Sorry Janey. If it helps, I'm a total shortarse (5ft 4) and my heaviest pre-pg was 9st - once due to immense muscle tone through martial arts training and later due to um chocolate? BMI was 21 at 10 weeks.

My work colleague, who is teeny tiny, is shorter than me and tipped 11st when pg. She is now skinnier than she was pre-pg due to bf.

Hazle just reread the bit about Barca - that's a blow. Is that cos of LLP? Still, I'm loving the very realistic approach you've taken - hope you're not down about it.

In other news (lol), my parents have offered to work together to pay for a pram/pushchair which everyone seems happy with. And OH thinks he might just go for 3 days of the holiday-wedding-that-i-can't-go-to. Which would prob work fine (if he can find the right flights)...

Alexandra6 · 02/04/2013 13:03

Hi zombies I'm a newbie, only 5+5 now. Sorry you've been ill and glad you're feeling better Smile

Snap with the non-offensive strikers brave! Don't say you hate them janey - yours are what I'm aiming for (have a looong way to go!)

Had my first morning sickness earlier, felt nauseous and struggled to eat breakfast. Appetite is back with a vengeance now - I nearly rugby tackled someone who just bought fish and chips back to the office for his lunch so I could steal his food! Better take my lunch break before I cause a scene Grin

HazleNutt · 02/04/2013 13:38

Brave no problem re: Barca, nothing to do with the placenta, it would just be 34 weeks and doc thinks it's better not to risk it. DHs niece was born at 33 weeks and i would not want to give birth in Spain. I could still go if I wanted to, but as said, I don't think I'd enjoy it that much anyway.

(My best friend was kind enough to move to Alicante, so whenever I want to spend a weekend in Spain, I can just hop on an Easyjet flight, so not like the work trip was anything special.)

I am dreading the summer. It's not that warm here, but I'm sweating like a pig! And I'm one of those people who is normally cold all the time.

BraveLilBear · 02/04/2013 13:57

That's very sensible, and very nice of your best friend to oblige you like that Wink

Had a weird moment yesterday, was in a freezing cold church for a service and sensibly took my coat with me. Except I then had to take it off after 30 mins as I was roasting - definitely not just me, everyone else had freezing hands!

Had a nice walk in 8 deg sunshine this morning and, didn't need gloves, and didn't even need to do coat up (which is good as I'm about to start losing buttons). Internal heating has its up side but summer is worrying me - and we don't even get summers in the UK anymore!

Cavort · 02/04/2013 16:18

Another one here who has a new internal central heating system Hmm It's been quite nice while the weather has been freezing but I'm dreading it warming up!

Nice to see you back on your feet Zombies. I have been very lucky and have managed not to get ill since getting pg yet.

I don't think my MW is going to be doing any weighing, only belly measuring, but the extra chin I now seem to be getting suggests the weight is piling on gaining as expected. Confused

Oh, and is anyone else losing their marbles? I accidentally went to work wearing my scruffy dog-walking shoes this morning after I forgot to change them. I am losing my mind!

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 02/04/2013 16:50

Haven't noticed a massive marble loss yet, but maybe I have and just haven't noticed Grin

Oh, and I'm sure you've heard those stories about French being a bit obsessed with looks? Well, this morning, amongst vitamins and things, I also got a prescription for stretch mark cream. I'm using some anyway, but kind of odd having it prescribed by the doc, no? What's next, anti-cellulite treatment?

janey1234 · 02/04/2013 17:07

Wow, that's impressive. I'd love to get some on the NHS! Not sure it even works though, but surely worth a try.

I think I keep doing bonkers things, but can't quite remember any of them right now (sign of marble-loss?). I am, however, becoming increasingly clumsy it would seem. I usually am pretty clumsy anyway, but it's getting out of control. Smashed two plates within two days last week, both times doing routine chores (loading and unloading dishwasher) and completely unnecessary breakages. DP didn't say a word but I saw him sneaking a look and I he was suspect wondering what on earth was happening to me....

