Morning all

Good luck to everybody having scans today! Can't believe how far we have all come already! Just one more week to wait until mine.

Feeling very tired today as had a busy weekend but haven't felt sick for a week so hoping that's behind me.

Like some others my gap jeans arrived last week and they are lovely so worth taking a look if there are any left.

Booked my summer holiday last week for May will be 23/24 weeks so excited! Just need to look into appropriate insurance now.

fl0b0t · 25/02/2013 11:13

Goodmorning (just)!

Glad to see so many scans and poos, sounds like things are going well :)

I've survived a whole weekend in Milan of shopping, loitering in cafes with chicolata con panna and going on dressed up girls nights out. Being with 4 doctors was helpful and because I've been so ill we're totally ignoring the 12 weeks rule with friends, as they've been so worried about me being sick! They all looked after me, and I've been surprisingly well this weekend (distraction). Feeling pretty exhausted now- still nauseous but not as bad as it has been. Luckily booked today off so it's a sofa day. DH cleaned the WHOLE HOUSE whilst I was away because he is amazing, but the fridges are empty! So I've gotta get dressed if I want to eat!

I think I've had my first craving (sliced kiwi on top of jam on toast) in a Milanese hotel breakfast and found that I DO like hot chocolate after alll (but only italian thick melty chocolate, but not that thin watery powder synthetic shit we drink in the UK). Also, go to Milan in fashion week- the people watching is awesome and in the ridiculously posh shops they treat you beautifully (and the Milanese are not especially known for their friendliness). And Jimmy Choo will give you a glass of champagne (noooooooo!) and the most amazing cake-pop you have ever set your taste buds on......

Made it to ten weeks, still down on weight from conception time, but feeling bloated (I'm blaming baby, husband is blaming all the bread I ate) and full.

No scan date through yet, but hoping it comes soon as I'm trying to book work stuff into my diary and will have to cancel things when the scan date comes!

fl0b0t · 25/02/2013 11:29

Oooh spoke too soon. You'll all be proud of this one..... I ate a lot of mints on my flight to stop me feeling sick..... but they gave me diahorrea which triggered me being sick because of the smell. I am classy.

astroming · 25/02/2013 11:50

Good luck everyone with scans today..i think mine is the furthest away on march 20th...bah humbug!!

chocciemousse · 25/02/2013 12:39

Good luck to all of those with scans today! I'm looking forward to hearing all about them.

Lexy your DS sounds adorable. I can't wait to have my own little family.

fl0b0t you should work for Milan's tourism board. You are a great ambassador. I am now thinking Milan might be a cool place to go over the Easter break. Good to hear you are feeling better. Have you managed to put on any weight? I keep losing weight which I am worried about.

Kami, children born between 1st sept to the 31st Aug would normally start in the September. It is up to the school's discretion as to whether they would let them start the year earlier (eg so they would be the youngest in the year) It depends how ready for school your child is. I hope that makes some sense.

fl0b0t · 25/02/2013 13:02

choccie - I really enjoyed it! I think it helped that it was a relaxed girly hen do with a brilliantly organised person in charge, but yes Milan is lovely! It's like much of Italy so amazing buildings and statues and theatres, and two roads down really shabby old buildings, but if you do some research it's good fun. Dress chic, eat lots and enjoy!

I've put a little back on (0.2kg) which is surprising as I've stuffed my face with italian bread but feeling very bloated!!

kimjayne · 25/02/2013 13:37

Hey, think my last post probably got lost in a rush of messages so apologies for repeating myself. I just wondered if there was anyone on here living up north (as in Manchester/Stockport) with advice on good hospitals for the birth? I've heard mixed reviews on St Marys and Wythenshawe. Just wondered if anyone had any 1st hand experience?

HettySunshine · 25/02/2013 13:48

I have heard wonderful things about macclesfield hospital. My friends' baby was 11 weeks prem and the started and finished his care at Macc (they had to go to the SCBU in Liverpool in the middle) and they have nothing but good things to say about it. The nurses were always lovely when we went to visit.

I'll be hatching there. Smile

andadietcoke · 25/02/2013 14:12

kimjayne I'll be at Stepping Hill. Not first hand experience but all my friends that have given birth there have given good reports, for vaginal, Caesarian and SCBU. I want to be as close as I can so didn't consider anywhere else, and it's kind of on my way to work so makes all my AN consultant appts easier.

CheeseStrawCraving · 25/02/2013 16:10

Hi everyone! Scan was marvellous today, one little'un wriggling and hiccupping the whole time! At one point he/she turned his/her back on us so the sonographer struggled to get all the measurements for ages! She said straight away that the thickness at the back of the neck looked fine, even before she'd measured it, and she also said our baby was very photogenic Hmm and so gave us six photos for the price of three (£10) which was nice!

For those that are interested, crl was 59.0mm, and nuchal translucency was 1.9mm. Not sure what that means but she said all was very good so not too worried. Phew, started to tell people now! Hope all the other scans went well, wonder if there'll be any more twin news this week?

Manoodledo · 25/02/2013 16:12

Had scan today. All good thankfully. Sonographer lovely, spent ages looking at stuff, including the soft markers for downs, which she said gave her no cause for concern, it's not diagnostic, but it's good enough for me to be able to not worry about it too much during the pregnancy. Didn't want screening as it wouldn't change anything, but because my brother has downs it's uppermost in my mind, but will at least be less so now. Also came away with a whole roll of pictures, lol! Saw baby swallowing fluid and sucking it's thumb. Very cute.

Hope all my scan mates also had good experiences.

frogchops · 25/02/2013 16:24

Eeeeee I love reading everyone's news!

