here we all are... hoping for nice clear 20w. scans, not too much inadvertent weeing and getting that 'glow'...

I got boots opaque black tights which are actually really good...just struggling to find good neutrals for the summer now!

jennimoo · 22/04/2013 19:08

This time I was told the sex right at the start but last time I had a student who was too busy concentrating to ask if we wanted to know, so didn't find out til we asked at the end.

I'm sure they'd be happy to tell you at the end, if that's what makes you comfortable.

frogchops · 22/04/2013 19:08

Dietcoke... When we asked at clinic scan (altho I'm way down the Edd list I think I was maybe first to find out due to harmony test at 15+4 ish) she told us as soon as I asked. If you don't want to know the sex till the end, maybe don't ask till the end?! I know that sounds obvious but surely they won't say anything till u ask?

andadietcoke · 22/04/2013 19:10

frog it does sound obvious but at my hospital there are signs everywhere saying if you want to know you have to ask at the beginning of the scan - I think it's so they don't waste time looking if you don't want to know?

HettySunshine · 22/04/2013 19:41

I've got my scan on Friday morning and I can't wait! I've managed to convince myself there is something wrong as I don't think I have got much bigger over the last week or two and after feeling what I was sure were little flutters about 10 days ago I haven't felt anything since. Has anyone else had flutters and then not?

PurplePoppySeed · 22/04/2013 19:56

Thanks Belvedere Yey movement finally at 19 weeks Grin

fl0b0t · 22/04/2013 20:06

Thanks all for clothing suggestions! I think I'm getting unduly stressed about it!

purplepoppyseed- afriad Isabella Oliver is way out of my price range (especially as I need a couple of outfits), but will take a look in Long Tall Sally again!

REady- I have bought a couple of salwar kameez online and am hoping they may fit- it's too late to get anything made of fited sadly (wedding very soon, and info was only sent a week ago!!!)

CharlW my hormones hae been a bit up and down this week too (first time really). I'm sick of everyone. Friends, family, the stinky smoking man on the train.....

lexyma good luck at the new job!!

Got my first REAL kicks today. I thought it was wind when I looke dback on it, but then I think baby has been kicking ym intestines, giving me wind!!

frogchops · 22/04/2013 20:10

I've had no movements, no flutters, nothing. Have been having really painful wind pain though. The kind that stops you in your tracks until it comes out goes.

SGJ · 22/04/2013 21:09

Jammy - glad you've got clarification about the talipes - I had no idea it was so common, 1 in 1000 babies, apparently. Which probably means there are lots of support groups and people who can give you useful info. And you got to see baby twice in one day, how lovely!

JammyTummy · 22/04/2013 21:31

I am just doing the daft thing we all do at the slightest sign of trouble: dr google!!! Bad bad! Info ranges from 'I massaged baby's foot and it fixed itself' to 'baby has to wear shoes with metal rods for up to four years' Confused. Must stop that, especially as I don't really know which kind of talipes we have. I just keep telling myself how lucky we are it's not something more serious.

On the subject of tights- I wore an old trusty M&S pair all day today, with the tummy part rolled down. Worked a treat.

Btw, is everybody's hair long and luscious as promised? Cause mine is breaking really badly at the ends (even though recently cut) but I've also grown lots of new hair, which sticks out around the rest cause its too short to lie down! Humph...

MammaGnomes · 22/04/2013 21:57

Jammy I have just spent 45mins washing drying and straightening my hair and it's greasier than before I startedAngry not sure if its hormones or too much conditioner!! Have done it now so I can have an extra hour in bed tomorrow now will have to get up grrrrr

CheeseStrawCraving · 22/04/2013 22:05

Hi y'all! Well we have some good news and some not-so-sure news... We are firmly in the blue team here, very pleased to have found out! But... Sonographer said that the abdominal circumference and the femur length were above the high end ranges, which dated baby at 21+5 (I'm 20+1 today). Soooo either the dates originally were wrong, or I have a giant baby Hmm or I have gestational diabetes.... The trouble with the dates being wrong is that is then pushes the nuchal stats out. In a nutshell, I'm having bloods for diabetes, although they don't do them until 28 weeks so we figure they can't be that worried, right? Also, they did say that it was all proportionally larger, if you see what I mean, and that I might be just having a larger baby as I'm 5ft 10" and DH is 6ft 2".... Anyone heard of this situation before that can advise?

Dorita75 · 22/04/2013 22:13

Step away from Dr google jammy ! Listen to what the professionals told you today!

Great scan news all round from today, well done ladies!

No movements here either yet frog just awful wind and stinky farts that DP is just loving as I stick my bum out the side of the bed!

