Aww, firsttimemummy that's lovely. Were your bosses pleased for you?
fairy so pleased your scan went well.
tired how far along are you? I'm 10+3 today and am paranoid I won't be within the nuchal fold test deadlines. My MW is a bit haphazard! Also DH really wants to be there - as he should be - and he'll need more than ten minutes notice for work!
bizzy all I've done is eat all day should really be working
I've put on 3lbs but I fluctuate between 2-4lbs during the month anyway so am not too concerned yet
williamina you're on your own with the chocolate milkshake, can't even drink plain milk at the moment and usually love it. I drank an excessive amount of strawberry Nesquick when I was pregnant with DS. Sorted out my heartburn for all of two seconds

firsttimemummy don't worry about not showing yet. in my experience tall people tend to show later and have smaller bumps as there is more space for baby I guess.

fairy that is lovely news

getoff I will be 8 weeks tomorrow, so quite a bit behind you. I didn't have nuchal test last time though and don't know if I want to this time (still pondering the issue) so I am not so concerned about timings for the scan. maybe you could call if you still haven't heard, just to check they haven't missed. I agree, you need a bit of notice!

boymeetsworld you can get the ketostix on amazon or from pharmacies, they are used by people with diabetes too. I don't exactly understand the science (maybe ask on the hyperemesis thread) but the decision to admit me to hospital was based on high ketone levels. I really struggle with the car journey to hospital so I have ordered some in the hope I then only go in if it is necessary, and equally I guess so I don't struggle on when I need treatment. hope the Dr appointment is helpful for you.

am at home today, have kept food down and just trying to rest and recover a bit as I feel awful after the weekend (didn't get much sleep in hospital as people vomiting all night in the ward!)

OneLittleToddleTerror · 09/04/2013 14:08

firsttimemummy if it's your first pregnancy, it'll take longer to show. I feel really ridiculous that I couldn't fit into my trousers around 10 weeks. I haven't even seen a scan/heartbeat! And also tiredfeet might be right. I'm quite petite so there probably isn't much space in there except going foward. I remember asking the sonographer how they could date a baby from size given they are all different sizes. She told me they are all about the same at this early strange. It's very strange to think it's true, given how widely their weight differs by due date.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 09/04/2013 14:09

I mean given our breads are all about the same size now, they are relatively bigger on us smaller ladies. But by the end of the pregnancy, they'll grow into their appropriate sizes.

suffolk I couldn't believe it when I was in hospital with dd, morning after she was born our ward turned into a market street with salesperson after salesperson trying to sell us stuff!! The cheek of it! Preying on the vunerable women who have just had babies, it was ridiculous!
I must say though I did enjoy the freebies in the bounty packs, but didn't sign up for anything.

Hi all,

Jbird - I've been signed off work for a week! Came as a bit of a shock. & given prochlorperazine maleate but have to say I don't fancy it as I'm not 100% it's totally risk free for pg - think ill have a day or two rest then try it if still awful. Have to see dr again thurs anyway.

On a plus - she didn't seem worried about any of my other issues & has booked me in for midwife!

Bounty - I do quite like their /offers page - some good stuff on there. Don't remember feeling particularly bombarded after DS but don't think I'd actually join up, just take any freebies I can! What do they try to sell you in the hospital? DS was born at Stafford Doom Hospital (of recent news fame) & I was so quick to get out of there the Bounty bods would've had no chance to grab me!

OneLittleToddleTerror · 09/04/2013 15:08

They pestered me for photos I think. And I got a bounty card with DD's name, birthdate and weight on it. I don't remember how I got the card. I agree with the bit they got me when I clearly wasn't thinking. I had a 2.5 day labour (no sleep) and another sleepless night in the postnatal ward, so expected.

getoffthecoffeetable · 09/04/2013 18:29

They left me alone for the first day as DS was in neonatal. Then they pestered us for photos. They came when inlaws were visiting so they bought the full package (first grandchild). We did have some lovely photos from them and sent them to relatives etc with our thank you cards.

