She is gorgeous littlemiss! And looks great with her bump (I know her in real life so can vouch for it!)

littlemiss I've got a bump already! Shock Mother in law pointed it out the other day - she's right though! Think it's just swelling though as I'm only 7 weeks tomorrow.

janey1234 · 10/04/2013 16:23

Oh hazle, between you and cavort I now have the fear of sweeps. I think my perception has been distorted by my DSIL and friend who both said they were absolutely fine, and not painful just uncomfortable. It would seem they're in the minority.

Littlemiss - felt fat from pretty early on. Had to stop wearing lots of my normal clothes from about 12 weeks (as didn't tell work until 14 weeks, and just looked porky) but didn't really 'pop' until around 20-21 weeks, when it suddenly looked MUCH bigger.

janey1234 · 10/04/2013 16:24

Cross post Alex/Hazle.

Yes, lots of bloat from very early days as per Alex. Proper preggers bump at about 5 months/20 weeks as Hazle said.

BraveLilBear · 10/04/2013 16:29

Welcome, congrats and sympathies LittleMiss may be worth trying suppository route if things are that bad? (Ask a pharmacist!)

Hazle may well try that tbh. Will also email pg yoga teacher to see if there are particular exercises I could just avoid or if everything is 'risky'.

Also agree regarding the real 'information' versus real life experience thing. If I read one more reference to the use of forceps as a 'gentle tug' I will personally burn off DVD copied of the many contradictory OBEM examples and hand-deliver them to the NHS writers that authored them!

Am glad your colleague was talking months not babies. Lol Grin Open season has begun here. I am literally getting daily updates from my colleagues. I think they think I keep forgetting... Wink

Littlemiss I was flat to 16 weeks, started getting fat around then, then bump popped out at 21 weeks...

janey I'm sure a lot of women do in fact find it just uncomfortable. I would like to be informed though that it can be more than that, so I know what to expect and can tell them to take it easy and stop if needed. And not expect a mild discomfort and then jump to the ceiling because of surprise! agonizing pain.

littlemiss now that I think about it, I got my first maternity trousers around 12 weeks, was definitely bigger and bloated, but nobody guessed. Started suddenly looking pregnant around 22-23 weeks (during holidays, arrived bloated, went home with a bump).

janey1234 · 10/04/2013 16:34

Talking of which cavort are you showing more now? Or do I still need to be Envy of how bloody trim and neat you are?!

HazleNutt · 10/04/2013 16:36

snort at "gentle tug". NHS would probably describe shark biting your leg off as "might feel a tiny pinch".

BraveLilBear · 10/04/2013 16:44

I love the NHS but do think it may be secretly sadistic... mentioned to one of my dad's newly-qualified nurse friends that I'd had op under GA on giant abscess in early pregnancy and she said 'oh but they must have given you morphine for the pain'. She looked horrified when I said, nope, was only allowed paracetamol and one dose of cocodamol.

Baby Bear is kicking up a storm today - think it may be either that it's been off growing some steel-strength leg muscles for the last couple of days and is now showing them off, or is hearing me and my colleagues ranting in the office - have been on my own for two weeks at work due to holidays so I bet all that noise must be somehting of a shock!

OP posts:
janey1234 · 10/04/2013 17:00

To be fair hazle the NHS do advise you to take paracetamol to take the edge off contractions. I think we all know that will do bugger all!

BraveLilBear · 10/04/2013 17:32

C'mon Janey didn't you know that two paracetamol and a patronising pat on the head makes it all fine Wink

Hey guys, so I don't want to sound like a drama queen but I do seem to be lurching from one minor disaster to another at the moment with this pregnancy lark. The latest is I've got suspected cholestasis or however you spell it. That's the thing where you get all itchy and it means your liver has decided not to work properly anymore. Don't bloody google it for christ sake, it says the word 'stillbirth' about three times in every sentence. And that's on the NHS site.

janey1234 · 10/04/2013 18:47

Oh purple, I've heard of that - mainly because my legs have been itching like mad so I consulted Dr.Google. Thankfully for me the itching seems to have passed. Are you having blood tests for it? Is it mainly your feet and hands?
I know it sound scary but from what I remember I think it can be managed ok?
Really hope you're ok

Purplemonster · 10/04/2013 18:57

Yeah mostly palms of hands and soles of feet but then sort if spreading all over but this is not just itching, oh no, it's not even M&S itching, this is like being eaten alive by fire ants. I've had NO sleep for two nights in a row because of this 'itching' which frankly does not seem an adequate word and it seems that there is nothing they can do
Phoned midwife to say I'd got the symptoms today when I got to work but explained I had a midwife appt tomorrow afternoon anyway and was told to immediately drive the half an hour home again because the blood test couldn't wait until tomorrow...so I guess they take it pretty seriously? She came to my house and everything (not ideal when you've been ill for days and weren't expecting visitors...hope she doesn't phone social services) sounds from NHS website like they don't manage it just monitor it and whip the baby out by section if they have to? Midwife was in too much of a rush to really give me any info just said they'll ring me with the results.

