Will this one take us through to the end of the first trimester? Will the sickness ever end? Will we be able to judge genders from those first scan pictures? These and many other mysteries to be solved in... THREAD 4

jelly that's great! Ill race you Wink ! The dildo cam was unpleasant but I think it was meant to be part of it anyway. It was ready and waiting in all its glory when I entered the room. And it would explain them not wanting me to drink anything. Hopefully by 20 weeks, the next one, we won't need it.

Now got to think about telling people. I don't really want to pop it on Facebook yet. Hmm....

Congrats umlauf! Very jealous, but just less than a week now until mine!

smitten I am the same. Dreading them whipping out the dildo cam for my scan!

PseudoBadger · 22/03/2013 12:49

Yes it really is a shitter Sal....

Natalieand · 22/03/2013 13:03

Congrats on the scan umlauf glad everything is coming along nicely! Extremely jel u r 13 weeks and I'm only 10+2 lol. I'm half expecting to have my days put back as when I had my scan at 5 weeks she put me back 8 days and said edd is 24/10 but not to put it down in writing as bean is so small the early it's near on impossible to accurately measure so is more of a guesstimate so I'm sticking with my edd from my lmp until I'm told otherwise (as my 12 week scan is based on lmp date as ill be exactly 12 weeks on scan day)

Who else is scanning today? Love to hear all the scanning stories

Sal1977 · 22/03/2013 13:06

Sorry if that sounded insensitive, but Seriously Badger, I can totally understand your anxiety, I had a MC about 18 months ago but way way earlier than you and that was crap. Everyone gets hung up on the 12 week mark and you're safe if you pass that, blah blah blah, but we're trying to wait til the 20 week scan before telling anyone other than immediate family and closeset friends. Definitely not doing a big announce on FB!!

34PinkLadyApple · 22/03/2013 13:54

Afternoon ladies

Loving the scan pics bowl, Char1 and umlauf Not loving the sound of minge-cam... at least you got to see your bub though umlauf, it's got such a cute little button nose!

hayle sorry you are feeling rubbish today Flowers

funkky we are now due date buddies for Sep 25th! Smile

Quick question - had the nuchal scan and blood test done on tuesday morning, would I have heard by now if it was a bad result? My NT measurement was 1.6mm (which I googled and is normal for a 65mm baby) but obviously they put that into the computer with my blood and weight and age etc. Has anyone had theirs back and how long did it take? My MW said 'about 48 hrs for a bad result' so am I safe now?

I had egg and chips for dinner last night Confused. I always make sure the snotty bit around the yoke is cooked (as I can't bear the thought of eating it cos of the texture) by flipping it over for a bit... It was lion marked but worried no after cherrys post.

Any other scans today?

TheFalconsmistress · 22/03/2013 14:09

congrats umlauf we are around the same date :)

Sorry if tmi but i had loads of shooting pains up my fanjo today so much so i called antenatal triage Blush apparently all is well and this is normal so if anyone else is getting what feels like electric shocks up there dont worry!!

I was also sick as a dog in Morrison's toilet while doing my shopping today! nothing for weeks then today its all go she must be on a growth spurt!!

Haylebop12 · 22/03/2013 14:34

falcon yes I've had that, not recently though. Took my breath away!

2w 4d till my scan :-( come on time go faster.

Have had a 3 hour nap and feeling better. Have taken some more tabs and had a cuppa and some cheese on toast. So far so good......

cherrycherry41 · 22/03/2013 14:37

34 didnt mean to worry anyone with my quite sharp comment! Sad
I had poached egg, lion stamped and it was very slippery and yoke was very runny- i shouldnt have ate it but i took the advice from a mumsnetter that if eggs were lion stamped you were ok to have them runny. I ate them about 11am and by 3.30pm it had kicked in so i'd say you have nothing to worry about!
No one warns you that food poisioning can give you baceterial infections that can be extremely dangerous to your health they just say make sure eggs/chicken are cooked through- which means no runny yolk just to make sure!
Would not wish what i managed to get on anyone, even my worst enemy!

11+5 today and ive got a little bump! can feel it when i lie down its a hard little 'pot belly' just above my pubic bone! Starting to believe theres a baby in there Grin

Rockchick1984 · 22/03/2013 14:46

Cherry was your infection anything to do with being pregnant or would you have got it if you had eaten the same egg while not pregnant (if that makes sense)? I've never heard of eating eggs with a runny white still, my midwife advises that a runny yolk is fine though!

MOTU · 22/03/2013 15:38

Right, very bad lurker here just popping in to say had my scan, all well, adjusted date to 8th oct, little bugger wouldn't stay still at all so the photos are all a bit random! Just thought I'd add another happy result to our thread stats!

