oh for crying out loud!! You need to get on the phone to them first thing in the morning and find out the whole story. This is really not the kind of confusion that anybody needs at a time like this!

Creamtea1 · 25/03/2013 19:07

Oh frog how bloody frustrating! So you could have been worrying all this time because of the hosp cocking up the bloods? And I guess now you are too far on to repeat the bloods...if it turns up the hosp have messed up I would be inclined to tell them you want them to do the (free) detailed market scan..

Creamtea1 · 25/03/2013 19:07

*marker scan not market!

riskit4abiskit · 25/03/2013 19:21

sorry to hear about your dilemma Frogchops, hope you're doing as well as can be expected in the limbo of waiting.

does anyone know if urine samples have to be taken to ALL midwife appointments? - I had to go to surgery to get a bottle / flask / whatever because my 16 week appointment is in just over a week. I can't aim for toffee - sorry if this is tmi.

hope everyone is well.

Dorita75 · 25/03/2013 19:30

Ha kitten I've had those too! Like you Jo someone said they'd guessed I was pregnant because of my face, while gesturing around her chin, lovely.

Blimey frogchops what a frustrating situation, so it could be they've messed the bloods up and the results may have been wrong all along? Hope you get some proper answers when you speak to them.

ION I bought some maternity jeans from New Look today, looks like style goes out the window for the next 6 months then?!!

Keepsmilingsunshine · 25/03/2013 19:30

Oh Frog, what a joke! Ring them first thing tomorrow, tell them how this is making you feel and push for a free detailed scan as soon as possible to reassure you. If you are really unhappy speak to PALS. What a horrible, horrible situation to have been put in. Hope all is ok.

riskit I was given a pot a the booking in apt ready for the 16 week one. If I remember rightly from DC1, they do a dipstick test at every apt. Hope all goes well tomorrow.

frogchops · 25/03/2013 19:34

I'm guessing its not downs bloods though as they wouldn't have been able to give me a score without :-( there was 6 bottles taken so it could be one of the others :-/

JoCheshire10 · 25/03/2013 19:48

Risk-yep I was told to bring a sample to every apt except the scans.

Frog-sounds like you're having a bit of a nightmare, doesn't help when the hospital does st daft! Best of luck and hope you get an explanation and way forward in the morning

Eeeknumber3 · 25/03/2013 20:13

Oh frog what a mare...and like everyone has said confusion that is not needed now. Ring them in the morning and ask to speak to the midwife that deals with screening. I spoke to the one at our hospital, they have to have a nominated 'screening midwife/nurse', who will be able to investigate it for you. I was baffled as to why I'd had the private nuchal done on the Monday and was given 1:5000 and had the NHS nuchal screening done the next day, Tuesday, and was given a risk of 1:15,000. The nuchal measurement was 1.2 for both tests and I couldn't work out how the bloods could be so different within 24 hours?! She couldn't tell me. I know the risk was fine for both, so I didn't investigate further, I'm just a person who likes to understand and still don't. I guess what I'm saying is that the bloods can maybe skew things one way or another. I don't really know what I'm saying or if it helps, but it all seems a bit of a black art!?!

Eeeknumber3 · 25/03/2013 20:24

Only me again! frog with regards to your MS, talked to my best mate today, who also has MS. She has 3 DC's, youngest one is 6. She, like you, doesn't take any medication for her MS and hasn't had a bad episode for some time now, she says when she was pregnant with most recent baby, she was offered appointment with specialist MS midwife. I don't know if you have, or even if you want to, but she got lots of extra advice about pregnancy etc, they might be able to tell you about tests being effected etc? She actually said sheis most symptom free when pregnant, which is common with MS...Smile

frogchops · 25/03/2013 20:31

Ahh thanks for thinking of me eek, I've also heard that pregnancy is the best time symptom wise.... Altho this is why I'm used to the complete tiredness!! All I know is that my preg is meant to be consultant led. Haven't had any appt with a consultant come through yet tho. My mw and dr have said it makes no difference, so I'm guessing I don't have access to a specialist one. I'll ask tho, I'll say you said, lol. makes mental note to write this growing list of q's down!!

riskit4abiskit · 25/03/2013 20:40

thanks for the replies

CharlW1 · 25/03/2013 21:34

Thanks jammy definitely going to investing some Elle McPh bras - they look so much better than a lot of the maternity bras I have seen!
badguider that jacket is such a good buy!

