Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Umlauf that made me giggle, I feel the same! Or rely solely on my mothers memory from 16 years ago! As has already been said, many women have lost their symtoms and dopplers are the root of much stress. I refuse to get one as I know myself. I will freak out daily! When the lovely lady at work said she was 5 month pg I had to smile sweetly and resist the urge to ask about her toilet habits Blush this ain't MN leave her alone

In other news, approached the subject of private scans with DP- he looked at me like Hmm and said "aren't the first ones called 12 week scans for a reason?" We spoke about reassurance and he understood I think but his eyebrows still shot up when I said the price was probably around £80. It did make me laugh, and I had to agree that there are many other things we could spend the money on... Like food... My ongoing obsession. Carvery for lunch with mother today, delayed Mother's Day outing. Can't bloody wait!!

Sending Flowers to MrsE, hope you're on another bus soon and Haylebop, roll on 2nd trimester so sorry you're having such a bad time of it. X

Umlauf · 16/03/2013 10:33

Haha yep I am showing WAY too much interest in other people's pregnancies, fairly sure I've probably given the game away! One student came to find me to say she couldn't come to my class anymore as it clashes with her antenatal classes, and instead of saying 'that's ok' I started quizzing her on the antenatal classes, the bump size, loads and loads of questions. She backed away slowly!

I'm so pleased I haven't been able to locate a private scan clinic here (my shit Spanish means I can't navigate the local Internet!) as they are expensive and I would still be worrying now anyway I'm certain. I think they cost about 150 euros here too and instead I'm spending that on a holiday at Easter (as not allowed to travel in a plane by the summer!)

Flyer747 · 16/03/2013 11:26

Umlauf, I also bought a Doppler, after seeing someone's post last night I went onto Amazon straight away and got next day delivery, it was delivered this morning. My goodness I'm getting totally neurotic in this pregnancy!!!

Anyway I assembled the thing, had a full bladder, coated my tummy in gel, and lay down to get to work!!! Well my god, one hour 30 mins after starting I finally found a HB! It took friggin ages, I found something I thought was a HB (turns out probably to have been my own or some artery) then panicked as it was only 80bpm! I would say that yes these devices can be reassuring, they can also make you stress when you can't find anything. I found the HB really low down by my pubic bone on the right hand side....

I'm going to be the most annoying worrisome mother ever! I need to get a grip, haha...have a superb weekend ladies x

Natalieand · 16/03/2013 11:30

Ooooops we've nearly filled another thread. This deffo won't see everyone through their booking appointments xxx

OrangeBlossom2 · 16/03/2013 11:35

Glad you got a heartbeat in the end flyer. I read in what to expect this morning that home dopplers will not reliably pick up a heart beat until 5 months into pregnancy. My sister was given one but I dont think I will ask to borrow it as I think I would find not being able to hear anything more worrying than not knowing what is going on in there.

doobeedee · 16/03/2013 11:53

Took me an hour to find HB first go but now I know where to look I get it in under 5 mins every time and its between 160 and 170 BPM.

ananikifo · 16/03/2013 12:07

We booked a private scan for Monday, at 9 weeks. My NHS scan is in a month. We've told parents and a few friends, but I'm becoming more and more anxious about mc. I panicked a bit thinking there was vitamin A in my fish oil capsules, which i have reassured myself about rationally but it hasn't helped my worries. I'm not sure if we're being silly but I just can't stand it anymore and I want some kind of reassurance that the pregnancy is ok. The scan is kind of expensive but we have the money so we're doing it. I think when we see the baby we'll feel better, and if it isn't ok at least we'll know sooner rather than later.

I do feel a bit worried about what the midwife will think as I didn't ask her or anything but that's my right, right? My worries are mostly silly, which is why I haven't asked her about all of them, but I'm sick of worrying.

Haylebop12 · 16/03/2013 12:22

doo my mum guessed the sex of dd by finding out the heart rate. Apparantly it's faster for a girl!

Umlauf · 16/03/2013 12:29

Tried again this morning and still nothing. Sounds exactly the same on mine and DHs tummy. I'm feeling so down and preparing for bad news. My boss warned me last week that Spain doesn't have compassionate leave!

Thinking happy thoughts, carvery for lunch sounds ace!

Flyer747 · 16/03/2013 12:49

Umlauf, how far gone are you? If I remember correctly aren't you nearly 12 weeks? So it's probably that your symptoms have just eased off as the placenta has taken over production etc. I completey understand how easy it is to worry, I'm the biggest worrier ever. And those dopplers can cause more stress than reassurance to be honest as we aren't sure exactly what we are supposed to be hearing. I know it's easier said than done but try and have faith that all is ok. Sending you a hug xx

Umlauf · 16/03/2013 13:06

Thank you flyer the hug feels nice! Yes 12 weeks on Monday afaik. I know I'm being foolish! It's good to know about the placenta though thank you. I'm sure it'll be fine, just my turn for a wobble! I'm going to download what to expect this evening when the rugby's on!

doobeedee · 16/03/2013 13:26

Haylebop yes I've heard that. We can test the theory out in Oct! Umlauf are you pressing on hard enough? I have to press down quite hard very low down close to bikini line then tilt it tiny bits until it picks up. It does take some practice. Don't worry.

