Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Saundy - no idea if the ribcage thing happens to everyone. I am tall, so didn't think there would be that much space related pressure that the baby would push the ribs out! Was a bit shocked afterwards to realise that none of my old bras would remotely do up anymore. I used to be pretty pear shaped though - really much smaller on my top, so maybe that was partly why?

Fab to hear that you're keeping food down Tired - the thought of feeling really sick, and being on a ward of ladies who are all being sick, sounds horrendous. What a sure fire way to make anyone feel worse. Great that you are home and recovering.

Boy I hope things improve for you soon. Good to know you can rest up this week.

Great news Will and Fairy too.

I went to the Ob/gyn today and had another scan. Amazing how much more baby like it looks after only 3 weeks. Was also remeasured and have had my dates moved back by 4 days, so I'm now 9+3 (again!). Due date 9th Nov. So fab to see it - makes it seem much more real.
Also found out that I have put on 2.5kg in 3 weeks (approx 5-6lbs) - eek! Didn't realise that I'd even been eating that much. Glad I don't have any scales at home.

Minesahotchocolate · 09/04/2013 21:34

First - Def don't worry about not showing - it'll all come in time, of that there is no doubt! I wouldn't say that I'm showing at all at the moment. My main problem is that my delightful jelly belly from preg 1 is being pushed out, making me look (even) fatter - and that is what is making me need to unbutton my jeans. If I had my old figure, from pre-DD, then I would still have a relatively toned stomach and wouldn't be having this problem! I remember it did seem to take ages to get a proper bump the first time round when my stomach muscles still worked.

busyprocrastinating · 09/04/2013 21:36

Hi all I have been reading but not had chance to post whilst on holiday. Back to reality and a big pile of washing now Sad
I have got my scan date through for next week. I am so scared because they will be taking my blood and that is all I can think about but it will be good to check that there is something there. It might make it feel more real! Will also be nice to be able to tell people finally.

With re to Bounty I still get 'urgent' emails from them telling me to complete my registration. The woman who came to take photos whilst I was in hospital was so rude. I tried to tell her I didn't want one but she was having none of it and I was too tired to insist. Then after taking a few of DD she said 'well it isn't very nice but it is the best I can do with that' Shock She was lucky DH wasn't there!

OneLittleToddleTerror · 09/04/2013 21:38

fairy I have heard the same where the downs screening is not offered in every trust. I think upthread we also swapped note and found out some trusts give 3 scans as standard, while others do only 2. It is all a bit of a postcode lottery.

getoffthecoffeetable · 09/04/2013 21:45

fairy our trust didn't offer it when I was pregnant with DS so we had a private scan done. We had that one first and got a lovely DVD of the jellybean to keep and a really nice consultant to talk it all through with us.
It's not something you have to have.

Fairydogmother · 09/04/2013 22:05

Trusts over here only do 2 scans as well. I would prefer to know the risk factor if possible so I'll give them a call. My friends who's just given birth at the same hospital as I go to said she'd been assessed as low risk so they must have done something by way of bloods.

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 10/04/2013 00:53

Hi all, glad to hear so many are doing well and getting scans booked in.
We have the 12 week scan next Weds, the 17th, so looking forward to that. It isn't standard here in the US to do the nuchal fold test so we had to request it. I'm having it because that's what I had with DD in the UK last time, I sort of wanted both babies to have the same things!

Good news re sizes after having a baby. Bizarrely my hips are narrower than they were before DD! It is weird as I am(was) the same weight as before but my old trousers and jeans don't fit any more. On the plus side, maybe they will once I get a bit fatter with this baby!

I am eating loads at the moment and lots of sweet stuff - yum!

MissTweed · 10/04/2013 07:31

Morning all Brew, when are people planning to tell family etc? I am 12 w on thurs and have my scan on Monday. My folks will be at my house sun/mon so I can tell them (along with photo on Monday as scan is at 8:30) but dilemma is that BIL is staying at ours on fri and I know my DH would love to tell him to his face. Would you tell then or wait until after the scan??

MotherOfCleo · 10/04/2013 07:39

tweed we had an early scan an told people afterwards. Its tricky isnt it. Hmm

Im 10 weeks today.....my 12 week scan seems so far away Confused

Saundy · 10/04/2013 07:40

Good morning everyone am currently trying & failing to motivate myself to get out of bed for work.

Has anybody noticed that they're a tad more aggressive than they were? I think I must have snapped at my boss at least 3 times yesterday so I need to watch myself. Am normally so easy going, I am struggling to keep a handle on it.

Lovely scan news Mines & I don't know how you kept your cool Busy if someone said that to me (especially in my current state) it would not be a smart move.

Remember that song where they go 'dirty bit' well it's stuck in my head except as 'dirty bridge' lol.

Right I'm far too tired but it's time to face the world, thank god for flexi time!

Saundy · 10/04/2013 07:42

MissT I would & did just tell, you'll probably find it impossible not to anyway!

harverina · 10/04/2013 07:49

Morning Brew

Saundy, my rib cage doesn't seem to be different based on my bra size etc however I am probably fairly big built - plus I am 5ft9 so not sure if this has any bearing on it, probably.

Re. Bounty I declined photos last time but signed up. You know, looking back I didn't really question them and just did it as if it was a requirement! This time who knows, I do hate the idea of salespeople getting access to the hospital though, that's appalling! Do they pay the Nhs?

My nausea was horrific last night. I ate quite a big dinner which I haven't been able to so recently so don't think that helped. I often feel that my food is sitting in my throat after eating a meal, does anyone else experience this?

Just getting ready to drop dd at mils so is better go, am already late! Anyone else finding mornings and the whole getting ready business a real chore? Role on trimester 2 cause I felt fantastic last time and is better feel the same this time!!

