vix I don't think so. I got an appointment schedule at the booking in yesterday. I will be only given a 12 and 20 week scan. But I'll have more home visits after 36 weeks because of my previous birth. I felt slightly reassured they are taking into account my problem last time. But slight Hmm when the midwife insisted I need a home birth box. I really really don't want a home birth. (I needed ventouse last time so I'm scared the baby would be stuck).

vix206 · 21/03/2013 09:07

Yes sadly they're not standard practice. They should be I think.

SterlingS · 21/03/2013 09:12

Eurgh full on sickness this morning - now on way home from work (where they think I've got a stomach bug) - can't keeps anything down, not even fizzy water (normally my saviour)...feel v weak and tired, hopefully a nap and some crisps will help

OneLittleToddleTerror · 21/03/2013 09:16

Alexandra6 the nauseousness and tiredness you feel is morning sickness. It's usually worse on an empty stomach. That's what it could be worse in the mornings. But some of us feel worse in the evenings. I just feel so rubbish after work atm.

getoffthecoffeetable · 21/03/2013 09:20

Ah, my boss has just asked me if I'm pregnant. Apparently the way I was standing and the skirt I've got on give it away!
Had to say that I am. Can't believe my boss knows before my mum!!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 21/03/2013 09:24

Hi everyone, yet more newbies Smile and the dates are getting close to the end of Nov.

I'm really worried about work. I'm not feeling too good, 8 weeks pregnant been getting severe headaches, nausea, vomiting and bone crunching exhausting.

Was off sick on Monday, struggled back into work on Tues & Wed. Dd has come down with a stinking cold and I was up with her all night. I am completely on my arse today, can't move without dry wretching.

Phoned the boss, his reaction was oh well give me a ring later about tomorrow because we have that day out together and a meeting with Jane (new person) and you need to show her the ropes all afternoon. I'm dreading it, if I feel the same tomorrow as I do today there is simply no way I am up to it. Sad what the hell am I going to do?

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 21/03/2013 09:24

Wow getoff can't believe your boss guessed already.

MummaPanda · 21/03/2013 09:26

Friend of mine recently gave birth to a 10lb 3ounce baby, was her first. And she was soo thin before you wouldn't believe a baby that size came out of her! They had to have an emergency scan but she was full term by that point. They should do one to check the growth because the fundal measurement isn't very reliable

Boss is only just back from maternity leave herself so I suppose she's got babies on the brain still.

I wish my boss had recently been pregnant (not likely he's a bloke). He might be a bit more understanding.

I'm still mad and worried. He basically told me I need to be at work tomorrow and able to train someone. The dry heaving has stopped now because I'm lying down but as soon as I move it starts again.

harverina · 21/03/2013 10:10

I failed miserably and had crisps and a McDonald's breakfast on way to work then spend 20 minutes sitting in the toilet being sick Shock I'm at my desk sipping on diet coke but my tummy is dodgy Confused not sure how I will manage today. Hoping if I sit quietly it will pass.

I had two planned scans last time at 12 and 20 weeks. Some people on get 1 scan! So annoying the differences across areas. Think it's still just 2 scans in my area. I had the luxury of an extra 2 scans last time - once because the baby was lying awkwardly and the sonography e couldn't get proper measurements and another time to check growth as I was measuring small. I love scans!!

Fairydogmother · 21/03/2013 10:13

i think people seem to think that as soon as someones pregnant they use that as an excuse to take time off. in reality some people get really ill or struggle to function and bosses need to appreciate that.

i'm struggling big style in work but thats due to a crap boss who seems to deliberately set me up to fail. i cant concentrate so that doesnt help!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 21/03/2013 10:19

Sorry work is crap fairy

I am really worried that my boss just thinks I'm taking the piss. I was off sick on Monday as well argh.

Do you think I should go to my GP for a sick note?

Fairydogmother · 21/03/2013 10:25

whenshe i wonder if you spoke to your boss and told him how hard things were for you at the minute might that help? if he understood that you are doing your best without going off sick then he might more more accomodating to your needs. he cant discriminate against you but i understand that theres still a business to run. could you work from home even?

i have so many hosp and gp appts that it feels as though my boss thinks i'm taking the p*ss. but i cant change the time of hosp appts - you have to take what you get. i even took a whole day off for my booking appt as i didnt feel able to be away for several hours when i'm perfectly entitled to be...

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 21/03/2013 10:34

fairy thanks for the reply.

Just thrown up so will probably feel ok for another 30 mins.

I just don't know if speaking would help. The trouble is I really don't feel up to my job at the moment. I had to run out of meetings with clients 3 times on Tues to be sick. I nearly fainted on Wed. Cried on my way home as it was a long way back from my customers and I had to pull over as I was so tired I was a danger on the road.

I've done a what I could this week but it really isn't anything like good enough. Just feel that if I go to work I'll do a crap appalling job and get into trouble for that and if I'm off sick they will think I'm taking the piss.

