So glad everything was OK Photographer and you had a nice experience at the hospital.

Bigbelly really sorry your mum was being difficult, and don't feel you are being bitchy for having a moan - I think any of us would be the same. Hopefully the next time you speak to her things will be a bit better, but well done for not getting into an argument, as that's probably what I would have done!

Cheek that is exactly why we haven't shared names. Our first choice is a little bit unusual, although it is a traditional name, and when I looked at a MN thread about it it was a 50/50 split as to whether people loved or hated it. (Some people were saying some really horrible things on that thread, glad we are not like that!) I knew then it was time to stop seeking opinions and be confident that it's hopefully going to be the right one for our DD.

Re. stress incontinence, I've had it for a good few weeks now, despite trying my best with the pelvic floor exercises and have had to resort to wearing a Tena panty liner all the time Blush, just as they say on the box for those "oops" moments. To be honest my pelvic floor has never been the best - I had problems in that department when I briefly took up running a few years ago. I dread to think what the situation will be like after I've given birth..

Going out for DH's birthday later so am treating myself to a haircut later. Can't remember who had a pedicure but that's definitely something I plan to treat myself to at the point where I want to start wearing sandals. I'm not usually a pamper-y type person at all and really begrudge spending money on things like that, but needs must!

25+5 (also confused about when 3rd timester starts - according to one book I have it has started already, others say at 26 or 27 Confused)

PhieEl06 · 12/04/2013 08:19

Good morning all! Smile For the first time ever I'm on MN on a computer, I am possibly too attached to my iPad.

Have only skimmed through so sorry for no personals but would love to join the secret FB group orange, who do I need to PM my name too? Hope this one doesn't fizzle out I like coming on here from time to time.

I have ordered my pram YAY! It's being delivered on the 4th July however hoping now Spocketta doesn't make an early appearance.
Hope you all have a nice day whatever your doing! 25+6

BB01 · 12/04/2013 09:00

Bigbelly oh dear, sounds like something my mum would come out with. Not very helpful comments when she should be there to support you. But as others have said hopefully she will get over it and come round to your way of thinking.

We haven't really shared names either and especially not with people who we know would have strong opinions! Would rather just tell them once it's a done deal :-) but it is soooo tempting to share them, especially with family

Photographer, glad all seems to be ok and hope you feel better soon. Flu when pregnant sucks big time.

I'll also be counting down the 6 weeks left at work from Monday :-)

BB01 · 12/04/2013 09:05

In fact I'll share my mum's most ridiculous comment this week (I make her out to be awful when she's not but she does come out with some twaddle):

Mother: 'Oh, I meant to tell you, my friend Jean said she thinks you really should go into hospital for your birth rather than having a homebirth' (Jean is not a midwife, obstetrician or any other sort of health professional and has not given birth for 40 years).

Me: 'Oh dear; thank you for informing me. I am sure she knows better than my midwife and has read all of the up-to-date research on this area so we'd better change our plans'.

Grin
BB01 · 12/04/2013 09:07

Just to add that Jean had no arguments or facts to support this golden nugget of advice!!!!

Cutandstick · 12/04/2013 09:07

What are people's views on having the whooping cough jab? I'm supposed to have mine next Thursday.

GeorgieWilson · 12/04/2013 09:15

Hi Everyone,

I'm useless at posting and realised I've not added anything since the 1st or 2nd thread. I've been keeping up with everyone's news though.
Some brill advice on here and great to know you aren't the only one (especially when it comes to weeing when sneezing)
Very jealous of those finishing soon for maternity, I'm planning to work until 38 weeks - 10 weeks to go. Also need to move house before then!
We are having a boy here - but haven't told anyone that we know, trying very hard not to say 'he'. I second not telling people name choices, it's so hard to choose in the first place so don't need anyone putting doubt in your mind.
I'm up for the Facebook group and will pm my name, hope this thread stays as lively though- its my morning ritual to read through and catch up! (Must also post)

SlouchingPanda · 12/04/2013 10:14

BB01 - how frustrating with your mum, but you response sounds spot on. In fact, why not invite Jean to deliver your baby. She sounds like the ideal candidate for the job.

Hate how everyone and his wife thinks it's ok to comment on your pregnancy and the considered choices you make.

I was reading through the basic birth plan in my antenatal notes yesterday. Think DH and I need to take it a little more seriously as our answers to the questions were very silly:

Who would you like to support you in labour? The Queen. And Nancy Reagan. But if they are not available, DH will suffice.

Delivery of placenta?
First class please

How would you like your baby to receive vitamin K?
On a silver platter, brought by unicorns and elves.

