Oops, seems we ran out of room without noticing!

Brave I've had a gander at spinningbabies but I'm still in total denial that i'll need to do anything about it and I think this will remain until after 30 weeks when a big alarm bell will go off in my head and i'll start trying to hang upside down in various parts of my house.

I'm really not sure what position mine is currently in though. I was having very low down kicks until a few days ago and now most of the movement has shifted higher up, but that could still mean she is bum down and feet up rather than the head down that i'd like her to be.

I have got a Hen Do in May when I will be 32 weeks - what a barrel of laughs that will be Hmm Congratulations on a size 8 being too big though I wish! I was in Mothercare the other day and they have some quite nice maternity dresses to buy off the peg. They're a bit pricey though.

The Barca thing is mid-May, so probably roasting, but it will most likely be hot over here as well. At least they'll keep their air conditioning at freezing temperatures in Spain.

BraveLilBear · 26/03/2013 10:54

Lol Janey that second dress you linked to is almost the exact one! Mine has elbow-length sleeves though and is burgundy. Great minds Grin

I think the size 8 is on the big side because I, even though have sprouted almost-impressive norks for the first time in my life, am now just a normal sized lady in the breast compartment. I also don't think I've put much fat on elsewhere on my upper body yet I think maternity fits tend to be quite generous to allow for all over expansion, so that's my reasoning!

Ooh Hazle had forgotten about the Spanish love for air-con - I'm sure you'll be grand Grin - and you'll look fab to boot.

Alexandra6 · 26/03/2013 11:03

Ooh I love the other dress janey!

Purplemonster · 26/03/2013 11:26

Oh I don't envy you all that task, I'm struggling enough to find basic maternity wear for work, having to find something for a special occasion would tip me over the edge!

Today I'm mostly pondering baby baths, not the most interesting subject I grant you. I know I need one despite lots of people saying you don't due to our stupid bathroom with no bath. The stupid bathroom led me to another head scratching moment which is...how do I fill it? I guess most people would sit in in the big bath and fill it from the bath taps then bath the baby in the baby bath inside the big bath. I can't do this because this stupid ex bachelor pad doesn't have a bath. Soooo, do I fill it using the shower head then bath baby with my shoulder half stuck through the open shower cubicle doors? Sounds a bit awkward. Can't fill it from hand basin taps as its a tiny corner basin. Do I repeatedly fill a very small jug (all that would fit under tap in stupid basin) and fill bath very slowly this way on bathroom floor? Bath would probably not fit under tap in kitchen sink either but could use a big jug to fill in but then put it where for actual bathing?

Between all of this problem solving and the fact that OH said 'find a COOL bath, I want one that's shaped like a giant rubber duck or something' my head is all swimmy with something whichever surely should be simple!

Cavort · 26/03/2013 11:42

Purple I have bought one of these which I intend to probably use on the draining board in the kitchen. We do have a bath but it has a massive fixed glass screen surrounding most of it so trying to lean over to wash a baby will be a bit of a bugger.

I have a friend who just uses one of these which she says is fine.

Cavort · 26/03/2013 11:46

Hmmm, link doesn't seem to work. It is one of those cheap flexible plastic buckets with handles which some people use for laundry (and others use as baby baths Grin )

OP posts:
Purplemonster · 26/03/2013 12:01

Oh you mean like a trug or something? Well there's an idea, at least you'd be able to use it for something else afterwards! Baby stuff is too bloody complicated, bloody foldable baths, inflatable baths, collapsible baths I'm a simple kinda girl, a bucket appeals to me Grin

janey1234 · 26/03/2013 12:38

I've bought one of these which is essentially just a bucket, but my niece and nephew loved it, so reckoned it would do for us. My DSIL used to bathe them all over the house - so either fill it up in the bath and use it there, or other times fill it up in the kitchen sink and use it on the lounge floor or whatever. Small enough to not be too heavy when filled with water?

Alexandra6 · 26/03/2013 14:42

Couldn't I just get a cheap plastic bucket when the time comes or is there something different about this one? Oh I can't wait until I can actually buy stuff!

Alexandra6 · 26/03/2013 14:48

Also random question but on another thread they were talking about supplements and I wondered what you all took/are taking? I am just taking folic acid and vit D3. Have never eaten better so am thinking I'm getting everything else I need from good food. Someone on the other thread said her midwife told her to stop taking these vit C tablets she was taking, because they were very high and apparently people can take high levels of vit C to encourage abortion!

