sounds lovely SunnyL, hope the weather stays nice for you.

MrsBri · 08/04/2013 10:11

Good that your cough is leaving, learner...hopefully you avoid any further germs.

Sunny, I'm going to do the one day NHS antenatal and am just waiting to be booked in. May call them now, actually.

Hope you have a lovely break :-)

Littlemiss, I don't envy you your busy weeks. I cannot face busy right now. I've gone very lazy. :-/

I'm also 30 weeks, on Thursday. Still umming and ahhing over work options. May just agree to work from home for a further few weeks. Though motivation is lacking somewhat!!

Very impressed with Kiddicare and Interlink. Cot bed ordered on Friday and dispatched 50 minutes after order. Had a text with delivery time estimate of 9.59-10.59 at about half 8 this morning. 9.59 arrives and van shows up. Lovely. So much better than City Link!

redwellybluewelly · 08/04/2013 12:32

I pulled rank last night as I had had one decent nights sleep in five nights (including the trip away where hotel had pounding disco till 3am) and so was handed dd at 7.30am but feel so SO much better for proper rest. Pelvis is holding up so long as I move slowly, have done the washing, putting away, sorted dd's clothes out and I'm actually embarrassed about how many she has, two huge armfuls into sacks that she has grown out of. Also done the food shop but have decided from next week its online shops only. Mainly due to dd being a terror.

SunnyL · 08/04/2013 13:36

Did my NHS antenatal this morning. Hmmmm it was ok. I learnt a bit. One thing i did learn was we can use the birthing centre and be trasnferred to the wards if i want an epidural. Originally i had been told you had no option of an epidural if you went to the birthing centre. The birthing centre is a MUCH nicer atmosphere - looks a lot like the nice rooms on One Born Every Minute and is meant to be a home from home experience.

No real chance to speak to any of the other couples which was a little disappointing since we are new to the area and looking for new friends.

Can't remember who was told off by their midwife for weight gain but it certainly wasn't my midwife. She was struggling to put some of the visual aids on the floor because she was so obese so had me at 31 weeks preggers doing it for her. of course none of the dads to be thoug about offering

Really quite glad I've booked the NCT classes now. It's over two 1 day sessions so should be plenty opportunities to get to know other mums to be.

grainmum · 08/04/2013 15:10

Having a bit of a catch up, sorry to hear about everybody's sore bits and stresses with work! I had my first NHS ante-natal class last week, I've also signed up for NCT too. Firstly only the Mums are allowed - I thought they were meant to encourage supportive birth partners! Secondly the mid-wife didn't have enough of all the hand-outs for everyone - and we had to book in advance so no excuse really. Thirdly she had a model pelvis but no baby to go in it (although she did have some flip-charts with good pictures to demonstrate). I was quite disappointed that the style was very much a lecture and there wasn't a lot of interaction or opportunity to ask about things that were bothering us. The physio for the second half of the session was much better. I'll be really interested to hear other people's experiences.

DH can only get to half the NCT ones as after we booked they changed the dates without letting us know (except for a "just to confirm your course" e-mail) after he had finalised his work schedule for this 6 months! Hoping it will be lovely to make up for the administrative short-comings!

learnermummy · 08/04/2013 15:24

NCT classes are much better than the NHS ones. I made great friends doing NCT classes first time around. Unfortunately we've moved twice since then though!

Littlemissexpecting · 08/04/2013 18:44

Grain I would be asking for some of your money back or an email of complaint. That is really bad to change the date after taking your money.
You will be ok on your own though at nct. I've had to go to a couple on my own due to DHs shifts.
I am not expecting much from the nhs ones, apparently there can be up to 30 couples on it at a time!! nct only has 7 or 8.

redwellybluewelly · 08/04/2013 19:29

I know I wasn't the only one with a MW appt today, how did others get on?

Mine comes under the heading of 'interesting' as MW is convinced I won't be making it to 39weeks! Baby is measuring two weeks ahead and very low although as yet not engaged, I also get BH which I'm having to deep breathe through and as I didn't have those with dc#1 she thinks that my body is getting ready. I was told to have my bag packed from 34weeks and also to get to delivery suite ASAP if the BH come more regularly or if my waters break!

pinkapples · 08/04/2013 19:29

I went to a labour one with nhs last week that was good only 5 couples and it was really informative plus your of birthing centre. Mind you chairs were really uncomfortable!

pinkapples · 08/04/2013 19:31

Oh no red that's definitely what I'd call interesting I'm 31 weeks tomorrow and have mine at 10am tomorrow morning so well see what happens

Littlemissexpecting · 08/04/2013 19:34

Red I'm not sure if interesting is the word, I would be terrified!!
Fingers crossed lo stays put for a few more weeks yet.