I still can't imagine myself in a 'birth' scenario... I don't feel old enough! At age 35 will I grow up when this baby is born!?

PhieEl06 · 12/04/2013 10:25

BB01 laughing at work at your response. I got told I'm an idiot yesterday for cleaning the kitchen (in rubber gloves), would much rather clean the kitchen than get some hideous disease from the germs on the surfaces. (Disclaimer: this is not my home kitchen, but the one at work & working with 3 men none of them have any standard of food hygiene, & will happily drink from cups that haven't been washed for 4 days.)

Slouching your not alone, at the moment me & OH are considering the birth part as one big joke, well either that or I'm having a mental breakdown on how painful it will be. At 18 I am worried about the growing up part... Hmm

VinegarDrinker · 12/04/2013 10:26

Love your birth plan, Slouching - I never wrote one for DS, shocking behaviour I know.

Cutandstick · 12/04/2013 11:08

So embarrassing question....what is the done thing re lady garden when giving birth? Blush
My Mum said (I didn't ask!) you used to be given a razor and enema when you arrived at hospital! ....so.... Does one wax, trim (how I don't know already!) or just go with it in an unkempt state?
Sorry to ask but I keep wondering now its pretty much out of sight!

shelley72 · 12/04/2013 11:27

morning all just catching up with everyones news. not had a great week, think ive had a bug or something and my back pain is back (along with under bump pain). been trying to take it easy but thats easier said than done. have a few family health worries (DH and DM) so its been a really long week!

all ok on the baby front though, i feel huge though some people still dont realise im pg, bump is measuring 27wks so i cant be that tiny. MW does keep mentioning 'the birth' though. i am firmly in denial and still unsure as what to do for the best. apparently i have to have a think before my next appointment at the end of the month.

cutandstick the whooping cough jab hasnt been mentioned yet, but i guess i will have it - apparently 10 babies died in our area last year from it (so MW told me) - and they give it at 8 wks anyway. my DCs have had all their jabs, i know its not everyones choice but i do my best to keep them safe and well.

and as for the lady garden they dont routinely shave/enema as they used to in my mums day. i am pretty sure that on the day you give birth it will be the last thing on your mind Smile. having said that i did get waxed / pedicure before DS was born and had a pedi before DD (she was CS so i tidied up myself before hand). just dont shave, cant think of anything worse than itchy stubble AND stitches / scar. have already got my pedicure / eyebrows / haircut booked for end of june Grin.

glad you went to DAU photographer and that they looked after you. always better to get checked out. hope youre on the mend now.

hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

SlouchingPanda · 12/04/2013 11:33

There's more...

You may wish to discuss the following with your midwife:
Pain relief
Hopefully she won't need it
Episiotomies and tears
If I have to have one, I probably will cry

Re. lady gardens, anything goes. The days of a shave and an enema are over and the midwives seriously won't give two hoots whether you are bald, trimmed or au naturel. They will have seen it all before. DH and I were discussing a sparkly vajazzle with an arrow and 'exit this way' but I'll probably just neaten up a bit (if I can see down there by then!).Grin

Cutandstick · 12/04/2013 11:34

Thanks shelley Re under bump pain, I had some odd pain on both sides under bump and MW has sent off a specimen re possible UTI, so keep an eye on that. She said it sometimes doesn't show up in dip test.
Also... my MW hasn't mentioned birth AT ALL. 28 +6

shelley72 · 12/04/2013 11:57

i wish my MW wouldnt - i really dont want to think about the choice i have to make Shock.
i had thought about UTI as i had one or two with DD and they were excruciating. will keep an eye on it and phone someone if it gets worse

Cutandstick · 12/04/2013 12:03

I think if you call the doctors you can just drop a sample in to be tested without seeing anyone (it being a Friday and all) - they had me do that one morning before work before I was PG.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 12/04/2013 13:36

Hi everyone.

The thread dropped off my active and I kept forgetting to come back. Blush

I hope everyone is well.

25 weeks.

Quinandthem · 12/04/2013 14:59

Hi girls,

Bigbelly - anyway you can reduce contact with your mum - doesn't seem to bring any good into your life.

Photo ? glad you were reassured at hospital & hope you feel better soon.

My midwife said that people with anterior placentas (like me) usually contacted them for more checks regarding movement as it is so much harder to feel them. So don?t feel worried about asking for them ? they will expect it.

Lady garden - i think i will trim - or get OH to do it (currently use husband's electric beard trimmer - yes he knows!)