Fairydogmother · 21/03/2013 10:39

Doesnt sound to me like you are fit for work. Dont let this keep grinding you down until it makes you much worse than you already are. Your mental well being is just as important as your physical so dont underestimate that.

I'd go and see your GP and talk it over. Keep talking about things on here tho as it can only help x

OneLittleToddleTerror · 21/03/2013 10:46

Whenshe I think you'll need to come clean with your boss. He probably thinks you are taking the piss if you take another day off. If you tell him, he might actually surprise you and be very supportive. I'm sure you can understand he needs to plan and it might be good if he can take your problems into account with his planning. A lot of people have to tell their boss early because of their jobs, so it's not an entirely not-done thing.

Hope he's not as bad as you think!

GinSling82 · 21/03/2013 10:47

mmmm I'm just tucking into bacon and egg sandwich as I get up to date on this thread Smile. I wake up feeling full on nausea and although its a struggle to actually cook it I know that the bacon will sort me out!! I haven't eaten it for months, its not something I usually buy/have in the house but I think its going to become a staple until this sickness passes. The only weird thing is I've taken to separating the yolks from the whites and just eat the white - just can't face a hard yolk Confused

I'm 7 weeks today - hurrah! Grin feels like a small victory and getting somewhere. But like you mother I have 10 weeks as a bit of a magical number in my head when I'll breath a little sigh of relief. It also my birthday then so going to tell a few close friends.

1 week until my early scan...and counting...literally the seconds! Feel so impatient!

Welcome and congrats to all the newbies Flowers

GinSling82 · 21/03/2013 11:00

Sorry whenshe my page hadn't fully updated when i made my post - sorry your having such an awful time. Pregnancy symptoms suck, and being as sick and as tired as you've been no wonder you're finding work a struggle.

How has your boss responded to others that have been pregnant in your office?

I'm with what others have said, I think you need to explain that your pregnant and your symptoms - at least he/she will know whats going on and they should have to be fair. My friend was in a similar situation and got called to a meeting with her boss to discuss poor performance and days off and she just instantly told them in the meeting she was pregnant. They were relieved there was a reason and were more understanding - the same could work for you?

Alternatively, if you have a nice GP, go to them, explain how much you are struggling and see if you can get a sick cert. The only thing is you can self cert for 7 days, so some GPs won't give you one unless you have been off for more than this - although it depends on the GP

Alwaystheauntie · 21/03/2013 11:02

I have discovered sparkling water with fresh mint in it and a bit of ice is working wonders for the sickness. Only problem is that its all I want to drink at the moment and am out for lunch (work thing) today, so I think the fact that (a) I am normally the biggest booze hound out there but won't be drinking and (b) i will be requesting sparkling water with mint in it, might give away the fact that I am up le duff! Fortunately I am out with some god friends of mine (I use the term work lunch very loosely in this case!) so if they realise its not the end of the world.

PS is it wrong that I have fresh mint with me in case the restaurant doesn't have any?? What with the mint, sick bags, wet wipe s and mints I feel a bit like a girl guide!!

JBrd · 21/03/2013 11:06

Good luck to all of you struggling with work! It must be so awful... not sure what I will do, but then again, they are very laid back at my workplace, that no one will take great notice...

I will, however, have to talk to our Health & Safety person soon... I work in a laboratory, and there are some things that I need to be careful with, and I will have to complete a risk assessment. Fortunately, I have a lovely colleague who I am planning to tell, so that I will be able to offload some of the tasks that I am not comfortable doing. I did that last time, she is so nice and understanding (so much that I have to be careful not to take too much advantage of her).
But all that can wait until after Easter.

Can we update the stats list, please? Someone said that you have one on this thread. Lots of new people seem to have joined when I did, and it would be lovely to see if I have a due date buddy Smile

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 21/03/2013 11:16

Thanks fairy onelittle and gin the thing is he already knows. I had to tell him at only 4 weeks. He was out with me for the day, he knew about my 3 mc's last year so I knew he would assume I was pregnant when I nearly threw up on him.

It feels like he thinks "it's just pregnancy, you should get on with it".

Actually I'm really pissec off now, he knows I'm at increased risk of mc, what the fuck is he doing treating me like this.

oops pregnant woman hissy fit

GinSling82 · 21/03/2013 11:24

whenshe I think if you had 3 mc's last year you have to think only of yourself and not your stupid boss! I'm surprised he's not more understanding knowing that. You and the baby are more important than him/the job. It sounds like you are really suffering and therefore you have a legitimate reason to be off work. I still think you need to sit down and explain things too him and agree a way to make life better for both of you. Do you have an HR department that you can consult? They should support you and advise on things like this. They also have to remain confidential if you tell them stuff - but depends how much you trust them I suppose.

Really hope you start to feel better/ your boss becomes a human soon!

Alwaystheauntie · 21/03/2013 11:28

Whenshewas that is outrageous! Has he got kids? If so, you would think he would know better. If not, it explains why! Have you got an HR department? If so, it might make sense to let them know too.