Wickedgirl · 22/03/2013 16:05

I had my early scan today and saw one tiny baby with a nice, strong heartbeat.

My dates have moved from 14th oct to 9th....so instead of being 10+4, I am now 11+2

I am very happy

Iheartcrunchiebars · 22/03/2013 16:09

Congrats to today's scanning ladies. So lovely to hear everything is safe and well.

pinksky · 22/03/2013 16:09

Congratulations, MOTU and Wickedgirl wonderful news! And you are now nearly due date buddies. Will you update the stats thread?

cherrycherry41 · 22/03/2013 16:10

Rockchick it would have been unlikely i would have developed the infection were i not pregnant- my immune system would have 'kicked its ass' and apart from a bit of runny poo id have been fine. The consultant i had in hospital specialised in bacterial infections and he dismissed the midwifes view of 'its ok' to a certain number of risk foods as even though the risk is low (even though significantly higher whilst pregnant than your non-preggo self) you can still contract a number of diseases and infections not conpletely following the advice given. He see pregnant women come into the infectious diseases ward on a daily basis, it happens. He quite rightly suggested most midwives are not experts in every area and only have a basic knowledge of a number of things- harsh but true. I have a follow up appointment on 4th apr to check me over since my admission so i'll ask him what the actual risks are with 'high risk' foods during pregnancy xx

Smitten1981 · 22/03/2013 16:17

Falcons I often wonder if the sickness is something to do with them growing. Most days I'm fine, but others (like yesterday) I'll feel so nauseous all day. Back to being fine today though - phew. I can't complain, one day a week is much better than my previous 5/7 days of sickness.

I wonder if there's any correlation? Does anyone know?

34PinkLadyApple · 22/03/2013 16:45

Hey cherry, don;t feel bad, glad of ALL advice, scarey or not! I think it's prob wroth avoiding any type of runny egg isn't. Hard boiled/fried/poached all the way for me now. Not worth the risk aye!

I'm off home to cook a rather large Chicken Stew and Dumplings with warm crusty bread! It is effing freezing in Essex (there's no snow yet).

HotSoupDumpling · 22/03/2013 16:49

Oh god, totally jels of the chicken stew and dumplings 34 . But too morning sick (hah! 'evening sick') to think about cooking anything remotely imaginative!

TheFalconsmistress · 22/03/2013 16:55

smitten I am convinced it must be to do with growth with me the now posed it to the midwife she said could be.

Congrats motu and wickedgirl the 9th is my birthday half hoped baby bump due date would be then as my sons birthday is the day as my mums! DD is 29th sep so still might be!

thethreeblondies · 22/03/2013 17:19

Hi ladies, about 9+4 here and feeling rubbish, was proper sick today (and at my grandmas with my sister who neither know!) managed to hide it, just! Now I've got really bad indegestion and I haven't even ate the spag boll I have planned for tea! Sorry for the moan but DH is getting all the moaning of how knackered and bleugh I feel in rl, he did send me some lovely texts earlier when I was poorly though Smile and he cleaned the kitchen last night after I had gone to bed!

notsoold · 22/03/2013 17:38

Blondies....poor you!!!
Had an early scan ( private) today and now the dates agree...9 wweks and edd 25th October. As my dcs are always late I might be pushing to November so now I am in both threads!!!
Strong heartbeat and everything seems ok

Umlauf congratulations!!! Did they give you the figures then???

SeriousStuff · 22/03/2013 17:48

34 I'm with you on warming, comfort food today - I'm making steak and ale pie and sticky toffee pudding. Can't wait to eat it, but really can't be bothered to cook at the moment!

SeriousStuff · 22/03/2013 17:49

Oh, and great news MOTU and Wicked !

pinksky · 22/03/2013 17:49

Oh yay thethreeblondies and notsoold -- similar EDDs to me. I was feeling woefully behind everyone. I'm guessing I might be Nov also, given it's my first.

Sorry for people still suffering with MS. smitten one paper I read hypothesised a link to placental development. Not sure if the link will work, but here. A [[http://www.cks.nhs.uk/CksContent/TopicReview/PreviousVersions/nausea_vomiting_in_pregnancy.pdf separate review summarises the argument:

Another hypothesis is that maintaining low levels of insulin in the first trimester of pregnancy is vital to early placental development [Huxley, 2000]. Human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) has been shown to activate the thyroid, stimulating the production and release of thyroxine, a stimulator of placental growth. Insulin has been reported to inhibit hCG production in the first trimester and therefore hinder placental growth.

But in reality I think very little is known!

pinksky · 22/03/2013 17:53

Oops, second link is: www.cks.nhs.uk/CksContent/TopicReview/PreviousVersions/nausea_vomiting_in_pregnancy.pdf but there might be a more recent doc somewhere.
