

I felt terrible living on pringles and sweets for a time, but it didn't last that long and now I'm actively hunting fresh tasty healthy things.

OP posts:
Cavort · 15/04/2013 21:38

Evenin' all, be jealous no longer Janey as I am home, knackered, and have an unattractive light brown line dividing me into two halves Confused ....but other than that, all is well. Smile

I wish someone would make a sun longer with a cut out for a pregnant belly so I could lie on my front for a while though. I couldn't really lie on my back for long periods with the weight of a bowling ball in my midriff so getting comfy in the sun was a bit of a challenge. I can't see it being too much of a problem in the British Summer though.

To those of you who are 27+ weeks (I thinks that's when baby's eyes can open?) I would highly recommend shining a torch at your bump or some other way of exposing your stomach to light to see the baby's reaction. In sunlight my belly was throwing shapes I didn't think possible!

Sorry to hear about your MS suffering Mother and Alex. I know it doesn't seem like it will at the time but it honestly does get better past 12 weeks.

As for pregnancy sex, I am very jealous of those of you having a horny pregnancy as I have completely lost my mojo. I would quite frankly rather have a cup of tea and a nap, which is very unlike me normally. I have been, ahem, stepping up to the mark a few times a week as I feel sorry for DH and I feel complemented that he still seems to fancy me in my new whale-like form, but it definitely takes much longer to start the engine these days! Alex there aren't any rules about it so you should just do what you both feel comfortable with and if that's abstinence then it's fine. You're not going to relax and enjoy it if you're worried and there are loads of other ways to maintain intimacy.

Congratulations on breaking your 12 week duck Purple Grin

HazleNutt · 16/04/2013 10:04

This is getting a bit odd now. Absolutely everybody keeps telling me how pregnancy really suits me, how much energy I seem to have, how I'm positively glowing and how good I look. Nice, of course.

But the things is that I saw a pic taken of me this weekend when I wasn't looking and posing from a correct angle. I look horrible! Elephant. WeightWatchers "before" picture. Double chins and all.

So either people just compliment all pregnant women by default, no matter what they look like, or I didn't look that great as I imagined before getting pregnant either. Hmm.

BraveLilBear · 16/04/2013 10:44

I bet you look pretty good Hazle - people won't say anything if you look rough, more like to say, how you doing or revert to inane bump questions re size, weight, colour, activity.

I've been getting some nice compliments, too, and it perpetually surprises me. I'm now getting hot quite quickly so tend to have a blush on most of the time, which I'm sure helps.

Only thing is, I'd love it if OH gave me some nice attention he is getting appropriately worried about me as in, urging me to use the bus more (even offering to pay - shock) as I'm getting tired quicker and 2 miles each way is getting harder.

So I say enjoy it, if they're lying, they're lying - who cares! Plus, everyone looks fab if they smile, so smiling at a random lie compliment would surely have the same effect! Grin
