tired if you are going to brave work, just take it steady.
Have a lined waste paper bin next to you in case of emergencies. Good luck

stuffthenonsense · 11/04/2013 08:13

Happy Birthday getoffthecoffeetable

Dizzy81 · 11/04/2013 08:18

Boy, I'm soo sorry. Xx 💐

Thought I'd pop in and say hello, hope everyone's feeling ok?

I'm plodding along and want to know when my scan is. Knowing my luck it will be on my birthday in may.

Xxx

JBrd · 11/04/2013 08:56

Envy of all your scan dates. I haven't even had my booking appt yet, although with any luck the midwife is going to get the scan requested before that. I keep having the feeling that I'm running out of time, don't know why.
My new company won't be too happy about me having to take time off for all the appointments, I guess... Ah well, nothing I can do about that.

getoffHappy birthday, the weekend break with spa sounds heavenly! More Envy Be careful with the spa, though, and you might find that most beauticians won't touch you with a barge pole if you're still in the first trimester, they don't like that at all.

Boy Hope you're doing OK, will you go to the EPU today?

My last day at work today, yay!

Fairydogmother · 11/04/2013 09:00

happy birthday getoff!

i'm afraid you arent allowed to use a heated pool such as a jacuzzi or if they have a heated swimming pool. you also cant have any massage! sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings! but you could maybe have a manicure or pedicure.

have a lovely time tho

OneLittleToddleTerror · 11/04/2013 09:24

boy I'm so sorry to hear another one of us is out.

getoff happy birthday. You can have facials too. I don't think that's not recommended?

I bought a bag of salt and vinegar rice cracker today. It's guilt free snacking isn't it?

OneLittleToddleTerror · 11/04/2013 09:24

I mean snack a jack rice cake. Those really low fat ones! They are delicious.

Animol · 11/04/2013 09:41

So sorry to hear you news Boy hope you're OK

will I'm 42 - feel a bit ancient but fortunately no arthritis yet - all the best

starting to feel a bit less sick. At night I'm always either freezing or boiling - why?!

Fairydogmother · 11/04/2013 10:00

i called the maternity unit about screening for downs syndrome. they said that they do not routinely mention it unless you're over 35 (i'll be 34 in a few weeks). its a triple blood test and not a scan. i said that a friend of mine who is 30 was given a leaflet at her first scan and the midwife said they dont do that?! err well she got info otherwise how would she have known about it!

i said that we wanted the test so shes to speak to a doctor and call me back. i think its a bit unfair not to make people aware of their choices especially whenever i'm nearly at the cutoff date anyway

PoppySeedBun · 11/04/2013 10:52

Hi everyone,

Just popping in to say I'm off this thread - MMC this week. Should have been 9 weeks, but actually more like 6 from the scan.
Had ERPC yesterday and at home recovering today. Somehow it helps that it actually happened very early, and that it all was still feeling a bit unreal anyway.

Thanks for all the messages and support from here - this has been a great bunch to be part of, and good luck for everyone for the future.

berrybomb · 11/04/2013 10:56

I'm so sorry poppy and boymeets. It's so sad to see you go. take care of yourselves.

re: nuchal scan. In my area, we have to make a decision at the booking in whether we'd like it or not, regardless of our age - my 21 year old friend from work got offered it just the same as me (I'm 31). It's scary how different everything is based on where you live!!

berrybomb · 11/04/2013 10:58

My spotting seems to have slowed down today, or at least it's more of a light pinky colour, which feels much better than yesterday's red.

JBrd · 11/04/2013 10:59

Fairy I'm a bit Shock that you have to jump through hoops to get the test! Surely anyone should be able to get it, when they ask for it. The blood test is done in combination with the nuchal fold measurement, which they normally do at your 12-week scan, and the results are combined to give the overall risk for downs. I though that this was routinely done on the NHS by now, but I'm obviously wrong. (Maybe I'm getting it mixed up because I'm older, so they seem to do the Downs test automatically?) Don't feel embarrassed to push for it!

