Janie I missed why you have this ELCS/induction situation? Seems ridiculous that you can't just choose!

Purplemonster · 05/05/2013 21:08

I'm even less sure about this induction lark now, stepson's Mum text me on Friday lunch time ish to ask if I could fetch him after work for the weekend as they were inducing her early (nearly 37 weeks) there and then...she's still there, no baby yet Hmm

Alexandra6 · 05/05/2013 21:39

Eek! Why was she induced purple just as I thought they let you get to 42 weeks before inducing unless there's a reason they really need to?

Purplemonster · 05/05/2013 23:36

Oh yes there were good medical reasons to induce early but I can't believe how long it's taking! And it's her fourth child so usually faster, I know they said induction can mean you have a longer more painful labour but this seems ridiculous! I'll get the lowdown for you all once she's actually home again!

Cavort · 06/05/2013 09:18

I am not listening to induction horror stories!

I only know 2 people who have been induced and the first one resulted in a manageable 6 hour labour and a fast birth. Smile Ok, so the second resulted in EMCS but we'll gloss over that shall we.

I think my MIL cursed me yesterday. She told me about the horrendous cramping she used to get while pregnant and asked if I had been getting any (no). Surprise, surprise, at 1.30am I wake up to horrendous cramp in my right calf which seemed to go on forever. Hmm

Ahh, a hot sunny day to enjoy while feeling uncomfortably hot and whale-like. Grin

Alexandra6 · 06/05/2013 09:36

Yes please to glossing over bad stories!

I honestly just thought DH was having some kind of fit in his sleep or nightmare, so woke him up as he thrashed around, kicking me, and said "god, are you alright?" Turns out he was dreaming he was playing for his team West Ham and going in for a sliding tackle. Men are simple creatures aren't they! TMI but I've been having, erm, very quite sexy dreams since pregnancy, it must be the hormones! Shame no RL sex due to cervix-ban! Still my dreams are clearly nowhere near as exciting as DH's Wink

Enjoy the sun and day off work!

HazleNutt · 06/05/2013 09:39

And don't read the thread in AIBU about being refused epidurals either. Not even a risk here, (attitude being 'but why on earth would you not have one? you like pain?') but I'm still fuming on behalf of the women describing their experiences - if I need a pain relief then I need it and I don't want a mw telling me that I don't!

I've had the leg cramps too a couple times, not pleasant indeed.

No holiday here, Thursday is supposed to be off but now boss wants me on a conf call on Thursday planned to last until 10 in the evening! The joys of working with Americans..
But on the other hand, it's supposed to be raining on Thursday and everything is closed in all 3 countries, not much fun. So I've asked for a Friday off instead, will go to Germany for some shopping.

We're also dogsitting friend's golden retriever this weekend. Lovely dog, but slightly nuts and must be either deaf or extremely stubborn. Will be interesting.

Cavort · 06/05/2013 12:06

I haven't and won't be reading that. Well, at least not before the birth. My Sister's experience was bad enough without reading about loads more which were probably a lot worse.

I have written in my birth preferences that if a specific pain relief is requested but not advised on medical grounds (which is the only reason I will accept for not giving it to me) then I want a full explanation of exactly why it is not advised given at the time of refusal, and if I am thought to be not compos mentis enough to understand then the full rationale should be given to DH.

Friday sounds like a much more productive day to have off than one mid-week where everywhere is closed.

We are off to Newquay next Monday for our little break in a static caravan. I have to admit one of my sneaky reasons for booking a caravan (other then taking the dog) was because they don't have Wi-Fi (or the one I have booked hasn't). Wherever there is Wi-Fi, being self-employed, DH will inevitably end up working. So he turned up on Friday with a wireless dongle to get him online wherever he is. FFS! Angry So as well as working from our caravan, I can now see him working from the hospital while I am in labour. Unless I conveniently 'break' the dongle at the start of labour.

Have you seen this one yet?

Quodlibet · 06/05/2013 20:24

Here's some good news for today - been to early scan and we have a 8wk blob with a heartbeat! Hurrah!

Cavort · 06/05/2013 20:32

Oh Quod I'm absolutely made up for you! What fantastic news to end a lovely sunny day. Smile

HazleNutt · 06/05/2013 20:36

Excellent news! Thanks

Purplemonster · 06/05/2013 20:36

Yay! Congratulations Quod I'm so pleased for you! What a fabulous bit of news.

Stepson's Mum eventually gave birth early hours this morning, baby in an incubator being tube fed for now but they're both ok thankfully and have just got to stay in hospital a few days.