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 25/02/2013 16:33

Sorry to burst in amongst all the happy news but I'm having a shocking day and need a slap please.
DD and I are I'll with a crappy cold and I feel like my world is ending (melodramatic much?)
I'm actually questioning whether I could have another so soon, will I be able to cope? I don't know if I'm coping now, every day is the same, no money, no friends nearby and getting annoyed with DD whinge crying.
Slaps please!

cravingformilk · 25/02/2013 17:33

Please reassure me.... 11+2 and having a really bad day. Strong stabbing pains in lower stomach and just below my ribs. It's fine when fully resting but quite painful when just walking around. I've just called the GP and awaiting a call back but feel like I'm being a bit OTT. I have no bleeding but (sorry TMI) a slightly yellow tinged thick mucus/jelly discharge Blush. We have been trying for a baby for almost 3 years so I really want to hang on to this one. Hoping it's just wind or growing pains. Anyone had anything similar?

KamikazeeKid · 25/02/2013 17:35

Thanks choccie

frogchops · 25/02/2013 17:46

Craving, don't worry, I have pain when I walk, stretchy windy pain, which, tmi, also hurts when I pass wind Blush....and also yellow jelly like discharge just as you described. When I've aske the mw about any of this they always say dont worry about any pains unless they double u up and are constant, and yellow discharge is normal. Also, they always don't really seen alarmed unless I have bleeding. It calmed me down a little. Wink

cravingformilk · 25/02/2013 17:58

Thank you Frogchops, that has reassured me. I think I'm just having a little wobble - being back at work, pains, discharge... I'm off for a nice bath and a couple of deep breaths Smile. Roll on scan day Friday!!

BinarySolo · 25/02/2013 18:04

How old is your dd yellowhat? Are there any groups nearby that you can go to? My ds is 21 months and rather whiney when bored. Groups are a real life saver and after 6 months in a brand new area where I knew nobody I'm now meeting mums outside of groups.

We're pretty skint too as I'm a sahm and we have debt, but dh earns a decent wage so we're not entitled to any benefits. We're going to grow veg in the garden as well as having the ducks for eggs. It's part mint saving, part educational (as I want my kids to know where food comes from) and part trying to lead the good life. God that program had a huge influence in me, we've even named a duck Margot!

MeanMrsMustard · 25/02/2013 18:08

Craving, like frogchops, I've had both the pains and the discharge. They're pretty normal as far as I can tell.

I told my head today. I was so scared but it was fine. She acted happy even though it's obviously an inconvenience for her. At least my due date is convenient for school years and supply!

Glad the scans have gone well today.

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 25/02/2013 18:13

She's nearly 10mo Binary, we go to a group on a Thursday morning but that's it. I'd need transport to get to anything else. I've said to one of the mums I'm most friendly with about meeting outside the group but its never happened and don't want to push it. I should have went a walk but I felt too rotten!

BinarySolo · 25/02/2013 18:37

Maybe try another mum? The ones I was friendly with first off amounted to nothing, it been the ones I met more recently that have been friendlier. It is hard though, especially if there's only one group a week. I also have 2 dogs which means I have to go for a walk everyday and I find its really beneficial to both me and ds. Have you looked at mumsnet local?

My friend's just had her second an there's only 17 months between her too. She's coping really well. I think she's tried to establish good routines especially for sleep and then is trying to organise babysitters so she can go out with dh and feel like a normal adult again!

kipsonline · 25/02/2013 18:42

Oooh wow I have missed A LOT of lovely scan news and the usual reassuring mix of poo stories, niggles and support. I missed you ladies!

We are just back from a lovely few days in Switzerland staying with my sis in law and family. The kids all played beautifully together and I only managed to slip over once in the snow! It's probably all the fondue and snitzel but I now look about 6 months, will def need to tell work officially this week, at 14 weeks.

Quick question : has anyone else had to wait for written results after nt scan? I heard nothing on scan day itself, no measurements etc. am awaiting a score combined with blood results. Now panicking they only do this in unclear cases as lots of people seem to have their results immediately??? I'm in nottingham, anyone else from round here?!?

juniper9 · 25/02/2013 18:59

My scan is ages away too- 18th march as it was moved back due to my dates not matching blob.

Re school years- some local authorities don't allow parents to choose. Mine doesn't- even if we think the child should be a year lower (ie a child with severe specil needs). All children in my borough must be in the correct year, according to birthdate.

There seems to be a lot of teachers expecting- at least 12 and counting on the October thread! Think we all had the same idea re summer holiday, then a week or so in, then nearly a year off! (Back in July, then get summer 2014 paid too!)

JammyTummy · 25/02/2013 19:04

I'm so nervous/ excited for scan day tomorrow I can hardly keep it together! Contemplating going to sleep super early so as to miss out on all these nerves!

I'm so sorry I can't remember who is also scanning tomorrow- Wincher I think? But I know there are a few others!

Congrats to everyone on today's lovely scan news!

Creamtea1 · 25/02/2013 19:06

Hi ladies!
Ok here is my scan/hospital booking report:

  • scan all ok - due date now 9th sept so moved back 4 days
  • crown rump length 54.0 mm which is bang on average for dates
  • NT was 1.8mm
  • nuchal bloods were taken after scan, will get combined result in post in about 3 weeks!!
  • consultant appt consisted of wee sample, BP, blood, questions, waiting around
Then they decided I didn't need to be consultant led actually and changed me to midwife. Have to take aspirin once a day until I give birth, because of previous pre eclampsia, and I get checks every 2 weeks after 28 weeks -got 4 free photos as I knew one of the sonographers :)