I know itchiness was discussed towards the beginning of this thread and I remember saying that I was not suffering but both my sisters said they did and it was the skin stretching - well I am very much suffering now - particularly legs and boobs - specifically right nipple! it's driving me ruddy crazy. I am putting lashings of body butter on legs and tum but is anyone using anything specifically for itchy nipples?

HettySunshine · 26/03/2013 07:20

Morning lovelies. Grin

Riskit, if you have trouble aiming into the little pot you could buy a cheap plastic jug and keep it in the bathroom. Or is that gross?! Wink

It's snowing here again. I don't fancy the walk to work much. Especially as I have a cat asleep on my feet. Sigh!

Kittenkatzen · 26/03/2013 07:52

Oh frog what a bloody shit storm for you Sad hope you can get hold of someone for clarification today. (As a side note - they took SIX vials of blood from you?? Shock )

charl sorry no specific advice re the itchy nips, just copious amounts of body butter, but if it makes you feel better it has significantly eased off now for me...

risk I've not been given a pot for my 16wk appt - assume I'll be asked to pee in a cup while I'm there....

dorita style doesn't have to go out the window completely - get thee to H&M, I got some lovely over bump skinny jeans in there, really comfy and they had loads of nice colours Smile

JoCheshire10 · 26/03/2013 08:53

Annoyingly nausea has returned.. It's been away for about a week and was happily getting used to it. Just hit 14 wk point and woken up feeling rubbish-hoping its just the one day...

flipflump · 26/03/2013 09:38

Charl, I really suffered with the itchy nips too. TMI but I also had what can only be described as nip dandruff - oh the glamour! I've been using the boots expert nipple cream and it has made a huge difference.

Eeeknumber3 · 26/03/2013 09:52

Ahhhhh, FFS, woken up with cracking headache again...bloody hormones! This pregnancy is very up and down and the feeling well/unwell stakes. Neither of my other two were like this...or perhaps I have false memory?!

frogchops · 26/03/2013 10:00

Cutting a long story short....it's not downs bloods, its the other 4 bottles that need redoing. The form wasn't filled in right. I have found out that my hcg level was 1.5 and Papp-a was 0.3. It's the Papp-a that's elevated the risk. :-(

Eeeknumber3 · 26/03/2013 10:37

Interesting website frog these are the people our hospital send out bloods to...thinking about you www.wolfson.qmul.ac.uk/epm/screening/calcrisk.html

Eeeknumber3 · 26/03/2013 10:46

Looked back on my results from nuchal with DD and DS. Had them privately, as unavailable on NHS for me 5 years ago. Just out of interest, DD's results were skewed massively, by the HCG serum marker, which was massively high...2.4 mOm. All other markers and nuchal were within normal range, interesting that one marker can be so out of normal range...

frogchops · 26/03/2013 11:23

But with mine being 2.sometjing and the Papp/a being 0.3.... It's both which are a dodgy. She even said, from talking to me that she thinks ill go for amnio regardless of marker scan. FWIW tho she did say that the clinic I'm looking at (MUMS) was very good and along with harmonyhealth I think. She said not to go anywhere else in the midlands.

astroming · 26/03/2013 11:25

Oh frogs thats so frustrating about the bloods. Do you know what the other vials were for, they only took one lot from me at my screening. Now you know your figures at least you can do more researchand perhaps go back to Arc and see what advice they can offer on the Papp A?

On another note...isnt it funny how people just think they know first when it comes to pregnancy. I saw my aunt for the first time in ages yesterday and told her about my being due. She said "i knew you were pregnant when i saw you at New Year...i just knew it.." ermmm nope....she wasnt conceived til 5 days later. I didnt say anything just quietly laughed to myself ha.....

Creamtea1 · 26/03/2013 11:28

frog I'm in the midlands and second the recommendation for MUMS for your private tests. Used them for private nuchal for both ds and they were excellent.

JammyTummy · 26/03/2013 11:38

Frogs, it's at least some consolation that you are able to go to a good clinic with such a good reputation. If you're set on going this is the top of your priority list!

astro yes to that! I've heard things along the following lines from several people: 'I've been suspecting you're pregnant for a good few months now! We just knew'!
Ehhh... Constantly suspecting someone of being pregnant since the day they were married does'nt mean jack!

In other rant about people, if I hear the following (from people who've already had all their babies) one more time ill blow a fuse: 'well in that baby isn't due for another five months why do you need to go to mothercare/ build your furniture/ buy anything baby related?!?
I'm sorry for being excited about having my first child!!
