Well after my scissor incident which I'm sure you all remember GrinI have gone for using hubby's hair trimmer (number 1 as he uses number 2 on his head) no stubble close enough to preserve some hair for fighting infections etc and easy to do with no risk of cutting/hurting etc... I did read no hair removal cream on genitals and I think it says it on all the packaging and tubs as I'm sure I thought about that before hubby suggested hair trimmers x

learnermummy · 21/03/2013 17:16

I also have a bikini trimmer which is good! Lying down seems to flatten out bump a bit so I can see too.

cyclecamper · 21/03/2013 17:33

I only trim the bit that would poke out of the leg of my (all in one) swimsuit and I can still manage that. I did actually shave my legs on tuesday for the first time in a while. I went swimming today so that was worth it (husband doesn't care about legs and finds too much shaving creepy - he says he likes grown ups! Grin). I joined the local swimming pool and gym yesterday and went for a gym induction and swim today, which was nice.

AlohaMama · 21/03/2013 17:52

bikini waxing while pregnant??!! ouch! I had to give that up as it was way more painful as I was so much more sensitive. Currently dh uses bikini trimmers, apparently he enjoys it Hmm, I just have to rein him in so he doesn't go too far. He's also a dab hand at waxing my legs and is getting more practised with painting my toe nails!! At this rate he can have a 2nd career as a beauty therapist!

MrsBri · 21/03/2013 17:53

I'm still shaving, but by touch more than sight...hoping to avoid injury. I imagine it looks more than a little haphazard down there!! :-) DH didn't seem too keen on taking the job on, so will keep going until I just can't anymore.

My midwife friend did say they're not too worried about that kind of thing. But clean feet are essential!

LexiLexi · 21/03/2013 18:15

I'm using a bikini trimmer and a strategically-placed mirror, which seems to work quite well for now. AlohaMama very impressed with your DH's skills, not sure I'd be brave enough to let DP loose with the nail varnish- happily my cheap and cheerful Barry M seems to be quite chip resistant!

btw, MrsBri I asked the midwife how long the somersaults go on for and apparently it could be up til the end of week 37...I think baby has learned to swim recently as I'm getting kicks both sides of my bump simultaneously

AlohaMama · 21/03/2013 18:24

Lexi, he doesn't do a perfect job but I figured with practise...

DontmindifIdo · 21/03/2013 18:47

well I've shaved (rather scary to do ) as I couldn't get a wax appointment and we went swimming last weekend with DS, however letting that regrow and getting back to the waxer. Yes it hurts more, but have chocolate cake in the house back home as your treat to yourself afterwards.

I have read, however, that the reason they don't shave you in labour any more is that woman who are full bushed at childbirth actually have less infections in stitches than those who are clean shaven/waxed, the hair does have a purpose it seems (although they aren't entirely sure how it protects you, just that it does). So whatever tidying up method you go for, from about 34 weeks, stop and embrace the full on 70s porn style muff in time for childbirth....

Aloha I read that out to my DP and asked when he was taking up training!

I keep meaning to get a mirror I can leave in the bathroom for trimming purposes. Like many a thing lately I keep forgetting.

MrsBri · 21/03/2013 19:43

Lexi, that's not what I wanted to hear! I assumed - clearly naively - that Baby B would run out of room sooner than that. :-/

Thankfully today is a quiet day after mentalism yesterday!

I doubt I'll be able to shave even at, let alone after, 34 weeks, so I'll embrace the muff, I reckon :-)

AmIGoingMad · 21/03/2013 19:44

Mirror and decent trimmer will need to go on my to buy list Smile

redwellybluewelly · 21/03/2013 20:10

Baby got hiccups on the way home, cute, what was odd was dd also had hiccups!

DH out tonight so dd and I curled up in bed together to read books. Dd had bear and then saw I didn't have a cuddly so got back out of bed, found another cuddly, gave it to me and told me to get reading!

Forgot to get any munchies for tonights rubbish tv watching so you'll all have to keep me occupied!

pinkbear82 · 21/03/2013 20:19

Awww redwelly that's priceless!

DP suffering with a tooth infection. Nothing worse than toothache but goodness me, I've offered to take the bloody tooth out myself if it saves the moaning and cost
Think I may have left my sympathy somewhere else.