HazleNutt · 10/04/2013 19:12

oh Purple that's scary, hope there are some other options still besides whipping baby out.

janey1234 · 10/04/2013 19:14

Oh purple. Poor poor you. I have to say when my itching was driving me mad I read about OC itching and it sounds like a whole new level. It seems pretty common for it to stop you sleeping. I'm so sorry.

Also sounds like a slightly early elcs is pretty common. But I'm sure that will be fine. Just sounds as if the next few months will be really hard with lots of scratching SadSad

Sending you Thanks and hugs. Fingers crossed it's not and is just a coincidence re hands and feet. But if it is you WILL get through it and everything will be ok in the end xx

Alexandra6 · 10/04/2013 19:22

Flowers purple, I really feel for you, sounds really difficult especially with it happening at night too and stopping you sleeping Sad At least they're monitoring you. Really hope it gets better or it's not that.

Purplemonster · 10/04/2013 19:25

Thank you! I'm keeping my chin up at the moment but I do feel a bit like it has been one thing after another and that surely nothing else can go wrong! I could really really do with some sleep though.

HazleNutt · 10/04/2013 21:49

Purple at least the MW took you seriously and hopefully will be able to come back with some useful advice. Fx, poor you!

Cavort · 10/04/2013 21:58

Evenin' all! I'm just back from a Speed Awareness Course to stop me getting 3 points for getting caught speeding in DH's ridiculous car a hectic day and I am knackered!

Purple a friend of mine was diagnosed with OC while pregnant and they just kept an eye on her and managed it until 36 weeks and then she was induced. Mum and baby were/are absolutely fine. Baby Purple might be the first Elderberry baby to arrive Grin

Alex I think Brave is referring to the time I chucked up with MS and the dog (who was just a small puppy) immediately ate it which then made me sick again. I was in the garden and the neighbours didn't know I was pregnant so I would imagine any who saw me just tutted at me having another a massive hangover. I also projectile vomited in the street outside my Dad's house and a threw a whole curry up mostly through my nose. Yes I can laugh about it now but thank goodness it's over! Grin

Janey I do have a bump which my MW described as 'neat' on Monday but at least it looks like a baby now rather than too many pies. I'll stick a photo on in a bit.

Welcome Littlemiss Smile

MotherOfCleo · 10/04/2013 22:08

wow Ive missed a lot....eeek.

Sounds nasty purple, hope they can sort you out!

I am craving skittles but have none, did a sweep of the house for sweets and all we have are super sour sweets called brainbusters, now I like sour sweets but these are something else!!!! WOWSERS! Confused

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/04/2013 22:21

Just dropping in for some stalking to say hi and hope you're all ok and it's not too miserable being PG. Who's due first? How long before we get an Elderberry birth story??

Purplemonster · 10/04/2013 22:25

Thanks for all the support berries, I've read up a bit more about it now so feel better now I know more about it and it does seem like most likely scenario is mentally unstable itchy me and early baby so it could be a lot worse. She says, having already had a little self pitying cry this evening Blush
Welcome littlemiss, my apologies, with my rather challenging day I forgot to say hello when I burst in hysterically earlier!

Littlemissworrier · 10/04/2013 22:40

Aw hi purple. Bless you I'm sure everything will be fine. Oooooh and not sure if it will help but boots do an amazing cream (in already using it as my arms were really dry and tad itchy) I LOVE it!!!

It's called derma mum, it's a stretch mark cream although its such a fab moisturise my partner has used it in his arms ha ha!! It's not hinging fancy, no fancy packaging or smell just a really good cream that soaks in well, is designed for pregnancy so no nasties in it and comes in a nice big tub (similar to sudacream but a little thinner)
Maybe worth a little go? I go a big tub for £12!

Not sure you can help stretch marks that much but ill give it a good go keeping skin supple Smile

Sending you lots of love and hugs sure you will be absolutely fine

thank you everyone for you lively welcoming comments!!! Calling in morning with more advise and hopefully solution to my 'poo issue' god it's embarrassing Smile ill keep you all posted (although I'm not sure you'll all want to know my bowel movements ha ha)

Night everyone, purple hope you get some sleep xxxxx

Littlemissworrier · 10/04/2013 22:42

Sorry to my last message (stupid phone) cream was 12 pounds and thank you for your 'lovely' messages not 'lively' Wink xxx

janey1234 · 10/04/2013 22:49

Purple - if you can't sleep later I thoroughly recommend the yoni thread in style and beauty. Absolutely wetting myself.

Am off to Hull bed now. Night y'all.
