Shagged Out Viroids 7th Thread! From conception to birth...living proof that JSing really does work!

MrsBri · 04/03/2013 21:03

Hello and welcome to another shiny fred for Just Shagging graduates!

The last fred was nice and busy so fingers crossed we get lots more members

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The last thread saw a few births, including one set of twins, and this one promises to be fruitful also with a number of us nearing the end of the 9 month wait!

Our stats thread is here, so if you find us, please add your stats too.

There is also a Just Mumming thread for grads of the grads thread

And if you want to find out what Just Shagging is about or catch up with the undergrads go say hello to the Just Shaggers here, now on the 14th thread.

Tired sorry to hear about your mum and how worrying although hopefully the infection has been caught early and can all be sorted. I guess the 3 months will feel very long for her; are there special bras she can buy to feel better about the way she looks to others although I imagine she just wants the next few months over. Sending best wishes.

Something congratulations on registering Henry. You have just prompted me to look up how we go about registering Evan - will have to find a time when DP is home so he can be on the certificate too! And your story will be interesting to read. Did you do a story after DS1? Sorry, I am not sure what sepsis is, is it something that could affect anyone?

Wing that bear is lovely.

My news is that today, at the age of just one week, Evan came out of his incubator and was dressed Grin which feels like such a huge step forwards. I have not managed a single day without tears yet but there are a lot more good times than bad now. I was with him for the morning and he was still under his lights and in his incubator. DP went up for the afternoon and got to dress Evan.

We took the DDs up this evening but hadn't told them that Evan was in a cot and dressed so they were both really happy to see him. DD1 especially felt he looked more like a baby and now wants to visit him every day - she didn't really like seeing him in his incubator as he was so tiny and bony. She was afraid to touch him but loved holding his hand today.

And DD2 found it absolutley hilarious when I was changing Evan's nappy - had got everything done, was about to swap the nappies and he did a HUGE fountain of pooh which went everywhere! I had to pull the emergency cord to get a nurse to come and help - we had to wipe it off the side of his cot, down the side of his mattress and he had even got it OUTSIDE his cot to the monitor which was on the shelf at the bottom of his cot Grin Hmm

That boy has got talent! He tried to escape from his incubator two nights ago - they gave me the photograph of him turned sideways with his head pressed up against one of the access windows!

ChildOfThe1980s · 22/03/2013 09:10

Great news about Evan Dysgu :) And congrats to him on the massive poo.

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs · 22/03/2013 09:44

Glad Evan is going well Dysgu.

Sorry to hear about your mum Tired. This happened to a friend of mine. In the end she had an operation to reconstruct her breasts using muscles in her back and fat/tissue from elsewhere - is there an.option for your mum to have a reconstructive surgery without implants? It is awful having to wait but fingers crossed it will be sorted once and for all.

It is heavy snow here so had to walk the DCs to school - they loved it but I could definitely have done without it. Got a pregnancy massage booked this morning and thought she might cancel (she comes here) but she's just texted to ask if my road is clear so fingers crossed she comes.

Who.watched Home Delivery last night?

Wing I ended up skipping to part 2 of the Ina May book as I think it has the most practical advice. Though I challenge anyone to doubt their body's ability to birth after finishing that book! I'm also reading Birth Skills by Juju Sundin. she's a physio that does more physical methods of pain management. I figured it wouldnt hurt to have the natal hypnotherapy CDs and something a bit more active should I need it.

WingDefence · 22/03/2013 10:20

I watched Home Delivery (as you will know from FB)! I thought all the couples were lovely and normal which was such a positive thing :)

Dysgu, well done to Evan for the poo of the year! I'm only just remembering how obsessive we get as new mums with poo - regularity, quantity, consistency etc etc. Bless their little bums Grin

I'm actually sitting at my work desk as I've just spent half hour ripping out staples and getting all my old papers (some a year back) into the recycling bag. I can see the wood on my desktop now Blush Will log of here though and drag myself back out of here.

I feel so much more organised now - clothes sorted; changing mat etc sorted; carry cot and car seat adapters on the buggy chassis and working; bits for home birth sorted; Snuggle Bear snuggled!

I think the only things I feel like I do need to do is to pack my hospital bag(!) and also get the home birth stuff all together in one area, including MiniWing's first clothes etc. Then whenever contractions start, I know DH can find the dust sheets, towels etc and the bits for the baby are ready to be picked up so all I'll have to worry about is the birth...

Right. I'm going to log off my work PC and head downstairs to watch the snow! Brew Biscuit

Pineapple80 · 22/03/2013 10:32

Guinea - I am also reading Birth Skills by Juju Sundin. Literally just started but finding it very interesting.