BraveLilBear · 02/04/2013 17:17

No marble losses to compare to wearing wrong shoes all the way to work (I keep my work shoes in the office, partly for this reason) but I do have occasional marble outages.

Have taken to rechecking everything before going anywhere in case I've forgotten something, and invariably will start doing something then forget half way through. This is frustrating. I also always always have to lean on a wall or bannister when going up/down stairs as I simply don't trust my balance. Have had a few wobbly near-misses too many!

Cavort · 02/04/2013 17:21

Hazle what is the name of this stretch mark cream that the French feel is good enough to prescribe? Maybe they know something we don't! I'm on my second large bottle of Bio Oil and I have a feeling it's not making much difference.

OP posts:
janey1234 · 02/04/2013 17:26

Oh, I locked us both out the house the other night. I knew I'd done something spectacularly stupid recently. I knew DP didn't have keys (long story involving plumber) so kindly offered to pick him up from the station, as he worked late to make sure he wasn't home first. Anyway, as I left to pick him up, I picked up my car keys and the house keys (again, long story, but they were on separate key rings) and thought to myself "oh, I don't need the keys, am only popping to the station, will be back in five"... As I closed the door I realised what I'd done, and sobbed the whole way to the station - DP thought something awful had happened and couldn't stop laughing when I told him what it was. Annoying though as it took over an hour and a half to drive to my brother's and back to get a spare set. talking of which, must give you another set alex before I do it again!

HazleNutt · 02/04/2013 18:29

Cavort it's this one:
www.avene.co.uk/Trixera-Selectiose-Emollient-cream

Does not say it's against stretch marks specifically, but doc claimed it works. Have been using Mama Mio cream and oil myself(cream is really nice, absorbed immediately) , but will give this one a try too. Probably won't hurt.

janey1234 · 02/04/2013 21:02

Moan alert Hmm....

I don't know what the hell is going on, but my hip was really painful this evening (as in limping quite badly when walking) and last night in bed, and again now, my entire right leg feels numb and vaguely pins and needle-y. Pregnancy related ailment, or just a symptom of being old and knackered? Hope it's not permanent either way, as it stopped me going to sleep last night...

Cavort · 02/04/2013 21:28

Oh dear Janey, that sounds unpleasant Sad I think Purple is our resident PGP/SPD expert so i'm sure she'll be along in due course with an opinion on whether it's PG related or not. I think mine is definitely SPD and it looks like it's going to be a long sleepless 12 weeks until it goes. Sad

Hazle I might give that cream a go as I do get very dry skin so it can't do any harm and it's not too expensive.

OP posts:
Purplemonster · 02/04/2013 23:04

Did someone call my name? Grin sounds more like a trapped nerve or something to me Janey though I'm not really an expert! Could be pg related as it sounds a lot like sciatica which people often get in pregnancy but hopefully you just slept on it funny or something and it will go again, doesn't sound like spd or pgp though you'll be pleased to know though sciatica can be horrid if it is bad but fingers crossed it's not that.

Cavort · 03/04/2013 07:02

Of all the enjoyable pregnancy firsts, being woken up several times in the night by kicking is not one of them Shock How do you soothe a baby off to sleep who is still on the inside? Confused

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 03/04/2013 08:19

Whenever I tell Dh that "Oh, baby is really kicking hard now, feel!" and he puts his hand on my belly, the baby immediately stops and pretends to be asleep. Maybe that would work in your case as well? Of course, that would mean waking up DH in the middle of the night, but he needs to get used to that anyway. Grin

janey1234 · 03/04/2013 09:00

Thanks Dr. purple.
I consulted Dr.Google in your absence last night (and given the pain isn't in my pelvis, but just in one hip I didn't think it was SPD or anything) and he seems to think it's a trapped nerve. The good news is that I think I've been hobbling oddly on it yesterday, as today my right ankle and knee are painful too. I realised I was walking with my right foot pointing outwards earlier - makes the hip pain less bad, but suspect that's causing the ankle/knee issues!

