HazleNutt · 12/05/2013 10:52

Grin youtube videos. Let us know if you hear any odd noises and lots of swearing from upstairs.

Purplemonster · 12/05/2013 11:04

Well it's too late now, I've been and had a look and there's a MASSIVE hole in the roof, just got to hope they don't screw it up now! (It is supposed to be a big hole btw, we're having three windows in a row, they haven't just randomly cut out half the roof for one small window Grin)

Quodlibet · 12/05/2013 11:24

I am bodging regrouting the shower today. Armed with nothing but YouTube videos. I figure I hate the fucking leaky bastard shower tiles anyway so it doesn't really matter if I make a mess of it.
My DP is NOT at all DIY-ey. All the power tools in our house are mine and he gets cross with me when I correct him when he calls screws 'nails' (it is an important distinction when you are doing a job that involves both).

janey1234 · 12/05/2013 11:38

Oh good luck purple! We were woken up at 2am on say morning by water pouring through our bedroom ceiling. We thought it was going to come down at one point, but thankfully isn't too bad and now are getting our crappy wallpapered ceiling re-plastered for free. So not all bad. Mainly annoyed as it interrupted my sleep!

Foodylicious · 12/05/2013 11:39

purple I would ask for referal to a physio and get a good assessment.
Hope youe window works out ok!

Cavort · 12/05/2013 12:38

Purple I hope you're getting less rain than we are today... if I had a big hole in the roof today my house would look more like a fish tank.

We have been completely lazy about getting our hallway and landing decorated before the baby comes and have left it way too late. We finally got the painter and decorator in for a quote and he's snowed under and can't do it until the week before the baby's due. Oops. FX the baby doesn't show up early Hmm

Purplemonster · 12/05/2013 12:58

It's due to start raining here at about 1.30 if the weather man is to be believed so I guess they're going to get wet! They reckoned it would all be done by then when they started this morning but last time I took cups of tea up the ladder (about ten minutes ago) it pretty much still just looked like a big hole to me.

Janey, if that happens to me I might actually cry and it won't be hormones, it will be despair!

Cavort, our entire house needs redecorating, seriously, every single room, I'm being realistic, I figure as long as its all done before she wants to bring school friends home for dinner it will be fine Grin

Purplemonster · 12/05/2013 13:00

Oh and Foody thanks for the idea about physio, I hadn't thought of that.

Cavort · 12/05/2013 13:13

Purple if it was just a case of sprucing it up I would just leave it, but it is a scene of carnage. There is an ex door which has been blocked up, bare floorboards, no skirting board. It is seriously embarrassing to open the front door at the moment. And the dog (who lives under the stairs) kindly helped us to start stripping the wallpaper around his bed when he was a little puppy.

Purplemonster · 12/05/2013 14:17

Cavort, I totally feel your pain, Wolf dog has chewed all the window ledges, skirtings, architraves and more worryingly, parts of the staircase in the hallway and has wrecked every internal door in the entire house. The rest should be easily replaced but I'm not quite sure what we're going to do about the well gnawed newel post Hmm

Cavort · 12/05/2013 15:47

Wow Purple I think ours might have found himself at the re-homing centre if he had done all that! Apart from peeling wallpaper off by his bed all he's ever done is chewed some plasterboard on a corner by the back door which we repaired with filler and touched up the paint. He started to nibble the new balustrade (he loves chewing bits of bare untreated wood) but a couple of coats of undercoat put a stop to that. I feel we've got off really lightly compared to you. He has pretty much trashed the garden though, there's barely a plant left in it!

How's the roof hole going?

I have found a really good group on Facebook where people in my local town sell off all their old baby gear and clothes really cheap. I know there's plenty similar on eBay but most of this stuff is within a few miles of my house so I can just pop round and collect it. What a good idea Smile

Purplemonster · 12/05/2013 16:38

Yes she can be very...spirited. I have wanted to actually kill her on many occasions and OH for getting a bloody puppy I didn't want in the first bloody place but at nearly 2 she does seem to be calming down...slightly.

The hole in the roof is still...holey. They seem to have got some sort of frames in but no glass or anything and it's starting to drizzle. We were supposed to be at MILs for Sunday lunch at 1.30 as they said it would be done by then. Apparently our portions have been plated up so can be microwaved when we're finished, mmm, yum Hmm. I am stuck in the lounge with all the pets trying not to freeze, very bored and trying not to worry about the 'yeah but...no but...doesn't it go like...' Back and forth between OH and BIL upstairs!