CelticPromise · 16/03/2013 14:04

Does anyone have no bump at all? I'm getting neurotic... No tummy expansion and I can't feel anything when I press.

I still have sore boobs and am weeing for Wales, but am worried like everyone that I'll go for my scan and there'll be nothing there. Nine days to wait...

ananikifo · 16/03/2013 14:17

Celticpromise I'm 9 weeks and I can only sometimes feel what I hope is my uterus, only when I press on my tummy. It could really just be my bladder or bowels. I'm definitely not showing and I doubt I will be for a while. In fact I'm still losing weight because if the nausea. It's perfectly normal.

tuckingfits · 16/03/2013 14:19

Hi celtic - I had no proper recognisable bump first time round til about 22 weeks. I started getting thicker round the waist about 17/18 weeks but not so that anyone would know it was a baby bump. This time however I will be 10 weeks on Monday & am already much heavier round the middle although I don't seem to have put on any weight (thank goodness as still a stone heavier than when I got pg with DS).

Everyone is so different,I really wouldn't worry about not having a bump!

CelticPromise · 16/03/2013 14:21

Thanks ladies I knew I'd get some reassurance here. I can't remember when I could feel something last time round. DS was so tiny and prem I was never that obviously pregnant, but I could feel it myself, just can't remember when.

You're all fab.

Wispa123 · 16/03/2013 15:22

Hi everyone, mega busy at school so haven't posted for a while (parents evening next week too....argh!). So I got the app through for my so called 12 week scan yesterday but its not until I'm 14+2 weeks which, according to people I know will be too late for the nuchal scan? A friend had the same prob a couple of years ago and her tests were only based on bloods which aren't as accurate. Any advice / knowledge to share. Going to call them on monday to see if I can get in earlier otherwise we are going to go for a provate scan. Apart from the nuchal scan thing I desperately dont want to wait till 14+ weeks just to find out if everything is okay /growing etc. Feeling very anxious about it all and wonder if this is that start of appalling NHS service once again! What to do?

GettingObsessive · 16/03/2013 16:02

Roofio are you me?!

My scan is also on 26th and my birthday is on 23rd! Shock Shock

roofio87 · 16/03/2013 16:08

Haha *getingobssessive" I really hope we're not one crazy person who has split personalities that are both.pregnant!?!!
love it, I'm not excited about my birthday at all this year, I'd happily skip it to get to the 26th!!Smile

JellyCurls · 16/03/2013 16:21

celtic I am 12 weeks with dc3 and have no bigger belly and cannot feel anything so don't worry. Didn't show with dc1 till about 24 weeks, dc2 I was about 19 weeks

Smitten1981 · 16/03/2013 16:43

Hope you're all having a good weekend ladies. I have a slight issue to pick your brains about. Sorry if this is TMI, but it appears there is no one to ask about this. I called NHS Direct this morning and they didn't know the answer and said a healthcare professional would call me back within an hour. That was at 10am and now it's half four so I guess it's not going to happen.

Really don't want to make yet another docs appt because its so trivial and I don't want to waste their and my time.

Anyway the antibiotics I took for my kidney infection last week have left me with thrush (sorry, I know this is gross). I went to get a Canesten pessary but it says to seek medical advice before use if pregnant.

Does anyone know if it's ok to use? If not, what is?

I feel like such a clown and really can't be bothered to have to go to the bloody doctors again for something that I wouldn't usually think twice about. Help!

Soupqueen · 16/03/2013 16:50

I had exactly the same problem after antibiotics. The pessary is fine but insert it with your finger rather than the applicator. I didn't manage to get it far at all, and it was uncomfortable, but still worked.

ananikifo · 16/03/2013 16:56

I just came home from the walk-in centre because of thrush. The GP was surprised that the pregnancy books said you have to go to the GP. She prescribed me a pessary and cream, and said she would have prescribed that based on my description of symptoms in a phone call. (Ie no need to inconvenience yourself by waiting at the walk-in or making an appt). She said if it's itchy there's not really anything else it could be. Just don't take the oral thrush tablets whilst pregnant.

I'm glad I got a prescription though. I had to pay today but I think we can claim it back when I get a maternity exemption certificate.

Natalieand · 16/03/2013 17:02

smitten I had a friend who suffers badly with thurs throughout the her pregnancy and she was given it every time too and told to just insert with finger as it won't go far enough up to your your cervix. But saying that f u get it for your gp you won't have to pay for it as you get a prescription exemption when pregnant xx

Smitten1981 · 16/03/2013 17:05

Thanks so much everyone. I don't mind paying for it if it makes it go away! I'll be off to Boots in the morning.
