Oh no Soupqueen, I'm keeping my fingers crossed x

Smitten1981 · 11/04/2013 14:38

Oh God soupqueen, hope the further tests will prove it's nothing, try not to go into full-on panic mode. There's so many things it could be, hopefully you'll be ok as the measurement was well in the normal range.

Mine was 2.9mm and I've had so many blocked calls since my NT on Monday, my blood runs cold everytime one comes in thinking it's the midwife.

legallyblond · 11/04/2013 14:58

Soup queen - what a horrible call and what a worry. I am amazed they left it so late to call. I was categorically told that if the risk is worse than 1 in 200, you will get a call within 2 days.... I hope all is fine. How long to CVS results take. Also, is that the one where you have to rest afterwards in case of bleeding etc (excuse blunt questions, just don't know much about it)? Sending thoughts....

Further to my comments above re not finding out sex.... We're wavering!! Really want to check both twins are ok, so considering a 16/17wprivate scan... It would be a "sexing" scan.... Argh, torn!

Soupqueen · 11/04/2013 15:17

I should get the results within 5 working days. Yes, need to rest afterwards. There is a miscarriage risk. Can't have the test any earlier as I'm moving house on Monday so it's the earliest I'd be able to take it easy for a day! Next week is going to be crap.

Warlin · 11/04/2013 15:49

soupqueen how scary for you. I don't understand though, I thought they gave the risk factor then and there...did you get the blood tests done too? We just did the scan so I'm worried too as my nuchal measurement was also 1.7.

How scary for you. Really hope the CVS is ok and not too uncomfortable. And moving house too? Make sure you take care of yourself.

I'm sure it is just a precaution though and everything will turn out ok. Are you volunteering for the CVS or did they recommend it?

I'm in NI and because abortion is illegal here they aren't good at looking for things wrong with the baby and telling you. It really makes me cross as they won't even do nuchal here on the NHS. We had to go privately. They do offer CVS and amnio but if you wanted to terminate you'd have to travel to England. I think that's so wrong.

Anyway sorry for the personal rant. I have everything crossed for you and wishing you good vibes. Good luck with the move Flowers

legallyblond · 11/04/2013 16:00

Warlin, the norm in England tends to be NT scan plus they take bloods on the scan day. You then get a "risk" factor calculated based on NT plus your bloods plus your age. My understanding was, although obviously this didn't happen exactly for Soupqueen, that if you are "high risk" (worse than 1 in 200) you get a call with 2 days. If you are lower risk, you get full results in a letter a week or so later. NT of 1.7 is low/normal, so please don't worry - as Soup said, it was her bloods that pushed the risk factor up.

Soupqueen · 11/04/2013 16:02

Thanks Warlin. Yes, it was the blood tests that increased the risk. They didn't express a view on whether we should have the tests but I think we really need to know. I just hope that its all ok as I think DH and I have different views about what we should do if it isn't.

I'm sure you'll be fine, I think it's quite unusual to have such a good NT and then a risk factor like mine.

I can't believe they make it so hard for you in NI. I know how it is in Eire but hadn't imagined that NI would be the same.

legallyblond · 11/04/2013 16:02

Soup if you need to "think aloud" on here, just go ahead!!!

Natalieand · 11/04/2013 16:19

Wow soup can't image how u must be feeling as like you say after 2 days u think u have the all clear I no I said to dh after two days everything must be good testing wise and we got our result today (I also scanned on 3rd April) 1:8180. At least u have been offered the further testing ASAP to give you a definitive answer. Is it a 1:57 risk for downs or 1:57 for all chromosomal abnormalities ?

moonblues · 11/04/2013 16:24

Hi Soupqueen
Sorry about your worrying results. Remember though 1 in 57 means there's a 98% chance that everything is normal.
Thinking of you.

legallyblond · 11/04/2013 16:30

Exactly, 56 times out of 57, the baby would be fine with your results (or 98.25 times out of 100)....

HotSoupDumpling · 11/04/2013 16:52

Fellow soup buddy, sorry to hear about the result and the stressful situation, but as the other ladies say, hopefully it will all turn out well in the end. The statistics are in your favour.

We're still awaiting our results - five working days, the hospital said (but three whole weeks before an all clear letter!)

