Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thanks for maternity nightwear tips, have found some I like in M&P so will order those online, we've a tiny tiny store near us so was wondering if I can take things back to in store rather than have to faff getting items sent back? Anyone know?

Finished work for Easter today, oh the relief at a week off!

Those comparing dates to leave I do wish now I was leaving a bit sooner but I was originally working until 31st May, now its the 24th May as I have some leave to take. Baby will be here first week of June. Bump is so low I am now concerned about driving later on, I can brake and accelerate but its so uncomfy to drive for more than twenty minutes or so.

As yet haven't bought anything at all for this baby, feeling quite mean!

MrsBri · 27/03/2013 20:08

Redwelly, their website says you can return to a store, so that's good :-)

A week off is perfect, isn't it? Can't wait to relax for a short while before the home straight!

I have to book my whooping cough jab separately, but every surgery is different. I can only have mine on a Tuesday or Friday morning too. Useful. :-/

And City, my commute is one of the reasons I'm stopping at 34, not 37, weeks. I am also fed up of it!

SunnyL · 27/03/2013 20:47

Took your lead Redwelly. Been getting grumpy at about 3am at pj's riding up so just bought some pj's on Mamas and Papas. I'm tight and didn't want to spend £30 on a pair of pj's for just 3 months so their 3 for 2 offer was tempting. Surprised some of the cheaper places like New Look haven't bothered with pj's. Are we meant to be sobbing around in our husbands oversized t-shirts or something? Chance would be a fine thing as my DH is a skinny ratbag

Hawkmoth · 27/03/2013 20:54

Huhpuh, thanks for the tip! I have sensitive arms so will just pull my pants down and hope for the best!

28 week appointment with MW today. Not being seen again for six weeks!! All fine and measuring spot on for dates, though I feel huge.

She couldn't get my bloods. It was awful. Not my usual MW. She tried where she 'knew' there was a vein.... Then moved the needle. Then wiggled it. Then pulled and pushed at the vial. Then STOPPED when I went grey and said, "ooh I feel a bit sweaty, can you stop now?"

It took two hours, a hot vim to, mini cheddars and half a pack of chocolate raisins for me to stop feeling woozy... And I am sooooo not squeamish! What joy. Hope she's not there for the birth, though she was very lovely!

Mawgatron · 27/03/2013 21:13

Getting a bit concerned about all this talk about measuring- I haven't been measured yet! Do they measure your bump? I have been to all my appointments so am now getting paranoid! Gonna see if I can have my whooping cough jab at my next appointment on the 5th.

Littlemissexpecting · 27/03/2013 21:28

City I had to phone my gp surgery and book it with one of the nurses. Not sure why the mw's can't do it tbh.
My arm is really hurting now. No wonder baby's have a restless night after their jabs. I feel like a wimp and DH keeps reminding me labour will be worse. Anyone watching obem?

Sunbeam18 · 27/03/2013 22:01

City, my mw just provided info about the whooping cough vaccine. It's up to you if you choose to have it or not. They advocate having it as there is some kind of epidemic at the moment - it's to give the baby immunity in it's first few months. If you choose to get it then you need to book it with a nurse at your GP practice when you are between 28 and 32 weeks pregnant.

Mawgatron · 27/03/2013 22:05

Hands up who had a little cry at OBEM...

RueDeWakening · 27/03/2013 22:10

Mawg - I've not been measured either, in fact I've barely seen a MW at all (2 mins max per appointment, no chance to ask her any questions - had to send the nurse off to find her for me last time as I had stuff to check!). I have got another growth scan tomorrow though, so I figured that's why they weren't measuring this time.

City - I have to book mine through my GP, I asked at my last appointment about it and got told the MWs don't do them and to arrange directly. I'm definitely getting it, a friend's DD nearly died of whooping cough in the autumn, she caught it at 5 weeks old and was in intensive care for weeks.

Littlemissexpecting · 27/03/2013 22:10

Cry? I'm sobbing!! So so sad but such a brave couple.

RueDeWakening · 27/03/2013 22:12

And I haven't watched OBEM, too triggering after stillbirth and NICU experience last time. I think the couple are incredibly brave for sharing their story though and I hope it helps them - I've found it's helped a lot to talk about what happened to us, even though I know other people find it difficult.