Saundy · 09/04/2013 19:21

Good evening ladies!

That's great news all round Will, Tired & Fairy! I hope you start to feel better soon Boy.

Mines your ribcage gets bigger?! Is that one of those inevitable things?? Do I need to just kiss my 30" ribcage & 26" waist goodbye forever - is it time to prepare?!

MsFP I hope the interview went well.

FirstTime I was like that too!! I couldn't even make my Drs appt without crying when I told the receptionist what it was for. Massive surge of inappropriate emotional responses that I'm only just getting a handle on now! It is so embarrassing!!!

I'm 9+4 & most of my symptoms have gone, oh the relief. I actually had moments today when I didn't feel pregnant. Just as well as am back at work properly now & really have to get my head out my backside & back in the game.

Something else I'm clueless about & hope someone can enlighten me. I was told if you use oil you can prevent tearing when giving birth. I know it's early to be thinking about that but I'm totally confused about the logistics of that. What oil, exactly where & when?!

BoyMeetsWorld · 09/04/2013 19:28

Saundy - I think you mean perineum massage? I think you just do that from week 30 (?) but it only really works if 1st baby? Someone may come along and correct me on that...

Saundy · 09/04/2013 19:43

Boy I've no idea what I mean haha

berrybomb · 09/04/2013 19:46

Is that why my DP keeps offering to 'oil my dirty bridge'!?

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 09/04/2013 19:52

saundy I did perineal massage when pregnant with dd. I had no tears so can't complain. I don't think it hugely matters which oil you use, the most important thing is that you stretch the tissues.
I'd put it out of your mind till the 3rd trimester, no point starting before week 30.

I'm pissed off, I've gained about 1/2 stone in weight and have no bump at all. Just seem to be slightly fatter everywhere. Scan is this Sat and I'm so worried about it.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 09/04/2013 19:52

Grin at oil my dirty bridge

getoffthecoffeetable · 09/04/2013 19:59

Grin at dirty bridge too!
saundy we got told to use olive oil. Try explaining to DH why the stuff for cooking's in the bathroom!
I wouldn't worry about it until third trimester. It's all a bit grim, lots of stretching to do. If you google perineum massage it'll come up with an NCT tutorial on how to do it - don't worry, no foofoos are on display!
Good luck with your scan when
Still not got mine, aargh ! I know the MW said it'd take two weeks but I honestly thought she was kidding!

MummaPanda · 09/04/2013 20:20

Hehehee, foofoo's and dirty bridges oh my Wink never bothered with the perineal massage, but wouldn't have made a difference if I did it or not as I had a big fat episiotomy, aparently I had very strong vagina muscles Grin and dd had a big head lol

Fairydogmother · 09/04/2013 20:34

I've just thought - nobody mentione nuchal scans or blood tests for Down's syndrome today??!! Err I forgot to ask Confused

getoffthecoffeetable · 09/04/2013 21:02

fairy it should've been one of the questions your MW asked at booking in. You can always check with her.

Fairydogmother · 09/04/2013 21:21

She def didn't mention it. To I've just read that we don't get the same tests in NI as you get in the rest of the uk. They did take 3 vials of blood so perhaps that's the only test I get?

I'll have to check

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 09/04/2013 21:21

fairy they don't offer nuchael translucency where I live. They've not even given me a scan date on the nhs yet. My Saturday scan is private, going to set me back £185 Sad.

Got my booking in appointment tomorrow so hopefully I'll get a bit more into then.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 09/04/2013 21:22

fairy that post was meant to say they might not offer it where you live, would explain why they didn't mention it.

firsttimemummyy · 09/04/2013 21:24

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. I am a bit of a bean pole (5ft 9) and this is my first so I'll try to stop worrying and just enjoy still fitting into my clothes while it lasts!

Also laughing at the oiling of the dirty bridge!
