Oh and the mothercare orb looks good and not a bad price, is it quite light/easy to use? Can it be used as a car seat too with an adapter (I think that's what's good about the icandy etc but this one looks like a good price?)

Prams and pee pots...how my life has changed! Also went to my first non-alcohol BBQ yesterday, was jealous of the drinks!

MotherOfCleo · 07/05/2013 14:02

Alex when I got to the docs the receptionist thrust a pee pot at me....not good as it was 8.30 and (sorry for tmi) I struggled to squeeze a drop out.

Nice to see you frog, hope you are all good!

My pooch is off being groomed and the house seems too quiet and empty without her. Confused Guess I should be careful what I wish for, I moan when she's a pain but I miss her when she's not here.....irony.

Alexandra6 · 07/05/2013 14:05

Thanks mother although I have my scan the same morning apparently so not sure how the peeing in a pot/having enough pee for the ultrasound will work! I'll phone them in a bit and ask.

BraveLilBear · 07/05/2013 14:10

Lol Alex welcome to the party Wink

Go to appt with full bladder -they'll give you a pot to pee in. I think they send that one away so it's more of a tube with some crystals in (I had a nightmare with mine... tipped half of them out by accident then managed to miss most of tube due to post-operative complications. Was all rather embarrassing!

At my 16 week appointment, I was presented with my own pot to birng with me to future appts... Word of warning, if your trust go in for this, they may hand it back to you, full. Did NOT expect that! Very much loved my GP who rinsed mine out before handing it back!

And yes you can adapt Orb to a travel system with £30 adaptors and either one of the two standard car seats for about £130-160. It is fairly light and the wheels are urbbery, not plastic like they look, so we're fairly sold. My parents have generously offered to splash out on a pram for us so hope that this is acceptable to them, if not, we'll chip in the rest.

For most of the time, alcohol hasn't bothered me. But did have a hankering for a refreshing cider/cool beer yesterday, and have been lusting after Baileys whenever DP has one. He's very accommodating and let's me sniff the glass, and also let's me have a sip

Oops x-post Alex - which one's first? It might be that if you can't oblige at the appt, she'll let you bring a sample in later that day or the next... Mine said that was an option after my terrible 8ml offering (tho wasn't needed in the end).

HazleNutt · 07/05/2013 14:13

mother that's convenient. We have tried to take ours to pet groomers but they are 35 and 40 kilos respectively and all local groomers said that they don't do such beasts..

janey1234 · 07/05/2013 14:14

Alex - at our hospital they give you lovely pots with a funnel and everything, no mess at all.

Brave - I had a sip of DP's cider yesterday and it was THE NICEST THING I HAVE EVER TASTED, so understand your pain!

Purplemonster · 07/05/2013 14:24

Alex, I didn't have to provide a sample until my 2nd midwife appointment after my 12 week scan, I'm sure they will hand you a pot when they want one! Slightly envious of all these fancy pots with funnels and crystals (yes, that's how sad my life is) mine is just a plastic pot! (and yes, they do hand it back to you still full Hmm)

In other news, I've just had a phone call saying my second set of bile results have come back and they're...normal. I'm not sure what this means, is it normal because the drugs I'm on are working and controlling my levels, is it not Cholestasis at all and my previous high liver function results were due to the virus I had? Why am I itchy? I mean, it's good news obviously, just a bit confusing!

Alexandra6 · 07/05/2013 14:26

Thanks all, just phoned them and they said not to worry about the full bladder for scan/pee pot situ (she seemed to think it was funny that I was that organised that I'd phoned ahead and she got the giggles! Blush ) Anyway she said my bladder doesn't even need to be full for 12 week scan (is that true?!) so not to worry and it will all be sorted on the day.

BraveLilBear · 07/05/2013 14:28

Funnels! I have total Envy

That sounds like good news Purple - will they explain it to you a bit better at some point? FX for more improvement...

Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 14:28

Arrrgh I had to do a house party & then a boozy pub night being driver for DP at the weekend & I found it horrendous. I'm hoping I get used to it & it gets easier. I was cursing the fact that I had POAS so early. Most people wouldn't even have known they were pg by that point so would have carried on regardless but once you know you don't want to risk it! And why do you suddenly start wanting what you can't have? There was camembert at the party & I luuuurve all cheese & of course I couldn't have it. I think I may become addicted to Schloer by the end of 9 months Blush
On the plus side I can no longer touch the cat litter tray Wink

Alexandra6 · 07/05/2013 14:30

Cross post, glad the results are normal though confusing purple Weirdly I was very itchy yesterday and googled and it said it's because blood vessels run nearer the surface in pg (or something like that) but it sounds like yours was/is a next level of itchy, I'm glad if it isn't that OC thing though or if it's gone away. Has the itching got a bit better?

Alexandra6 · 07/05/2013 14:32

frog you can have baked Camembert but only if it's cooked all the way through properly. Discovered this the other day and was SO happy I ate a whole one to myself!

Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 14:39

Yes, I have some of those already in the fridge! Unfortunately this one was just sat on a cheeseboard. Luckily I'm veggie (but eat fish) so a lot of the banned foodstuffs don't apply to me anyway but I'll have to be careful with not exceeding my oily fish quotas.

janey1234 · 07/05/2013 14:40

Good - if confusing - results purple! Sounds, I imagine, that the drugs are working? Agree with you alex about itching - DP is by now very used to having to itch my back in bed, whilst I scratch my legs (attractive) but I think if you have OC or liver problems like poor purple it's a whole new level of tortuous itching.

alex - yes re 12 weeks. There's more to see so no need for a completely full bladder. When I had mine they did make me drink water and sit back in reception for 10 mins, but I think that was to try to wake it up/move it so they could get all the measurements they need. Love them laughing at you!

frog - it's not the schloer you want to avoid an addiction to, it's Fanta. Don't even try any - cavort accidentally got us all addicted at one point...

Alexandra6 · 07/05/2013 14:47

I'm the same frog veggie but fish eater. Hopefully this won't happen to you but I've got food aversions and suddenly couldn't stomach fish or certain veg like brocolli, happened at about 7 weeks in (normally I'll eat anything except meat). So I got worried I wasn't getting the nutrients/protein I needed but baked beans on toast and eggs went down ok so I stocked up on those, plus fruit. Today I had a smoked salmon and Philadelphia bagel and it went down really well so am pleased and hoping my food aversions are calming down!

HazleNutt · 07/05/2013 14:49

frog I was a pescatarian like you, had not had any meat or chicken for 10 years. But turns out the baby is a carnivore, I got a massive craving for chicken quite early on.

Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 14:53

It's also the lying & deviousness I'm going to have to get used to. So far it's not been that hard as most places we go to it's generally accepted that one of us will be driving. However I'm going to a friend's do in London on Friday tho & would normally get the train & taxi home. I'm going to have to make up an excuse that I had to drive to fast train station due to early start in London office which is why I'm driving at other end. DP can't come so he can't even drink all my drinks for me. I reckon I'll pretend to have one or two then pour them away when no one is looking! Or take a flask of Schloer in my bag to replace white wine with Grin. Hmm Fanta you say...

HazleNutt · 07/05/2013 14:53

And as alex said, you might go off certain foods. I suddenly could not eat any white fish or shrimp (tuna and salmon are ok) so the diet might have been quite boring if I didn't start eating chicken instead.

Frogcatcher · 07/05/2013 14:56

Interesting Hazle I have been wanting to eat a lot of protein (eggs, salmon, Quorn) over the last week & was really tempted by DP's pork sausages at the weekend. I've been veggie for 17 years though so don't really want to cave now!

MotherOfCleo · 07/05/2013 14:57

hazel shes a friend who runs a mobile dog groomers, she has a big van so just comes an gets pooch from the house and returns her clean Grin pooch is about 22kgs, but she grooms big newfoundlands etc and only asks owners for help lifting them onto the table. It doesnt sound like yours are that heavy, surely big gsd's etc weigh more?

I also felt awful as I asked her about how their ivf is going and they found out she has the eggs of a 45 year old and the chances of having kids are almost zero. Sad They've done 2 rounds of privately funded ivf and still no joy so they are giving up, felt awful standing their with a bun in the oven! Life can really be tough on some people huh.

BraveLilBear · 07/05/2013 14:58

Yes to baked cheeses - was distraught at having to give up (most) goats cheese cos it didn't say it was pasteurised on the label until I read on here that baked stuff is fine Grin

There is so much to take in in pregnancy - I found it quite overwhelming at first. But now I'm much more chilled out about it - you just have to be a bit more sensible with what you eat and drink but commonsense usually covers it eg avoid home-made mayo at a barbie, but stuff out of a jar would be fine. Watch out for the liver one though - my mum was at one point reccomending that I eat pate til I explained that was one of the few very obviously banned things .

Oh and Alex they will calm down... for a day or two, then it'll be something else (ie whatever you have in the fridge) or the same aversion will come back! Wink

Janey plus one to back scratching services! I have always been partial to a back-scratch, but am even more grateful than usual now! Fortunately, DP sees this as an amusing chore and is always happy to oblige, unlike with massages!

OP posts:
Purplemonster · 07/05/2013 15:16

I HOPE they explain it better Bear! Unfortunately so far everything seems to be a case of 'well we don't really know, we'll keep monitoring' still, at least it's not bad news hey and at least the drugs are keeping the worst of the itching under control. Now if only they could magically cure my agonising back ache we'd be on to a winner Grin

Mmm you're all making me hungry talking about food. I found that having restrictions only bothered me for the first few weeks which I think was more a case of wanting what I couldn't have, after that I really haven't been bothered most of the time, although I have ignored a few of their restrictions which I personally think are a bit OTT so this has possibly made it easier.

HazleNutt · 07/05/2013 15:26

I think most of the food restrictions are OTT. Even in France, the land of cheese, there are only 3-5 listeriosis cases per million people. And the last big listeria outbreak (in the US) - melons. Last salmonella outbreak - cucumbers. Nobody tells us to avoid fruit and veggies though. I'm sure even if you ate raw meat and camembert only, washed down with some wine, it's still even remotely as risky as crossing the street or god forbid, driving.

Purplemonster · 07/05/2013 15:51

Indeed, there is just too much pregnancy hysteria, the way I figure it, I've been eating my steak pink in the middle for more years than I care to count and it has never made me ill so I fail to see why it's suddenly dangerous now. A little common sense goes a long way. I DO understand why some people feel the need to follow every guideline to the letter, that's their choice, as long as they don't get judgy with me then everyone needs to do what they feel comfortable with.