On the tights issue, I've just been wearing normal ones but have snipped down into the waistband, 2 at front, 2 at back, just far enough but not going through to the actual tights leg bit, it's working so far...

Creamtea1 · 22/04/2013 23:08

Jammy - yes to breaking hair and being left with bizarre looking short sticky up strands!

Eeeknumber3 · 23/04/2013 07:44

diet when I've been to ante natal clinic at Macclesfield I've noticed a big bossy sign stating, that if you want to know the sex at 20 week scan you must ask at the beginning of the scan, lord knows why!

On the hair and skin front both of mine are disgusting, greasy and spotty, not glowing!

Eeeknumber3 · 23/04/2013 07:48

cheese I wouldn't get too concerned, they told me my DS was a giant at the 20 week scan, with a huge head and long legs. I was then monitored with regular scans and glucose tolerance tests for diabetes. They told me at 38 weeks he was going to be 12lb plus! He was born on his due date weighing 9lb! It's happened to lots of my friends too, your bub has probably just had a growth surge....

andadietcoke · 23/04/2013 07:51

Eek yep - same at Stepping Hill. Going to say at the beginning that I want to know but ask that they tell me at the end. They can only say no.

JammyTummy · 23/04/2013 08:50

I can't get this bloody Talipes out of my head. I woke up at 4.30 this morning when I got horrible cramp in my leg and couldn't get back to sleep. I ended up working myself into complete hysterics over baby's poor little foot. Ended up sobbing while dusting and hoovering at quarter to six in the morning. I do feel so bad for being so freaked out by this, knowing that there are far worse conditions, but the thought of baby having to wear a foot brace for 23 hours a day for the first three months of her life, then every night to sleep till she's 4 fills me with complete fear. And I also know that there is a 'good type' of talipes (positional) which requires nothing more than a bit of physio, but they can't tell you till after baby is born! I really don't want to spend the next four months feeling like this!

LCR77 · 23/04/2013 10:18

Another one with a scan this week, Friday morning. Very excited, nervous as I'm sure everyone else is. We're going to find out the flavour...just want the little wriggler to be ok.

Although say wriggler no movement as yet but found out my placenta is at the front which can cushion the kicks and wriggles.

Had a couple of scares (plus previous mc) including a threatened miscarriage because of bleeding couple weeks ago and a nasty sickness bug last week. Just want to know they're alright and healthy...

Haven't bought anything yet as a little superstitious so want to start getting prepared as soon as. Having the maternity leave chat today at work too, they're pretty supportive so hoping they'll agree to part-time hours when I come back.

CheeseStrawCraving · 23/04/2013 13:49

Ah thanks Eek, I've had thoughts of that 13lb baby article from a couple of weeks ago... The thought of delivering that naturally makes me cross my legs!!

I know it's so easy to say Jammy, but try not to worry, you will only up your blood pressure which is not good for either of you. Look at it this way, if bubba is wearing a brace or similar from birth then they won't know any differently - it will only be mum and dad worrying and the likelihood is your child will just get on with it and you'll be wondering what you ever worried about in the first place!

CheeseStrawCraving · 23/04/2013 13:51

ION, tried new Kiddicare today, slightly overwhelming for a first-timer, especially on opening day! Disappointed not to get any great first-day offers, but they are currently running a nationwide promotion for 15% off of all pushchairs/prams/travel systems if anybody needs one... Any they price-match everywhere and give you 25% refund if you find it anywhere else cheaper so can't go wrong really!

frogchops · 23/04/2013 15:24

Quick vote on what u would do....DP an I obviously found out the sex at 15week harmony. We didnt tell anyone (altho my dad knows that we know) my dad has now said he doesn't want to know (along with my step mum)
We decided that at 20 weeks, if sex is confirmed we would share with people. (Dp is desperte to tell his family!) But obviously this risks my dad and co finding out. If he finds out if like to be the one to tell him rather than family gossip. But he's adamant he doesn't want to know. What would you do?

andadietcoke · 23/04/2013 15:51

My friend's mum didn't want to know but literally everyone else did. Friend had to be very very careful about what she said and who she told in case they would run into her mum. She even had to come up with girl names (that her mum hated and caused a massive row, even though she knew she was having a boy and she was never having a child called this name!).

I think I'd still want to tell people who wanted to know but then my friends rarely see my parents and we don't have anyone who doesn't want to know.

frogchops · 23/04/2013 16:04

See, there's no way if I tell the rest if my family that my dad won't find out. I don't want someone else to slip it out to him. (There's even some not very nice people in my family who would say something just to spite) my mum reckons that its my baby and I tell who I want and if he finds out then so be it. I might have to explain this to him though an give him the option of finding out from me. What a palava.

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 23/04/2013 16:21

fozzie h&m maternity tights have been just the business.