MrsBri · 08/04/2013 20:05

Bloody hell, redwelly, that's 'interesting' indeed!

Could your dates be wrong? Or just a tall, eager, baby?!

My appointment went well. She was very concerned about my train faint last week and checked everything for a reason, but couldn't find one.

Baby B is transverse, but there's loads of time to turn! She said they will only be concerned if he hasn't turned in a few weeks.

I've decided it is best to keep working for now, but will be at home from now on, which is rather good :-) Anything which saves me doing the commute is great.

I'll probably finish on 3rd, rather than 10th May though. Which will actually mean my mat leave will start 4 days earlier, which isn't too bad, thanks to the bank holiday.

Sarah2506 · 08/04/2013 21:11

So I'm 30+4 tomorrow and am seeing the GP instead of the midwife cos that's just what happens. Has anyone else had this? Can't help but think he will be a bit useless and won't have all the stuff to test wee, blood pressure, measure bump etc. Then whopping cough jab, any bad reactions to that among us?!

Littlemissexpecting · 08/04/2013 21:15

No bad reactions just a sore arm. Make sure you get it on the side you don't sleep on!!

MrsBri · 08/04/2013 21:16

I don't see the GP at all, so that's curious. Have to let us know how it goes.

Now I'll be at home, I'll book my whooping cough jab for next week, I think.

MrsBri · 08/04/2013 21:16

What if you sleep on both sides, like I do?!

pinkapples · 08/04/2013 21:43

I had mine on the same arm I have my booster thingy you know the big one that leaves a dent (not a clue what it's called it's completely left me) BCG I think... Anyhoo an I don't know if its a reaction or not but my dent is now not a dent it is now raised slightly hehe so who knows and yea I can second that it does hurt a day or two after

I see mixture of gp and midwife. Different areas have different approaches. Gp been great, had all the equipment. Got sneaky scan today as midwife thought head was down but wanted to double check so dr did scan on a lap top... Very cool! Just back from nct, really nice group and good atmosphere. Am also doing active birth workshop on sat. Hope all appointments go well for you all!

redwellybluewelly · 08/04/2013 22:18

I only see midwife or consultant although at my previous surgery in my first pg the GP did do one appt around 20weeks. No idea why.

Note to self must book WC jab, especially if this baby is considering arriving a few weeks sooner than expected.

AlohaMama · 09/04/2013 02:31

ooooh redwelly are you going to be the first!!? Hope baby decides to hold on a little bit longer for you.

Just trying to catch up after a hectic but fun week away. It was great (swam with dolphins, went up volcano etc etc.) but definitely feel like I'm overdoing it right now. Having visitors with all the extra cleaning, plus DS's 2nd birthday yesterday means I keep getting pains under the bump and backache. Only 3 days till the visitors leave...

Sorry to hear of the various work stresses going on. I am ready to leave right now, we're do under-staffed and there is lots going on. My boss thinks we can handle it, but fails to appreciate the difficulties of having to find someone to help everytime I need to lift something etc. Meanwhile he's away so all his work falls to me and my 1 colleague.

Had ob apt this morning but may have messed up my glucose test as due to pregnancy/sleepiness/general stupidness I drank the glucose drink then promptly went and had something to eat before they took the bloods Blush Hoping it will come back negative then it won't matter. Have also been referred for extra ultrasound within next few wks to check baby's size so happy about that as it will give us another chance to see her, plus be prepared if she's gonna be a big'un.

AlohaMama · 09/04/2013 02:31

Sorry for long essay, that's what comes of not catching up properly for weeks!!

Littlemissexpecting · 09/04/2013 06:28

Aloha holiday sounds fab! Good your getting another scan too.
Is the glucose test standard for everyone or just if you show high? My mw hasn't mentioned anything.
I agree on the visitor front its hard work at the minute tidying up before they come, when they leave etc. I'm dreading my family visiting once lo makes an appearance.

AlohaMama · 09/04/2013 06:34

In the US it is standard for everyone at 30 weeks. I don't show any symptoms so hoping it will come out negative. Visitors have been great in some ways as it means ds has got to know his cousins, but 2.5 wks is a long time to be a cook/cleaner/tour guide etc. Plus I feel kind of bad for ds who feels a bit invaded, all his toys taken over, crib taken over by his cousin, and house just over-run!! I think I'm a bit of an un-gracious host right now.

RueDeWakening · 09/04/2013 07:34

Aloha did they take fasting bloods first? If so, eating shouldn't make too much difference. If you drank the gloop before the first test then it might show too much sugar. Good luck, hope you get a rest once your visitors have gone.