Ah poor you cavort. Thankfully I haven't had that yet although to be honest I sleep like the dead so that doesn't surprise me but I have a couple of times been woken as I was dozing off by a big kick. It really makes me jump! Actually quite like that though. However if it was at 2am I would really, really not like it at all...

BraveLilBear · 03/04/2013 15:33

Janey what a tale of woe that keys story is! Really felt for you - especially the bit about your OH thinking something awful had happened, tho I'm sure you were less light-hearted about it. Hope you can see the funny side now. Or soonish.

I, too, get periodic hip pains - sometimes in the night the outer edges of the right and sometmes left, too, hurt like buggery, which then leads to basically a dead leg feeling in the affected side. I hate it. I also, occasionally, get electrifying shooting pains through my bone in my hips which actually makes me jump it hurts so much. Fortunately it doesn't last long. The night-hips thing seems to come and go though, and sleeping with pillows propping up seems to help.

Had a weird trapped nerve thing the other night - it felt like someone was pouring a single drop of cold water over my shoulder and down my back - I couldn't reach it to scratch it so knew it was a nerve thing. Was so relieved that it had gone by the morning - felt somehting was crawling under my skin, gross Hmm

Cavort I had that once a few weeks ago as I was falling asleep - was crazy! But actual being woken up in the middle of the night must suck. I think walking around can rock them to sleep, but then you'll be totally awake which defeats the object.

I feel quite lucky that Baby Bear seems to be a daytime bear - or I'm sleeping so deeply at the mo that it doens't bother me when it has a kicking sesh.

Hazle mine used to do that too! But now the kicking and head banging and bum rolling (that was a weird feeling - but kind of awesome, could really feel it was a bum shape, too) is so indiscriminate that a simple hand does not quiet it.

Was watching the boat race build up the other day after some lunch and BB was totally going for it. I grabbed OH and put his hand there and he said 'it's just your dinner digesting'. He eventually came round after 10 minutes of very strong kicks, the cheeky bugger.

Alexandra6 · 03/04/2013 22:05

Ha that made me laugh bear!

Sorry for the aches and pains people are having. And poor you about the keys Janey!! Yes give me a spare set in case.

DH and I are booking a holiday for end of June and thinking of a break in the sun (even though I think I have to be careful and stay in the shade lots??) Anyway the villa has a lovely private pool but it's chlorinated. Daily Mail (typical) and bbc have scare stories about effects of chlorine in pregnancy. Just wondered what you all think on whether it's fine to swim in pools or not?

janey1234 · 03/04/2013 22:31

Swimming is always listed as one of the exercises absolutely recommended for pregnant people. Ignore the daily wail - their health alerts are generally utter nonsense.

Cavort · 03/04/2013 22:44

You're not planning to drink from the pool are you Alex? Grin I think chlorine levels in bags of pre-packed salad are higher than a typical swimming pool.

I am going away next weekend and fully intend to have a lovely dip in the pool looking like a whale.

Hi alexandra and welcome to the thread!Smile

janey1234 · 04/04/2013 07:17

Oh and re the sun alex that's fine too. Just make sure you use loads of cream as your skin can be a little more delicate. I survived the strong Dubai and Thailand sun whilst knocked up though, and don't think my skin was any different to usual....Smile

MotherOfCleo · 04/04/2013 07:35

They do say more sun means more vit d which gives baby stronger bones. I wouldnt worry about anything the daily mail says, just use your common sense and you'll be fine. Smile

I have my booking in appointment this morning and my scan this evening, pleased and scared!

Oh and Ive woken up feeling horribly sick! Also anyone else have a snotty nose? Ive had mine for weeks now, no cold just snuffles Confused
