Welcome back oh graduated elderberries. Let us discuss the delights of being over-30 first-timers with google obsessions Grin

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

hazle I googled for the price and saw lots of links about the product being recalled in the US due to suffocation, it might be they've changed it since but thought I'd mention it in case www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2010/Infant-Suffocation-Deaths-Prompt-Recall-of-Amby-Baby-Motion-BedsHammocks/

My appetite is back, yay, at lunch I polished off a baguette and whole Camembert to myself followed by crisps and two ice lollies. Ok not the healthiest but oh well!

HazleNutt · 04/05/2013 17:32

Yes I saw those reports before I bought it and Amby claims that the hammock was assembled and used incorrectly in those 2 cases. The sides are not fabric, but mesh and I think they did something to the spring after the accidents too to minimise tilting.

janey1234 · 04/05/2013 17:53

Hazle I think I told you, but just in case I didn't... My nephew had one of those amby hammocks and LOVED it. Was the only way he would ever get to sleep so well worth the cash his parents would say!

Purplemonster · 04/05/2013 19:37

Umm I think my boobs may be contemplating doing something, without being TOO graphic, I squeezed, they oozed. I feel I should be proud of them upping their game after a lifetime of being fairly useless features but I'm too overwhelmed by eeeeewwwww at the moment!

janey1234 · 04/05/2013 19:47

I know this is odd purple burin jealous! Been 'accidentally' squeezing and nothing. Nada. My massive boobs are useless Hmm

Purplemonster · 04/05/2013 19:54

Mine hadn't shown any signs if life until today Janey and it was only with a bit of poking and prodding so I'm sure you'll get your turn at being repulsed amazed by them soon enough!

janey1234 · 04/05/2013 20:00

Right. I shall try again in a week. And if nothing then I am officially going to disown them.

Cavort · 04/05/2013 20:20

Hurrah for someone else with leaky norks! Purple are both of yours working? And also, what exactly is oozing out? Mine is clear liquid, almost water-like. Unless you have already advertised it, I would keep this new talent under your hat - my DH is scared of touching mine now Sad

Janey I'm sure your horrific discovery of an unwanted wet patch near your nipples is just around the corner Grin

I have been on a lovely Hen Do in sunny Chester this afternoon but back home now while I watch those remaining uploading photos of their drunken antics to Facebook. I suppose I could have stayed longer but it's just not the same when you can't get pissed. Bah! Angry

HazleNutt · 04/05/2013 20:31

Mine are not oozing but if squeezed, there are a few droplets of kind of yellowish milky substance. So hopefully this means they're working as breastfeeding apparently is really good for weight loss

janey1234 · 04/05/2013 20:34

Oh everyone's are working but mine! Weirdly very jealous. Damn it - as hazle says I was really hoping to breast feed to shedsome of the lard I've put on as it's best for baby...

Purplemonster · 04/05/2013 20:35

I squeezed the one because my nipple looked slightly...gungy (sorry tmi) but yes, on squishing in just the right way both emit a bead of clear fluid so it would appear both of mine work I'm just hoping they confine this new skill to when I squidge them (which I have to confess out of a sense of fascinated horror I have done several times always with the same result) as I don't fancy them leaking willy nilly whenever they please!

HazleNutt · 04/05/2013 20:36

I don't think it's actually necessary to leak anything before the baby is here, so I would not worry too much, you will most likely still have the chance to experience the breastfeeding diet magical moments of nourishing your newborn.

Purplemonster · 04/05/2013 20:37

And you're right Cavort, if I can help it I'm soooo not telling OH as he would definitely freak out.

Cavort · 04/05/2013 20:40

I don't know how true it is and Dr Google seems a bit vague for once, but I have heard that nipple stimulation and/or expressing before birth can induce labour so it might be best not to play with them too much.

Purplemonster · 04/05/2013 20:40

Of course I'm hoping to breast feed for the weight loss sake of the baby as well whereas Oh seems keen on the idea due to the cost of formula, how very mercenary of him not having my high ideals Wink

Cavort · 04/05/2013 20:44

I was chatting to some new Mums this afternoon and they said the after pains while BF are quite horrific (presumably as everything starts to shrink?) and we should all prepare ourselves for them as it's a pregnancy secret nobody warns you about.

Purplemonster · 04/05/2013 20:52

Ooh another thing we didn't know about that's horrendous? Yay! Something else to look forward to Hmm (not that I'm at all grumpy today)

Alexandra6 · 04/05/2013 22:12

There is so much about pregancy I didn't know about! Another thing I've only just heard about is perineal massage! Are any of you contemplating that?!

Cavort · 04/05/2013 22:57

That's a good question Alex. I haven't done it yet but i'm contemplating giving it a try. The evidence of it preventing an Episiotomy or tear seems somewhat sketchy but I guess it can't hurt to try. It was recommended at my Antenatal classes and I know women who've done it who say they think it worked for them.

The issue for me is if i'll be able to do it myself or whether I will have to rope poor old DH in to help me, which quite frankly I'd rather not. We've discussed it and I think we'll both be happier if I can manage it alone, although DH has reluctantly agreed to step up to the mark if required. If this scenario ended up happening I don't think we'd do it properly as we'd both be laughing too much.

Alexandra6 · 05/05/2013 00:00

Really don't think i could ask DH! Blush He is doing a lot this pregnancy for me, washing up/cleaning etc but I might have to draw the line there! Maybe I'm too uptight, excuse the pun! I am going to give it a go though, I think, I was reading that it helps along with raspberry leaf tea. Let me know how you get on cavort!

There were people on another thread who were getting their DH's to shave their bikini lines for them, but again you won't catch me doing that! Makes me cringe just thinking about that!

janey1234 · 05/05/2013 09:06

That's the problem - it's getting to the stage now where I'm really not sure I'd be able to do it for myself. Am sure DP would oblige if he really, really had to, but not sure I could bring myself to ask him.
Getting to the stage now where I'm keen to know which way this is going to go - elcs or vb - but won't get an answer for 5 weeks, and I guess the way things are looking, the decision could be taken out of my hands anyway.... Just want to know what I will be facing!

Cavort · 05/05/2013 09:22

My bump is not too big yet so I'm sure I can manage it myself, at least in the short term. I have bought some Perineal Massage Oli from Mothercare so I haven't really got any excuse to delay starting it. I will give it a go and report back.

And I have heard loads of women saying how they had to get their OH to tidy up their downstairs. Well I can state categorically that definitely won't be happening in this house. We have these marvellous inventions called mirrors in our house which will prevent the necessity for this.

Janey I thought you wanted ELCS whatever happens?

janey1234 · 05/05/2013 10:48

I do - but they haven't agreed to it yet, so I still don't know what will happen and whether I need to think about all this stuff...

Cavort · 05/05/2013 11:00

I thought that if your consultant is not comfortable performing an ELCS then they have an obligation to refer you to one that will? If it's what you want then there shouldn't be any question of whether you are 'allowed' to have it. It's the Mother's call.

janey1234 · 05/05/2013 11:04

Those are the new nice guidelines - until oct 2011 unbelievably the mother had no right to a choice. I will of course fight for it and am good at getting my own way but it just feels weird until I get the definite yes. I will of course point out that if they refuse it, that's fine, but if there are any complications I will of course hold them responsible Wink Am really hoping for a yes, just won't know until 36 weeks...