Glad to hear you are feeling organised Wing! Am feeling very excited for you Smile.

Friday night over here and just relaxing after tiring day at work!

tiredteddy · 22/03/2013 11:04

Thanks for everyone's support. I'm waiting to hear that mum is out of theatre and what the outcome is?

Dysgu, yes there are special bras and things she can wear. I think the hospital will provide a prosthesis too. I'm glad that Evan is doing well. fern also did an enormous poo, all over my bed, really serves me right for not using the changing mat!

Guinea, mum was offered that method of reconstruction as a better one for older ladies at the time of planning this op. however she wanted a quick recovery more than a natural look. She hasn't ended up with a quick recovery anyway but you can't make people's choices for them. I think she was led a bit by my op. as I'd had my mastectomy and recon done before her. Luckily for me it was very straight forward and I was healed and back to normal within 10 weeks. They will try another implant I think and if that doesn't work she will have to consider using her own body tissue. It's all so grim to think about really. I'm sleeping very badly.

frogchops · 22/03/2013 11:43

Hi everyone, just delurking for some advice please.....

Have had combined scan and blood results back at 1:140 for downs....mw offered me amino tests which obv come with their own risks of 1:100 of mc. (Although I've read in most places this could be more like 1:200. )
What would you do? Am struggling with getting my head around what I'm going to do here :-/

MrsBri · 22/03/2013 12:08

Oh no frog...but sometimes these results are nowhere near accurate.

All I can say is how we decided to not have the tests was ask ourselves if we would act on the results or not. We wouldn't, so didn't get tested at all.

Ultimately it is a judgment call for you and your DH / DP. Sorry if that hasn't helped. xx

OP posts:
Rockchick1984 · 22/03/2013 12:40

Oh, Frog I hope you're ok. Turning the figure on its head sounds better though - you've got a 139:140 chance of everything being ok! If you have the additional testing done would you have a termination? I think you need to know the answer to that before you can decide about invasive testing, it's something only you and DH can figure out the answer to. Also which would be worse, not testing and having a baby with Down's, or testing and miscarrying due to the amnio? You don't have to answer, there's no right or wrong as again it depends on your own views and your family. Thanks

tiredteddy · 22/03/2013 13:14

Frog chops, do a search on hear about something called the Harmony test. It's no invasive some how, I read about it a while ago. I think the test just from a normal blood sample? I really don't think my info is very accurate but it is definately new and much safer than amino. Take care x

WingDefence · 22/03/2013 15:35

tired - you're right that you can't make people's choices for them but I do find myself worrying about my parents (and they aren't both that old really, late 60s) just as much as I worry about DS to be honest. I think it's a combination of being a parent myself and wanting them to make the right decisions as they get older, as well as recognising that they themselves don't have all the answers with complete certainty as we thought they did when we were children (infallibility). All you can do is support her in her choices and try to help her not look back and regret any choices she made beforehand I think.

frog - I agree with the others. I can't tell you what I'd do in your circumstances because it's is up to you and your thoughts and situation (and your DH/DP too of course). I know I wouldn't terminate if I knew my child had Downs but I am the sort of person who would really want to know in advance so I could prepare myself, get in touch with different support groups etc. But the amnio test risk is relatively high as well.

Holding your hand though x

frogchops · 22/03/2013 15:58

Thanks everyone... I know it sounds like I'm asking you to tell me what the right thing to do is! I think I'm more frustrated that DP was 100% on wanting the nt scan as he thought we wouldn't cope with a downs baby. Now he's almost ignoring the high risk and saying 'oh 0.7% is very low' lets just carry on regardless. I'm also confused that my nt measurement was 1.5 at 13 wks, I don't have any other indicators and am 29 which to me means something was really wrong with bloods ?!

notsoold · 22/03/2013 16:56

De lurking

Frog....there is a thread for the harmony test. It is not cheap at all, but not invasive. Would that help??? The test is very thorough from what I read.

Tired...poor Mum. I hope she recovers soon!

Wing you are organized!!! Well done!!

Dysgu..so glad reading your news about Evan and laughing at the poo bit :)

Had a private scan today and now the dates seems to be inline (9 weeks)therefore I will try to relax a bit and to stop thinking how things could go wrong! Good hearbeat and now DH is reading more and more about harmony test.uch more expensive here in Manchester...

Kitten and hooya....hello!!!!

MrsBri · 22/03/2013 16:59

That's excellent news on the scan, notso :-)

Oh, and yes, congratulations to Evan on his awesome pooing ability!!