BraveLilBear · 26/03/2013 15:19

Alex some people do just get a cheap bucket - but don't think you'd want one that's been used on a bedroom renovation lol!

Supplements - I took folic acid and prenatal vits when I could in first trimester... but I found quite quickly that prenatal vits had an adverse affect on me (thanks to the iron) so just took FA and occasional Vit D. Current advice is Vit D all throughout and into breastfeeding, however there was a major study out just last week that said this could actually be harmful and only women with darker skin tones, who cover up, or are say nightworkers should take them.

B Vits are supposed to be very good at boosting energy levels and staving off morning sickness (or at least reducing it).

Whatever you do, don't take a 'regular' multivit - anything with vitamin A can be bad for you as it can affect baby's liver, esp at an early stage.

HazleNutt · 26/03/2013 15:21

I took pregnancy multivitamins, folic acid and iron. Last month doc also gave me vit D.

janey1234 · 26/03/2013 15:26

I'm taking pregnacare plus, which comes with a fish oil type capsule as well - as DP doesn't eat fish I worried about not getting enough of that stuff...

And about the bucket - will show you mine. I debated a cheap DIY bucket, but it being kind of clear is nice, and it has a big thick brim which my nephew used to cling onto and chew when he was teeny, so I wanted one like that.... £20 not bad value either I reckon....

Alexandra6 · 26/03/2013 15:36

I take it that's not a fish liver oil tablet (I know you're not meant to have cod liver oil for example)?

Do you think I'm ok not taking any supplements apart from my folic acid and vit D if I'm eating really well? I'm not keen on taking tablets unless I need to (like lovely brilliant clomid which got me here in the first place!)

Can't wait to see your bucket janey Grin ha

HazleNutt · 26/03/2013 15:42

OK, before and after vagina casts should not be mentioned on the same thread where showing each other our buckets is discussed Shock Grin

BraveLilBear · 26/03/2013 16:02

Grin at bucket and fanjo displays

That is all!

janey1234 · 26/03/2013 16:45

Oh good god feel a bit sick now! Confused

No Alex, it comes with pregnacare and is some kind of DHA (or something) supplement. Loving your fear of medicines and tablets extending to vitamins too! Wink

Alexandra6 · 26/03/2013 16:57

I know it's ridiculous!! You'd think clomid would have won me over! I do bloody love that stuff Smile

Purplemonster · 26/03/2013 17:42

I just took folic acid and vit D, now just vit D on occasion when I remember. I think if you've got a balanced diet that should be fine, I can't take any of the 'pregnancy' vits as they all have iron in them and it makes me sick.

I seem to have spent half my bloody day off today trying on bras. Was fitted by M&S and Mothercare who told me two completely different sizes aarrgghh! And they both told me off for wearing my old underwired one. I'm a bit peeved that for all this pregnancy lark my cup size hasn't apparently changed and I've just gained fatter ribs, it doesn't seem fair. I wonder if that's why everyone thinks my bump looks big though, maybe I'm just put of proportion because I've got small boobs. The Mothercare lady did tell me how lovely and perfect my boobs are though which was both flattering and creepy weird all at the same time.

Purplemonster · 26/03/2013 17:44

(And incidentally, not true either)

HazleNutt · 26/03/2013 17:48

Didn't we discuss bras earlier? Was it Brave that got herself into a new size or you?

In any case
a)M&S and Mothercare are both totally useless with bra fittings. I can do a better job without seeing you.
b) it's fine to wear underwires when pregnant, as long as they are fitted properly.

One of the long threads here, take a look

Alexandra6 · 26/03/2013 17:56

I didn't actually realise you need to buy new bras when pg. Saw a nice strapless maternity maxi dress on asos earlier (I know it's too early for me to buy stuff but I like having a quick browse) - I guess I'd need to get a new strapless bra then too. Think I'm going to try and not go overboard on mat clothes though to save money for my baby gap year.

Purplemonster · 26/03/2013 17:59

It wasn't me, I've steadfastly ignored the bra issue until today when I conceded defeat and admitted that my newly acquired fat back was pushing the elastic of my old pretty, nice bra that I actually like to its limits. I now own some fuggly thing without wires with straps that are nearly as wide as my frickin shoulders, why they think you need bloody structural engineering straps when you're a small cup size I don't know.

I'll check out the threads thanks Hazle, thankfully gravity doesn't have much effect on the small amount I'm carrying around so it's not as vital as for people with proper norks.

Purplemonster · 26/03/2013 18:02

Most people's boobs grow quite a lot Alex, mine are just deficient, your rib cage also expands so you generally have to buy new.