Cavort · 06/05/2013 21:32

Purple, so was that 2.5 days in labour following induction? Hmm

Alexandra6 · 06/05/2013 21:55

Yay congrats quod Grin

Purplemonster · 06/05/2013 23:09

I'm not sure, I know they induced her Friday afternoon but clinging to the hope that it didn't work for a long time rather than she was in labour all that time!
Depending on my blood results I think i could be asking some serious induction related questions at my next midwife appt!

HazleNutt · 07/05/2013 08:56

I think I need to slow down a bit. Did 2 classes at the gym yesterday (zumba and Tae Bo) and woke up in the middle of the night with a nasty back ache. Too many roundhouse kicks probably. Better now and baby has been very active, so probably nothing serious. Should just stick to one class at the time though.

Those Elderberries who are just starting the journey - you are thinking that time goes just sooooooo slowly, aren't you? At least felt like that for me. Well, it has changed now, the baby will be here in the matter of weeks! Help, I'm not ready!

Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 09:27

hellloooo all!

I'm the latest graduated Elderberry & they have kicked me out I have been sent off to find you. I'm 14DPO today but have had BFPs since Friday (curses the Berry obsession with sensitive ICs!) so terrified that it is going to disappear at any minute! 12 weeks seems such a long way away...

janey1234 · 07/05/2013 09:44

Oh quod - that's AMAZING news, it has actually made my week. Am totally delighted for you both.

hazle - I can't believe how fit you are. I get out of breath walking upstairs to bed now! Blush. And you're right about time speeding up - aaagh!

Frog - welcome!! We were saying the other day that it had been ages since we had a graduate, so we're very, very happy to welcome you. And I hate to say it, but the first 12 weeks are indeed incredibly slow - but you will get there. It just seems to take about six months for the eight weeks until the scan to pass!

Quodlibet · 07/05/2013 09:49

Congratulations Frogcatcher and welcome! It's great to have another first-trimester graduate along.

Hazle I am still agog that you can do one exercise class let alone two. I get worn out and have to lie down for a bit after changing the sheets at the moment.

Quodlibet · 07/05/2013 09:53

Thanks Janie and all - it has been nice to hear people say 'congratulations' after everyone being so tentative at first. Strangely I didn't get nervous at the scan -thought I would - as had a strange sense that all was well this time. Poor DP was in bits though as soon as we saw a heartbeat. He has been really containing his emotions about it all and it was so nice to see him suddenly allow himself to be happy.

Alexandra6 · 07/05/2013 09:53

hazle you're SO fit, the only exercise I'm up to is walking and I'm nowhere near as far gone as you are! Time is still going so slowly, I can't wait until I'm at the whole "argh need to get sorted" stage!

frog huge congrats and welcome! It does crawl by, I'm not going to lie, but every day that goes by feels good, I've got my 12 week scan next week so am feeling really nervous but phew, it's nearly here at last! One thing to think about is having an early private scan, I did at 8 wks and have felt a teeny tiny bit more relaxed since then.

HazleNutt · 07/05/2013 10:09

congratulations Frog and welcome!

Cavort · 07/05/2013 10:14

Welcome Frog and huge congratulations!

Quod aww that's lovely about your DP Smile

Hazle you make me feel like such a lard bucket. I took the dog out twice yesterday and was proud of my exertion at that but there is absolutely no way I could manage two full-on exercise classes now. I've even had to stop swimming as it seems to aggravate my SPD.

Now I don't want to sound ungrateful after such a shit start to the year weather-wise, but this lovely hot weather is making me swell up like I did in Spain. I don't quite look like Shrek yet but my shoes are tight, toes look like cocktail sausages and I can't wear my rings. When you see pictures of heavily pregnant women in the media they never have any of this! And don't get me started on the taste of Syrup of Figs.

janey1234 · 07/05/2013 10:17

Oh quod bless your DP. I may be ridiculously slightly emotional and hormonal, but that just made me cry. What a horrendous time you've both had, but the odds really and truly are in your favour now Smile.

Lovely tube journey this morning - lots of men looking angrily at bump (in a "I'm not moving" kind of way) - so in the end a lovely lovely woman gave me her seat. I didn't notice until she was stood up, but she was actually pregnant too. Only just showing and bless her, obviously thought my need was greater as I really am humungous now. To be fair in the first and second trimester I was definitely more than capable of standing, and happy to do so, whereas I get really tired now - but still, some people are unbelievable. Angry
