Over here Ladies!

As the title suggests our fore runners will almost certainly hit 37 weeks this thread.

And the wonderful little Alex will hopefully continue to go from strength to strength and edge closer to the door home with Mama

JaquelineHyde I know how your feeling with the pelvis pain, trying everything to stop it hurting, last night I had two high pillows to rest my right knee on when lying on my left side (just trying to reduce the weigh on my hip) , kinda helped until I started refluxing and had to try to sleep sitting up Sad.

Teapig If you can't think of gifts for a newborn why not ask for things for when baby is 6 or 12 months old, eg weaning spoons/forks, infant tiny diner, or clothes

glossyflower · 28/02/2013 13:45

I'm slightly annoyed that after a day of my introductory post no one has said hello to me.
I know I'm a latecomer but that's no excuse, I feel so unwelcome, so I will say goodbye here.
Best of luck to you all with your little ones. .

SneezySnatcher · 28/02/2013 13:45

Teapig this was my favourite gift that I was given and I have given a few to friends as well. No need to mess putting on and taking off coats/snowsuits when going in and out of cars and shops!

SneezySnatcher · 28/02/2013 13:50

Oh! X-posted with glossyflower. I'm sorry you don't feel welcome but there are around 100 of us on here so it's not always possible to read all posts.

Add to that someone who has already had their baby (and is in hospital herself) and a few with threatened prem labours and it's maybe understandable that people skim read to find out how these people are or if there are any questions they can answer!

Everyone here is lovely, honestly! Sorry you've had a tough time.

kitkatsz23 · 28/02/2013 14:05

Glossy Sorry, we probably haven't seen your post yet! This thread goes so quickly I'm struggling to read it all back and remember it all sometimes. Please don't go, you are very welcome and everybody is really nice!!

Ollibobs · 28/02/2013 14:11

Jaq and Rabbit - I know how you feel re the pelvis pain. However, I was told to avoid sleeping in the recovery position as this can make pain worse. If you sleep with a pillow between your legs, try to keep the legs parallel. It might help a bit.

Also, if you are really suffering, the consultant told me to take paracetamol regularly as it works best that way. He also gave me loads of codeine, but I only take that if I am in agony and haven't slept in days. Even though it's safe in pregnancy, makes me nervous.

Also if you have sore hips, try icing each side for twenty minutes around twenty minutes before bed. It really helped me get a few hours sleep in the early days.

Hang in there. SPD is a nightmare!

Ollibobs · 28/02/2013 14:12

Glossy sorry you haven't felt welcome here. It could just be that some of us missed your post - I know I did. I'm sorry you feel hurt.

Why not give us another chance? Grin

photochick · 28/02/2013 14:16

Glossy sorry no one directly responded to you within 24hrs. This thread does move very quick - I have had to read 2 pages since I logged on last!

Glossy I always say hi when I see new people post. I didn't see yours though. This thread moves so fast I imagine your post simply got lost.

Certainly no one would deliberately ignore you here, we're a nice bunch! It's unfortunate rather than personal or intended.

Why not give it another try. Or if you feel embarrased now, namechange and come back anew!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 28/02/2013 15:11

Hey glossy, sorry your introduction just lost in a busy period yesterday. We really are a friendly bunch! Sorry to hear you've had HG, that sounds horrendous. I hope you can enjoy the last few weeks of your pregnancy.

Mama how rubbish that you've got sick. Fwiw I doubt it's something you picked up from yesterday. More likely to have picked up something in the hospital! I hope it blows over quickly :)

teapig my SIL was asking what to buy and I suggested a bouncy chair. Not too expensive and my sister found hers invaluable with DNephew!

I'm not convinced these antibiotics are making much difference....still having Braxton Hicks/contraction type pain when I walk more than a few metres! Shock

toobreathless · 28/02/2013 15:23

Hi Ladies:

Group B Strep (GBS) as I understand it:
-Is a 'normal' bacteria found on the digestive and reproductive tracts in up to half of healthy women. Only 1-2% of babies born to women with GBS go on to develop infections.
-Is the commonest cause of nasty early infections in newborns.

  • Some babies are at higher risk: those that are premature, or when a mothers waters break a long term before delivery.
-Almost all maternity units in the UK (99% according to RCOG) do not screen for it but the USA and Canada DO. Saying that the number of cases of disease (per 1000 births) is roughly the same here as USA/Canada where they do screen.
  • When GBS is found in the mother giving antibiotics via a drip in labour does reduce the number of cases of early infections in newborn but it doesn't change the number of late cases of infections.
  • There are possible down sides to giving treatment in labour, such as reactions to the antibiotics used, possibly infections with other bugs after killing off the 'good bacteria' and increased medicalisation of labour.

So for these reasons routine screening is NOT recommended in the UK.
RCOG (royal college of obstetricians and gynaecologists) have full guidelines here:
BUT if GBS is found due to swabs for other reasons or a high risk mother it is worth treating.

Hope this helps!

Faith SNAP with the Braxton Hicks on walking. I have been having them since 22 weeks. Mine get worse with picking up toddler DD, soft play seems to bring on particularly nasty ones. I think the only solution is to listen to your body and slow down a bit. Mine are much better since stopping work but I know you're still working and that's probably not overly helpful advice!

