Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 10:20

Thanks all. I'm just bursting to tell everyone at the moment which is ridiculous at this stage! Yes, I have already researched early scans ( yes, it was a bank hols & i had too much time on my hands!!) & there is a clinic very near me that does them. DP is up for that too. This is my first pg & I have no history of mc but I am 36 so need to be cautious plus have a family history of twins. Shock First qn for those who had early scans: did you tell people after the 8 wk scan or wait for 12wk one? I read that it's 98% viable at 8wks anyway.

janey1234 · 07/05/2013 10:23

Cross post cavort. I am with you on the swelling - check my cankles out on my profile. They are usually the only part of me that's thin!! Have you tried lactulose? Not lovely, but not horrendous...

frog - I waited until 12 weeks but that's due to something that happened in my past, and I didn't really trust anything until I'd passed 12 weeks. But I think the odds of all being well after 8 week scan with heartbeat is indeed something like 95% - brilliant odds! Smile

Alexandra6 · 07/05/2013 10:24

Seriously janey? So she got up, gave you her seat and none of the arseholes others offered? So rude!

That is lovely about your DP quod Smile

Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 10:24

Ugh Janey I lived & worked in London till about 18m ago & I do not miss the tube at all. I used to always give my seat up for pg women & so many men just ignored them. Angry

HazleNutt · 07/05/2013 10:24

Cavort see here:

Frog I waited til after the 12-week scan and the nuchal test, but that's just a personal preference (MIL would have informed the world and its uncle, so in case there were any serious problems detected, I didn't want to un-tell everybody).

Alexandra6 · 07/05/2013 10:29

Cross post, frog I told my family and a couple of good friends straight away, then the in laws, before 8 weeks. I've since told a few other friends because I'm rubbish at keeping this exciting news secret because the way I see it is that it's good to have support from close friends/family, but everyone is different so do what feels right for you. When we get to 12 weeks, we'll tell everyone else. I'm not going to do any big announcements though, on Facebook etc, until the baby is born and all's good.

Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 10:31

Thanks all. DP doesn't want us to tell anyone till after 12wk scan as my MIL sounds the same as Hazles. Whole family knew about his 18 yr old niece (due July - you can imagine how I felt about that one when we were TTC - grrrr) when she was only about 6 wks! We've agreed that I can tell my parents early on as will need to chat with my mum & if, God forbid, it goes wrong I'll need the support.

Cavort · 07/05/2013 10:32

I had an early scan at NHS EPAU due to bleeding but had already told close family and friends by then. I told my Sister about 2 hours after getting BFP. I'm not one for secrets and didn't want to tell lies. I probably would have waited longer before telling work but once the MS kicked in around 6.5 weeks there was no hiding what it was!

Are these the statistics you mean? I found these really reassuring after I'd had an early scan and seen a heartbeat Smile

And FX for our first Elderberry set of twins!

Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 10:33

Oh & another reason not to tell his family too early is that he has an 8yr old son who would love a sibling so he doesn't want to deal with having to explain anything difficult to him & deal with his disappointment too.

Cavort · 07/05/2013 10:40

Yes Hazle that's exactly what my sandals are doing to my feet. I've had to give them up in favour of flip flops Sad

Janey that looks uncomfortable. Sad I can still see my ankle bones but they're now well cushioned.

Cavort · 07/05/2013 10:42

Frog I have a 7 year old DSD and we didn't tell her for ages, until I started showing. Pregnancy is so long that we wanted it to seem as short as possible for her.

Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 10:50

Yes, that would also be my preference Cavort esp as SS is being a precocious brat at the moment who will probably ask embarassing qns at inappropriate times! Unfortunately DP's family are incapable of/do not believe in keeping certain things from children so he will find out as soon as MIL knows. DP plans to tell his ex moments before SS then his parents straight after that.

Obviously sickness may preempt things (with everybody) if I start throwing up when family is around (we have 50:50 custody of SS & DP's family all live in each others pockets are very close).

Alexandra6 · 07/05/2013 10:54

I feel like that about my little stepsister frog she's only 10 but luckily I haven't seen her since I got my BFP which is unusual for us but works out well in that I'll be gone 12 wks when I tell her.

I'm def showing already but it must just be swelling, I wore a maternity hand me down maxi dress yesterday and it was SO loose and comfy! It's not blatantly maternity wear though (although the first thing DH said was "ah you look nice in that maternity dress" so maybe it is!)