OP posts:
frogchops · 22/03/2013 17:53

Good news on your scan notso, and thanks for the harmony advice....but even if we could afford it, I'm just past the timescale for having it :-/

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs · 22/03/2013 18:48

I can imagine that this is a worry Frog. We didn't get any testing done so haven't been in your position and not sure what I'd do. My best friend has a little boy with Down's syndrome and a few of her friends (from her support group) have had the amnio with their subsequent pregnancies and have said it wasn't that bad. Are there any other soft markers? Nasal bone, femur length etc?

You sound very organised Wing - we've been on a major DIY mission...got new wardrobes for the kids, bought some cupboards for the small bedroom and a big storage unit for downstairs. Just have to sort them all out now Confused .

Got an active birth class on Sunday and my parents are coming to put the kids to bed so DH can come. Then going to start collecting cheap sheets and towels from local charity shops.

frogchops · 22/03/2013 18:52

Haven't asked about other soft markers yet, I'm currently thinking/wondering wether its worth asking for a second test?

thethreeblondies · 22/03/2013 18:56

Definatly frog I'd say demand some info b4 thinking about anything more risky, got my scan and test in a couple of weeks, will see what initial results we get but it's so hard knowing what to do! xx

WingDefence · 22/03/2013 20:09

Isn't there another invasive test you can have (CVS or something?!) but that may have better odds? Sorry, I should have googled it before posting Blush

Towels - yes I need to get more out! Haven't done the hospital bag yet as we've had a nice relaxing afternoon round at friends eating amazing rocky road with crunchies and salted peanuts in but we don't have much planned this weekend so I shall do it tomorrow probably.

Can I please just finish by sharing with you two words that have been stuck ING mind a lot these past few days? PANT SNOT! Ahem.

WingDefence · 22/03/2013 20:10

ING = in my

notsoold · 22/03/2013 21:53

Wing....lol:)

Pineapple80 · 23/03/2013 04:39

Hi Frog. I had CVS done after a very high risk NT result in December 1:21 chance of Down Syndrome & another trisomy was on the higher end but I can't recall exactly the details. It turns out my NT measurement was fine but part of my bloods (PAPP-A) was very very low which can indicate chromosomal abnormalities. My DH and I needed to know for sure, and went ahead with the CVS. It was a very distressing week of waiting but the results came back normal and baby is fine. I have since been monitored more closely for my low PAPP-A levels which can also indicate growth and placental issues. So far all has been reported as normal and well.

There are lots of options, CVS is not a must but will give you a definite diagnosis. This was personally important to us. I have heard of the Harmony test and would look into that if you're near London.

Let me know if you need to know more, I understand it can be really difficult.

Hooya · 23/03/2013 07:58

Hello all!

frog I agree with all that's been said - get all the info you can on the nature of the risk, and then decide whether you would take any action on the basis of the results before you decide what to do. For us, we know that we are likely to take action so would go for the test; if our CF results come back both carriers then we will do. Scary times but you'll get through them and you know you'll make the right decision for you Flowers

tired sorry about your mum, it is so sad worrying about parents isn't it! Really hope she gets the best care and treatment and is less worried soon Flowers

notso brilliant reassuring news, congrats! Grin how did it feel seeing the heartbeat? That was the moment my DP had a proper cry, the first time we saw it!

wing I am with you on the pant snot! Ok that sounded a bit strange, but you know what I mean...

Guinea how exciting getting the place ready for the birth! I am very jealous of the homebirthers, seems such a lovely way to bring a baby into the world Smile

More maternity stuff arrived today from Seraphine - it's ok but I can't believe I'm going to wear so much stretch jersey for the next 5 months! I'm used to fitted stuff giving my bum a decent shape, now it's going to roam free in all these stretchy fabrics it's looking a bit rubbish! Sad

And I miss lie-ins! Been waking at 4am to eat Blush

WingDefence · 23/03/2013 08:22

Err, pant snot now = bloody show...! Confused

And we have no water in the house due to a leak so I I do go into labour today (still think that's a long shot), it'll have to be a hospital birth...

Will keep you all posted. We're actually going to pop to town in a bit as there is no point staying at home while there's no water but perhaps I should tell DH about the pant situation first... Hmm

GaryBuseysTeeth · 23/03/2013 08:29

OOoh exciting Wing! Good luck for pant watch.

Frog, good luck with what you decide to do. As mentioned here the antnatal tests/choices pages are good for advice on harmony etc.

Tired, hope your mum is as well as can be & you all have a peaceful weekend.

20wks today!