My 28wk MW appointment went really well this morning, they already had my GTT & blood results back from Tuesday and I?m all clear ? so won?t feel bad for eating the Wispa bar in my desk draw?

Pelvic floors ? I keep forgetting to do them, and when I do I?m not quite sure I?m clenching the right bits? At my antenatal yoga she was teaching us to do them in 3 sections ? front (like when you try to stop peeing), middle ? vagina, and back passage (she said like you were trying to stop a fart) and to do them quick and slow.

My Sister-in-law is due 1st May, baby is engaged and she could go at any minute - we have been in denial about our imminent arrival until theirs arrives.

Have a good weekend everyone

MightBeMad · 12/04/2013 15:04

Hi all. Having a really hormonal day here Blush not helped by having paid out nearly £600 on boiler and shower and neither are any closer to being in full working order than they were to start with! Angry plus the spd is worse than it has been (in no small measure due to hopeless plumber who stood there like a lemon and made me move the built in tumble dryer out and climb in behind it to turn the water off Angry Hmm

Grumble grumble grumble - that's therapeutic - thank you for listening Grin

On tidying up for delivery - I too cannot think of anything worse than adding stubble into the epi/tear/stitches mix! It could be several days between being at home in any state to tidy and delivery, and then again more people 'check up' on your healing etc in the days/weeks after delivery, so the chances of anyone catching my nether regions looking neat is slim even if I tried. On which basis I'm going au naturel! Hopefully no one will have too much of a heart attack at the sight Blush

Persuasion · 12/04/2013 15:47

slouching I love your birth plan! I haven't written anything yet, but so far my thoughts extend to 'keep me and baby alive, discharge ASAP'

cut I'm not having the whooping cough jab, but it's really a personal decision. For me I don't think the benefits outweigh the risk.

RE lady gardens, I think you can do what you like, frankly I think I shall attempt to keep it short, but no waxing/shaving or anything that may produce soreness, especially as I can't see it anymore!

photographer glad everything is ok despite the worry.

Welcome back to all the lurkers!

I won't be joining the facebook group, I like the anonymity like citizen. I hope you're not all going to bugger off over there now though Grin

I'm just back from my anti D injection, it was fine (for anyone worried about theirs). Also found out my GTT was normal, so that's one less think to worry about. It looks like the mw visits are getting more frequent now, she recommended the next one in 3 weeks, so I've booked that, seems pretty soon though!

IndecisivePramBuyer81 · 12/04/2013 16:49

It's really difficult to keep up with you ladies!

I haven't been told anything about coming up with a birthing plan yet? Should I have?

Re lady garden - I had mine waxed for the first time in several yrs at 24 wks because I couldn't see/maintain it anymore! I can't cope with untidiness in that area whether I can see it or not! It hurt like hell and i resembled a plucked chicken for a couple of days after Blush but have definitely felt better for it!

Sugarkane · 12/04/2013 16:54

Orange have sent you my details for the facebook group, as two people on here can agree I personally have found it a lot better to speak to people on there than here in the feb group, we have formed a great relationship.

cheekbyjowl · 12/04/2013 18:06

slouching your vajazzle idea is inspired! would "break seal before opening" be too obvious or "if broken provide pain relief". What else could you have?

SlouchingPanda · 12/04/2013 19:02

Cheek it would sure give everyone a laugh!

Mama and Papas have a maternity sale on. I got a pair of wide legged jersey trousers (smart enough for work) and a vest and pj bottoms set for a fiver each. Go forth and get bargains!

marmitemad · 12/04/2013 19:36

Evening ladies,

Another one here who can keep up with reading the thread but is useless at posting especially personals as i usually read from my phone, I will find it easier on the FB group but will try harder to keep up on here. Orange, will pm you tonight.

Spent today reacclimatising to english weather after 2 lovely weeks belly gazing and drinking mocktails in Sharm El Sheikh. The belly is huge after pancakes for breakfast every day although did not overindulge on puddings as most were mousse based. Not currently scheduled for a GTT and hoping they don't change their mind.

Re the ladygarden, I will probably be having my first ever waxing session pre d day (if I can pluck up the courage) as there is currently way too much hair down there in places where there shouldn't be hair. I didn't have excessive hair growth with dd so didn't worry but it feels completely different this time which makes me think its a boy.

panda thanks for the mamas & papas sale alert, I shouldn't really buy any more clothes but will pop in tomorrow for a nosey when I'm in reading getting my bday present. Loving your birth plan Smile

10 left until ML starts, guess I need to find the bolts/screws/nuts for the cot and crib.......