That Facebook thing sounds like a great idea, sounds like my friend with the nearly 2 year old is going to dog out some baby bits I can borrow hopefully so that should be good (assuming she actually does!)

Frogcatcher · 12/05/2013 20:16

I've seen similar on Facebook near me too - looks like could be really helpful. I'm also hoping that all my instadiffing friends & DP's relatives who aren't planning any more will come up trumps for us too! My parents popped over earlier for a cup of tea, ended up staying for dinner & now I'm knackered. Mum helpfully said I looked pale & tired so I'm obviously blooming already then! Thanks mother! I think anyone would with a hyperactive & loud SS like mine. He's going to have to learn to be quiet when there is a baby sleeping in the house or there's going to be trouble.

janey1234 · 12/05/2013 20:40

Any sign of a roof purple? Really hope so...

Frogcatcher · 12/05/2013 20:56

Or that you're busy eating your microwaved Sunday lunch (yum) & DIY SOS have been called in...

HazleNutt · 12/05/2013 21:47

have you seen this thread, dog owners and potential dog owners?
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1754151-to-not-want-him-parenting-my-newborn-with-me?pg=1

I'm quite looking forward to seeing how the zoo behaves when the baby arrives.

Purplemonster · 12/05/2013 21:52

Phew yes thanks everyone, they finally finished the windows at nearly 8pm so it ended up being a 12 hour job. I've just got back from my yummy microwaved dinner at the in laws Envy (that's a pukey face). Just got to see what happens when it rains!

I saw that thread earlier Hazle and it made me smile, I've seen a few clips of wolf breeds gently howling the baby to sleep when it cries so that could be interesting for the neighbours!

Cavort · 12/05/2013 22:38

Purple I have just got my TENS out of the box to have a nosey at how it works and it says it's suitable for lots of other pregnancy complaints other than just pain relief during early labour. It says it relieves pregnancy back pain so maybe it's worth a go for yours, especially if you might be considering getting one for the birth anyway? I have bought this one but there are plenty available or you can hire them from Mothercare etc.

Purplemonster · 12/05/2013 22:45

Interesting Cavort, the midwife at antenatal class said you're not allowed to use them until 37/38 weeks? I'm seriously thinking about finding an osteopath though and seeing if they can help.

Cavort · 12/05/2013 23:33

I'm sure an osteopath would really help. I saw one a few years ago for unexplained neck pain I was having and it was gone after couple of sessions.

HazleNutt · 13/05/2013 10:32

How's everybody? Tired here, as baby had a disco last night and kept me awake with his kicking. Apparently they are now settling into their schedule for after birth, so I certainly hope this was an exception and he is not planning to have a similar party every night after he's born Shock

BraveLilBear · 13/05/2013 10:46

Morning Hazle sorry to hear about DiscoBaby. I can offer nothing but sympathies after next door were having a real-life disco in the room next to ours, which started at 11.30. Ended up on the phone to the police at 1.30m, who said there was nothing they can do apart from pass on details to neighbourhood policing team in the morning as it's a council matter.

They finally switched off the music at 1.45am, at which point, Baby Bear woke up and continued the party.

Now in the office and feel like walking straight back out - having a terrible day already - deadlines on the brink of being missed due to my workload and absent boss, and just heard from DP that his job might be at risk, too.

Hope everyone else is better....

Work is driving me nuts too, I swear half of this company have decided to stop thinking and just send all questions to me. Every second email I open I'd like to reply with "How the hell should I know???Confused Not even remotely my area"

Purplemonster · 13/05/2013 11:03

Oh no sorry you both had such a bad night and hope you get good news on DPs job Bear (though I guess you won't know for a while?)

I think though Hazle that you may be giving me a bit of false hope with that statement about routines as my baby is a lazy little one who noticeably does not do early mornings and generally only starts wriggling after 10am (could be because that's when I have breakfast normally - can't face food first thing). Somehow I can't imagine this is going to continue when she's born though!

BraveLilBear · 13/05/2013 11:13

You never know Purple!

DPs job is complicated because he was headhunted into a promotion from a different department and is being trained up. The threat is that he has a month left on probation and the appearance of a new boss (who wants to bring her own people in) is causing the problem.

He's doing really well, but I'm not sure that's enough protection as he's on probation.

Hazle that's very restrained. I'm at the point of wanting to reply 'f* off I'm too busy' to every other email! Work sucks. Seven weeks to go...