Quodlibet · 07/05/2013 11:00

I have told a few close friends and immediate family straight away, had to let some of my colleagues (who are all close friends) know to avoid some heavy lifting at work and to excuse my yawniness! Personally I don't mind people close to me knowing early (different with children obvs) as when I MCed last time the support from those same people was vital. Weirdly it's much easier to tell someone you've had a MC when they knew you were pg than if they didn't. I'm now trying to get my head round telling people about this pg who didn't know about the previous MC, if that makes sense....

Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 11:08

Thanks Quod. I may have to tell work early as I work in another office in the region a couple of days a week & those days involve a long day & commute by train. If I find I'm struggling then I'll need to say something. We're also coming up to end of our "year" so will be setting objectives for next & seems a bit unfair not to mention it. My own appraisee told me she was pg the other week at only about 6 weeks!

HazleNutt · 07/05/2013 11:33

Oh and I'm no superwoman - I find some everyday tasks quite challenging as well, classes are easier. Getting my sneakers on is the most difficult part about going to the gym.

janey1234 · 07/05/2013 11:56

hazle you are indeed superwoman as far as I'm concerned. I think I'm doing bloody well and have had a bloody healthy pregnancy (despite pre-eclampsia issues) but feel like such a pathetic wimp next to you. If I ever do this again, I'm going to try to follow your lead and stay much more active from the start. I would, of course, fail I am sure

Purplemonster · 07/05/2013 12:02

Welcome Frog! So excited to have another graduate!

Hazle, you totally are superwoman, there's no denying it. It makes me feel a bit pathetic and weedy, I look up to you and your super fitness with a slight sense of awe!

Frog - I told our parents and a few people at work I'm really close to before my 12 week scan because I wouldn't have felt right hiding it from them and I would have needed their support if it hadn't worked out, I think you need to just do what feels right for you. Hazle's right though, the first few weeks seem to be the slowest of your life but it does speed by after that first scan!

MotherOfCleo · 07/05/2013 12:13

welcome frog!! CONGRATS! We waited till after our 9 week scan to tell our parents, it seemed like forever but at least we were more used to the idea by then. My besty knew straight away as she knew we were trying and asked outright.....my HUGE grin gave the game away. Grin

I'm 14 weeks tomorrow and did a fb announcement about 3 or 4 days after our 12 week scan. I text/called all our close friends and family before hand to let them know personally.
How are you feeling? I have been so so tired the last few days/week. I just feel exausted all the time....yawn. So rock and roll. Guess I'm paying for feeling so good up until now. Wink

HazleNutt · 07/05/2013 12:19

Ha you wouldn't think I'm so fit if you saw the size of my arse. Oh and I now weigh quite a bit more than DH. He's 6'4''..

In other news, we assembled the Bugaboo and I'm still very happy with it. Looks sturdy enough, but light and easy to handle. Only thing that of course everybody will assume we simply copied Kate, but I bought mine ages before!

janey1234 · 07/05/2013 12:23

Copied Kate? I thought you were Kate? Wink

HazleNutt · 07/05/2013 12:27

I bet she doesn't weigh more than her DH Envy

Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 12:37

Hi Purple & Mother! I think you were the last BFP the berries got Mother & I had only just joined then so we've had a bit of a dry spell.

I'm glad to hear that you are still really active Hazle. I do weekly Pilates (so need to tell the teacher as they have to modify exercises & give me a pregnancy pillow) & play 9 holes of golf every Sat plus a bit of gym. The golf could be interesting when the bump starts to appear!!

BraveLilBear · 07/05/2013 12:38

Greetings all.... congrats to Quod and hello, welcome and congrats to frogcatcher too!

The first trimester takes forever. It's like living in a timewarp! But am now in the third (29 weeks) and things are going a lot quicker all of a sudden...

All well in the north, I can report... Had a very lovely weekend only one hormone-fuelled blub sesh over something ridiculous sorted out garden and think we've decided on our pram - the Mothercare Orb .

Baby Bear has a new trick... I call it the boing. Due to the fact it still rather annoyingly prefers to be transverse, probably due to the fact that the placenta is still in the way of proper vertical living, BB has started doing something of a trampoline stretch.... I can feel legs/bum on one side (more moving parts) and head on the other (the hard round bit), and it basically bounces on both ends at the same time.

Tis a rather odd sensation, usually accompanied by some head turning. My bump can throw some amazing shapes!

Alex my dreams have been insane all throughout pregnancy. All very vivid, very graphic, can be violent, sexy, or just plain odd. I'm not sure whether I'll miss them or not...!

Strange, gross question but does anyone know if I need to being a urine specimen to my checking in appointment? (First midwife app and 12 week scan). They haven't sent me a letter or a pee pot but presume they'll want it? Do people go to their GP and get a pee pot?!