Sunbeam18 · 27/03/2013 23:55

Where is good to get hold of nightwear for hospital? And what nightwear will we need?

MrsBri · 28/03/2013 00:13

I've bought a twin pack of strappy nighties from Mothercare with detachable straps for feeding. They were 24 quid. You don't want anything too toasty in there!

ella0 · 28/03/2013 01:09

SunnyL, I'm having a girl and I'm carrying only at the front!

Thanks for the tip, huhpuh, I'm having my whooping cough jab next week. My midwife advised me to book in for it at my 28 week appointment; appointments are very random so I could only get one for three weeks after I tried to book one.

I've got a week off at Easter and then only 2 1/2 weeks in work before I finish (I have annual leave to use up before I start maternity leave). I'll be 34 weeks when I finish - I'm 30 weeks now.

I'm managing to wear normal pjs in a larger size; they have an adjustable waist which is good as I haven't put weight on anywhere other than my chest and bump. I've bought button down nighties for my hospital bag/ nursing though.

Mawgatron, they've measured me since my 25 week appointment. I was measuring small at my 25 week appt and spot on at my 28 week appt.

pinkapples · 28/03/2013 06:23

I also haven't been measured at all mw felt bump at 28 week and said was progressing well next apt on the 9th at 31 weeks so maybe she'll do it then

Have OBEm on record still deciding if ill watch it

learnermummy · 28/03/2013 07:16

I don't think measuring the bump is seen as particularly accurate so not always done. I had independent midwife last time and was never measured.
M&S is good for strappy nursing nighties too, about £12 each.
I also have OBEM on record and deciding whether to watch. Sorry to hear about your past experiences Rue.

MrsBri · 28/03/2013 07:38

In relation to the whooping cough jab, 28-32 weeks is the optimum time, but you can have it up to 38 weeks. I'm annoyed at my surgery for being less than helpful in assisting me to have it at the preferable time. The (pregnant) receptionist was very 'computer says no' about it :-/

Sorry about your past experiences, Rue.

Baby B has changed sides overnight and is now on the left after camping on the right for ages. It's odd being attacked on the other side!

forgetmenots · 28/03/2013 07:56

I don't think I can watch OBEM, not at the moment. I've thought long an hard about it because I think what they have done is really brave and important.

I've got nothing but admiration for the bravery of the couple involved - but I kind of feel I would be watching it just thinking 'that could happen to me', which is only upsetting me and also would be taking away from their very real grief in quite a selfish way, rather than understanding their situation if you see what I mean.

Maybe if I wasn't as far along I would watch. I think though when people talk about stillbirth awareness, I find it strange because that means there must be some mums who don't understand the risks? I may just be neurotic but it's in my mind a lot of the time (have had a friend go through it very late on), and so I'm not sure watching would have any positive effect on me.

I've donated to SANDS instead.

forgetmenots · 28/03/2013 08:00

PS just saw your post Rue, so very sorry to hear you have been though that Thanks - I'm so glad you've been able to share and found that a helpful part of the process. ((Un-MN hug))

pinkapples · 28/03/2013 08:49

I think I will watch it as apparently the couple knew there was something wrong when they went for the 20 week scan so as a couple hubby and I are passed that as we know there is nothing physically wrong with baby

Hubby and I are not to worried about the birth etc its the bit after that worries me hubby lost a sister to SIDS at 4 month old so we are really worried ill be like a zombie for the first year as I won't sleep for fear of the worst happening

MrsBri · 28/03/2013 08:53

Forget, I think about it quite a bit too, which isn't ideal, but I can't help it.

I keep telling myself that problems happen for the very small minority and the odds really are in our favour.

Would ignorance be bliss though? :-/

forgetmenots · 28/03/2013 08:57

I know exactly what you mean mrsbri, on one hand you want to be aware and understand, on another it becomes a source of anxiety - I've weighed it up and felt pretty selfish either way but have decided I can't, I will just worry, even though I know this is a very sad reality.

MrsBri · 28/03/2013 09:07

We can worry together then, forget, as I try not to let DH see how concerned I am. Maybe my hypnobirthing dvd / book will help me relax when I start practising. Hopefully!

forgetmenots · 28/03/2013 09:20

Oh brilliant - what hypnobirthing book have you got? Want to give it a bash!

MrsBri · 28/03/2013 09:21

Once I've crawled out of bed I'll let you know :-)