Think it might be me getting wound up over my first counselling session tomorrow. Just that whole meeting someone new and being able to open up. It will be worth it eventually tho.

pinkapples · 21/03/2013 20:42

Awww pink good luck for tomorrow let us know how it goes

Anyone gone in for this talking to baby/letting it listen to music? How are you doing it if so? Just turning te music up or directing it at the bump etc would be interested to know

AlohaMama · 21/03/2013 20:47

Grin @ embracing the 70s porn style muff!!

Good luck tomorrow pinkbear.

as for listening to music/talking. Hmm no not really. I figure baby can probably hear us talk without having to specifically feel like we're taking to it. DH did talk to belly with ds and does occasionally remember to talk to the bump. DS says hello and night night and gives it kisses! We'll see if he's still so loving once she's actually here!

learnermummy · 21/03/2013 21:03

Ooh just found home birth programme on itv Smile

redwellybluewelly · 21/03/2013 21:09

Baby likes music but I haven't spent anytime sending it specific toones. However I do hum a tune I picked up at yoga last time which is meant to soothe and if they get used to it can be used to calm them when they are earth side as well. Didn't work with dd but then she was a very sick baby and then a very cross baby!

Dd says hello and bye bye to baby and it does respond to dd talking ans dh talking. Its very loved already and it gets a lot of attention!

Anyone else having issues with dry skin? My hands are so bad they are bleeding allover my desk and clothed!

redwellybluewelly · 21/03/2013 21:11

Good luck pink. Also re the tooth infection has he seen a dentist? Ive had two tooth infections aand they were more painful than labour.

pinkbear82 · 21/03/2013 21:23

Thanks for all the luck - I've had cbt before and found it really useful. So probably not as nervous as I could be, but it's everything it brings up and feeling a bit emotional all ready. Had a bit of a teary moment over cooking tea because it means using two saucepans and a frying pan...... I know, I don't get it either.

Redwelly I did manage to get him to a dentist earlier - he has a massive fear and hasn't been in years. He needs two teeth out and some fillings. He's got antibiotics for now as the infection is affecting two teeth but the one he's feeling it in is a good tooth and she was reluctant to take that out just to solve pain.
Think it will be sedation and hand holding to get him back - but think he'll listen to my nagging pleas to get it all sorted now.

I occasionally have a little chat with bump. But haven't really thought about doing anything else. Have a feeling it's first words might be 'no dog' he's testing patience tonight. The dog, not the bump! Wink

maisiebeem · 21/03/2013 21:37

I'm a nursery nurse, so everyday am singing and reading stories, so I pretend I'm singing and reading to my little one instead! DH tries to talk directly to bump every morning and night, he always puts on a strange voice though- which I don't think he realises he does! And we play music to it most mornings, as we slowly wake up. What ever music dh feels like listening too- most recently Jason mraz- which little one seems to like!
I am goin to purchase new trimmer and a "do not move from bathroom" mirror!

AlohaMama · 21/03/2013 21:59

Finally succumbed to buying more maternity clothes after realising that my one pair of jeans and 2 skirts plus a couple of dresses weren't quite enough. I hate spending money on something that lasts for such a short space of time! Fortunately a friend sent me a big box of her old maternity clothes now she's done having babies, so now I think I'm all set. Less worries about naked babies here, more about naked mummy.

Littlemissexpecting · 22/03/2013 02:46

Aloha I know the feeling its really annoying buying more clothes at this stage. I'm starting to look at clothes suitable for breast feeding & tops are so expensive. Not really sure what I need. I've even looked on eBay and can't believe nursing tops go for so high! Been looking at vest tops as it will be summer but I prob won't want my flabby tummy on show!
Anyone else awake? I've just had some toast and a choc milkshake!!

redwellybluewelly · 22/03/2013 04:15

I'm awake.

Dd woke at 3am and although its dh settling her I can't sleep. Too much on my mind.

AlohaMama · 22/03/2013 05:16

I'm awake!! But then it is only 7 pm here. Still feels like it's nearly bed time. So hot, I just want to lie under a fan and melt.

littlemiss do you really need specific nursing tops? If you've got something to kind of cover up on top then surely lots of 'normal' tops work? Or am I missing something? If you want summer stuff, strapless is easy.

pinkapples · 22/03/2013 06:25

Oh good that I'm not alone on the talking front I manage a day nursery Maisie so I kind of feel the same if she can hear then what she's getting is nursery rhymes books and daft voices with puppets hehe
