when do you have an HR department? I think if you do then you need to be having a word with them and pointing out that your manager's attitude is causing you undue stress. Highlight your own history. He needs a bloody good talking to!
Don't go into work if you don't feel up to it, especially if you have to drive anywhere. It's not safe for you or those around you either.
Hope that you're feeling better soon.

getoffthecoffeetable · 21/03/2013 11:29

Cross post with Always auntie!

OneLittleToddleTerror · 21/03/2013 11:29

whenshe he sounds like a twat.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 21/03/2013 11:41

Thanks guys. He does have kids. The strange thing is he is actually a decent bloke. He's new to management and I don't think he realises the duty of care he has towards pregnant women.

I think he just had this great day planned for tomorrow and is now worried that it might not happen. He's pretty ambitious and probably just isn't thinking.

Really not sure about contacting hr, the head of hr is a monumental tool.

Urgh starting to feel sick again.

Sorry for the me me me posts, thanks for the replies.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 21/03/2013 11:46

I don't think some fathers understand about pregnancy or childcare sadly. I'm sure we all know of some very hands off dads.

Our HR is useless too. We actually have to raise a ticket through the intranet. And then we get replies like thank you for your concern, we will respond asap. It's like talking to sky or my isp. Most of the time, I get a response saying that sorry we can't help you with this, we will be closing the ticket.

And no we can't talk to a real person. The tickets go to the central system in San Jose.

GinSling82 · 21/03/2013 11:59

Wow onelittle you HR department sounds world class!! I've never heard of anything like that! Sounds like they have a very ...personal touch! Ha ha

williaminajetfighter · 21/03/2013 12:36

gin I'm 7 weeks today too. Hurrah. really can't believe I made it this far!

Whenshewas I feel dreadful as well. Luckily my work is desk-based but I'm having to chair meetings and it's so hard. i could fall asleep at my desk right now. Perhaps catnaps at lunch might help? Or taking some leave - a half day here and there?

Fairydogmother · 21/03/2013 13:19

as much as newly pregnant women dont feel like standing up for themselves - we must do it!

why the hell should we be trampled over and made to feel like this?!

ilovemiltonismybestfriend · 21/03/2013 13:24

JBrd when's your due date again??

Theicingontop · 21/03/2013 13:30

yy fairy. I wish I could go back in time to when I was pregnant with DS and give myself a good talking to. I had no confidence in myself whatsoever and let everyone else make decisions for me, felt bad the entire time I was working for 'letting the team down' by getting pregnant Hmm

Fortunately with experience comes wisdom and that won't happen again. If I had this thread back then I reckon things would have been different though. You lot are so supportive. It's lovely Thanks

getoffthecoffeetable · 21/03/2013 13:30

Anyone else look like they're carrying a cushion under their skirt?
My belly is huge today, no wonder boss asked if I was pregnant!
Yesterday it was fine, today I've ballooned, am 7+5 today

MummaPanda · 21/03/2013 13:41

I feel like iv balloned today too getoff and am feeling really sick today. Kinda wish I'd just throw up and get it over with Sad

mumma it's good to know I'm not alone. Have you tried the travel sickness wristbands? fairy recommended them and they're brilliant. I daren't take them off now!

Fairydogmother · 21/03/2013 14:01

i def feel a bit bloated today - dont like it one bit!

those seabands are very good so i'd def recommend them to all!

self esteem is so key isnt it - something i've had to work very hard on. i've def learned the hard way that most work places (and some colleagues) dont give a flying f*ck about you!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 21/03/2013 14:24

williamina taking odd days here and there isn't really an option, I'd run out of annual leave really quickly.
I need to save my time off for the end of pregnancy, based on last time I full expect to turn into a useless lump around 32 weeks.

It really annoys me that illness in pregnancy is treated as "fake" illness. You wouldn't suggest someone with a bad cold takes a few afternoons off if they are too ill to work.

MummaPanda · 21/03/2013 15:14

No I haven't tried them, haven't had a chance to go anywhere that would have them, would they sell them in a normal chemist? Cos I'll be taking dd to get her jabs (yay) on mon n could get some then

BangOn · 21/03/2013 15:23

whenshe perhapd you boss's partner just happens to be one of those women who seems to sail through pregnancy without so much as a hiccup? in which case he probably expects all women to do likewise...

getoff yes, i look as though i've got a very squashed pillow attached to my belly. noticed it today when i went for a bra fitting & there was a scary full length mirror. ended up blurting out to the lady who was doing my fitting that my boobs were 'only going to get bigger...'. She clocked what i meant straight away & i ended up with lots of advice & leaflets on care of the breasts during pregnancy! i haven't even told friends & family & yet i'm just blurting it out to shop assistants! wtaf? Blush

JBrd · 21/03/2013 15:39

ilovemiltonismybestfriend My EDD is currently Nov 24

Minesahotchocolate · 21/03/2013 15:54

Hello to all the new folk! :)

Haverina - (if you spot this message in amongst all the zillions of posts!) - good to know that it's not just me feeling cold. I remember feeling super toasty with my 1st preg so wasn't expecting the opposite. Thankfully I sleep better when DH is away, and just grab a hottie to compensate! He always wants to cosy, and when preg/feeling queasy I just want my space. Can't remember if I said this already, but my DD is almost 2. Am a bit nervous of how to cope with two children. She'll be 2ys 5months by my due date... so I'm guessing she might still need an afternoon nap/the buggy (so don't want a double buggy, eugh!). Ideally would have had a larger gap but I REALLY didn't expect to fall preg so much more quickly 2nd time around. Am only just starting to get my head around it (been a bit in denial!).

Oh - and am also already feeling bloated/my jeans are too tight. Not good. Will have to find the larger jeans I wore post preg soon... but don't want to give the game away yet either. If only it were warmer out and I could wear skirts - would be so much more comfortable!

Is anyone else having slight nose bleeds? Not so much as actively bleeding, just always slight bit of blood when blowing nose? Been like this almost since finding out was preg.

7+2 today

SterlingS · 21/03/2013 15:57

I'm debating telling work tomorrow, just my boss tho - I had to go home today cos I was sick on the way in and felt dizzy (right faff to get home too as it is an hour each way) but they all think its a stomach bug. Just think it will be easier to tell them - then I have a bit of protection if questions are asked about sick days etc.

Am 8+2 and sickness has got worse in the past few days, feel like I'm having an out of body experience - I can highly recommend flat Fanta for the nausea though.

TwoTearsInABucket · 21/03/2013 16:04

I don't envy you guys who go to work, it is no fun, especially with such quality HR systems and line managers!!.

I work from home and look after my other two. DH is at home as well and he said, "so you're going to sit in front of the telly again this afternoon then?" Er, yes, coz I feel gross, the sickness is kicking in. Just constant nausea but no actual throwing up. Its all happening at 4 weeks. So that's an extra three weeks of grossness.

vix206 · 21/03/2013 16:13

I got my seabands at my local chemists.

MoodyDidIt · 21/03/2013 16:26