Mama you poor thing! Rant away. Hope you are feeling a bit better now.

JH and Dysgu great news you are both still pregnant Grin

Glossy welcome! We are very friendly but things move fast and think we have had a few newcomers in the last few days (waves to those too!) and I just lose track tbh particularly as I only post a few times a week. Plus a fair few of us have other children. Work full time and are generally busy bees! Just jump in.

OP posts:
HavingALittleFaithBaby · 28/02/2013 15:42

Yes too I'm ok at home - currently off sick- (although doing very little round the house) but work is flat out so taking it easy when I'm there isn't an option!

SneezySnatcher · 28/02/2013 16:06

Faith I'm getting loads of BH too! It seems like every time I move it triggers one! Don't remember getting any with DD.

Msbluesky32 · 28/02/2013 16:36

teapig I asked work for John lewis vouchers and they were so pleased. That way I can get anything that comes to mind between now and baby arriving. Of how about some multicoloured muslin cloths? They are a bit more than the normal white ones but look fab...and apparently you can never have too many.

Im on maternity leave now - cannot tell you how relieved after a week of travelling through central London in half term Hmm. Despite being off I still can't seem to keep up on here, it's moving so quickly!

faith and sneezy are your Brixton hicks followed by cramps? I appear to get very mild BH but have had the odd one followed by period like dull aches.

How's everyone feeling? Not long now (6 weeks or so for me)...

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 28/02/2013 16:42

Yes MsBlue and what appears to be a burning cervix (well that's a guess at location!). My MW said its a sign of an irritable uterus and that I should rest if it plays up. If it doesn't stop when I rest, I'm to call the labour ward! Shock It does stop when I rest but like I say, I can't rest all the time!

SneezySnatcher · 28/02/2013 17:46

I'm getting the shooting pains in my cervix too! MW mentioned irritable uterus to me when I had a CTG and was given the same advice - rest if they come on. That's fine unless you're halfway home!

birdbrain17 · 28/02/2013 17:50

havingfaith I have exactly the same thing. The baby is sitting very low and I also have a possible urine infection (mw found protein trace yesterday I'm waiting to hear back from her) but if I walk more then a few steps and any faster then snail pace I get a really sharp pain in my cervix and sometimes also bh! but like you say it's impossible to rest all the time especially whilst I'm still working and got loads I want to sort out at home before the baby comes Hmm

nottinghillmom1234 · 28/02/2013 18:07

Hi ladies! Bori I'm also due on April 30th. feels good to know someone else shares the same due date as me :)

Mama Hope u r feeling better - thinking of you!

I had my check up today and the baby is breech :( I'm not too happy about that :( I hope he goes head down soon! I also finally got my whooping cough jab - happy it's done!

I still haven't packed my hospital bag - will probably do it next week. Want to get the room sorted first. My Antenatal classes are going well - we still have 2 more to go. Is anyone planning to use the Tens Machine??? Is it helpful - any idea?

giddypants · 28/02/2013 18:23

Hello all, sorry glossy I also missed your post, but not got around to catch up on the thread for a few days.

mama hope your feeling better soon.
Bag is finally thoroughly packed, just got my 'entertainment' bag to pack, but have made a list so if I need to go in then DH can bring it through later.

Had my final growth scan today, has remained on the 50th centile the whole time, so very average I wonder what weight is average?

Also have my section date booked for the 26th march lets just hope everything goes smoothly until then.

3 weeks and 5 days to go!
35+5

Teapig · 28/02/2013 18:59

glossy, sorry your post was missed. This is a really lovely thread but as everyone has said it moves so fast. I've been skimming the past few days as work has been crazy so I totally missed your post. Join in everyone is lovely.

Thanks for all the gift suggestions. We already have a bouncy chair so I'm going to ask for a gro bag, blind or baby hoody. Thanks so much for the suggestions! Really I'd like vouchers so I can choose myself but I think they want to give a gift and it's really generous of them, I'd be happy with anything.

giddy, wow you're close. I hope everything goes smoothly and baby waits until 26th.

Thinking of rosie, hope all is ok.

angeltattoo · 28/02/2013 19:12

3 weeks giddy that us do close! How exciting!!

A meet up would be great, for as many that can make it as possible, how about one of the 4 days after Easter Monday? Lots of people seem to be finishing work then Grin

Sorry to hear of everyone's aches, pains and other bits!

Lots of BH here, and mention of an aching cervix rang a (worrying) bell!

Tiredness is my main thing at the moment, but only 8 more days left at work so I'm sure that'll help.

34 weeks tomorrow!!

JaquelineHyde · 28/02/2013 20:24

Oh glossy come on now get over it, I have been on the thread since the begining and sometimes write massive posts about all sorts that not one person comments on...It's not something that is done on purpose, just the nature of a thread that is very fast movig ad has over 100 posters. Certaily nothig for you to be getting anoyed about!

Knackered.com here today so I am off up to bed in a moment and hoping for a good nights sleep!

I wonder if Rosie is holding her baby yet? Smile

33 weeks today.

damnitdamnit · 28/02/2013 20:41