Warlin, don't get me started on abortion rights, I won't be able to stop! Completely agree that the situation is unbelievable, and just penalises those who can't afford a trip and private care in England.

MotherOfNations · 11/04/2013 16:56

Aww soupqueen I know how you're feeling but I'm sure e erything will be fine. My NT measurement was 10mm at 11 weeks. I was meant to have a CVS today but have cancelled in favour of the amnio.
My consultant wasn't keen to combine my scan results with a blood test as she said that based on the NT alone my risk factor would come back extremely high.
As moon and legally have said, the odds are still in your favour.

moonblues · 11/04/2013 17:03

Sorry 'normal' wasn't the right word to use. I hope I haven't offended anybody - I didn't mean to. :(

Soupqueen · 11/04/2013 17:06

The odds are in my favour, I'm trying to focus on that. However, even if the CVS comes back clear and doesn't cause miscarriage, there is still the risk of something wrong with the placenta which may or may not be serious. The CVS won't diagnose that, the midwives have moved my 20 week scan to 18 weeks to try and have a closer look.

Nothing I can do, so may as well go and pack some more boxes.

Thanks all Smile

OrangeBlossom2 · 11/04/2013 17:24

Welcome scraggyspanner!

Soup so sorry to hear about your worrying phone call. As everyone has said, 98% is a very good chance that all is ok and its good they will check the placenta a couple of weeks earlier for you, but obviously still a very stressful time for you. Do please try to take it easy with the stress of moving house too. You must look after yourself and your little one. No moving heavy boxes! (I have been using this excuse not to life the tiniest thing, every the Hoover!) and unpacking can certainly wait a few weeks once you are in.

MotherOfNations · 11/04/2013 17:27

moonblues you certainly didn't offend me. What other word is there really? I've been telling myself off for saying it too though.

Tarlia · 11/04/2013 17:32

Oh soupqueen I'm sorry to hear your worrying news. Just remember, any one of us could be that "1". Are you an older mother as that pushes up the blood results.

For the person that asked trisomy 21 is down syndrome.

Nat my NT was 2mm and 1: 13,000 (there were a few more numbers but we don't get it written down here) I'm 30. My NT last time with DS was 1:600 something.

I also had a surprise last time, but this time we won't. Im a Babygro person for at least the first 3-6 months which people find strange and no jeans until closer to 1year and even then only the jersey waisted type. We will buy a couple of 'colour coded' outfits after we find out the sex but baby will mostly be in neutrals and blues until 3 months as then our clothes supply become very boyish. Also love Next's sheep range and their giraffe Babygro's - DS is obsessed with 'warfs'.

Tarlia · 11/04/2013 17:34

Urg, just read that back, I mean even with a 1:50,000 result there is still a risk. I'm really sorry they took so long, it seems so mean :(

Flyer747 · 11/04/2013 17:40

Soup...sorry to hear of your worrying news, I hope all will be ok sending you lots of positive vibes :-)

I've got my topshop maternity jeans on today and although still a little big they are so comfy, it beats wearing leggings which is what I've been living in of recent.

I just went for a lovely facial and Swedish massage it was so relaxing and just what the doctor ordered...unfortunately my car decided to die about a mile from home and I had to walk! I love spending my hard earned cash on car stuff...

OrangeBlossom2 · 11/04/2013 17:40

Did no one else hear a heartbeat at their twelve week scan then? We did and saw a jagged line to show it on the screen at our private scan but maybe the nhs machines don't do it. I was looking forward to hearing it again at my nhs scan next week but I won't panic if it is silent then!

OrangeBlossom2 · 11/04/2013 17:42

Ps that sounding like showing off, it wasn't meant to, I am just curious that lots of you are talking about hearing heart beat at 16 week check up. Blush

Flyer747 · 11/04/2013 17:43

Orange I had my scan yesterday and heard no HB in fact the sonographer hardly showed me anything much.....I had to ask for the nuchal fold measurement and even then she didn't want to give it out...

Wickedgirl · 11/04/2013 18:04

Orange...... I don't think the NHS 12 week scan includes listening to the heart beat

I heard it at my scan because I too went private. I don't have much faith in the NHS early scans

Wickedgirl · 11/04/2013 18:07

Soup........I hope everything goes well for you x

Smitten....I too had an NT measurement of 2.9. Fingers crossed that we are "just" on the higher side of normal for no reason and it will right itself