I'm in the freezing camp, I can't seem to get warm at the moment. But that still doesn't prevent me from waking up soaked in sweat every morning!

I'm trying not to freak out at the moment - I had some spotting when I went to the loo earlier... All brown and def 'old' blood, but that's exactly how it started with my mc. Really scared at the moment, but there is nothing I can do Sad

OneLittleToddleTerror · 11/04/2013 11:08

jbrd it seems fairy's trust doesn't do the combined nuchal fold + blood test. It's only a the triple blood test. I had the quadruple blood test last time only as I missed the 12 week scan. From what I recalled on my NHS antenatal test booklet, the triple blood test is less accurate than the quadraple blood test. (I guess it tests for 3 things vs 4 things)?

I can't find the info online, other than on wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_test

It seems it's 70% sensitive vs 80%. Sensitivity means it's predicting 70% of downs babies as having downs. Both tests have a 5% false positive rate.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 11/04/2013 11:08

Sorry to hear about your bad news too poppy. It seems to be bad news day today, isn't it?

Fairydogmother · 11/04/2013 12:00

so sorry to hear that poppy. all the best Flowers

they dont offer the nuchal scan here - no idea why. i can pay privately but seriously dont need the expense. no idea why they only do the triple test as opposed to the quadruple test either. prob something to do with our outdated religious based laws that stifle everything in NI!

its done at 15 weeks so i've to go in on 21 May for blood to be taken.

i'm actually pretty annoyed about the whole thing - yet again we dont get the same care and attention that others in the UK get!

BoyMeetsWorld · 11/04/2013 12:09

Ladies, there is hope!

Just got out of A&E, found a fab gynae dr who pushed everything through. Despite still having bad cramps & bleeding...there was a baby on the scan, with a heartbeat!!! Exactly where it was meant to be and only 3 days under expected size, which I'm happy to take for now. Sonographer checked and no bleeding around baby so goodness knows why I've got it...but all that matters is for today at least I'm still pregnant :) :) :)

Thank you all so so much for your messages. And Poppy...I'm so sorry, having had a mc before and being so sure it was all over this time, I know how you're feeling. Be kind to yourself and massive good luck going forward xxx

OneLittleToddleTerror · 11/04/2013 12:10

OMG such great news boy. I'm so glad you got someone who took you seriously in A&E. Will you be getting more scan because of this bleeding?

Fairy I was outraged when I hear the abortion is not allowed in NI. I can't believe we could have such different laws in one country! And I think you might be right about the religious angle. My friend in Sweden said they don't do any down's screening because they don't support aborting foetus due to down's. She has to come to London for a 12-week scan. The strange thing is if things are found to be not right in London, she could ask for an abortion in Sweden. It's all very very odd.

berrybomb · 11/04/2013 12:13

Yay!! Congrats Fairy, that's great news.

berrybomb · 11/04/2013 12:13

I clearly meant boymeets - I'm having a baby brain day!

BoyMeetsWorld · 11/04/2013 12:18

Haha that's ok berry, thank you Grin

And OneLittle - I'm booked in for next weds at the EPU (that was the earliest they could give me this morning before dr referred me). DH thinks I should keep that appointment for a 2nd check if the bleeding carries on until then, & then leave well alone until the 12 week scan. What do you guys think? I've got the appointment already but is it OTT to have another one a week later, is it unfair on others trying to book - and could it damage baby to have two scans so close together?

Lying in bed ATM swinging between crying and smiling with relief. Still for a hot water bottle though!

berrybomb · 11/04/2013 12:20

boymeets, if it was me, I'd keep the scan for Wednesday, to keep me reassured, and in case there is more bleeding. Unless your 12 week scan is only a couple of weeks away.

Fairydogmother · 11/04/2013 12:20

boy thats fabulous news! everything crossed for you

one its ridiculous over here - old male bigoted politicians make decisions that affect our lives. i had a termination and had to travel to london for it at a cost of over £1000. it was our choice to do that and whilst i'm not proud of it we had our reasons.

i was denied my human right of choice in my own country tho and i'm bitter about that

Lucky13ForBaby · 11/04/2013 12:23