Boy I wouldn't worry about you not showing. My friend is now 17 weeks and she is still in her size 10's. she has a bump now though but jeans are underneath

harverina · 10/04/2013 07:52

Tweed its they are people close to you I would be inclined to tell them. I have told a few people including close family, close friends and some work colleagues/friends. Haven't told wider circle of friends or boss or Facebook! They can all wait until after my 12 week scan Grin

10+4...wonder what I will be dated at at my scan?

harverina · 10/04/2013 07:52

Sorry to post again but yes saundy I am more inclined to snap and feel incredibly grumpy a lot Shock

BoyMeetsWorld · 10/04/2013 08:28

Morning all!

Saundy, hope you're up and about now! I'm actually a bit jealous of those who are at work...

I'm on Day 2 of bed rest & I'm hating it. It must be doing something right as if I stay absolutely still I feel ok but the second I move the dreaded nausea returns. I'd love to go back the day after tomorrow (or I'll start losing pay which we can't really afford) but i don't see how bed rest can 'cure' this? Still adamantly holding out on the meds until the v last moment.

For all those not showing yet...I'm definitely not, though only 7 weeks (today!) in fact I've lost so much weight with this ms, my tummy is flatter than ever. Is that worrying? I can't locate my uterus or whatever it is we're meant to feel...but then I do have a v tipped uterus so does that make a difference?

Have a great day everyone (or as great as possible)!

BoyMeetsWorld · 10/04/2013 08:29

Ps) what type of photos do bounty people take and when do they make you pay?? I suppose it would be quite nice to have pics of new snugly baby in hospital but can't imagine they'd get v nice pics in that environment?

berrybomb · 10/04/2013 08:41

Morning all, looking for a bit of reassurance! I woke up this morning to some bright red spotting when I wiped. There's been nothing since, but it's freaked me out a bit. There was no sex, so it can't be that! There's no cramps either. I'm trying so hard not to let Dr Google diagnose it. The last bleed was dark brown, so this feels a bit different.

Also, a lady at work I work closely with is off with shingles. Eek.

JBrd · 10/04/2013 09:09

berry If it was just a one-off spotting, I wouldn't worry, especially if you have nothing else - easier said than done, I know! Very common in early pregnancy.

Boy Good to hear that you're taking it easy, fingers crossed the ms improves soon. And loosing weight in the first trimester is also very normal, esp if you have bad ms! If it's your first, it'll most probably quite a while before there'll be a noticeable bump.

Saundy Yes to being snappy! I have a zero tolerance level these days, poor DH and DS are at the receiving end of it Confused

We've already told DH's parents and two of my best friends (pregnancy buddies from last time), but none of his 3 siblings know. Told me family at Easter, because my sister was here and I like being able to tell people in person (well, my mum and brother were told over the phone, but they live abroad, so it couldn't be helped).
We're going to SIL's wedding on Friday, so will probably tell DH's siblings then, but no one else. I want to wait at least until the 12 week scan, possibly even longer.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 10/04/2013 09:18

berry I agree with jbrd that if it's one off, don't worry about it.

fairy they might do the blood test only in your trust? Have a look at the following page. It's the section on the quadruple test
www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/screening-amniocentesis-downs-syndrome.aspx

I've got a booklet from the NHS on the antenatal tests. It says the quadruple test is not as accurate as the combined nuchal fold + blood test. That's why more and more trusts are opting to do the combined test. (Ofc we now have the harmony test which afaik is a non-invasive diagnostic test. This is only available privately atm). You might want to pay for a private combined test if you feel you might be higher risk.

berrybomb · 10/04/2013 09:32

Thanks guys :-) I had no idea pregnancy would be so worrysome!

Animol · 10/04/2013 09:34

Hi berry - I agree with jbird too - try not to worry

I'm dying to tell people -went out with some friends at weekend - two are about 6months pregnant and all we talked about was birth and pregnancy and it was sooo hard not telling them! We've decided to wait till 12 weeks and the next scan - 9 weeks today - yippee.

Is anyone else not having the nuchal test or AC ? I'm already a very high risk for Down Syndrome because of my age but we've decided against it.

Saundy · 10/04/2013 09:35

Berry try not to worry, it's quite common by all accounts.

Am up & on my way Boy a sudden bout of ms got me moving - maybe that's why you get it! Sorry you're still feeling rubbish, it does sound as though meds may be the only realistic way to manage it.

JB I would seriously reconsider announcing a pregnancy at someone's wedding, I know a couple of brides who this happened to & they were seriously pissed off about someone stealing their thunder. Unless you dislike your SiL, then go for it!

You know I've never seen one of those bounty key rings & thought what a lovely pic of a baby. They're far to new & red & wrinkly I think to be able to take a nice pic. I'm not a fan. It's nice as a personal pic but not to send out.

Glad I'm not the only mardy cow, hopefully that'll go in the mythical 2nd tri too!

Saundy · 10/04/2013 09:36

I think I'm having the test Animol I'm quite against it but DP thinks its better to be prepared so I'm picking my battles wisely!

JBrd · 10/04/2013 09:41

Saundy Oh, that's a good point about telling people at the wedding, I hdan't thought of that! Hmmm... Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with that, if I was the bride, but my SIL is quite immature and a total bridezilla, thinking that all the world evolves around at the moment is her wedding, so this could well be an issue! Will have to re-think that one. Darn. How can people possibly disagree that me being pg is the most important thing in the world Wink ?!

getoffthecoffeetable · 10/04/2013 09:43

Morning all. Feel like a washer woman today, all the usual washing and then my maternity stuff out of the loft.
saundy I get snappy too. Usually about sleep, I just can't get DH to understand that I go to bed earlier so I can get extra sleep, it's not so that he gets a lie in as I went to bed earlier!
Feeling a bit off today.
