Mind you, it is a shame the magic drugs don't cure heartburn as well (I'm finding even Gaviscon doesn't touch it) but you can't have it all Grin

janey1234 · 12/04/2013 14:42

Oh purple, so glad you've got something for it. Hope that it starts to work quickly. So they don't know if it's OC or some other liver condition yet? Either way, if they can give you actual, real drugs to help you, that's got to be a good thing?

Alexandra6 · 12/04/2013 15:26

That's great they've got something you can treat it with purple, really hope it eases off quickly.

I also love drugs and the NHS since clomid got me knocked up at last! Wink

BraveLilBear · 12/04/2013 16:24

Yay to NHS magic drugs! Really hope they come good Purple. Shame about the heartburn though. If mine gets to a point where Gaviscon doesn't work I will actually cry!

Meanwhile, just bumped into a colleague back from mat leave after having her baby the same week that mine's due this year (but she obvs had hers last year). Was fab to see her but she said something really interesting and a bit disturbing - apparently, some people are booking up nursery places as soon as the 20-week scan! Arrrrghhh!

Has anyone here been that scarily organised?

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 12/04/2013 16:46

Oh yes, nursery booked a long time ago. Over here, due to the mat leave being so much shorter, I've heard about people booking places before they start TTC! Shock

Alexandra6 · 12/04/2013 16:52

What, booking places already! Thank god you said that brave, I'll remember to look into that - what age do they go to nursery and for how many years? Is that free state nursery? I really don't know anything do I

Purplemonster · 12/04/2013 17:38

It really depends where you live, there's absolutely no need to book nursery places in advance where I live but it will all depend if your area.
The free nursery places aren't until the term after your child's third birthday Alex so you shouldn't need to worry about that for a while but if you're going back to work quite quickly it's worth looking into childcare soon ish as baby rooms can be quite busy. Phone your local family information service and they can give you a list if what is available in your area, either google it or tell me which local authority you're in and I can give you the right phone number for where you live.

Alexandra6 · 12/04/2013 17:51

Thanks purple I was thinking about work and what to do - not sure if I can afford to go back, as childcare sounds very expensive so I'll need to see if I make enough to cover it plus decent profit. I'll def take the first year off. Will look into the local family info service.

Purplemonster · 12/04/2013 19:16

If you're not going back to work for a year you probably don't need to worry about childcare just yet. This website will give you the details of your local FIS though findyourfis.daycaretrust.org.uk/kb5/findyourfis/home.page

janey1234 · 12/04/2013 20:27

I've just had a look alex, and the nursery near me costs around £15k per year for full time. I guess that means you'd need to earn around £22k before tax to break even. I might have got the costs wrong, but think I've read it correctly. An expensive business if you have two hey!

Alexandra6 · 12/04/2013 20:56

It's so expensive isn't it, you can see how some people really struggle. I was thinking, depending what happens with my company, I could maybe go back part time and maybe MIL will offer to babysit one day a week and maybe a childminder for the other 2 days (cheaper than nursery). We'll see though, one bridge at a time!

Alexandra6 · 12/04/2013 20:57

How many times can I say maybe? Wink

janey1234 · 12/04/2013 21:28

Is a childminder cheaper? I had no idea, assumed they were more. I too know nothing but MAYBE you have a plan there alex Wink

I'm off to hospital. Rang nhs direct as I still feel sick, and due to that, blood pressure last time and i had protein in my urine, and the fact my ankles are swollen today they want me to go in for checks. Kind of wish I hadn't called as I know it will be a waste of time! Appt at 10.10pm on a Friday night, that will be a joy...Sad

HazleNutt · 12/04/2013 21:37

Ouch. better get yourself checked out, just in case. But true, not the most fun one could have on a Friday..

Alexandra6 · 12/04/2013 21:38

Ah babe poor you, good luck, am sure they're being cautious but am glad you're going to be on the safe side. Are you feeling a bit better sick-wise or same as last night? Txt me and keep me posted even if it's late, I know I'll worry otherwise (DH is out on the piss so I'll get woken up later anyway!!) Yes Friday night a&e Sad hope it's too early for the drinking accidents so you don't have to wait long xxx

Alexandra6 · 12/04/2013 21:42

Oh hang on just realised you said app, so not a&e? That's good they can do apps at this time x

Purplemonster · 12/04/2013 22:24

Oh no hope you're ok Janey. If any of you have any childcare related questions, I'm your girl, it's sort of my area of expertise. Costs are a bit dependent on region though.

Alexandra6 · 12/04/2013 22:45

Do you do childcare purple or do you mean you use it? Or just know lots about it? Just wondered as a friend of mine is training to be a childminder so she can earn money whilst bringing up her own, her dream is to own and manage a nursery.

Purplemonster · 12/04/2013 22:56

It's part of my job to know about it Grin I wouldn't want to work in childcare though. I can't think of many jobs where you have to work so many hours and do so much training for such low wages.

janey1234 · 13/04/2013 00:08

Back home. Blood pressure same as last time (bit high but not too awful) and the swelling still there. He said to keep an eye on that, and if it gets worse to go back. Equally if I start being sick again or having blurred vision to call 999. Nice. Thankfully very unlikely I think! Given me some medicine for acid reflux thank goodness. Told me i had absolutely done the right thing going in, and to do the same again, and was really sweet and kept congratulating us on our pregnancy. Love the nhs. Although a&e on a Friday night in pikey east london was certainly an eye opener!!

Purplemonster · 13/04/2013 10:53

Glad you're ok Janey.

janey1234 · 13/04/2013 11:28

How are you today purple? Did you sleep?

Purplemonster · 13/04/2013 12:06

Yeah not too bad thanks, itchy, scratchy but holding out hope for these tablets and I did sleep so it could be worse. Sorry you're falling to bits too, not too much longer to go now in the grand scheme of things though and I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end. You'll have to let me know if that acid reflux med works so I can go and cry at my midwife until they give me some Wink

MotherOfCleo · 14/04/2013 10:31

tmi....I had trapped wind last night (attractive huh) now I know why babies cry about it! God its agony! I didnt know what to do with myself.

Alexandra6 · 14/04/2013 11:38

mother I think that's what I had last Monday night, lasted all night and was so bad I was moaning and crying :( Even called NHS direct and nearly went to A&E! Was yours that bad? Am hoping that's what mine was, it was quite high in the stomach and achey but really sharp pains in waves. Haven't been in that pain since so trying not to worry about ectopic etc. I kept trying to burp all night in case it was wind, NOT attractive, DH was trying not to laugh because he could see how much pain I was in!
